Actually capping doesn't give much of credits, just lots of XP... But that reward sharing should be based on to distance to capping DD and not distance to some cap's edge. It isn't that rare in maps like Two Brothers to go to cap and see that enemy team basically abandoned that flank with only few stragglers far away. And even with that destroyer spotting possible torpedo boats BBs keep heading toward map edge instead of cap and soon destroyer can be almost 10km ahead of them and without support.
-
You sure "Hey, I can hide in stealth if I keep far enough behind cruisers and look for easy pot shots from covered places." would actually encourage average BB player to point bow towards enemy instead of map borders? Besides Pensacola becoming valid target for all BBs to ambush... And unless auto-bounce angled BB APs have massively more penetration than needed for penning citadel armor of cruisers.

Guess I got lucky today and earlier in the week. Though today two matches were really tight for getting that 7/7 wins. In Trident Epicenter had potato CV in team (vs. OK) and couple Brainless Bo(a)ts about suiciding so went to last minute to pull victory with another DD. And last Domination match in Estuary had one pinkie New York sailing about uselessly in rear and some other BBs seemed to be obsessed with showing their side to enemy. Fortunately just as points were closing to 1000 with enemy team in ~five point lead managed to scare enemy Warspite out of their "home cap" and stop that cap from giving points to enemy with one cap advantage giving 1000-998 victory. Though in last couple months had many awful days with 3/4 of teams doing their best to sabotage victory chances and lose. Breathing is automatic reflex so it doesn't need thinking capable braincell.

Cruisers are becoming more and more pointless
EsaTuunanen replied to bloodynicknames's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, their thing isn't being stealthy, but using railgun trajectory to keep bombarding enemies from range... While faster rudder helps most to avoid getting hit by BBs exactly at long range. At shorter ranges cruisers simply won't ever outrun properly aimed BB AP salvo. Too much cruiser speed buff, at least universally, and destroyers will be forced to spam torps from max range instead of getting closer to better launch angles. Some of them already meet cruisers faster than them. Though especially USN cruisers are slowish considering they're not supposed to be long range snipers. (while neither they're brawlers because lack of torps crippling ambush potential) -
Just plan ahead more if T5 gun traverse is problem... Though for players used to USN gunslingers need to plan ahead is obviously "culture shock". And with turret hp buff Ognevoi isn't anymore at risk of losing 50% of firepower every time when someone takes angry look at it. Increasing detectability difference to IJN DDs definitely needs to be taken into account when contesting cap against them. Trying to keep enemy cruisers at 10+ km range or behind islands is needed when trying to push close enough to enemy destroyer. Spotting enemy destroyer retreating towards its team mates doesn't do much good if you're losing lots of hitpoints doing that. It's those tourist cruisers showing off their citadel to everyone which makes easy matches.

Yeah... fun naval version of WW1 trench warfare. Normal three base domination is lot more dynamic.

Yep, no sense to have AA not firing if planes detect you any way at that point. Even if carrier player fails to notice you without planes getting shot at I wouldn't count on other enemies not noticing you. Longer range USN dual purpose mortar of course should be limited to "surface firing only" as default. Because of short range kept AA always on in Gremlin before major AA changes in last winter. Now have to remember to enable/disable it depending on situation. (got 6 planes in last Solo Warrior game) Another thing to remember is that if you're actually inside smoke you can have your AA blazing away with barrels red hot at planes spotted by someone else and not get detected. Of course if you're trying to fool carrier that you left smoke earlier then it's better to keep AA silent. But that's down to "psychological warfare" and outside game mechanics.

Firing torpedoes ahead of closer to enemy team mates general moving direction ending to hitting friendly is definitely black and white situation on fault. Have been mutiple times hit by those second line cruisers/destroyers and many more times needed to "emergency brake" to avoid getting my match spoiled. (last time some Hatsu player would have needed to wait only 5s more to have clear shot from gap between islands instead of torping through me) Firing well behind friendly running to other direction away from stronger enemy situations can become grey and grey. Torps fired to cover team mate's retreat could well surprise enemy thinking he needs to only push little to get easy kill like destroyer with torps on reload. But with lots of incompetent players doing basically suicide rushes (instead of trying to kill enemy later) or possibly homing to friendly torps on purpose because of "I didn't get that enemy so I'll spoil team mate's match" it's better to avoid launching behind friendly if there's excessive time for him to do "180" into those torps. Without knowing what's inside smoke (hydro/radar or plane spotted enemy before smoke) rushing it is always very risky and best thing to do as destroyer is launch torps into it. There might be multiple enemies there. Even that one enemy (unless one or two gun shots short of sinking) might be in such position that he'll get perfect torp launch on you while you can't launch back immediately. And even finishing that low hp enemy would be bad trade for getting good shape DD torped.

Cruisers are becoming more and more pointless
EsaTuunanen replied to bloodynicknames's topic in General Discussion
Concealment works only until using guns. So overal jump from T8 to T9 would be bigger because T8 cruisers take permanent damage from fires. Actually trajectory isn't worser than in IJN cruisers. But USN cruisers lack nuclear HE shells and per caliber AP damage is also mediocre and neither they have fire rate... Until Des Moines but then also IJN gets railguns and game is even more about long range sniping. Then Pepsicola is visible as BB, while meeting now quite a few fast BBs and has just enough armor to prevent overpens. New Orleans gets rid of excessive visibility, but that doesn't help for long because getting something done means getting detected. Baltimore is just more of the same with standard heal/repair added. -

EsaTuunanen replied to bloodynicknames's topic in General Discussion
Translation: I miss only because of bad dispersion RNG, but anyone hitting me is cheater. Cruiser is easy target from 8km for anything but worst trajectory guns. (=USN 127mm/38 AA mortar) And if you don't want enemy team to share spotting information of you then you should have no business of seeing destroyers (or anything) spotted by your team mates! Ayway you shouldn't complaint about small caliber HEs in IJN cruiser. Besides small superstructure only bow and stern of Furry, Aoba and Myoko is vulnerable to DD caliber HEs with deck and sides of midship being impenetrable taking no direct damage and reducing fire chance. While USN cruisers are vulnerable to any caliber HE hits missing their turrets/belt armor. -
Here is why Detonation are so frustrating.
EsaTuunanen replied to Crusherheads's topic in General Discussion
Destroyers (like all warships) had their magazine in bottom level below waterline to make it hard target. No ships stored big piles of propellant and shells on deck or in upper parts to limit risk of catastrophic explosion... Though Brits neglected these wise habits before Jutland. And had ships blowing up from non-magazine hits just like in this game. -
Back to WoWs after a year being sick
EsaTuunanen replied to Ambiorix1032's topic in Newcomers' Section
No RN cruisers yet. WG is trying to figure out how to fit them into game because of fires being now pet complaint of BBs after high tier IJN torpedo boats have been extensively nerfed. (going to reach down to T4 soon) High Tier Soviet DDs (really more like very light cruisers) are going to get nerf hammered next for daring to hit BBs. (what else they would be firing at when there's so many BBs but little cruisers) After that we can start expecting USN DDs getting nerf cannon hit because they'll be best performing DDs and their torps are threat to German master race BBs. Speciality of those German BBs is that their internal armor prevents citadel hits except from plunging fire. So even if they show their side to guns of other BBs from close range they'll take 50% healable normal penetration damage instead of permanent and heavy damage from citadel hits. Tier 4 Kaiser and T5 König are also way more proof against anything but larger caliber HEs than USN BBs with only bow and stern plating penetrable by smaller HEs. So while that medium armor allows less overpens from big APs they shoudn't have excuse to complaint about HE shelling. German BBs also have good secondaries and couple of them even torps and of course neither could they be left with just decent AA. Whose mechanics got changed half year ago to favour bigger caliber weapons nerfing all roughly 20-40mm rapid firing AA guns which were actually the ones putting up real "walls of steel". In short USN BBs lost their position as closer range brawlers. Shouldn't be surprise that USN cruisers above Cleveland are in bad spot because of power creep with even Des Moines having to work hard because of not having rail guns to hit anything from full range. (+ AA mechanics change nerfed USN CA AA) After some very weak bottom tiers German cruisers overall have nuclear AP shell damage to punish broadsides and long range. Highest tiers have also gotten HE buffs to better compete with IJN flame throwers. Soviet cruisers have mostly lower caliber guns but high fire rate, rail gun trajectory with equally long range and strong AP for caliber against broadsides. And mostly very little armor until Tier 10 battlecruiser whose guns have good firerate, good HE, strong AP and laser flat trajectory. But really none of the cruisers are having easy time with so much BBs around to smash their citadel from any direction... Unless they can stay stealthed while firing. Hence Zao is still doing same damage as Montana. You sure you wasn't playing beta of some other game? Because I didn't see much of complaints then. Which was changed mainly because of Soviet cruisers would have been stratospherically OP with it having range comparable to BBs. -
First play some cruisers (or gunboat destroyers) to get touch to leading targets. With firerate of battleship guns you don't have time to practise hitting.

(Very) Bad Advice:JPN DDs should not use guns
EsaTuunanen replied to Sadstories's topic in General Discussion
If you're constantly turning so hard that you can never fire you're turning too much and losing speed. Best evasion tactic is controlled turns to avoid too much speed loss. -
It's good bet that more of Fujins/Kamikazes have higher skilled commanders than Minekazes. Also of course player pools might not be equally skilled. Besides torp launch angles Kamikaze has different gun layout with apparently better angles but torpedo boating wise Minekaze has one advantage: 39 knot speed gives lot more speed advantage over cruisers and gunboat destroyers allowing easier escape from enemies trying to corner you.
-
Actually Fujin/Kamikaze would be second best because of counting on enemies sailing into torps, but closed beta pre-order Gremlin is too op to be sold again. ("replaced" by tweak here and there Anshan at T6 with Soviet tech three gun firing penalty) Tier 7 has three possible premiums, Polish Blyskawica, coming Soviet Leningrad and USN Sims which is probably sold again some time. Blyskawica doesn't have the fastest firing guns, but 6 of them and they have flat trajectory unlike USN DDs and unlike Soviet tech three DDs it has decent torping capability. Leningrad is also going to have decent torping capability and super fast speed along with decent hitpoints. But unlike Kiev it has only two guns firing directly foward and using more than 2/5 guns needs showing side. Sims has either weakish suicide range torps or Tier 3 level very weak and slow torps but it has very fast firing guns which turn instantly. But unless you can handle lousy ballistics of USN 127mm/38 AA-mortar you'll have troubles hitting much anything from long range. Tier 8 Lo Yang is Benson with tweaks. Sorry, you have to keep dreaming on...

(Very) Bad Advice:JPN DDs should not use guns
EsaTuunanen replied to Sadstories's topic in General Discussion
If you think that proves Fubuki absolutely inferior it proves only that you're as bad as player as those bots. Nicholas, Farragut and Mahan have superior DPM compared to Gremyashchy and their turret rotation speed is light year ahead of Gremy's EM buffed 24s (36s stock) but in open they're easy prey if they're foolish enough to not disengage when I show them stern from 7km. Usually I take only little damage because average player just can't aim well enough with 127mm/38 AA mortar to near 8 km range to hit maneuvering DD consistently. Sure below 5km they can melt 50% hp away before I can even get guns aimed, but that would be my bad play. Unlike with Microsoft "modern" OS install automatically dumping everything and kitchen sink Aslain's mod pack allows you to choose only Training Room. Or then install it from this: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/61734-the-world-of-warships-modpack/ -
König: Bad ship, bad player or victim of tier 5 MM?
EsaTuunanen replied to thestaggy's topic in General Discussion
König actually suffers less from smaller caliber HE spam than New York. Basically any caliber HE hitting NY anywhere but belt armor or turrets penetrates doing direct damage. While König's midsection has thick enough deck and sides to resist penetration of anything but bigger caliber HEs. With non-penning HEs also being worser at starting fires. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
EsaTuunanen replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Got my eight Solo Warrior in Fault Line. Enemy BBs were simply too far at west edge of the map to get back and there weren't any cruisers and I had already killed enemy Ognevoi and put 5k hp Nicholas out of its misery. Undecisive Bogue even wasted his depleted two plane TB squad circling over me for about minute until AA RNG finally reached decision with both splashed down inside one second. (for once AA worked as it should if planes are perma parked in front of even weaker AA) Of course already damaged Bogue was out of position in cap and sinked fast leaving Zuiho as other CV doing lousy cross torping attempt with depleted squads losing one TB and eventually total of three fighters. While getting water splashed by despair fire of Kongo and New Mexico while moving to farthest side of cap putting up smoke for last couple dozen seconds. Wasn't even tight with plentiful 58s left in clock. Nice result... saying that as Gremlin specialist. Did you have tourist cruisers showing off their citadel or caught "airfields" pants down? -
Just detonated one Minekaze from 80% hp... Though this time it would be actually understandable because he took torpedo hit... Which would have nuked him anyway so at least this time it was actually bonus.
-
Only hits count. Des Moines would be the most player skill demanding of Tier 10 cruisers because of not having rail guns for easy hitting from max range unlike other cruisers making it more exposed to be shot at by everyone.
-
Could see whole teams or other destroyers trying to follow my Gremlin... Trying to inspire variation of this? "Democracy is a form of government that substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few." -George Bernard Shaw That could get even bot chosen.

Gearing & Fletcher getting nerfed aswell ? General balancing questions.
EsaTuunanen replied to br1zz's topic in General Discussion
Most cruisers could sneak closer than that. As Khaba would be visible all the time from half map away except when in some smoke they could do it alone without spotting destroyers. It's kinda like those Kongos complaining that they can't hit because of dispersion while they're 20km away from enemy. Though of course there's the thing of BBs easily sinking any cruiser showing itself. But that can't be helped by nerfing counters of BBs. -
Gearing & Fletcher getting nerfed aswell ? General balancing questions.
EsaTuunanen replied to br1zz's topic in General Discussion
Nothing must be able to hurt German master race BBs. So I guess we can expect carrier torpedo nerfs next or AA buffs. After all heavy handed IJN DD torpedo nerfs are already going to be made to reach down from high tiers. -
While this explains it better: Except missing that bonus for first hit detonation chance...
