    Bots in ranked?

Just requiring some amount of damage done/XP from capping for getting that star would go long way for actually separating players into ranks basing to skill. That would also prevents AFKs/bots from rising up in ranks. Ah, WG has now gotten ranked matches stats visible. Looks like that stat page code doesn't exactly understand having survived all matches because of me having 0.00 k/d from nine matches and 19 kills.

Why I am done for the day ( at least )....

Untill you get that team half full of people who wouldn't qualify even for captaincy of child's bark boat. Normally bad players would at least stick with others and while maybe not hitting farther targets would no doubt welcome closer targets. But if someone runs to hide in farthest corner, goes to hug border for the match, suicides alone against half the enemy fleet etc, that's being screw up on purpose. Gremy might do as well. Actually once done that job of cruiser in helping Colorado to defend flank when only own cruiser in that side showed his side to enemy fast and rest of the team headed toward other flank to attack enemy through long route. Opposition was Mutsuki, Aoba, Cleveland, Nürnberg and Nagato. Though that Aoba died at about same time with own team cruiser to almost simultaneous eating of one of my torps and Colorado's salvo... Which seemed to make other cruisers little scared to push with Nagato. (I helped Cleveland in that decision with long range bombardment)

    RANKED - Naming and praising

Too bad there's no post match chat during score screens. Would be nice to remind cruiser players that if they don't want to get sinked they shouldn't show their vulnerable sides to DD. And in that match would have liked to thank that NM player, like he probably also me. (we both did High Caliber and I also Confederate leaving not so much damage done by other four players) Sure would be hard time to make cruiser players paranoid about surprise citadel salvo like BB players are paranoid about stealth torping. Few days ago had seven kill Gremy match in which launching torps toward one about stationary Königsberg was waste of time because APs killed him lot faster than torps got there. There shouldn't be any difference between Gnevny and Ognevoi because of identical guns despite of different mounts/turrets.

    Gnevny

Guess it comes down to having properly twisted playstyle to fit ship's peculiarities... Kinda like some disregarding Gnevny as DD because of instead of dodgeable and unreliably hitting torps it has guns capable to killing cruisers. Aren't those standard requirements for shining in any ship? Anyway here's that seven kill match in which Königsberg gets AP'd before torps got there: https://www.dropbox.com/s/owh3vp0af49upkv/20151201_210157_PRSD001-Gremyashchy-1942_10_NE_big_race%207%20kill%20Conf%20HC%20Double%20Strike.wowsreplay?dl=0 Like I said with those guns you're not some quiet mouse...

    RANKED - Naming and praising

So far 9/9 in Gremy with 66k average damage and about ~2000xp. That little monster should easily take though tier 5/6 ranked. Just have to try to time next matches to potato free time for hopefully having the pleasure of more team mates like that New Mexico: (instead of that AFK/bot NY) It's even juicier when distracted cruisers show their side from closee range to 130mm gunned DD. Once sinked ~18k Omaha inside 10 seconds from first hits...
  6. EsaTuunanen

    Gnevny

Actually gun performance isn't somehow boosted. It's just that USN 127mm gun was just plain weaker in comparison. 130mm had lot more heavier shell and propellant charge than 3mm caliber difference would imply.

Players refusing to work as a team

Then you definitely don't need any practise in gunnery. More likely better positioning would be area to look at. Like identifying that weaker flank and going there if close enough to reach it for preventing its fast collapse then giving enemy numerical superiority. I assume you've often noticed something like that. But then there are those times when it feels like most of the team's IQ would be absolute zero in Celcius scale. Only solution to that is avoid playing during those comatose potato hours. For example sunday afternoon-evening is sometimes plain awful, because of only 25% chance for decent team. Match maker can screw 50% of matches with inferior ships. And in case of equal ships there's 50% change for half of the team not qualifying even for captaincy of child's bark boat. And that problem is also at higher tiers. This one was half week ago. Souther flank just suicided with one of those Phoenixes hugging island to limit his enemy detection and maneuvering ability to get suicide range torped by that enemy Gnevny. (4km torps, 7km detectability) While other Phoenix raced ahead alone instead of staying in some kind formation for higher firepower and protection. Again instead of turning back for buying time to shoot that highly visible Gnevny that New Jerk just sailed straight to sink from next suicide range torp salvo. And that own team Gnevny just hid in center behind island with thumbs deep up in his arse instead of covering that flank against enemy DDs. When he finally managed to find those mysterious WASD-keys he basically failed completely to hit that enemy Gnevny while getting himself sinked. And that enemy Gnevny wasn't even good player. After rushing back from other flank I easily seal clubbed him without taking much any damage saving CVs. But by then also other flank had failed.

Poor players in high tier ships.

I know a player who now has over 2850 matches... With average damage slightly over 6k! (barely 10k in Cleveland in New Mexico) Had displeasure of having that two years decayed potato as CV player in match.

Ranked matchmaking - 7 losses in a row

Limitations are there for making you find strategies to circumvent them. Nothing is more enjoyable than killing cruisers in DD... You really should have bought Gremy instead of Sims as that "universal sailor" ship.
  10. EsaTuunanen

Players refusing to work as a team

Your average damage actually isn't bad and your hit ratio is very good. Do you rush in agressively? Your survival rate is low so you might attack too agressively. And surviving for as long as possible for having time to do as much damage as possible is more important than doing decent damage in short time before getting sinked.

Ranked matchmaking - 7 losses in a row

Unless enemy team just runs away to hide in corner getting that win needs putting hurt on enemy team. Why damage shouldn't be done if it's possible to do it to enemy? If you don't have other targets or no other good target any ship is worth of damaging. That's the only way to win if team has players not doing their part. You think this would have been victory without both me and that New Mexico doing High Caliber worth of damage? And that AFK New York definitely shouldn't have gotten any star. Also some circle sailing bot without damage or capping should never get any stars from victories. Which is what spoils the functionality of this ranking system. Those and other comatose potatoes can simply fail their way upwards because of getting stars without any merits and being safe from getting "demoted" for constant lack of merits.
  12. EsaTuunanen

    Locating an Enemy' Name

Alt-key should show also player names. Besides that distance and shell travel time to aiming point so important for long range gunnery.
  13. EsaTuunanen

    Gnevny

Actually Gnevny/Gremy is excellent DD hunter-killer with good enough stealth to get close and simply outguns any similar tier DD of other tech trees in either accuracy or ROF. Of course you just need lots of that strategic planning in positioning etc to avoid getting targeted by cruisers from closer range while doing that. And DD's maneuverability with accurate guns allows hammering cruisers from range unless "going for the throat" and citadel hits. Though for Cleveland APs don't work but on other hand it's just lovely crunchy HE target for long range bombardment.
  14. EsaTuunanen

    Gnevny

Those Gnevny's 4km range torps sure wouldn't be usefull for most of the time. But torps are unreliable anyway. I think did this in 0.5.0.0 I think few days ago even got High Caliber just with guns in one ranked battle. In yesterday's last match (seven kills) found one about stationary Königsberg apparently using island to protect him from most of my team. Unfortunately for him he had his side perfectly visible... Firing torps was waste of time, because APs killed him faster than torps got there. (total of three torp hits in match) Besides the more usual Confederate and High Caliber got also Double Strike when two torp hits detonated BB while I simultaenously finished nearby (finally angling) Omaha with HE salvo after first making that already badly damaged ship more damaged with some APs. And in earlier match in Solomons had enemy Kuma come from center and keep sailing in straight line to cap tunnel visioning into who knows what. Only other own team ship hitting him was BB who made couple hits... with HE... So I just blinked him with AP salvoes. They're just completely different from IJN DDs. In IJN DD you basically want to be as attention attracting/seeking as mouse and ideally detected only from torpedoes. In 130mm gunned Soviet DD you're more like some mustelid... Especially like ratel or wolverine, which have that attitude problem of not respecting much anything. (including even lion or bear respectively)

    What to do with teamkillers

If you fire from second line and without making sure every friendly ship is far from torpedo firing path then you're guilty.
  16. EsaTuunanen

Thought I'd seen it all ...

I love straight line charging cruisers. It's easier to hit those with torps and do citadel hits with APs. Fully mastered Gremyashchy is nice little cruiser killer. That stationary behind island sitting Königsber in yestersday's seven kill match sinked from AP fire before torps had chance to reach him.

    New Gaming desktop PC

You need to divide components/parts into different categories: To those which keep their value/performance long. And to those which get old in couple years. (no matter how much you pay) Good example if CPU vs GPU. Because of thing called reality progress in CPU power has slowed down and todays higher end CPU will perform quite well four to five years from now. Again even those graphics cards meant for people with many times more money than sense are crap by then and all of them loose lots of their value/performance rating in couple years. Especially now that in next year GPUs should finally be made at modern manufacturing process instead of the one they've been stuck at for four years. Also graphics cards is very easy to replace unlike CPU. So it's better to avoid spending on overly expensive graphics card and get higher end CPU instead of mid end CPU. And especially nvidia has gotten greedy in pricing. Case is one part which can easily stay usefull for 10+ years, if its just made from durable materials instead of cheap Chinese plastics. Power supply is another one which can last 5+ years if it has quality components, which doesn't have relation with brand image. If you already have accessories and monitor £1000 will easily get powerfull PC which stays as good gaming PC for that five years with change of only one part. And for example in CPU's sometimes you can get higher end CPU features/performance with cheaper price than i7s cost: Intel has same CPUs branded for corporate/workstations under Xeon brand name. (Xeon-E3 v5 models are based to Skylake) Only thing those Xeons lack is overclocking ability but ever for that you would need K-model Core CPU. (and there just isn't much easy overclocking room in todays CPUs unlike during Core 2 era)

Thought I'd seen it all ...

You're welcome to try if you see my DD in enemy team... Though wiser action would be heading to other end of the map.

    New Gaming desktop PC

For gaming PC every big brand PC is usually plain über garbage and that's no exception. Case is prehistoric crap. First of all there really isn't much space to put bigger higher end graphics cards in there. (if CPU was high end as new GPU two years later keeps PC good for gaming for another two years) And equally bad is that stone age design with PSU on top. That worked well when heat output of components was well below 100W and PSU had so bad efficiency it itself produced almost same amount of waste heat. But that design should have been left to last millennium. Modern PSU wastes only 6-8% of electricity needing very little cooling for its own use, while components of high end gaming PC easily produce 200-300 watts of heat. That prehistoric case design exposes PSU to all that heat putting stress on its most important components for producing smooth DC output. Even noisy fan speed can't compensate for that rise in ambient temperature and because of lots of stuff inside PSU, its fan is bad for exhausting all that heat from case. Having rear exhaus fan below PSU position could exhaust some of the heat before it can rise up to PSU. But as usual for cheap Chinese production exhaust fan of that case is half blocked because of very restrictive cheap a*s stamping in front of it: http://www.microcenter.com/product/455466/XPS_8900_Desktop_Computer Yuo would think that at least they would modern design stamping tools, but they're still using same 20 years old ones! So you would have to "show Dremel" to it before having even remotely half acceptable case for gaming PC. Also PSU is no doubt something gotten cheap enough and definitely with cheap enough components. And that GPU was struggling to be mid end already couple years ago. Storage: Looks to be sthat overly expensive "hybrid" drive, which last time I checked cost lot more than same size HDD and many times bigger that its cache SSD drive separately.

Thought I'd seen it all ...

Yesterday's last match had enemy Königsberg who had stopped behind island. Too bad he showed his side perfectly for 130mm APs. Did total of seven kills, one Devastating Strike from torped BB, which had low HP Omaha nearby I killed simultaneously with guns for Double Strike, Confederate and also High Caliber. Yeah, there must be some spell how some get those trains of straight running BBs for killing one per every torpedo attack.

And DDs will get overpenned with 130mm APs. Except maybe around engine room which might have couple tinfoil layers glued together around it instead of one tinfoil.

1900+ games played, time for self criticism

Tenryo, Kuma, Furutaka, Aoba, Phoenix, Omaha, Königsberg and Nürnberg are fully valid targets for citadel hits if they're showing their side at 8km range. Quite a difference in damage with AP vs HE: Kuma, Königsberg and Furutake just didn't know to protect their side. Also normal non-citadel penetrations do more damage than HE hitting to same side armor. Form perfect angle it works also little farther away. Made few citadel hits from 9km. And when range drops toward 5km you don't anymore need exactly straight angle. https://www.dropbox.com/s/mopr30opd7mcp32/Omaha%20Citadelled.jpg?dl=0 Ten seconds before screenshot moment that target misprioritizing Omaha had ~18k hp. First salvo was two normal pens and two citadels, next salvo hits 4½s later were all citadels, like third salvo hits another 4½s later. Actually that 120mm Bofors in Blyskawica might also do decently because of high speed flat trajectory. USN 127mm mortar just has too small propellant charge to have good fast speed trajectory with lots of kinetic energy.

Yep, 130mm guns are just lovely. You can go hunt bad cruiser players with either raining HE(ll) from long range or from 8km APs citadel most cruisers you meet showing their side. Just had seven kill Gremy match (one torped ship three hits) in Big Race and found one Königsberg sitting stationary with side perfectly visible. Basically launching torps was waste of time because APs took him out before torps got there. (total AP damage of match 31k)
  24. EsaTuunanen

    DON'T show any skill

Well, isn't that called as "boom, headshot"? I've done that to Königsberg more than once with lovely Soviet 130mm DD gun.

Question about the confederate time reward

20% or 100%, doesn't matter. Except just going straight for 100% helps more toward getting also High Caliber and means one less enemy to shoot back when taking on next enemy.
