Maybe you should go try playing CVs at high tiers first and then come back and try saying the same things again.

I think a big issue is that people will maintain their "running away" and "grouping up" even if they're losing and their only chance is to stop doing that. So even if your team somehow pushes the enemies into a situation where they would have to separate they'll just stay together and lose.

I disagree with the Yamato's assessment - Montana only has short range AA over the Yamato. The Montana's and Yamato's long range AA (which is the bulk of the AA power) is pretty much the same. Yamato's AA: 1) 5.0 km - 122 dps. 2) 3.1 km - 281 dps. Montana's AA (the numbers on ranges might vary by like 100 meters because I calculated them as my Montana has AA range upgrade): 1) 5.0 km - 157 dps. 2) 3.5 km - 302 dps. 3) 2.0 km - 162 dps. Once you put your AA range upgrades on, the long and mid range guns are going to be the main AA dps and they're very similar on both ships - difference is like 10-15%. Also, Yamato (27 kts, 900m, 22.1s) is essentially as agile as the Montana (28 kts, 950m, 22.2s). I would say that it's better to attack the Yamato with dive bombers, because Montana has the short range AA that the Yamato doesn't. However, I would say that it's much better to attack the Montana with torpedo bombers, because Montana's torpedo defense is 39%, while Yamato's is 55% and against torpedo bombers the AA that works is almost exclusively long and mid range AA anyway, so their AA strengths are very similar.

There's a few reasons why they can't fire, one could be like 1dolo mentioned, that you can't shoot all your guns directly to the front. Another reason can be that if the target you have locked is moving too fast relative to your gun rotation then it might show "green", but the guns are tracking it all the time and still won't let you fire as they just can't track fast enough (this is particularly relevant if you're in a close range fight).

Yeah, because you can't say crapagainst BB MAFIA. No point in wasting your breath. Not to mention that in competitive play CVs were never going to be about striking down opponents, and be purely about scouting. In random battles there usually are people so dumb that they have no clue how to even press A or D to help against planes, let alone ctrl click them or getting AA upgrades or similar. It's funny that every other class had "get 100 kills" missions, while CV was "get 25 kills". The reason why balance "seems off" is because the players at low tiers don't know how to handle planes. Planes are so slow and ships turn so fast at those tiers that you can pretty much guarantee outturning planes for a very long duration. Remember, planes *NEED* to hit you because it takes a CV 3-5 minutes for ONE strike. If those plane hits can be *consistently dodged* then the class is already useless in random battles (not useless in terms of not doing anything but useless in terms of advancing). Scouting and spotting does not get rewarded in any way - yet this is literally the #1 thing CVs can do and how they can influence a game. It's not that low tier carriers are too good, but high tier carriers are more often than not just really really bad. Most people don't know how to react to carriers or play against them because they never had to seriously learn how to play against them. If you played in CBT you know all these things - ask for your team's help, ask for cruiser support etc. Those things actually happened constantly during CBT in chat, yet nowadays it pretty much never happens. Why? Because CVs are not really a threat to most players at almost any tiers. WASD hax at low tiers pretty dodges almost all torpedoes from a CV unless you're being struck in an unfortunate circumstance. High tier CV play is a whole lot like if you could play cruisers but *ONLY* use AP - it would be a nightmare because everyone would know that unless they messed up you'd be a very limited threat. DDs are the main class that should fear CVs. But again, it's due to scouting and spotting (and the stupid way torpedo spotting works - spot them once and they stay spotted forever). But again, CV play is in no way incentivized to do that, because they get nothing for it. They already get massively reduced rewards for the same stuff, so adding on to that makes it really bad. This was pretty much never the case when you pressed WASD in a BB or T in a CA. Even back when people complained left and right about CVs it wasn't really that hard for a BB of equal tier to the CV to survive 10 minutes of strikes straight (and if you can't find AA help in that time what the [edited]is your team doing?). And yes, I'm talking Yamato vs Hakuryuu. It went down the tiers in a similar fashion as well. It was all about knowing how to dodge the attacks and out playing the attacking CV with your WASD usage. "Yeah, no." AA is so ridiculously strong right now that it's not "dealing with singular squadrons", unless you mean that you can just AFK sail and the AA takes care of literally all the planes before they can even drop. Then yeah, I guess it is about singular squadrons. Outside of that you need to really carefully pick your targets because if you get too close to certain ships you just lost your flight of planes, which means another 2-3 minutes to set up the next attack, and you ended up doing no damage. You're also a whole 12 planes down, which is a large portion of your replacements. If you actually get AA perks (and you should, because they are by far the largest upgrades you can get compared to things like secondaries which barely make a difference) AA is ridiculous. Often in my BBs I come away being one of the most planes shot down when CVs attack me (and this is at tiers 8 too), just because I actually did get AA upgrades as they're literally the only ones that make sense to get. They don't ever think about the fact that sailing in groups wrecks CVs super hard. Why don't we do it like this: only one ship's AA can affect planes at the same time? That way sailing in a group won't matter and CVs will be happy too! Also, WG, for the love of god, stop with these [edited]2vs2 CV games at mid tiers - put them equally into your games.

If there's room then sure, but you can't win diamonds. You will be passed over for any prizes, sorry (WG rules).- 86 replies

If you know the game then there's 0 question about this kind of a topic. If you know the game then you wouldn't go "no I won't, stop telling me what to do!!!!" you'd go "yeah, i've been using it the entire time, do people really not use it?" Because from my point of view, and the players I interact with, this is common sense. It's supposed to be. Clearly, if you need to be told this, you do not know better. You can find the opposite all you want - it's completely up to you whether you want to listen to the advice. Half the posts here are you guys complaining about the tone of the post and that being the big issue why you don't want to adopt the advice. That's just BS. It's BS because you're going to adopt it at some point as it's simply the way to go. The positive aspect of this is though that it does keep the topic up so more people see it and will know better from now on.

No, I'm comparing your attitude towards it. You wouldn't stop breathing when somebody told you, would you? Because breathing is a good [edited]idea. So why would you not use premium consumables? It's also a good [edited]idea. I'm not interested in dealing with children who will start crying the moment you use a few harsh words.

I would really like to use it on all ships because it's a really nice tool to spot ships that you normally wouldn't spot (looking at this from the perspective of stealth firing those fighter planes are a huge pain). I tend to use them on battleships and cruisers where I am afraid of being torpedoed or a destroyer coming close range - it's essentially like a flying hydro - spots torpedoes and ships for you but not in every direction all the time. So I mostly use it on like the Montana, Tirpitz and Amagi.

Blind Shot: Lady Luck Smiles Upon Me:

I always use premium consumables for (unless I make a mistake and forget to equip it): - Damage Control Party - Smoke Screen - Heal - Radar I almost always (but not 100%) use it for: - Speed Boost I sometimes use it for: - Fighter Plane I usually don't use it for: - AA ability (unless I'm in a CV then it's on 100% of the time) - Scout Plane (depends on the ship, for the Molotov I would always use it, for things like the Nagato I would never use it). - Hydrocaustic Search (but I don't play any ships where I have a strong hydro on, so that is the big issue)

What? Are you telling me that I can't just hide in a corner? I do what I want, don't tell me what to do!!!!
-
Essex actually. Replay: http://wowreplays.com/Replay/3120

Why? When I order you to breathe air will you suddenly stop breathing air and throw a temper tantrum of "OMG DONT TELL ME WHAT TO DO"? Same when I tell you to look both ways before crossing the street? I'm seriously sorry for even trying to make some of you guys know a bit more about the game. You'd think that a person would be able to see beneficial information and then decide themselves whether they should use said information or not, but it doesn't seem to be this way.

I've only ever broken 400k once, and that was in CBT.
-
You can do what you want, because the person who is statistically the most on your team, and will suffer the most from your tantrum, is yourself. Technically, if I play enough games and most people make bad decisions then I will have a better time in terms of credits, xp, games etc. I would just like the overall level of play in the game to increase and these changes are the first steps people need to take. If you truly were out for your own interests you would understand it yourself that using these consumables is in your best interest. If you don't like the tone people use then don't follow the advice, just keep doing yourself a disservice and just don't do it. Obviously it's much more important to have people be nice to you all the time than it is to do better in the game.

Well, since almost all of the submissions are winning matches the answer is "not really", but I guess every time someone did burn down and they didn't use premium DCP that could've made the difference as they might've just had more HP. But this match does come to mind, where the player did not have a smoke or speed boost available towards the end of the match because he just didn't use premium consumables: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4JMHrocIdE

Too many people submitted replays to my replay contests where they did not use premium consumables in high tier ships. This makes me think that my allies in matches are likely also not using them, which is just no. Pls no. Considering said 50k makes you more likely to win ti sounds to me like it's completely worth it.

So, you're telling me that you like a game mode that encourages turtling and staying in your base? Nice. And yeah, I could go play another game - in fact I did for quite a while, but people didn't seem to like it as much.
-
There wasn't in CBT. I had multiple 19 point captains in CBT when the numbers were a bit more reasonable.
