Don't worry if occasional hit damages enemy. In return Danae has nice squishy citadel for any AP and if its angled HE will do just fine. Couple matches ago got citadel hit to Danae with 130mm HE...

Torpedo someone sitting in smoke? That's cheat. Cruiser showing its side to smokescreen from too close inviting citadel hits... Now where did those reports come from? Whoever designed current iteration of report system should be put under guardianship. There should have never been any options of reporting player who sinked player. (include sinked player's divisoin) Weighting of reports with low value for new and continuously bad performing players would be other addition needed to get it working somewhat decently. On the other hand I would have compliment from good/high karma player having higher +value. So is there some autopilot which takes all those BBs to uselessly hump map border? Away from anything like defending own base or attacking enemy base... Like I've said no matter how casual for the fun backyard football you were playing everyone would be expected to try to play.

Also smoke screens are going to attract even more torps now that those small smokes contain bigger juicier targets than just DDs. So the way it goes is that smoke is there to prevent RN CLs from getting crippled/nuked by any non-DD and hydro is there to keep them from getting nuked by torps from DD or other cruiser. Or he'll just let secondaries melt down that offending cruiser...

The dire state of CVs - will something be done?
EsaTuunanen replied to Syrchalis's topic in General Discussion
Your bottlesheep got its shiny paintjob scratched by enemy fire when it needed to move from map border? Even Bogue and Langley would easily outrun submerged WW2 era sub and neither would sub have easy time at surface. Subs just would be extremely hard to fit into game context in any meaningful way. -
Mahan. Was it the best possible way to improve Farragut?
EsaTuunanen replied to ulcusrodens's topic in Destroyers
Correct, you're supposed to change playstyle to account fro new counters. All classes are expected to keep learning to survive new counters... except BBs. Their counters get nerfed and "counter counters". You should start by angling your ship to bounce some of those incoming APs. RN CLs are stuck with AP so that they can't spam BBs with HE and threaten them too much. -
30.000 players On-Line - is this new record?
EsaTuunanen replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Saw many times well over 30k in months after game "opening" to open beta. But I guess we'll see some kind figures tomorrow evening when all the weekend tomatoes appear. -
Those tiers have lovely squishy citadel with good easy to hit size. Just move to their side in gunboat DD, load AP and start farming citadel hits. Lot easier than hitting citadel of Furutaka, Königsberg or Kirov with its overballasted to underwater citadel.

Concealment expert or Survivability expert for US DDs?
EsaTuunanen replied to Blixies's topic in General Discussion
CE doesn't anymore have effect to also gunfire detection penalty. That was changed couple patches ago. -
Until destroyers start looking for smoke screens to torp instead of BBs...

Can too much PvE trigger a 4.07 violation?
EsaTuunanen replied to Ben_Dust's topic in Newcomers' Section
Did it come with clean operating system install and not some "cleaned from user data" OS? -
AP might be better if semiangled to avoid overpens (broadside Cleveland is too anorexic for DD AP) because nearly whole side is uniformly thin. Though for USN DDs at longer ranges trajectory should do some "shell angling". New Mexico, Colorado and Nagato make real nice AP spam target because of mostly uniformly thin 25mm side plating...

Client is fully self-contained. You can copy content of game's folder to any drive/PC and run it from there. (of course if you copy client to different computer having incompatible settings it might cause problems) Of course if client isn't up to date it's going to update itself. But you can open replays in client without triggering launcher/update check. That's how people watch older replays. And remove content of that "Updates" folder inside game folder to prevent temporary update files from eating space. You can easily end up with 5+ GB worth of no longer needed files in there.

You're wrong in that. They aren't random but at least destroyers have insane buff to chance of getting detonated by first hit(s) of the match: At least 8/10 detonations happen when at full or high HP. After having survived hits to lose ~25% of HP probability of detonation is only fraction. Below 50% HP we're talking about single digit percentage of detonations happening. While if they were actually random they should happen evenly at various hp levels. Sample of 70 detonations is enough to rule out random chance. Especially when same applies to destroyers I've detonated. Out of some two dozen only couple have been from below high hp... Well, at least full hp Nicholas detonated by single hit yesterday didn't report me unlike previous apparently did. In receing end last time managed to cripple Minekaze with torp hit while avoiding its torps getting finishing gun salvo fired, while it fired single shell to my 100% hp ship... Actually torpedo hits happen lot closer to magazines than gun shell hits. And they pack almost ten times as much explosive than most AP shells. Mine/torpedo was also the usual reason for those rare compared to number of losses magazine detonation of destroyers... Not gunfire because also destroyer's magazines are below waterline and compared to size of the ship they're small target.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

At least you were fighting. Haven't there been cases of AFKs getting Solo warrior? I remember at least one such having being mentioned. -
Why is matchmaking on destroyers so terrible?
EsaTuunanen replied to Mario_NL's topic in General Discussion
Think positively: - Still the stealthiest ship around. - Absolutely free visibility to 100% time see dangerous enemies without danger of getting surprised by them. So just go to where enemy team is pushing, take position ahead of them pointing stern to them and start kiting/wiggling tail few hundred meters outside you detectability to launch torpedo salvos on their path. When doing it properly launching torps for hits from target's 1-2 or 10-11 o'clock BB is going to take at least one hit from "interleaved" 6-torp launch when turning into them, two or more if going straight/evading to wrong way. Four launchers gives excellent flexibility for that. You can do such launch for two enemies, or fire 12 torps in short time if multiple enemies are in tight group. Or fire six torps every half minute at one target, he might not expect more torps so soon. Not having lots of stealthy enemy DDs around makes it lot less demanding in planning ahead because of less danger of getting into knife fight. And big ships can be hit from full range. Possibly with AP for nice alpha damage if some 25mm plated BB shows more than little of its side. Up to 3300 salvos eat New Mexicos/Colorado/Nagatos nicely. -

How about you try against other players instead of WG's bots? And you should be happy that they're BBs and not nearly as fast as you cruisers. Though German BBs usually have that nice tight couple shell bundle taking good chunk of your hp when they shoot at you. -
Now it's correct.
-
Works against USN single TB squad to minimize hits. Good player in IJN CV can just cross torp forcing hits.

Very crude 1-szenario-approach to the non linar rewards - for those which are curious.
EsaTuunanen replied to havaduck's topic in General Discussion
He was worser than five WG bots in team... And that's how game's reward model works. Decreased reward per work for good players the more they carry... While of course getting reported more than occasionally because they sinked that potato enemy who turned to show side/kept sailing in straight line for citadel hits, sailed straight to torps or sat in smoke taking torp. (god forbid if you detonate bad player, that's even surer report) Ironically spotting and tanking reward intended to encourage proper playing give also counterproductive XP: Now even AFKs sitting in spawn get some XP easily if enemies get to rear and shoot at them while getting spotted. Couple days ago actually had cruiser just sitting in spawn getting 100+ XP. Not sure if that was from "tanking" and spotting or was it bot who fired couple hits back at enemies. Another AFK cruiser got some dozens of XP. -
Giving mid turrets better firing angles would be extremely problematic no matter what was tried in design. There's limited deck space with more or less "fixed" position smoke stacks etc taking their own space. And you just couldn't keep rising them higher and higher because that would be very bad for ship's stability. Not to mention would be longer way to get ammunition from magazine. Though in case of Leningrad isn't the joke that double 76mm turret blocking one of two rear gun from firing to rear while itself not shooting at surface targets... (and having nonexistent AA damage compared to 12,7mm peashooter) Actually single mount 130mm's real traverse speed was 5 degrees per second. Just like Minekaze's even slower gun traverse speed before its buff.
-
Well, aren't you guys demanding to judge other players not by their stats, but by their actions if they even try to play? So when team's top tier Balless&Brainless boats (+most others) are heading to [edited] border or useless corner as far possible from both teams bases only logical conclusion is that they would disqualify for handling any ship, including citizenship if it needed passing brain functionality test. No matter how casual for the fun backyard football you would be playing, everyone would be expected to try to play instead of standing in corner or kicking ball to own goal.

You need to plan ahead and "pre aim" guns like if you were driving battleship, just without any armor or hitpoints... Because awfully lots of cruisers have faster turning guns with Furry Taco getting lots of flak from same 36s traverse time. And when meeting enemy destroyer from close range... Try to avoid getting still closer and at first opportunity start taking range. Because those gunners seem to also have serious problems at hitting from short range to smaller than cruiser size target. (unzoomed "snap shots" seem to work better) I thought it was about gulag slaves in hamster wheel powering turret traverse being half starved to dead...

weekends + mid tier = lose lose lose lose lose lose
EsaTuunanen replied to MahBallz's topic in General Discussion
Still won't work any better when Balless&Brainless [edited]head to rear border or corner away from enemy base allowing whole enemy flank to push freely... Along with RNGesus once again making your destroyer detonate from first hit of the match. (detonations aren't random but rigged to blow you from full/high hp) -
If they had staggered all three front turrets so that second could fire over first and third over second those ships might have just have capsized when shipyard's drydock was filled/ship launched. Rising turrets higher with longer barbettes would have just worsened their top heaviness.
