Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
El2aZeR replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Let's hope that supertesters tell them how utterly [edited] this is (and ofc that WG listens). Really, they should remove auto-dropping instead so that scrubs are forced to learn how to manual drop at least. -
I think it would allow for some really sneaky play. For example, you drop a flare and reveal a dark ship. You can then maneuver your planes around outside the flare radius then set up your attacks accordingly without worrying about AA. You could even wait out the duration of the flare so your planes become dark immediately after dropping to cut losses.
-
Couple of ideas: 1. Equip fighters and/or DBs with flares that can be dropped once then have to be re-armed, revealing ships but also revealing your planes in a certain area (same idea as star shells, really). Otherwise your plane detectability will be very low (like in cyclones). 2. You will be unable to spot torps without vision from flares/star shells. 3. Ships with searchlights on suffer a hefty penalty to air detection, while dark ships will be practically (or maybe even completely) invisible from the air. 4. Having searchlights enabled increases the detectability of planes to normal values. 5. To start & land planes you need to have your own lights enabled, making you suffer a hefty penalty in both surface and air detection.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

I'm the Donskoi. Senpai noticed me (Also saved by Russian bias @ 14:00 ) -
To "Iowa" or not to "Iowa" that is the question...

Not sure if anyone noticed (I certainly didn't), but according to Sub_Octavian Iowa's and Monty's citadel will finally be lowered to historical heights.- 78 replies

Can't even remember the last time this has worked against me in a CV, never mind worked for me when playing a DD, but I do still see it happen from time to time. When it happens I usually just sink the offending DD while trash talking him. I mean, just simple map awareness is enough to foil it, not to mention the Situational Awareness skill will let you know far in advance when there is someone creeping up on you (another reason why I don't take CE on my CV, it'll actually shorten my reaction time). On a different note, you know something is wrong when you manage to get a cap. In a Bogue.
-
Or you could bring back CVs to actively punish campers.
-
No, what you're still ignoring is why CVs deal the most damage out of all classes. Hint: It's not because they're broken or OP in any way. Still on about that despite demonstrations that it would be impossible, mh? I mean, I'd love to know how exactly you plan to "bring them into line with other classes" if you're willing to explain it in a separate thread. Personally I can't see it work, but hey, you might prove me wrong.
-
To be fair it doesn't show what exactly the target was (considering the top part specified a "plate" and the bottom only a "target" word choice may be deliberate here). Is there a third page to this and if so can someone provide it?
-
More like the 5th new line with strong AA. With literally every new addition to the game AA just gets stronger and stronger, Grozovoi simply represents the current apex of AA power creep. So yeah, the world is indeed kinda ending for CVs. Also you're still not putting your "facts" into context.

What, you don't listen to the sound of the ocean and artillery fire in your spare time? Am I the only one? On a more serious note, they're probably asking because of the background music. Personally I love it (who doesn't love epic orchestral music?), but other people may have different tastes.

Just some simple comparisons Real Life RPM Ingame RPM USN 5"/38 Mk 32 15-22 10-10,5 RN 4"/45 QF 15-20 20 IJN 12.7cm/40 Type 89 8-14 10-12 MN 130mm/45 Mle 1932 (French) 10-12 12 KM 105mm L/65 15-18 17-20 *inb4 anti-US bias*

Ahh, thanks. Never knew that. Nah, afaik US secondaries are the only ones shafted this way.
-
Aren't the 5"/38 guns shafted down to 10 rpm?
-
Yes, but even considering that I doubt her gun performance would jump all that much (heck, it may even decline). At T8 she'd be vulnerable to citadel hits at any range while she herself would have to close the distance to inflict any kind of meaningful damage. I'd love to know where you're getting this from because if I remember correctly there has been no explanation as to what Krupp actually does. The only thing we know is that pen values ingame fairly accurately represent values found irl (with a bunch of exceptions).
-
May I present to you my glorious MS Paint skills? (Must've screwed up that 2nd to last one, hence the sudden dip. It's a rough estimation anyway)
-
Well, referring to this: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/59528-armor-penetration-curves/page__st__220__pid__1512010#entry1512010 and the fact that combat at T6 usually occurs at ranges far closer than 15km, yes. Also shows that KGV would actually have about the same penetration power as Bayern lol. You really want to put that at T8?
-
As I already stated, her armor would mean very little at the ranges combat occurs at that tier. And she'd actually be marginally undergunned considering her opposition, which can be compensated for by having better shells. Actually KGV would have one of the worst penetration values at T6 according to navweaps.com, being somewhat equal with Bayern which is currently the worst T6 BB in terms of raw penetration power.
-
Nah. Iowa's citadel irl was at and below the waterline. Refer to this thread over on the American forums: http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/99212-confirmed-iowamontana-citadel-modeling-error/ How so? Aside from the fact that the Queen Elizabeth class also occupies that spot and that it wouldn't fit the "timeline" I think T6 would fit vanilla KGV reasonably well for reasons mentioned above.
-
Monty and Iowa. Usual issue about the citadel being an entire deck too high, which is both crippling ingame and ahistoric. WG went on to explain that every citadel is modeled this way, which as we all know is bs, and buffing them would make them "too good". Yes. Aside from historical reasons (which take a backseat to balance) I see very little reason not to put her at T6. Within ~15km or so every BB would easily be able to penetrate her belt, which is well within the usual combat distance at that tier. Even bow on her lightly armored conning tower will mean she'll take a hell of a lot of pen damage to her superstructure, being a reasonable trade-off for her superior belt. Throw in a 14-15km range limit to her guns, artificially nerf down her AA and give her a high turning circle to offset her high speed and we have a perfect T6 vessel. And if she still turns out too strong just give her the Iowa/Monty treatment and place her citadel above the waterline. That'll make every armor advantage she has moot. But regardless of what we discuss here, we all know how this is going to go down. KGV will get placed at T8 with a 15" or 16" gun upgrade, while DoY or PoW gets introduced as a premium ship with her original armament a tier lower, getting lolpen guns, radar/hydro, smoke & def AA.
-
Well, I don't really see why KM BBs get better HE overmatch when bad HE shells is supposed to be one of their weaknesses. I'd count that as a screw up that however hasn't really generated much outcry since people tend not to use HE shells in BBs anyway. Meh, I've lost all hope when they told me certain underperforming ships don't deserve buffs and outright lied about the reason. That and "2016 will be a great year for CVs!".
-
I once brawled a almost full HP Scharnhorst in a 14k HP Chapayev. When the dust settled I walked away with ~7k health and the Scharnhorst sank to the bottom of the ocean. So to be fair she does indeed suffer tremendously when up-tiered. I'd rather not have WG tamper with overmatch. They aren't exactly known for their careful balancing work.
-
It is funny seeing people arguing that KGV would be a great fit at T8 when she would literally be unable to seriously hurt most same tier cruisers, as she won't be able to overmatch their bows with 14" guns no matter how good her penetration or krupp values are. Either give her a fantasy 15" gun upgrade or place her at T7 max (even that'd be questionable imo considering both Myoko and Yorck will be able to bounce her shells with their belts). Personally I'd place her at T6 and nerf her AA down if she retains her original armament. Same issue with 15" guns on a T10. Impossible to overmatch bow/belt of DM, rest will be able to bounce with belt effortlessly (aside from Mino ofc).

If Gearing can chase you're gonna be within 7km a long long time. That doesn't even take into account that he's gonna get the jump on you every time, not to mention the devastating frequency you might lose modules due to hilarious rof. But I guess we can discuss this for all eternity and not come to a consensus. But regardless, Grozovoi doesn't particularly strike me as a useful gunboat as she lacks range, maneuverability and stealth fire. She's gonna get lit up every time she doesn't sit in smoke, which in turn makes her vulnerable to torps.
-
In a direct duel, no. But you have the stealth to force the Grozovoi (and almost any other DD) into a knife fight, which you will inevitably win.
