May I? What the OP refers to as the minimap is in fact called the "tactical map" and is used to maneuvre your carrier thru autopilot waypoints. The actual minimap is always displayed in the bottom right corner. Just writing it for future readers as the minimap is so important in this game.

Why are BBs hanging back and how to fix that?
Johnny_Moneto replied to 66Schwifty's topic in General Discussion
I suggested this (together with removal of caps and the timer) as a new game mode to MrConway and Crysantos. The reply was that it wouldn't work out. -
Very interesting comments by WG's "SubOctavian" regarding "Russian BIAS"...
Johnny_Moneto replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Since I am around for some years, I can recall instances where WG actually was right and the player base was not. The introduction of UK light cruisers comes to mind. Or the removal of stealth firing. Not saying WG is right on this one but a general WG bashing is also not in order. Also consider that the Russian bias spreads only to a few ships: Smolensk, Stalingrad and BBs. The other ships are actually fine and some would say that Khaba was even nerfed too much. -
Royal Navy is being discriminated against by WG

Naaah, it's all Churchill's fault and his line "sink the Bismarck". -
Royal Navy is being discriminated against by WG
Johnny_Moneto replied to pzkpfwv1d's topic in General Discussion
In the log of this message it says it was posted in 2019. Clearly this can't be right if German DDs were just recently released. And who is "we"? It cannot be the players because US ships were only given to the USN, not to "us". -
I took target practice in co-op, a lot. Sounds unsexy but helps. To be able to hit DDs reliably is such an important skill for a CV.

I think the current system is ok and fair. Personally I completely ignore the XP on any elite ships. It was clear to me from the beginning that elite ship XP are a carrot you have to pay for while you can have the carrot for free if you are patient. Pay to progress is the general business model of WG in this game.

Another tipp: The spawn points of DDs are usually mirrored unless there is a DD division somewhere. If I play CV I look at my own DDs to know where the enemy DDs start. Just in case you wonder how on earth did the CV know where you are right from the start.

Why WoWS creates toxic players and fix
Johnny_Moneto replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in General Discussion
It is just so disappointing that this is a nice game and could be a lot of fun but then in 4 out of 5 games there are so many ... speshul skilled players in the teams that a normal play is not happening. And with normal I mean that players use all available means to fight and win, like WASD hacks, armour angling, play for objectives without suiciding, play as a team and so on. The difference between potential fun and actual fun of this game is what gets me a bit down. -
Nothing to say against anything but.... if you are facing a Tirpitz in an Acasta you were the bottom end of a fail division.
-
I don't just wanna survive an initial skirmish. I also need HP to be able to fight the next DD, and the next. If we encounter each other in a DD dogfight, have the same boats and you already lost HP, I have a huge advantage in killing you. Afterwards I just take your cap. I am doing this consistently to any weak DD player.

Actually as soon as you are in smoke you switch on AA. Nowadays the CV cannot trace your position from AA fire anymore. If you use your main guns, however, you give away your location.
-
At the start the CV will fly a scouting route to find isolated DDs. Make sure you are not that guy. Even if it means you have to wait for the other ships. Playing with CVs in the battle means staying together. Every time you stray away from your fleet you must understand that you might be picked up by the enemy CV. Plan those excursions wisely: Is the gain worth the risk? If you see the CV being busy somewhere completely else (maybe he found one of your DD colleagues) then move forward, use that window of opportunity. When it is unavoidable being spotted by a CV, assess your situation (way before he spots you): Do you have smoke? Where can you turn to? Where is your nearest friendly ship to help with AA? Which other enemy ships might fire on you once you are spotted (you might have to dodge rockets as well as shells)? I see many DDs waiting way too long to use their smoke to hide. While you are in the smoke the CV either wastes time waiting for you (in that time turn your ship around to the nearest friend) or looks for something else to do - but he might remember having found you and might come back, so go close to friendly AA fire support. Learn how to dodge! Never show broadside to the rocket planes, that will leave a huge mark on your HP bar. Ideally you would sail into the planes with AA turned off, thus giving the CV the smalles reaction time to arm his rockets and fly the attack. Switch off your AA when the planes are outside of your air detection range. The later the CV sees you the harder it is for him to hit you. You can also do a little wiggle once the animation of the planes start, where 2 detach from the squad to initiate the attack. Move hard left for a bit, then hard right again. You will not dodge every rocket all the time. It is rather about minimizing damage taken, making yourself an extremely unpleasant target to hit. If a CV is keen on sinking you, change your gameplan and play a minigame with him: Staying alive as long as possible means he won't be doing anything else during that time. Your team might thank you for it. Always see the CVs as a challenge. And last but not least: Very good CV players will find and kill you. That's the nature of the game currently. But if you observe above points it will not happen often.

what is happening to this game lately?

What happens if you enter the battle? -
There are a lot of instances where somebody feels better if he can shout out his frustrastion to the forum. Like in this thread. In order not to spam the "Gameplay" section with such stuff, there is a thread in the Off Topic area. It is rather frequently used I might add.
-
Write to the "frustration therapy" thread... oh wait.... that is only in the German forum
-
Good news everybody. I found the player who balances the Smolensk on the spreadsheet for us. Look: Ok ok, only 49 balances so far but he is working on it.
-
My div mate got a spotting ribbon some three minutes after he was sunk, so... seems to be a bug.

Subjected to constant team-kill damage during a game by an idiot - who do I send the replay to for action?
Johnny_Moneto replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
And do you have a an Atlanta? Did you play any co-op battles with it lately? Just aksing.... :-) -
Have new T9 super cruisers put the old ones out to pasture?
Johnny_Moneto replied to Thracen's topic in General Discussion
I think you have 2 choices: Either skip playing that ship or accommodate your playstyle to fit the ship. Roon is not an Alska, thank God. You have to play her differently. If you need a cruiser for tanking and pushing, play another ship than the Roon. This is not a discussion anymore, you are just repeating yourself while denying any different opinion to be valid. So take the consequence. -
[ALL][TOOL][EN] Just A Tool - Multitool
Johnny_Moneto replied to real_sytax's topic in Other Mods and Programs
Hi there. Your tool sometimes just quits by itself. No message, no user action. It just disappears. This seems to happen during a match when I have the match monitor running. Windows10.
