While being mostly unarmored ship citadel of Atlanta has decent belt armor for such light ship ("all or nothing" armor scheme) and is far from easiest cruiser to citadel through it. At least unless you play dumb and keep your side at 90 degree angle...

Fast reload torp walls would be major danger to even DD trying to kill Shimakaze.

A call for a Division Only Gameplay mode (Teamwork play)
EsaTuunanen replied to Terox's topic in General Discussion
At least there should be some kind of "minigame" tests or some system for checking that player understands what different classes are supposed to do and what not. And then dividing players to different pools according to that: Fail boaters and those who actually try to play. In potato hours there are awfully lots of battlesheep/battlesh*t players hiding in rear who are plain playing for the enemy team... One even hugging CV! And now saw CV player thinking its BB and driving into middle of map!- 10 replies

They're all "discipline is bad for upbringing" people. So no one ever gets actually truly demanded to behave and learn manners. Just looking into any school should tell immediately modern upbringing methods are fail. Next we'll probably start celebrating and cherishing nail sticking out from floor planks instead of using proper tool to put it back into its place.

A call for a Division Only Gameplay mode (Teamwork play)
EsaTuunanen replied to Terox's topic in General Discussion
Rule number 1: Don't ever play in Sundays after early morning. Grinding forehead with cheese grater might be about as comfortable with every potato and their pet dog playing. Playing at other times makes game lot more enjoyable.- 10 replies

Playing lot in T5 ship T3 ships aren't rare sight in matches. It just depends on "center" tier of the match. If match is centered at T4 there are ships from tiers 3, 4 and 5.

That's about what I had with one Omaha player about two months ago. He just kept spamming 5km range torps to enemy 10km away. While himself never moving forward of spawn area, not even when enemy was clearly loosing and being pushed back and shot maybe couple gun salvoes in whole match. I played in that day but it was another match in which enemy should have been afraid of DD. They would have won by points by not attacking me/trying to cap... But nicely they just kept coming despite of me curb stomping every incoming ship.

Suggestion! Increase the amount of player commends per day
EsaTuunanen replied to Noobsplatter's topic in General Discussion
Having number of compliments and reports per certain number of matches would be better than fixed number per day. It's also easy to run out of reports if playing at time with lots of second line torpers etc. -
Got stuck on a island so went to the pub
EsaTuunanen replied to SonofaSailor's topic in Newcomers' Section
Also if you can't make turn it's better to directly than "slide sideways" into island. If you slide into island there might be obstacle both in front and behind making it impossible to get out. One trick for helping to make turn in time is cutting throttle to half. That gives little more time for rudder to fully turn slightly shortening distance needed for avoiding collision. It also works when turning into torpedoes. In fact that way BB can get rid of lots of speed really fast possibly making all torps miss from ahead of it. -
Stealth and speed are two of the more important aspects of DDs so Mahan is still weaker than Benson. And besides half km better base detectability Benson has -10% concealment module giving over 1,2 km better stealth. With better speed that's notable advantage for slipping away from cruisers.

SIMS Needs Buffing - WarshipStats/ShipAnalytics Proves It
EsaTuunanen replied to PoetRaptor's topic in Destroyers
Except that ship itself with speed flag and speed boost might be almost faster than those "upgrade" torps so hitting much anything with them would require bad playing from target. And one or two hits wouldn't really be problem for that tier BB because of low damage. So compared to Mahan with its current torps Sims is rather misbalanced.- 85 replies

I suspect that player has really mediocre or plain bad stats if he expects others to miss sitting duck at 6,5km distance.

And T5 is good for fun because of not having to be concerned about repair costs... or cost of ordnance. At tier 9 you can really say "How much is the fish?" 5,5km range is enough to stealth torp incoming enemies and when you're in parallel course but ahead of enemy and four launchers gives big amount of fish to throw at enemy. Also for ambushing enemy coming in or out some choke point or moving past island it gives lots of flexibility. Earlier Nicholas was definitely one of the highlights of USN DD line with Farragut and Mahan giving very little buff to counter worser stealth and increasing toughness of opposition. With recent torp buff to DDs between it and Fletcher there's now more advance in there. Again shell trajectory and penetration looses to Gnevny's 130mm Its torp range is again "suicide range" 4km loosing badly to Nicholas. And cruiser slow gun traverse needs highly anticipating and ahead planning playstyle to work against DDs. Not part of this thread.

Unless it's been changed from closed beta every ship of same tier has same repair cost. -

Actually when involved players know what they're doing there are situations when there isn't really need for communication. Couple months ago held flank in Gremy with good Colorado player basically without help from others against enemy Mutsuki, Aoba, Cleveland, Nurnberg and Nagato. Last of them sinked few seconds before rest of the team had finally capped enemy base. Problem is players who don't know what they should do in general and barely even know their ship. Communication alone doesn't make them do soemthing usefull. Unless it would be constant guiding... Like for exmple making DD stay in open where he can spot dangerous enemies from safe distance instead of hugging wrong side of island to get surprised by enemies from close range and sinked in seconds. 1000 XP would be rather too much considering how hard it would be to achieve for example in cruiser or gunship DD spending most of time in still essential job of keeping enemy DDs away from BBs. And neither that enemy Mutsuki would have deserved star because torping AFK/bot BB doesn't take any skill. -
XVM? Nope, stats will be hidden after all
EsaTuunanen replied to Sharana's topic in General Discussion
So the standard silver spoon up the rear and world should revolve around your belly button behavior... Sure knowing something about performance of others would help to decide who to support and which flank needs help. But when it leads to players not playing at all in match or wasting minutes showing that their back skin itches for old fashioned and working behavior teaching method that's clear sign it's bad and detrimental for game. MM's biggest problems come from allowing fail divisions and not balancing disadvantage in one class by advantage in other. -
The Kiev is a Monster - Soviet T7 Gameplay [203k damage]
EsaTuunanen replied to Pupu_prpr's topic in Destroyers
Easy ranges. Often first salvo hits to side aspect BB from 14km. Same for typical cruiser from 12km. Once even got blessed by RNGesus dispersion first salvo Coup de Grace from 12km to Minekaze who few minutes earlier just barely got away from me. Maybe you would want to ask that other team how bad 130mm's trajectory is? -

EsaTuunanen replied to Pupu_prpr's topic in Destroyers
All different mount versions of 130mm had same barrel length so there shouldn't be any differences in shell speed and penetration. You obviously haven't tried USN DDs. 130mm's trajectory is very manageable to max standard range and AFT is very beneficial. In Gremyaschy I like nothing more than bombarding cruisers from long range. (except maybe killing them with citadel hits) Once even did RNGesus blessed dispersion first salvo Coup de Grace from 12km away to Minekaze who had few minutes earlier barely gotten away from me. -

At tier 5 and 6 those are totally insignificant for everyone even remotely half decent at shooting enemy. -

Getting star from victory should need earning it with certain amount of damage or then with XP from capping. (or maybe some "spotting damage" mechanism) Basically almost all the problems in ranked come from AFKs/bots/comatose potatoes being able to fail they way up by parasitizing those who know how to play. Like that New York getting totally undeserved star: Well driven BB can definitely dish out heavy damage but if enemy has semi-competent DDs and your team is incompetent in "anti-DD" you'll be eventually hurried in dodging torps. Capping should be first priority for DDs when ever game mode involves that to just stay even with enemy. But beyond that hurting any enemy is plus for the team... if you can do it reasonably safely. Trust me, you wouldn't want to face my Gremy in Cleveland one on one. -
Welcome to the club if you can't figure out how MM works... But overall that's very balanced for MM with even ship tiers being even. Unlike in one curbstomping I did couple days ago with enemy having 5 vs 3 tier VIs, 6 vs 4 tier Vs and only one tier IV.

SIMS Needs Buffing - WarshipStats/ShipAnalytics Proves It
EsaTuunanen replied to PoetRaptor's topic in Destroyers
During closed beta comparing Mahan to Sims at least Mahan had option for torps not so horribly underranged compared to detectability. And now Mahan has way superior 9,2km range 55kt speed 11k damage Mk15s as upgrade over Sims' 48 knot 8k damage tier 3 torps. And Farragut those quite useful 6,4km torps as upgrade. So with its current torps Sims would be better fitting to T6. I originally intended to buy only Sims but fortunately then bought also Gremlin. While cruiser slow gun traverse makes it hard to master its "skill roof" is really high. With properly skilled up skipper it can hunt and kill cruisers by either citadelling them with APs at short-medium ranges or with long range HE bombardment.- 85 replies

Lack of Teamplay and what can be done about it
EsaTuunanen replied to Terox's topic in General Discussion
DD is good for going in front of others. Probably once in a while get some players to follow me on other flank instead of all lemming training on one side of map. Isn't it normally one of the problems that no one wants to take lead? -
2 things that have to be improved
EsaTuunanen replied to Yamato_Musashi's topic in General Discussion
Actually at short ranges "parallax error" between front and stern guns can cause misses when trying to hit small target like incoming DD. But there are times when it definitely feels like RNG decides "This salvo won't hit anything even if you stick gun muzzles into side of target." That happens even with DD gun dispersion. -

EsaTuunanen replied to Sharana's topic in General Discussion
Adding "fog of war" with enemy team player names visible only after match to make comparing teams impossible would be one option. But better would have been really put dampers on what mods are accepted. I've had statswise just good player play absolutely superbly in Isokaze also using guns to finish low hp enemies. Basically he was only other player in team who played well in that match. Not really needing weather also in game. Isn't it enough that late autumn/winter weather often makes it normal to forgot when that weird phenomenon called sun was last visible?
