Swedish Navy ship. HMS Gotland (1933)

I do agree with Preston, but a the same time it suited the swedish "Kustflottan" quite good. I think the main problem was the compromise due to economics and the limitations of the small spotting aircrafts. If Gotland was built according to plan with 2x3 15,2cm guns in turrets it would have been a descent light cruiser for the limted ocean of the Baltic. She was to small to upgrade for heavier aircraft. She was a good idea a the time, but the technology ran away from her in just a few years

The different proposals for the 4th armored ship 1921-1943. The plans where changed in 1942 from a "a coastal fleet with ships" (en utsjö flotta med skepp") to a light coastal fleet (en lätt utsjö flotta). The plan was originally written by capt. Stig H:son Ericson in 1938 C-in-.C of navy official investigation for the future fleet but was kept as a secret memorial. The plan ened up in the cruiser flottilas from 1947-1964.
