Q&A Session with MrConway about 0.5.5 content on 23rd of April around 17:00 CEST

Maybe they meant while in artillery view, because if your turrets don't move fast enough and your ship goes up and down all the time then your camera naturally goes too. -

Questions are done. I picked these: My questions:1. Will we ever get full access to replays without opening it with the game client? Like a tool giving us access to the data inside the replay files without having to reverse engineer the format etc? Right now after a match is over the only thing easily readable is the team lists that are as a JSON string at the start of the file - any chance we'll at some point be able to access the rest of the information in the match too like chat and shots fired etc?2. Have you guys considered of doing away with Scaleform to try to use a more performant solution to the UI?3. Have you guys thought of lowering dispersion across the board to lower RNG and increase skillful play? Others:1. Andrew Wong from Youtube:: Will some maps be created for a special weather theme e.g. a winter map with a continuous snowstorm?2. antibioxide from Youtube and OVanBruce from the forums:: What do you think of the US CVs low winrate? Are you considering a rework of the USN CV line in order to make it less RNG dependent thanks to the dive bombers?3. TheAllaksion from Youtube:: Will weather make the ocean waves crest and dip making ships pitch and roll making aiming more of a challenge? ships less detectable? will weather affect wind and trajectory of shells?4. 159Hunter from the forums:: Weather is only visual for now. Any plans to make weather affect ship stability (for shelling) and possibly affect torpedo trajectories?5. Hups050 from Youtube:: Will there be any changes to deepen the situations in plane to plane combat? At the moment, there is a complete lack of altitude difference. For example, the torpedo bombers had to be much closer to the water right before unloading. The planes at high altitudes had vision problems thanks to the clouds and the relatively diminished size of their targets, but they were safer from6. Martin Dijkman Dulkes from Youtube:: Why did the shimakaze get 8km torps with higher speed; wasnt it OP enough?7. Sonic_157 from the forums:: Will detonations get a special animation (e.g. huge explosion visible to entire map)?8. Raskeria from the forums:: Why do we keep being put in those battles where each team has one cap point? Resulting in lemming trains which are boring. 9. Allied_Winter from the forums:: Citadel/Heavy damage noise: Will there be (at least) an option to turn off that evil high pitched, tinnitus inducing noise? Maybe give us a optical message (blinking citadel symbol, similar to when engine or rudder is broken)?10. kfa from the forums:: I heard that boosting the secondary and AA guns health was also considered in 0.5.5. Does it come in a later patch? Any news on buffing the secondary gun captain skill?11. Ishiro32 and Aotearas from the forums:: Any news on collaboration with other media like Kantai Collection stuff or Haifuri? (Sorry, I had to ask)12. Aotearas from the forums:: Swiss Navy when? Sorry for anyone whose question(s) I did not pick. The reason is that the majority of questions were not about the latest patch, which you can also see from the picked questions. There was a limit to how many I could pick and I decided to go with these so that there is the illusion like we (the players) care about the questions about this patch! -

I know these aren't for me but I really want to answer them. Every time someone asks about the ETA to the German BB line it gets delayed by one day. Whose? MrConway's? The production team's? That would be amazing. Every time someone asks about the ETA to the French Navy it gets delayed by one day. *sigh* Every time someone asks about the ETA to the Italian Navy it gets delayed by one day. *sigh* *sigh* Every time someone asks about the ETA to the Swiss Navy it gets delay- Wait a minute. I think I'm being trolled. Whose? MrConway's? The production team's? -

So this is how you do it. This is going to be a GENERAL explanation and will be applicable for 30 FPS for most people. Download OBS Studio (formerly known as OBS-MP) from here: https://obsproject.com/download#mp (you can pick with browser source or without, it won't matter to you). Install it and run it. I recommend running it As Administrator that way the keybinds are more likely to work. This is the basic view of the application: The #1 part (in red) is your Scenes - these are your "screens" that will hold information that will be shown. I usually have a scene for different games I do and one for GameCapture just in case. The #2 part (in green) is your sources in that one specific scene you have selected. This contains the things that will be visible (or audible) in your scene. Eg the game window, twitch alerts, other pop ups etc. It's like layers in photoshop or similar. The #3 part (in blue) is audio mixer - if you're having sound issues make sure that one actually has something in there. Now setting up OBS Studio for video recording. First of all the "Video" tab: Set it to your in game resolution (1920x1080 in my case) and set it to 30 FPS. If you want to do higher than 30 FPS that's fine but you should also realize that there are limitations you'll run into. My machine couldn't do 60 FPS with this setup all that well, I had to switch some settings later. I might show those at another time when I make a guide video but not at the moment. Now switch over to the "Audio" tab: Essentially just make sure the Desktop Audio Device is your default audio device (eg speakers or headphones or whatever you use). There's ways to have really complicated audio setups and there can be setups like mine so I can listen to music while recording without it showing up on the recording or the stream. But again, that is for another time. Now go to the Output->Recording tab. This is the most important one where you set the important settings. 1. Under "Output Mode" change it from "Simple" to "Advanced". 2. Select your folder in "Recording Path" 3. Select Recording Format to be "mp4" (you can also use other stuff but make sure your video editing program later can read that format otherwise you'll have to convert). 4. Set Bitrate to 1000, tick Use Custom Buffer Size and set it to 0. 5. (Red #1): Set CRF=18 or some other number. Lower CRF means better quality but A LOT higher CPU usage. 17 to 18 is what I usually use. 0 would be essentially RAW, but the issue is that you can barely tell the difference between 0 and CRF=15 so 17-18 is fine, especially if you put the end result through more encoding and it ends up on youtube at the end. 6. (Red #2): Set CPU Usage Preset to something you're comfortable with. Often people use veryfast or just fast. The slower your preset the higher your CPU usage but the lower your HDD usage on the video file. Ultrafast is the lowest CPU usage and highest HDD usage (disk space). Because I have the latter I just used ultrafast so it will have the smallest impact on game performance. The red #1 and red #2 are the main things you can tune performance and picture quality with. CPU Usage preset does not affect picture quality but simply size of the video file and cpu usage. Now you should be all set. Try it in your game. Note however that if you're on a weaker CPU and/or slower HDD it still won't do all that well. NVenc support is supposed to come in OBS Studio 0.15 or already there if you use Windows 10. You can use NVenc to essentially do the encoding on the Nvidia GPU just like Shadowplay (same system). If you're on an Intel CPU you can use QuickSync but I would only recommend it on the newer Intel CPUs with the more later versions of QuickSync. That is what I use for 60 FPS recordings. By the way, I recommend setting a hotkey for start and stop recording too.

Here's a new contender for the "best Montana salvo you've seen": And yes, that is 92133 HP gone on a Yamato in one salvo (that was how much HP he had). This will be in an upcoming video too. I agree though, the Montana could be better. The main issue is that you go up against Yamatos so often and they are simply superior against you.

We entered the stage in the following order (o believe this is also our seating order): Strangers123 (CV), Jingles (Kutuzov), Aerroon (Tirpitz), Crysantos (Atago), Izoz (Benson), Pointyhairedjedi (Tirpitz), iEarlGrey (Benson). -

I just saw my myself in one of the introductory shots and pls no. And sadly it's not even the cringey part that bothers me but just myself. About the camera work: many of the WG guys I've talked to tonight didn't like it. Chances are pretty good they'd fix it. PS Strangers gets asked for pictures like every 5 minutes by strangers. -

We were told we are getting the replays so I will definitely make videos of this once I get them. PS I had lots of fun. My role wasn't the most fun though. Strangers asked me what I'd like to play and I didn't think I was good enough with TB carrier play as it can make it break the game. I was tried out the Atago but I think it's the same issue again. The same for DDs. I think I could've played the DD ahead of the BBs or the Kutuzov, but Jingles really liked the Kutuzov on top of that I'm very very very in l inexperienced with Kutuzov in general and I just like the Tirpitz so... That's why I was the Tirpitz. Just not the most fun role in every game (that is - you're dead like 6-7 minutes in so not the greatest). But let's be fair - this role fits me well because I tend to do this a lot anyway. -

Also in regards to commentary: because there isn't really a scene for it there are very few people who would be able to move the camera and then there are few who could cast too. Note that the casters did not actually move the camera. The cameraman actually told us at the end that it was one of the more difficult things he has had to do. I mean I wasn't even sure how to follow it, so I can understand. I think that with these setups the game is in multiple stages: 1. Start of the match. People going into position - some ships for one of the caps. In our case we sent one DD because we were confident our DD could win the 1v1. Second DD pushed into the contesting cap followed by the BBs and Atago. Thing to follow is the DDs and carrier plane spotting. 2. First contract - first shots get fired and both teams call a first target. Because I was usually the first over spotted I would be the target. Then the follow target should be the BB getting focused then switch to the other BB once the first one fires down. Always keep an eye on the air battle. 3. Brawl - this is when BBs tend to get very close to one another and kill each other. Usually the DD fights are over mostly and it becomes a brawl. Follow the cruisers mostly and look out for DD "skill". Always pay attention to air battles. 4. Cleanup - one side has taken the advantage and it's important to follow the guys that are down and are likely to lose. But always follow air battle (in our case it was essentially over already). But again this is the type of game play we had. We had played vs the other guys and we knew that this way of playing works nicely for us. There are some other strats that might have to be followed in a different way. But this is just my opinion and I mean I have a bit experience with the game now. -

We picked the best composition until the final match. The Tirpitz pick is the best one for our strategy because the battleships are going to be focused down super hard. Their point is to eat damage and give time for the Atago and Kutuzov to eat the enemy players. It's a bit unfortunate but the Atago is definitely the superior damage cruiser that's team battle legal. Mogami isn't even a contest. Myouko could be but no heal means it isn't (also no concealment module because tier 7). The top TB air defense cruiser is the Kutuzov that's also back up damage. Almost all the damage is supposed to come from there. Carrier battle tends to be a lot more even but the other team decided not to escort their carrier to give more firepower to the sea battle to kill me and pointy quickly so they can jump over to dosing the Atago. So this meant Strangers could strike the enemy carrier. I was (some) of the time calling (tracking) the planes and similar once I went down. Remember - capping wins games. First two maps we took caps and won. Third map we didn't cap and lost. I mean we lost because we ran out of points. (The third one was to try to brawl enemies by us - that was more for show. Actually that is a fine tactic but the map we was really poor for it. Land of fire would've been perfect but not Shatter). PS we were told we can get the replays so probably many of us are going to talk about them. -
Wait, I could've sworn I was a community contributor. Meh, must've just been my imagination.
