Roma - Tier VIII Premium Italian BB suggestion
Affeks replied to ImperialAdmiral's topic in Battleships
Nope, last time I checked they were better. Kongo 1.8 Konig 1.8 (was nerfed from 2.0) New york/texas 1.8 Iron duke 1.8 Thats just tier 5, Fuso, Wyoming, New Mexico all have 1.5 so you must have been thinking about those, all those have 12 guns per broadside which is the reason for bad sigma. -
Roma - Tier VIII Premium Italian BB suggestion

A very important fact to take from that post is its dispersion 138max dispersion / 1.5 sigma So is this the national flavor they're going for? Cruiser dispersion with significantly nerfed sigma? Will they have a linear dispersion like the japanese, if thats the case then they will not be good at brawling, but instead beat everything in sniping battles. Will they keep the dispersion module? So many interesting questions here. -

Actually Yamato beats Conqueror at short range, but Conqueror beats Yamato at long range since conqueror has a significantly heavier shell. Penetration on range is much more important than pen in shortrange. The difference between 100mm of pen at point blank doesnt matter since it would mean the difference between 800mm of pen and 900mm of pen. On long range however the differencebetween 300mm of pen and 400mm of pen is make or break when going for citadels. Conqueror 457mm vs Yamato 460mm +++ Shorter fuse Better Auto bounce angles Higher Alpha Better long range pen Much better HE --- Slower velocity Worse short range pen .1 Worse sigma 1 less gun Worse turret layout. Can overmatch 32mm Its pretty balanced if you ask me.

I agree, you kinda need to get to tier 5 before BBs get any sort of enjoyment. If they just made the 14" guns Myogi's strength not her weakness I would be fine with her tho
-
The 3x3 450mm can be very good. Despite what many believe, Yamato's guns have pretty bad stats for being an 18.1" gun, the only thing it really has over Conquerors 457s are extra sigma and the ability to overmatch 32mm. Other than that Conqueror beats it in both pen (afaik) and alpha. Thats without adding that the HE is better and Autobounce angles are better. From what we know about the 450mm gun, it will have much better velocity and alpha will be about 100-200 more, so really the only advantage Yamato will have in terms of gunpower is overmatching 32mm and possibly the higher sigma.

Currywurst/Gneisenau 0.6.8 IFHE secondary build finally worth it?
Affeks replied to Affeks's topic in Battleships
I tried both builds, and its pretty much a coin flip each game which build is more suited. Sometimes tanking and kiting is more important, other times pushing and damage dealing is more important. So pick your poison -
The 406s are more than good enough and are slightly less punishing to use wrong. A secondary build will actually net you a decent amount of damage, but relies on good positioning AND aggresive play. If you are not that confident go for a survival build instead. Fire Prevention and basics of survivability will do you wonders combined with superintendent. FdG is super agile for being so large, use it to your advantage to catch flanking cruisers or DDs off guard. Your guns suck at damaging angled BBs, so use HE wheneven you end up in a bow lock with an enemy BB.

Yeah thats partly why I really didnt suggest it before now. Thats also the reason I set the practicality of quad 16" guns into question as well. The reason I ignored the impracticalities and suggested them anyways is simply because of the nature of the game. Afaik the Russians had terrible beam to length ratio on their ww2 BB designs (pr 23 being the criminal here), but I expect WG to implement them with said ratio AND keeping the speed it was designed to have, despite realistically probably being slower than even Yamato. I dont mind the lack of compartmentalisation that much. It is kind of a biproduct of having superior turret layouts (both 2A0 and 2A1 are much better than having 2A1 or 2A2 with the same amount of guns). And even historically one shot could in theory knock out both pairs despite the bulkhead seperating the two. I mean if the turret is disabled by having a shell penetrate the barbette then having a wall inside the turret itself doesnt matter now does it. As for the lack of practical turret layouts I have nothing to say, but I still think having the french have a 2A1 at tier 10 will create the best way to balance the amount of 2A1 and 2A2 ships at the tier. With that said though I really want a high tier 1A2 kite master battleship. I think the 1A2 layout has the potential of creating at least a somewhat unqiue playstyle. Personally I havent found much info about such a layout for modern battleships and I would love some insight on how it would realisitcally play out in terms of practicality.

I never liked that idea. We have enogh AB - XY setups at tier 10. If in this case it would be a choice between 4x4 380mm and 4x3 406mm then it would be yet another BB that potentially takes away any unique features Montana had left. Despite that I really want 15" guns on tier 10 and a BB that shoots more than 12 shots a volley, hence why I suggested the quints despite the lack of any historical data on it. Edit: Also wasnt Russian projekt 23/24 at some point planned to have 4x3 406mm guns in a similar configuration as Montana. With that info we might need to expect the Russian tier 10 being yet another AB - XY ship with a 12 shot firedensity. So i'd like to avoid as many AB - XY setups as possible.

I always pictured the 15" guns having like 1.6-1.7 sigma, 16" guns 1.8-1.9 and the 450mm having 2.0-2.1 sigma. I think buffing the accuracy is a must when losing that many guns, the slightly larger alpha, pen and overmatching isnt near enough in many situations. It would be even more necessary if the 380s keep their 2.2 RPM and the 16" and 17.7" gets the normal 2 RPM. tbh I'm starting to like the idea of quintuple turrets, at least I hope WG is willing to test them and/or let ST play around with them. I think its one of the few chances we have at getting a BB like ship with smaller caliber guns at tier 10, if they dont do it here we will never see a 15" gun at tier 10 I think. I think one of the few other tier 10 BB contenders with small guns would be Battlecruiser Stalingrad, the upsized Moskva with 12" guns. Then again 12" guns would be even smaller without the ability to even overmatch cruisers aside from RN CLs. I'm all for as much variety as possible, and I think quints would be that variety. Then again I'm not a fan of too much gimmick either so the option to chose between quint, quad and triple turrets might be a must. Another way to make fewer, larger caliber guns viable is to increase the turret armor on the higher calibers. Something like the Quint 15" having same turret armor as Richelieu (430mm on faces), but the 16" having over 500mm on the faces (same as Iowa) and 17.7" having over 600mm on the faces, similar to that of Yamato.

Crazy yet plausible ideas on how to deal with the high tier BBs while pleasing all fans: Alsace: You get to chose between fitting three quad 15" guns or triple 16" guns Super Alsace: Here there could be three options. 1, Three triple 450mm guns. 2, three quad 406mm guns. 3, three quintuple 380mm guns.... A super Alsace needs even more super crazy ideas right? ... right? Well aside from the quintuple part, I really like this idea of being able to chose. It pleases those that want to experiment with different builds and those that wanted either 380s or 406s or even 450s all get their fill. I also think balancing going from a Quad to a Triple is much easier compared to going from triple to double turrets... as we have seen WG struggle balancing Mogami and Conqueror because of this. Losing 1/3 of guns is much more difficult to balance compared to only 1/4 due to the natures of this game. Right now with Conqueror WG had to go as far as to give the 457mms much better accuracy and some insane autobounce angles.

Roma - Tier VIII Premium Italian BB suggestion
Affeks replied to ImperialAdmiral's topic in Battleships
I really dont think we will see a Des Moines situation on tier 10... The Italian design philosophy is much closer to russians than USN. Even Frenchies are closer. Maybe we get something tanky that can go close, butI think well see flat arcs, high power but slow RoF guns on 10 -
I think the A1s 12" guns will be good both in terms of Alpha and Pen, at least if Dunkerque or French cruisers are any indication.

Zao torps are fine. 10 insanely fast torps with high damage is the death of any DD sitting too comfortably in smoke or BBs trying to turn around an island. Torps are so fast even KM Hydro will do nothing to warn the enemy in time to dodge and the large volley ensures you can spread them enough to ensure a hit.
-
I too pref the 406mm design. I really dont care about caliber progression, but we might have to prepare to have a 12" shotgun at tier 7. Then again at tier 8+ no BB can overmatch each other anymore and have to rely on either hitting the superstructure, guns or wait for a broadside anyways. So basically the 3x4 305mm design is kinda like a tier 7 Montana in that regard.

Hey Niyodo doesnt really need to have the 4x4 lateral torp setup tbh It could do 2x4 lateral torps like Aoba/Furutaka. I mean losing total torpedoes per broadside has been done before (Hipper 4x3 - Roon 2x4) and going from centerlined mounts to lateral mounts have their own advantage. I mean from what we know from Yubari, Agano, Agano kai and Niyodo will all have terrible torpedo arcs due to being centerlined on a large ship compared to DDs. So basically Niyodo-kai would trade total torps for better launching arcs. That combined with Concealment Mod would make her more than good enough for tier 8 at least. As for Suzuya, being a real ship she kinda has to be prioritized, but from a gameplay perspective she could make it at tier 9... but from a historical perspective she shouldnt be any higher than Brooklyn would be though. Alternatively she could be a premium considering how different it is from the rest of this line... I mean the options are there at least.

Currywurst/Gneisenau 0.6.8 IFHE secondary build finally worth it?
Affeks replied to Affeks's topic in Battleships
Okay got to GK and I must say the IFHE build worked better than I thought it would. I get regularly 30-40k secondary damage each game and the fact that it lest you put lots of pressure instantly on any bow in BB gives you the ability to kite much better and use main guns for picking off better targets. Just like Sander I usually target closing in BBs with secondaries and try to pick of cruisers with main guns. That way I can put a lot of pressure on the flank I'm pushing or keep many pushing enemies suppressed if need be. A very nice tool to have. People who say Secondary builds are bad on GK is wrong, especially now with the increased range plus higher reload on 128mms. -
You have a link to the thread? I wanna know why "Niyodo-kai/4x3 155mm Oyodo" didnt make it into your tree. The torps aside I think skipping from 9 guns all the way to 15 guns is a bit too much considering tier 8 also gets tier 8 module...

WG: "A warning? What is that? Asking a person to take back a statement? Having proper communication with CC, devs and players? Integrity, whats that? Can you eat it?!?!" I feel iChase went a little overboard, ut so did WG.
-
I already got AR, because who needs EM on KM BBs anyways, their turrets are essentially cruiser turrets anyways. I say build all the DE or IFHE you want.... or maybe get vigilance or other survivability skills to actually survive till' you get into brawling range... PFFT tricked ya BFT, DE and IFHE all day !!!
-
Didnt WG promise two french lines this year? I mean we got the Cruisers, but I think french DDs might happen before French BBs
-
Hmm, Doesnt a Ooyodo-kai fit tier 8 well? You know like a slightly larger Ooyodo and Niyodo but with two triple turrets aft for a total of 12 guns? I mean it would follow the gun count progression much smoother (6-8-9-12-15) and I always imagined that Suzuya could manage tier 9 pretty well. I mean Ibuki is basically 8" gun Mogami at tier 9, so a tier 9 Mogami with 6" guns at tier 9 should work just as well. Edit: what should be done with the lack of torps on Niyodo and/or Oyodo/Niyodo-kai?
