I killed a Montana yesterday with 1 air dropped torpedo. He was full hp too.

OMG - WTF have they just done to CV..unbelievable
Aerroon replied to xBamBamx's topic in General Discussion
When I play my Iowa I notice that I'm being attacked by planes when I shoot one down. Before that I completely forget about them. Yet torpedo bombers still rarely hit me because that's still ample warning for me to turn and shoot down a whole bunch of planes. -
Carriers are fine vs noobs. They were fine and are still fine. They are bad vs good players and were bad. Many good players recognize this, but a select few deny it - their performance in game is good, so carriers must be OP. However, judging carrier play vs the average noob seems like a poor way to balance the game, because it will just remove any potential skill from the usage of that ship class. So yes, my stats are fine with carriers post patch, but I still can't do much vs good players that actually pay attention. Haven't seen anybody else be able to deal with that well either - even Papedipupi seemed to be unable to hit some people where an Iowa just slipped through the torps etc.
-
I don't want it because it will involve always just waiting for people. Half the game will be about dealing with the crap of other people. I don't want that. I don't want to have to go buy a mic just so I can play a game. I don't want to have to download x amount of applications so I can play it because the group doesn't take people who don't join them on TS etc. This is what bothers me about it.

I don't like teamwork based games. At least ones where organized squads have an advantage so large you can't touch them. If the enemy CV has a division with a pocket CA and I'm in a CV vs them then there's nothing I can do. I just lost, because I don't have a pocket CA of my own. And this is already happening. What kind of advantages do you want for them? Because I'd like to play this game too.

You could make the torpedo wall before too, though, because you could just put two torpedo bombers side by side. What makes it easier to hit DDs and CAs is that the increased width means you're less likely to miss a CA or DD completely. They can still dodge as usual. -
Doesn't happen to my Yamato from HE, although dive bombers are kinda annoying. I don't know how to nerf dive bombers without making them useless though. Dive bombers are what ruin CV vs CV as well, not torpedo bombers, because dive bombers are generally fire and forget with no way to dodge it other than RNG. Dive bombers can also ruin a destroyer's day with no way to avoid it, just RNG. On the other hand, dive bombers are one of the only ways where a CV player can actually utilize strategy by hitting targets at certain times to maximize fire damage. Can't really do that in any other way.

Yes, but only on my BBs, CAs and DDs.

I'm not sure you can. I watched his stream for the entire day. He always queued up with 1-2 people who would usually protect him at the start from enemy CVs (that's literally what happened when I played Taihou vs his Taihou - they killed 2 of my squadrons while my team left me to fend for myself, the 2 people were his division mates). I doubt this is the usual way of playing for him. I have 26 games played and I have less damage than on my Shoukaku on average. PS about the team helping: I've noticed a trend in CVs queueing up with CAs who just hug the CV at the start and protect him. Very hard to do anything about it as the opposing CV if you don't have a pocket CA of your own. PPS I wish it was "average damage per minute" or something like that, not average damage per game. A game that ends quickly will give you terrible average damage stats.
-
It's interesting how even with 1 TB more the average stats aren't that much better than Shoukaku though.
-
What's the point in playing a battleship?
Aerroon replied to Swen_rudobrody's topic in General Discussion
Have you actually queued as a BB? Half the matches I still get huge numbers of BBs. Not to mention queue also shows multiple times more BBs quite often. -
Only IJN CV I've played post-patch is Taihou. Stats are okay (just check them out in my profile), could be better. I find that it's easier to torp cruisers and destroyers now. I find the Hotspot map to be a way bigger issue than any of this torpedo spread stuff though.

Changes just take the skill out of CVs. Obviously BBs support this change so there's really no point in discussing it. -
That still seems like a bad deal all around - takes the skill out of playing carriers completely.

One important thing that didnt get into tomorrow patch notes

And since the people who will get Taihou are really good at CVs they will still probably make it work and it'll be considered "fine". -

Wait, they will also get the tier 10 carrier? -
I have yet to see a player this skilled. Most CV captains I come across can't hit me at all or land 1 torpedo on me if I evade. If more than 2-3 hit it has almost always been my [edited]up. (When it wasn't it was stuff like an ally ramming me right before the planes came or similar.)

Main thing to learn with BBs is to aim well. Remember that you want to only hit targets that are perpendicular to you with AP. You know those lines when you are zoomed in? Those lines are at the same level as the indicator of where the shot goes so you can use that to hit the right distance. Other than that what you need to know is to learn to take things slower. There is no need to rush in and be first as a BB as that will often get you killed. Also, learn to angle yourself to enemy ships - try to never show them your broadside, that way most of their shots will bounce off of your armor. Against aircraft learn to spot them early and keep them in sight. If they are going for you then point your bow or aft at them and keep it that way. If they go in for a drop you often want to turn into the planes, that way it makes repositioning harder for them.
-
The thing is that you're still at best equal to the enemy carrier. Shooting down lots of planes doesn't make the enemy team's ships any easier to deal with and since you have no real way of impacting those ships you are limited to only taking out their carrier. Other ship classes can fight all the other ships fine. Even the bomber layout can fight all ship classes - just the fighter layout on a carrier can't really. Nevermind, that test is very good to know. Interesting, I wondered this myself, because I have the habit of making my carrier sometimes go in a circle so it's easier to react when the enemy carrier is going for me. I wondered whether it would be bad for landing but everyone told me it would be fine. Thank you.

1. Is there any way to assign hotkeys to the grouped airplane unit (a la RTS games)? Not that I know of.2. When faced with another aircraft carrier on the enemy team, is it always a good idea to try taking it out at the beginning of the game? Or is it better to focus on taking out the nearest battleship to be more efficient? If they don't attack you it's always better to focus on battleships - taking out a carrier can cost a huge amount of time, however, it's the safest option and recommended to do.3. What strike package is the most optimal to use, especially on high tier Japanese strike setup? Is it better to split the group into 3 x 2 planes, or 2 x 3 planes, or 1 x 6 planes? I don't understand the question?4. How to ensure the most efficient queue of the planes? Does stopping the ship helps speeding this up? I don't think stopping the ship helps, however, if you're turning then I do think that sometimes it takes longer for planes to land/take off. Well, it doesn't take them longer once they've started the landing process but to start that it'll take them longer as they might have to reposition.5. Is there any noticeable benefit in aiming the dive bombers manually? Yes, if you can hit you can score more hits on target, however, it is very difficult to do and the enemy ship has to not be evading.6. How does the AA mechanic works in this game, assuming no manual focus from the AA? do 3 squads entering the AA range at the same time get suppressed individually less that 1 squad at a time? There is no suppression happening as far as I know if you're just being hit by AA. I don't think there is any difference in killspeed though.7. How to deal with ships that are hugging the map edge? (since it's difficult to manually drop the torps there?) Let other ships deal with it. Alternatively you can drop from the outside in, but that is also very difficult to do. You fly your plane to the map edge and then you can drop from there, but it's difficult to set up a good drop that way.8. Is there any benefit of playing the fighter over the strike setup on both nations? (I can only see it as negating an enemy carrier at best?) Only reason to do this is when you are in a division with some kickass players that require you to keep the skies clear vs some very good CV player.9. What is considered "average" and "good" results in terms of damages and kills on a CV? (say, a Shoukaku) and how does this compare to an "average" and "good" player in a BB or CA in comparable tier? Personal or global statistics would be welcome. I would say that an average CV will deal more damage per game than an average BB or CA because they tend to survive longer and can pick the best targets for them. They don't have the downtime where a battle ends on your part of the map and then you sail for 5 minutes in a BB to the next target. My average damage with Shoukaku per game is 145k. If I deal above that I consider it a good game. My average damage with Essex is 122k. If I deal above that I consider it a good game.
-
Now did you account for the fact that the target has -5% and -7% chance of fire? It would be interesting to see how that worked.
-
Yeah, but I just had this game that we won by capping in 5 minutes and 26 seconds. This was 5 minutes of just sailing and 0 combat for me. Now I have to do that again in a new game to see combat. End result:
-
Well, of course you don't dislike domination mode since you don't actually play the game. Domination is cancer and it saddens me they ruined the best map in the game with that. And then you get hit by half the enemy team because they're all just sitting back waiting for somebody to appear that they all hit at once. They are also in the exact same situation - they know if they go a bit closer all enemy guns will be on them.
-
I agree, nerf DDs. I won't be satisfied until my BB auto locks on with guns onto all DDs and kills them in one volley. The moment they enter the firing range of my Yamato (30km) all DDs should immediately die and be awarded as kills to me for my outstanding skill of sailing.

You could even have waited while staying directly above the Aoba and there would be nothing he could do.
