Rewards for Premium ships are not scaling properly
Shagulon replied to BdW_Marecc's topic in General Discussion
I refuse to help someone who doesn't want to listen to honest advice on how I got around the initial losses I took in the game. Continue making losses and blaming everyone but your own stubbornness to adapt. -
Rewards for Premium ships are not scaling properly
Shagulon replied to BdW_Marecc's topic in General Discussion
I bought the three ship package just to get into the CBT after watching all the vids on youtube. Must say I'm glad I did as I have had so much fun even in beta. I played my first games in these ships (Sims Yaburi and Grem(something)), which are all very very good ships. However, I got totally pwned in those first games. This is when I realised that I actually had to build up to these ships slowly, and spend my time learning the game in lower level ships vs lower level players. Actually I played in the vs bots games for a good few days following my harsh introduction. My advice, play in the normal ships until you get to those tiers naturally WITHIN EACH SPECIFIC TECH LINE for that ship. Otherwise, sorry but you will lose a lot. -
Maybe the answer is to actually nerf some of the ships rate of fire. Some of the DDs rate of fire on the US side is just plain ridiculus and like you so, tones down the need to have much skill. You just spam fire.

I thought this the other day after sinking, I watched the BBs duke it out. I zoomed into one and watched it fire its guns, it was quite disappointing. No feeling of raw power. The smaller caliber guns are worse still, and sound a bit like rifles.

In a US DD? Yes just stay at around 7 or 8 km distance and pepper it with HE. This brings its health down and stops it servicing its aircraft.
-
I know what you mean. Shots don't seem to hit when ships trapped on the edge. It is weird and I don't know the cause.

Not in favour of any reload speed buffs to anything under 45 seconds. I remember my Umikaze at Tier II, had a reload rate of something like 14 seconds (I think) and it was way too easy to fire off meaningless torps through islands just on the off chance. Everything should be skill/judgement based.

The extinction of IJN DDs. The why's and what follow's
Shagulon replied to Stugga's topic in Archive
They are good at Tier VIII again, and I think they are OK at tier 2 and 3. They lose their way in the mid-tiers. I change my playstyle completely with them, and stick near the main fleet. That way you tend not to run into US DDs and die so easily. This does not please your team mates who expect you to be running in a capping stuff. I can scout, but not more than 5 or 5 km ahead of a cruiser. Try it see if it works for you... By the way I totally agree. The US main gun is insane (it even badly hurts BBs 1 v 1 if you can dodge long enough) and the IJN main gun is really just a joke. The need bring closer together while keeping their roles as they are. Some I DDs mid tier have a 25 second turn speed, other have 45. The 45 ones are nuts.... It is like turning battleship guns and look stupid. -
Its different and chaotic - go with it guys

Suggestion: ship upgrades and captain skills show effect in UI
Shagulon posted a topic in General Discussion
I think then when I buy an upgrade to my main weapon turn speed, or rudder speed etc, it should be updated in the module information screen. I have a few ships and it is a bit annoying to have to go through all the upgrades and skills and do the maths as to when my concealment is or my turret traverse speed. Should be easy to implement and a quick win right? -
Suggestion: ship upgrades and captain skills show effect in UI
Shagulon replied to Shagulon's topic in General Discussion
Ah, I thought it was a simple idea and surprised they hadn't done it. Sorry I only joined a week or so ago -
I think they sorted DBs really nicely. The fire effect is great and they do some decent damage. They are also avoidable ( don't let them approach from bow or stern). Good work there WG

Apart from magazine detonation, BBs do not one shot CAs unless they are around 8km away. If you're in a CA and you come within the max range of your guns of a BB who has her guns pointed in your direction, you haven't made a small mistake, you made a huge one. If you can no longer dodge salvos (too close) you're fooked. I'm fine with it. BBs counter CAs. I guess you'd also argue that CAs shouldn't one shot DDs by the same rationale?

Do you find it irritating when a match just instantly ends when a team caps?
Shagulon replied to Remi_Drexel's topic in General Discussion
Good lord no. Then we just have the BBs meandering off down the side of the map for hours on end... The cap points are there to keep people focused and have some kind of goal that doesn't involve going off and having pointless duels at the side of the map. -
I get hit in my BBs by torps every game, but generally only from TBs, I never (well unless really distracted) get hit by a DD torp in a US BB. Don't often get hit by TBs in a US BB...

The Atlanta seems best just due to the sheer number of guns and its rate of fire. It is like a larger deadlier Sims and quickly finishes off DDs and IJN Cruisers a bit too easily. If you avoid bigger US cruisers 1v1 and BBs you will have a great game. Sims to me is the second best, again it is a monster in its small mini-game of DD vs DD, but it also really puts out the DPM if it engages bigger ships and is not the primary target.

I must admit that I'm having problems with IJN DD tier VII. Very tough to get anywhere with it. Not played higher tiers so I guess maybe they are OP there, but would seem strange.
-
Stats can be deceptive. IJN main gun buff seem mostly a DPM calc based on the new HE rounds. I think the main issue is the rotate speed. Like you I like the difference between the two navy philosophy (gun boat vs torp sniper), but torpedo sniping is now extremely hard now that everyone is learning to avoid them better (and helped by quick turn speeds and increased torpedo spotting distances). I don't know what the answer is, but IJN DDs are a little useless above tier 5 or 6.
-
The armour buff is fine, as is critical shots from BBs one shotting CAs. CAs are not supposed to toe to toe BBs, BBs are supposed to to toe to BBs with CA support. CAs are supposed to shield BBs from DDs and aircraft, and provide extras DPM and distraction in BB fights. DDs are supposed to counter BB and CV. However, the rock paper scissor is all fooked up. BBs counter aircraft fairly well at higher tiers. They also turn quickly enough to be fairly safe from DDs if they plan well enough ahead and don't make tactical errors.... So everyone just uses BBs. I hope 3.1.1 has some balance changes included. A minor change here and there is all that is needed. Small debuff to turning circles and something for the HE round issue. I also think the US DD main gun fires slightly too fast and could do with an extra half km range for their torpedos, and I think it will get better.
-
I see mainly BBs yea. Still plenty of balanced games, but every 3rd or 4th is very BB heavy. People aren't stupid, they play to win and right now its easier with BBs. I've stopped playing IJN DDs as they're kind of unplayable. DDs you see now are US or premium mainly. There are either a few balance issues with 0.3.1 or we just haven't adapted to play the new patch well enough yet.
-
People don't really understand how to look at the stats of their ship and work out how to best use it, so they say its crap... It is OK, let them. If anything I think all the tight turning BBs are a bit too good. When you get a couple of them driving through your line there is very little you can do to counter them.
-
yes agreed, but CVs are generally used to all other mapsbeing the last ones alive, and often surviving even when the rest of your team are dead... Its ok to die fairly quickly sometimes. Like I said, the double pincer is the same for both teams. I like hot spot as it is very quick and intense. Everyone literally has to just go for it from the start. Adapt, survive, win
-
Wow chill dude... OP I truly apologise for coming in with that drivel, obviously I have had comprehended the question more fully I wouldn't have been so obnoxious as to draw the type of comment quoted.
-
I love the way people are bad at a particular map so they just hate it and think it is stupid. A better outlook for games and life in general, is to think about how to approach it differently. What goes wrong on the map, and how can I improve? It is the same for both teams, why does one have the advantage to pincer the other. Get your team organized??? I love it as a map as it is totally intense and plays very different from the others. I just wish those two BBs left alive at the end of the game would get more involved (you know there's always a couple who lurk at the edge like they're playing one of the other maps).

good idea
