[GNBAerroon3] Week 3: Replay Contests + Destroyer Duel on Saturday!
Aerroon posted a topic in Contests
Hello and welcome! Introduction Week 3 is around in the Grand Naval Battles so I imagine you guys know the drill. I am running destroyer duel competition and two different replay contests: one for "the best moment" and one for "the most kills" (followed by xp as a tiebreaker). Prizes 100 diamonds for best moment 100 diamonds for best moment #2 100 diamonds for most kills > xp 100 diamonds for most kills > xp #2 100 diamonds for a RANDOM person who submitted for "most kills" 200 diamonds for DD duel 100 diamonds for dd duel runner up 200 diamonds reserved Explanation of Replay Contests Best Moment: I want to see a replay of what you consider to be the best moment you have had in a match. The match has to have been after the 17th of May (included). In terms of a best moment it could be a minute or two long even - some kind of a sequence of events that is just so amazing - like say you shoot three salvos in a battleship and every single one kills an enemy ship from full HP. Crazy things like that. Along with the replay you have to add a description of what happened and a timestamp of it (match time). You have to explicitly state in your submission if your submission is for the best moment. Most Kills: I want to see a replay where you get the most amount of kills in a match. If there are two replays with equal amount of kills the one with a higher base XP score will be chosen instead. The match has to have happened after the 17th of May (included). Random submission: I will pick a random person out of all those who submitted a replay in the "most kills" category (your name only goes into the box once regardless of how many submissions you had). However, your submission for "most kills" has to have at least half the kills (rounded up!) of the "most kills" category's winner. Time for the Replay Contests Submission for the replay contests end 24th of May 2016 at 15:00 Germany's time (CEST). Replays must be from a match that happened after the 17th of May (included). Submitting to the Replay Contests: The submission must be a reply to this thread. No emails anymore, I'm sorry. A submission must include the replay file, an image of the personal score screen, an image of the team score screen and an image of the detailed score screen (the last one is less important). For the "best moment" category you have to include a timestamp AND a description of said "best moment" in the post. You can upload the images and replay file as attachments to the post (or elsewhere like imgur, dropbox etc), but I would prefer it if you used http://wowreplays.com/Upload/gnbaerroon3 So these are the steps how you would do a preferred submission. 1. Just go to: http://wowreplays.com/Upload/gnbaerroon3 2. Include in the description of the replay the description of your "best moment" if it's the best moment replay and the timestamp for it. 3. Post the link to the replay on the wowreplays site into this forum thread. If it's a "best moment" replay then include the timestamp and description of the best moment (you can just copy paste it). Explanation for the Destroyer Duel I will hold a destroyer duel of tier 3 or lower destroyers on Saturday the 21st of May at 18:00 Germany's time (CEST). YOU HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR THIS IN THIS THREAD (just say you'll be there). The idea is that you will sign up for this duel, then you show up at that time on my stream and we will all go into a training room (you need the mod enabled) where you will pick a tier 3 or lower destroyer. In that training room you will fight a series of 1vs1 duels inside a Cap Zone on the Ocean map against other destroyers. I will announce who fights whom. It has to be a tier 3 or lower destroyer. You are ONLY ALLOWED TO USE TORPEDOES. NO GUNS. The fight starts with both destroyers facing towards one another inside the cap zone with their noses pointed towards the middle of the cap (more or less). I announce the start of the fight and then you both may move your ship. You are only allowed to use torpedoes against the enemy destroyer. You may leave the cap zone, but whoever either kills the other first or caps the point wins the duel. If you use your guns you may be disqualified (depending on the circumstances). If there are not enough competitors I might have you fight multiple battles! No ramming. Destroyer Duel Time Destroyer duel competition starts at 18:00 Germany's time (CEST) on the 21st of May. Duration depends on number of people who sign up and show up. Explanation for "reserved 200 diamonds" This is a pool of diamonds that are there to use on what I want to reward someone extra. They are there so that if I find that I like a few replays that end up not winning in the contest but are still to my liking I might award based on that. Or I might award some extra during the destroyer duel competition or anything like that. Essentially these are up for use based on purely my decision (obviously I'm not going to give them to somebody for nothing).- 86 replies

I wouldn't care about the amount of XP required for this IF retraining a captain to another ship wasn't based on the XP it takes to get to the next level. This means that an 18 point captain requires 5 million XP to retrain. Effectively making it so you can only retrain it with doubloons. Not to mention, it takes literally less XP to get a new captain from 0 to 18 points than it takes to retrain a captain from one ship to another at 18 points.

Re-Post: Very interesting info from Reddit - "Damage Control System Modification 1" reduces damage!
Aerroon replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Well, it's certainly more useful on the Montana who has like 39% TDS than Yamato who is at 55% or Amagi that's at 45%. But in both cases it's a good idea to get, and since on a battleship your engine and steering gears almost never get damaged anyway you might as well go for that one. That's weird, because the tooltip does say it in a way where you would think that it affects it. -
Yes, and this one time I was spotted by an enemy CV plane too and the enemy Yamato used a scout plane and instakilled me from 30km away. Clearly BBs can do that and just aren't!!!

Hello and welcome! Introduction With the Grand Naval Battles event going on there are Community Contributor run events as well where you can earn some extra diamonds. For Week 2 I am running two separate types of contests: 4 prizes for a guide contest (200 diamonds each) and a replay contest for the most amazing tier 5 or below battle (200 diamonds). To take part in the guide contest just post a guide below in this thread (text + images preferred) about a good introductory guide for one of the four ship classes. To take part in the replay contest just submit a replay with the end screen images according to the details below. The match must be during the Grand Naval Battles event from the 4th of May onward. Submissions must be done before the 17th of May 2016, 15:00 Germany's time (CEST). No repeat winners from the first weeks! Prizes 200 diamonds for best destroyer guide. 200 diamonds for best cruiser guide. 200 diamonds for best battleship guide. 200 diamonds for best aircraft carrier guide. 200 diamonds for the best replay in a tier 5 or below ship from the 4th of May onward (judged by me, sorry if you don't get picked). Time Submissions end for both the replay contest and guide contest on the 17th of May at 15:00 Germany's time (CEST). What do you want to see in a guide in this contest? I would like to see guides that explain the basics of that ship class and how to play them, what kind of commander skills to use and what kind of module upgrades to get. Basics of the gameplay for carriers, for instance, would include things such as how to do manual torpedo bomber drops, how to strafe (and why), how to dive bomb, what kind of targets you should select (and when), what kind of mistakes to avoid etc. I would like to see similar things for all the ship classes (so destroyers would definitely talk about capping, battleships about why they shouldn't be on the map edge and so forth). Remember that images are really helpful to get a point across. Also, remember that a good guide doesn't have to explain every little detail. What do I need to submit? For the guide contest submit a guide in a post in this thread. I would prefer that the guide be in a text + images format but it doesn't have to be. I will look over the guides and pick the one I like the most and possibly make it into a video guide later so others can learn to play the guide. For the replay contest you need to submit the replay file, and 3 images of the end screen: your personal result, team scores and your detailed report (damage done). If you submit at http://wowreplays.com/Upload/Aerroon then that will include all the info needed. Just make sure to include "GNBAerroon2" somewhere in the title or description of the submission (no quotes). Then post the link here or email it to me. Also give a succinct explanation as to why you think it was a great match. How do I submit a replay for the replay contest? Main (preferred) way to submit: Go to this website: http://wowreplays.com/Upload/Aerroon and submit the replay. Include "GNBAerroon2" in the title or description of the replay on the site. (Without quotes, no space.) Post the link to said replay (from the site) here in this thread or email it to "aelloonthorne@gmail.com" (If you email it include "GNBAerroon2" in the title of your email AND include your in game name). Alternative: Post in this thread or email me at "aelloonthorne@gmail.com" the following things: Replay file of the match. Image of personal score end screen (the one that has your ribbons and xp and credits on it that you see right after the battle). Image of team score end screen. Image of detailed score end screen (the one that says damage done). If you email me then include your in game name in it. Help, my replay link doesn't show up on wowreplays.com In that case you can go to the "Newest" tab at http://wowreplays.com/ and look for it there. Alternatively you can search for your ingame name on the site as well and then pick out the replay and post here or email etc. Other rules: There is no submission limit, but please do not spam. Obviously no cheating of any kind either. And please no gaming of the system in a way that seems abusive. Yes, this last one is hard for you to know exactly, but I imagine you guys get the essence of the contest so try not to go too hard against that, otherwise I will not take your replays and that means no diamonds. No repeat winners for my events during the entire GNB (and no, I will not reward a higher diamond prize either, so winning here is as best as you could do anyway). You can't win in multiple categories. Even if you do post the best guides in all 4 categories you'll only get rewarded for one and passed in the other ones - I might still use your guide for the video though. Rules Update: if you've already received a prize in someone else's contest for the same replay then I'm sorry but I will pass you on for someone else's match. This doesn't mean you can't submit to multiple people but I will not reward a prize then. Sorry. How do I record replays? http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/19170-enabling-wows-replays or check out Aslain's mod pack or even ask in this thread. If you have any questions or suggestions please let me know!

Capping 3 zones is absolute [edited].
Aerroon replied to anonym_5SsDJH3ePhJT's topic in General Discussion
It's ok, just have the CV spot and kill them. Oh wait, all the whining has made it so that half the games don't even have CVs, especially at the higher tiers. Well enjoy the results of your hard-earned labor then! PS with the word "you", I'm not talking about Kazomir. -
Why would I be angry? The [edited]? And of course you can *like* it all you want, but it is a rather objectively bad ship. It does not offer the performance other ships do at the tier or role. Can it offer something unique? Maybe. The torpedoes might in some contrived circumstance end up being better than what others have, but that's going to be so rare compared to normal situations. And why do you bring in being a community contributor to this? It has nothing to do with what I'm saying or the topic or anything else here. I don't understand why it matters who the person is that says the things when I gave you a list of things that are wrong with the ship and why it's bad. It's not like me being a decent player or being a community contributor makes what I said any more right or any more wrong. In fact, this kind of thing is the reason why I originally was hesitating becoming a community contributor and perhaps one day will stop being one as well. I can tell anybody who I want whether a ship is good or bad. Whether I like a ship or not has nothing to do with how good or bad it is, because when I judge a ship I mostly emphasize the measurable values of the ship. And the Cambeltown does not measure up to the other equivalent destroyers. That's how you look at whether a ship is good or bad: you compare it to other similar ships in similar roles.
-
Do you honestly think that we haven't talked about this? Do you really believe that the CV players just sat around twiddling their thumbs from CBT to now? Of course not. But because WG keeps [edited]CVs people just stopped caring. WG doesn't want there to be a large playerbase of CVs and thus there isn't. As a result there's no point for CV players to say almost anything since their points of view aren't listened to. Recently a patch changed the following: before you pressed "M" twice at the start of the battle to go into CV view. A recent patch (0.5.5) changed it and it doesn't work anymore. Every CV player I talked to said it's annoying. WG said that they had only heard it from one person. Why? Because CV players already know that it doesn't matter what they say. Just look at this thread and it's a good example already.
-
So, you're saying that a tier 3 destroyer with 63 second torpedo reload time is fine, especially when she can only launch 3 torpedoes (one launcher) to one side of the ship? Okay then. Oh and lets not forget that she can only shoot you with 2 guns at a time too. A truly great ship, right? Even the Albany pales in comparison to this ship in how bad it is.
-
It doesn't have any. It's terrible. The only thing the ship has going for itself is the name and origin. In terms of ingame performance it's awful.
-
No. I refuse to facebook.
-
RN = Russian Navy, right?
-
And now that it has been nerfed people still aren't aggressive, just as though the issue maybe wasn't even the Shimakaze torpedoes! WEIRD, HUH?
-
Why would you think that? WG doesn't care about the data. WG balances by statistics, if only a tiny fraction of players play CVs then it's going as WG planned. And dropping further or closer makes no difference. Potatoes who whine still get hit by the same amount and the better players just avoid all torpedoes then. We've already seen and tried it and it makes essentially no difference.
-
There wasn't. Just battleship players crying like children like they always have been. Notice how it's always nerf this and that but it never targets BBs? Yeah. HE is OP, fires are OP, torpedo bombers are op, dive bombers are op, planes are op. etc You want threads? Fine. Whining about CVs: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/52529-minimum-range-of-air-launched-torpedos/ Whining about Zaos and stealth fire (later on in the thread): http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/52425-stealth-firing-nerf/ Whining about DDs: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/51214-torpedo-soup-why-it-exist-and-what-can-be-done/ etc There are so many threads made every day that I'm sure if you just keep scrolling through the pages you'll see many of them. Particularly if you go a bit back in time.

[GNBAerroon4] Week 4: Replay Contest, BB Duel and Skin Modding Contest

But they all have the anti air ability, which means that the CV flies in, gets triggered, has to fly out while losing some planes then has to wait 40 seconds and then can drop again. During which the CA could run away, or adjust into a better position, or enemy fighters could come around, or an enemy AA cruiser or battleship could come around. On top of that if you try striking 3 of such ships in the course of a game you are doing over 120 seconds (>2 minutes!) of just waiting around for AA ability to wear off.
