Bad poll, I have retrained captains quite a few times. I suspect it is one of WGs biggest earners. Once you get high rank captains and you want to change ships, there is no other choice. However, I think I read there is a cap coming so you the max XP required to retrains a captain is 50-100K (not sure the criteria for how much XP exactly). Once this comes in, it will be a much closer decision whether to re-train with money or time.

Yes, not thought this thread through very well. No feedback can be given on any premium ship changes. I too would like to try my hand at the warspite. I think if you own a premium ship on the live server you should be able to use it on the test server too

I think I would be happy with small AA buff, nothing major. Also they could make her torp firing arc a little more usable. Other than that she is v competitive. Inspired me to play a game in her this morning, got a Kraken...
-
She's not crap but below average for two reasons. Her main strength was nerfed indirectly and there are not a lot of CVs playing anyway. Agreed you can still come top in her quite regularly, but you can come top in virtually any ship. If you want to get a low tier CA get a Murmansk. That is a very strong premium low tier CA. If you want to play a ship with a fairly unique feel, go for the Yubari, but don't expect her to be a great credit earner.

It is good, but it used to have amazing AA. It was nerfed along with all ships that had the 20MM bofors or some other specific AA gun, can't remember now. That gun made up its main AA armament... Now post your other tier 4 cruiser stats. A quick look at any stat site will show it is underwhelming still. I don't think people want it to be better in a fight with other T4 CAs but many people want its AA buffed back to what it used to be.

Back in the CBT, I remember that CVs were the most feared ship in the game. I kind of hated them, when their focus came upon your BB and you were away from any cruisers, you were gonna have a bad time of it. Now that they've been nerfed so hard, I don't think they anyone fears them quite so much. While nobody wants to see CVs with the strength of the old Midway back (they was crazy OP), I have to admit that I miss having a strong CV presence in my games. The game lost a layer of tactical depth now they have disappear. In addition, I think that it had led to the stagnation of gameplay, especially in higher tiers. BBs sat stationary, bow on... It wouldn't happen with a strong CV to punish that kind of play. It also means that US CAs kind of lost their purpose, and it is generally just better to have a IJN or RU CA, as AA is a bit worthless. The meta-game of upgrades and captain skills is also kind of one dimensional now too, and I believe it is pretty much all down to the balance being broken by removing CV players. So I made a quick poll to try and work out forum opinion on the matter. Feel free to post your thoughts on game balance. P.S. I'm no CV player, my stats in them will prove that... EDIT: altered poll slightly for those who prefer to maintain things as they are or even nerf CVs. I'm not going to split the poll down between US and IJN - it is just a quick poll with rough answers for general gameplay).

why have a bastion then, just have the observation posts...
-
The problem with Bastion after you have played it a few times is you realise that the bastion guns barley do any damage whatsoever so make little difference whether you knock them out or not. I've seen a DD park 3km away from the guns and shoot them out and barely take any damage while capping.

I have a wedding I have to travel for so I'm away Friday to Monday that weekend. Absolutely typical.

I was in a random match with the OP Andreas the other day. He was in his Fuso. He had two kills but was lolling around trying to snipe people and not really supporting the team in the end game when it matters most. I suspect he may get reported himself a lot more than he thinks.

I must admit I don't really like playing CVs, I miss them more from that they bring to the game. It is more boring without them.

The tier problem CVs face would be easiest for WG to solve. Just change the MM so CVs only face one tier above and below instead of two. BOOM problem solved. Those arguing against the delete BB button... It was like that before with the Midway and every match you saw one, it altered the way the teams played. They began to group together and share AA. People adapt, and this is how it should be. AmazingBeaver gives the example of angling armour and stopping, stopping and reversing. These are things that have happened in the game since the CVs were nerfed and disappeared. You should not be stopping and reversing full stop, unless you are fully supported with lots of AA around you. I don't know, but I really think WG needs to act as losing 1 of only 4 classes of ship from the game is very bad for depth. How can WG balance things without CVs? I truly belive this is why some ships seem OP. Those ships tend to have crappy AA, but this makes little difference in today's meta-game.

I lost 10 straight games in my Shima yesterday. The unifying factor in those games was me, but I have to say that I was doing over 100K damage in almost every match and coming in the top two on my team in each one. Some days it is going to happen. My problem is, I tend to keep playing with that ship until I win one. Maybe I should stop that... It's not a conspiracy by WG to sabotage your stats, the amount of logic that would go into that is huge. WG can barely write an MM that spreads out ship types.

Hmm, interesting results so far, seems like a 50/50 split who don't want the CV to have that central role in the game. I wonder how many of those were players from the CBT who remember scary CVs, or are BB drivers who like an easier life? So far it seems WG have done the right thing in nerfing them into a support role.
-
They can be either really positive or negative to your game and that probably changes how your perceive them. They have just been introduced so I have the nagging feeling we don't know how to play them properly yet. I'm sure in a month or two we will all know exactly what to do when a cyclone hits and the CQB that follows will be quite exciting.

Along with Wakatake, she has the best stats of all the tier 3 DDs. She must be OK. I had originally said she was a dead duckling but, she's OK once you learn how to use her. She is difficulot though.

Is this just symptomatic of the game in general. At higher tiers the game loses its enjoyable identity from mid-tier. The roles of each ship class become blurred. BBs no longer need CA AA support because they have God like AA themselves. CAs have really great firepower and can lay down the hurt just as well as BBs can. US DDs get better torps than IJN DDs, and the Shimas guns are not to be sniffed at. Add to this the economy of high tiers which ruins games as everyone cowers at the back afraid to take damage. Those that don't and move forward find nobody follows and they die. In this ranked season, the meta-game is impoverished. Its just gunboat DDs and BBs in 90% of matches. Why? They are the most effective ships by far. I think WG has some serious re-balancing to do. Its perfect mid-tier (except CVs still have a hard time).

I am actually a fan o this game mode, it tends to make for quite frantic games and means you can put pressure on opponents to come and fight. However, at TX for whatever reason this is just not working. The games are not going beyond ten minutes maximum before its over. Often times 75% of the losing team are still alive and it is as though the game never really got going before it is over. I'm pretty sure that average damage per ship at upper tiers must be going down because of this. I wonder perhaps the amount of points required to win could start lower at lower tiers, and increase by 100 points per tier level? Just to prolong the matches a little? I'm not sure what the answer is, but domination at upper tiers is not satisfying. That said, standard match is also really bad as people just camp 20km apart and snipe each other.

Weekends - Do teams "feel" worse or are they exactly the same as mid-week for you?
Shagulon replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
This is basic psychology. When you win, you're a great player, getting better, things are good. When you lose, you got a bad team, it wasn't your fault. It must be kiddies or weekend warriors. Denial and confirmation bias rolled into one. -
strange how things change. CVs never bothered with DDs back in beta, now they seek them out first. DDs should adapt and stay closer to support, not come on the forums begging for nerfs.
-
bought her today and played 10 or 15 matches. I'd heard bad things about this ship and the stats don't look good, but she was so cheap I just though go for it. Most underrated ship I've played so far.

Bastion the forts don't shoot at you beyond the cap zone really. It is just designed to stop everything depending on DDs I think. DDs get shown up by the radar and shot at by the forts until they are blown up. The amount of damage is a bit like secondary fire, not much but it will slow down/stop capping. It is a good design but I'm not sure it will help TX gameplay much. I really think something needs to be done to make the game better at top tier. Right now its a bit boring. Credits, meh I'm not bothered about them. If I lose credits its never that much.

DDs STILL too dominant in ranked. Stop it.
Shagulon replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
Here is an idea that might just work.... If you want to limit DDs in ranked, limit BBs to 1! Think about it a second. I don't play CA in ranked overly much because the BBs make pretty short work of you. Nothing to do with being the highest scoring loser - who the [edited]plays ranked to be the lowest scoring loser? If you do you got it all worng, play to win ffs. So with 1 BB, I think CAs would return and DDs would be in much more danger. Things would naturally level out. It would also limit the power of the CV which at the moment mostly decides the game if one is dominant over the other. -
If you're in a DD and within a BB secondary range you're an idiot. Which makes me wonder about some of the posters in this thread...
-
I think with a full secondary build it should be effective as a full AA build on ships with good secondaries to start with (e.g. yamato). A full AA build on a US BB rips planes apart, why can't a full secondary build?
