Personally I think the use of mods to help you aim are disgusting. they really aren't necessary. 'Oh but it would help new players learn how to play quicker!'... No it doesn't... they aren't learning anything. Clicking the red cross or whatever takes all that away. Besides, it doesn't take that long to learn how to play, couple of games in co-op against AI and you already know the basics, move into random battles, again after a couple of games you're already got the gist of competing with real players. So what if you're not coming out of co-op battles as a pro and not landing 90% citadel hits from 20km like those with the mod? *of course that is an exaggeration but you see the point* This is where you develop your own skills to get better!! Kinda like in real life you know?
My other point is that the mod is tearing the community apart which makes things unpleasant for everybody. There is already 'them and us' but it also divides those who don't use it. Some players are now too quick to blame their own errors or misfortune or other players skill when their ships are killed legitimately but will not accept anything but 'you only killed me because you're using a mod'. Yes people are going to moan regardless but why should we give them another excuse?
There is the other view that is 'well, if you can't beat them, join them!' This is weak. Some of us actually want to play and develop our own skills legitimately and have fun without something that is essentially cheating, whether legal by game rules or not, but our fun is restricted by others using this mod. After all, this is why we're playing this game and all other games we like, because they are fun! Or at least they were...
I realise those in favour of the mod are going to disregard everything that I and others say and just simply reply with 'QQ moar' or 'TL;DR' but that doesn't help reach a solution.
