Time to discuss the freaky AG-128 and how to make it work
Affeks replied to Affeks's topic in Battleships
I heard somewhere that during Alpha BBs could control both Main and Secondary guns that way, ofc it was removed since its waaaay overpowered. Still though I would rahter have the 6" be the main battery instead of the 14". I stil think the switching like torpedoes could work just fine though. 1 = 14" HE 2 = 14" AP 3 = 6" HE, click again to switch to AP Yes I know it breaks some of the continuity in the game, but whats the worst thing that can happen since its a one of premium. One of the most gimmicky ones at that. -
Yeah I'm shafted by this, not home untill 22-23 most days so yeah.

Time to discuss the freaky AG-128 and how to make it work
Affeks replied to Affeks's topic in Battleships
This is the Wyoming in its training config, the USS Mississippi/AG 128 is a different ship completely. Wyoming never had the 5"/38 at the same time as its bigger 12" guns I remember I saw a very unclear image with the AG128 in its training config WITH the 14" turret, but Its so unclear I never saved the image. Ill try to find it later. The 14" guns is the same as the one on New Mexico. USS Mississippi is a New Mexico class Battleship afterall. Wyoming with the 10 x 5"38s will be much easier to balance since the main battery is uniform. It'll play like a very sluggish yet tankier atlanta. The plane killing potential is there, but a ship like Gneisenau still beats it in pure AA dps so depending on what tier it hits it might not be that big of a threat after all. Still being in full control over only the 14" turret alone is not enough... even at tier 5 so me thinks being in control of both the 14" and 6" turret might be a posibility, although we might have to wait longer to get our hands on it. -
Its basically a Battlecruiser version of Moskva, it wouldnt make sense to have her at tier 8 or lower for a number of reasons... Still though I really want to get my hands on Stalingrad.... [edited]I need to grind Clan battles now

I can say with confidence that I get a lot more pens with my Hood than I do with my Nagato. Rmember that for the AP fuse time to make a difference the AP shell has to arm. This differs from shell caliber to shell caliber, but all AP arms if it overmatches a piece of armor. Meaning most BBs cant get normal pens against DDs if they show full broadside, not because the shells cant detonate in time, but because the shell didnt arm to begin with. Yet you can get normal pens when the DD angles since the overmatching kicks in and arms the shell.

Yes I do, far more reliable than the 460s, well I guess it doesnt help that CQ is just an insanely much better ship as well... but still I'd take the 457s on Yamato if I could. Follow any sort early RN BB thread and you would see tons of guys agreeing about the "dealing with bow and decks much better" thing
-
Did you listen to anything I said? the auto bounce angles make the 457s much more reliable for dealing with bows as they can much more effectively deal with 38, 50 and 57mm plating as well as the 32mm threshold. For the 460s they only overmatch 32mm, but once they meet a 50mm deck armor they have a really difficult time dealing damage even if the enemy is just doing a slight angle. Tons of reasons actually. Yamato cant overmatch 38mm deck and plating on Iowa/Montana, 37mm on NC and 38mm on Alabama. The 60mm bow and 50mm deck on GK and many other german BBs are also not overmatched by Yamato. The 50mm on Moskva is immune. Even the deck armor of other Yamatos have 50/57mm armor. These are all stuff that both 457 AP AND HE deal far better with than Yamato's 460s... This is a direct soft stat for WG for some reason. I would need to dig in one of the old RN BB threads because SEA Group is down.. Ill do it later. Anyway initially the 419s also had the better autobounce angles, but that got removed as well as a nerf to the sigma, the 457s kept both the good sigma and autobounce angles. I never said that, but its still a fact that 457s have better pen. Its situational, good for dealing with cruisers and DDs, but not always good against other BBs

Currywurst/Gneisenau 0.6.8 IFHE secondary build finally worth it?
Affeks replied to Affeks's topic in Battleships
I dont play tier 10 much lately, but took GK out for a spin again and damn IFHE is still pulling its weight. Edit: I forgot to mention the 4 close quarters experts I got that game -
I do hope they remove the 419s on CQ, I mean we dont really need more 4x3 ships at tier 10 imo. This is one of the only chances WG will have at putting a 4x2 ship at tier 10, yet its completely dwarfed by the volume of the 419s... This is just simply wrong. People reported that the 457s are much more reliable than the Yamatos 460s because of a number of reasons. 1: the 457s have much better HE alpha and fire chance 2: the 457s have much better ricochet/auto bounce angles, meaning it can pen bows and decks on range even more reliably than 460s. 3: the 457s have better pen because of heavier shell, as well as better ap alpha 4: the 457s have better turret handling So yeah other than overmatching, turret layout and the IJN accuracy its not really any better

I think Stalingrad will be a tier 10. Its basically an upsized version of Moskva. Was a post war design and all with even better AA than Moskva. I mean it would have like 168dps at 5.7km and a designed top speed of 35.5 knots. Shell velocity is 950 m/s with a decently heavy shell so pen will be pretty insane. To top it off it will prolly have 18.4 second reload as well. http://navweaps.com/Weapons/WNRussian_12-62_m1948.php Way to strong for even tier 8 imo. Tbh I hope Stalingrad becomes the Russian tier 10 BB. You know we have all these large cruisers at tier 10, so why not have a few small battleships as well? Treated as a BB Stalingrad would only have ~60k hp which is less than Moskva and that doesnt make sense. So maybe they'll give Stalingrad cruiser treatment for the HP calculation, in that case it would have ~88k hp. That combined with somewhat weaker belt armor I think it could be balanced at tier 10. Khronstadt on the other hand was designed pre ww2 so it will prolly be a tier 7-8.
-
The reason why I listed Khronstadt is that it was planned on multiple(?) stages to have 12" guns http://navweaps.com/Weapons/WNRussian_12-55_B-50.php So depending on what WG decides it may not break the "no overmatch" thing
-
There are tons of other similar planned ships out there. B65, project 1047, Stalingrad, pr 69, many French battlecruiser preliminaries, etc etc All interesting in their own right. Still though Im on the side that would pref that many/most are made into tier 6-8 premiums.
-
I understand many of your concerns, however I remember discussing the lack of a tier 6 CL with someone and they pointed to a plan for a 3x3 design that wasnt built. So Id rather have that instead of a Heavy cruiser between tier 5 and 7. Also St. Louis is prime premium material with Brooklyn as the tech tree counterpart. On the topic of samey ships in the heavy cruiser line, I must say I dont mind too much. I mean the difference between Myoko and Ibuki is that Ibuki gets tier 8 and 9 modules. Other than that its closely the same ship from tier 7 to 9. They are much more similar than New Orleans and Baltimore and very much more than New orleans and Pensacola. The inclusion of rudder/stealth mod and reload/range can make a big difference in playstyle.
-
Brooklyn is way to overgunned for tier 6 and New Orleans should be pushed to tier 7. New Orleans has so many ahistorical buffs that it really shouldnt be there. Instead Baltimore should be pushed to 8 and Oregon City can be tier 9. There are plenty of reasons for this. Baltimore can be compared to Oregon in the same way Cleveland can be compared to Fargo. This is again similar to the differances between Mogami and Ibuki.
-
Yamato is the worst in my opinion... Its the only BB that you get punished for showing broadside in. All others have either very low citadel or thick turtleback/spaced armor. Tbh Yamato isnt weak, but damn the other BBs are way to strong. Especially CQ ofc I hope WG nerf them soon (except for Yamato)
-
Richelieu is a guarenteed tier 8. Bratagne and Normandie are either 4-5 or 5-6 depending on how WG translate the 340mm gun into the game or if they find another tier 3-4 canditade outside of Courbet.

Do you use "Adrenaline Rush" Captain skill on your BBs?
Affeks replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I always use AR for almost every ship. I prioritize it over Expert Marksman on most of my BBs, with exceptions like Warspite and Yamato -
I dont expect WG to give a rats a$$ about historical details like that... just as they have done with most russian paper/incomplete ships till now...
-
Sovetsky Soyouz is a perfect for tier 9 tho, a bit bigger than Iowa, but slower and worse AA. There is tons of data on this ship as its guns were built and ready and the ship itself was laid down and way into construction before the war started. Sovetsku Soyouz was originally planned to be as big as Yamato with either 4x3 16" guns or 3x3 18" guns. This version or pr 24 could fit into tier 10 as well. Also there is the Stalingrad class Battlecruiser which was laid down but not completed. Another high tier candidate. Saying russian BBs are are fake and just paper is going a bit too far tbh. Then again, russia having a prem BB way before Italy and France is pretty stupid as well...
-
I stopped playing t10 solely because meeting a CQ or Lion in anything except for a DD is literally no fun. Ill come back when they're at least somewhat balanced
-
Interesting, but I'm not sure I'm completely sold on them yet. I just cant find the torps or concealment making up for lack of firedensity and lack of smoke/other gimmick...
-
Yep played around with Katori with a divmate today. we came to the conclusion that we'd take Katori to a tier 4 match rather than Yubari any day... the lack of range, aircraft and that huge citadel really makes Yubari no fun to play... Katori on the other hand is actually reasonably fun.. Dont let the slow max speed fool ya, the guns shoot exactly where you aim, the torps have good range and firing angles, the catapult fighter provide a lot of free info and the low citadel will save you from any sort of one shotting. Actually one of my fav ships in a while.
-
Damn I'm really lacking in my WW1 knowledge. I guess I misinterpreted something somewhere sorry. Hmm I was sure I read somewhere that germans classified Scharnhorst as a battlecruiser somewhere.. maybe it was an uneducated post.. well anyway thanks for correcting. Huh I guess I missed some info along the way, but luckily I have you too explain how it really is... oh wait

Dude a little question, whats the odds that we see the Yubari/Katori/Iwaki dispersion mod on Agano and the rest of the IJN CLs? I mean it would be a way to compensate for the both terrible guns (low RoF and outdated designs) and the low number of guns.
