Stevlin, stop claiming that making the game more realistic would make it more fun. Well, alright, for you possibly it would be more fun, but it would make it much closer to a simulation, something comparatively few players find fun to play. WG has already stated in their dev diaries that they have tried a more realistic approach and came to the conclusion that it was not fun for the vast majority. Your own views are flawed. Accept it. And before you go ahead and spout your nonsense again, you have already been proven wrong on both accounts by a previous f2p game. Not only was it a lot more simulation heavy, it had FFs, DDs, Cruisers, BBs, CVs and even submarines and it was all very well balanced, too. Guess where that game is now? It's dead and has been for some time. And it's sad that it's dead, but from a game design standpoint it was bound to happen. Also we all signed up for the beta because we were all just "general gamers" and had no interest in naval history whatsoever. Right. Get real, dude.

Not really. DDs are actually weaker than they were irl all things considered. You know what hard counters DDs? CVs. Too bad BBabies have already killed them off.
-
At least on high tiers USN BBs have kinda evolved into mid-range fighters and flankers, making use of their excellent concealment, accuracy (which surpasses IJN accuracy at mid-range provided you take the accuracy module) and armor penetration to punish anything that shows it's broadside to them, then fade away before the enemy has a proper chance to reply. This also makes them comparatively unforgiving to play, however. If you're looking for an easy BB line to play, I'd direct you to the KM line instead.

I believe you, too, need a healthy dose of l2p.

May I present to you the queen of all rainbow arcs that is the Cleve (of which the impact angle is historically accurate)? Doesn't look so rainbow from the receiving end, no? Seriously, while tracers are actually accurate they create an optical illusion from the shooter's perspective, making shells appear to be falling far steeper than they actually do. Meh, I always assume that I either penetrated a barbette or that my shells slipped past the turtleback under the waterline. Same effect either way. Theoretically it could happen. I think you're still fairly unlikely to get citadels tho if WG has modeled deck armor penetration correctly as the horizontal protection of BBs is usually enough at the ranges found ingame to prevent shells from penetrating the citadel.

There haven't been any improvements to fire chance since a long long time. Maybe you simply need a healthy dose of l2p?

Hopefully crisp controls easily capable of supporting ludicrous APM numbers that are way past the human limit. You think I'm joking? On the other hand if that's really only about mouse controls specifically it just means that you'll use left-click to select squads and right-click to move/attack. It'd be hilariously mundane if this turns out to be the big CV rework.

Graf Zeppelin has the dubious honor of having the size of a fleet carrier but the air group of a light carrier with a mere 43 planes. Ofc WG may just ditch realism and give her a larger plane capacity than she could actually carry, but assuming she gets her rl specifications I could see her get placed no higher than T6. T7 would be a possibility if she gets her planes up-tiered like Saipan. I doubt she'd be viable at T8 even with T9-10 planes unless she gets access to all 6 upgrade slots (which on the other hand may make her op). Alternatively you could make her unique by giving her manual control over her armament. I can't really see that being all too useful tho for obvious reasons.

Is there any reason to play Carriers after this patch?
El2aZeR replied to matol1's topic in Aircraft Carriers
It'd actually be a hilarious buff to AS Bogue since without strafe you can't counter it. Would still sell it because AS Bogue is the most boring setup to play ever. -
I would drop Dogfighting Expert unless you're playing T7, as it is simply worthless on any other tier. Personally I went for BFT, High Alert and Jack of All Trades.
-
Saipan already got hit with 2 indirect nerfs. 1. AS skill moved to 4th row 2. Ammo buff on DE skill Dunno how she performs in ranked currently, but even before those nerfs she was hilariously weak in randoms imo, relying more on the fact that your opponent either doesn't have those particular skills or was just straight up a worse player than you. It's been forever since a Saipan has given me serious trouble regardless of setup and even when played by skilled people. In fact I can't even remember a single occasion after I've respecced into DE on my Hiryu when Saipan was introduced.

Ok. That is not be a bot user. Happy now? Seriously, he could've simply disconnected for whatever reason. Having a bot that does nothing the whole game (thus earn 0 exp and credits) would defeat the purpose of using a bot anyway.
-
Pretty sure WG doesn't model internal compartmentalization. No ships would have "citadel belt armor" otherwise.

Did you design it to be made out of ice?
-
Isn't normalization now tied to gun caliber? I remember reading something along those lines.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
El2aZeR replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
No, you're most likely still gonna get stomped (albeit maybe not as hard), but that's not necessarily the point. The rest of your team now SHOULD know how to evade planes and thus mitigate or outright nullify damage taken from air dropped torps. Whenever I go seal-clubbing in my Bogue I too often see people just sailing in a straight line right into my torps even if I've dropped them from further away, then start to complain about how op CVs are. That still only locks you out, not your team. I mean yeah, it ofc sucks to be you in that situation but it should not impact your team all too much. Besides, if you are able to apply lessons learned from proper tutorials (fight above allied ships, strafe, dodge strafes, etc.) you may actually level the playing field a bit. This is about seal-clubbing, isn't it? That doesn't just impact the CVs. Having flimsier bombers means you will now actually take serious losses when staying inside AA too long even in those tiers, which is a potentially very long time considering the maneuverability and size of those ships as well as your own slow plane speed. Lower torp damage will stop dooming low tier DDs or cruisers with a single hit. Regarding AS, you could just make it have a different effect from T4-6 (like increased ammo or sth) or negate it's effects at those tiers altogether. It's not like there isn't an easy solution for it. I mean really, think about it, WG actually makes seal-clubbing with other ship classes STRONGER by removing alt attacks from T4-5 CVs, yet apparently this is a measure taken against seal-clubbing. Hypocritical much? (Not to mention it removes all counters to AS Bogue, which is totally what we needed) -

Indeed, but your opinion carries basically no weight considering this is a (or rather is supposed to be) team game. -

1. Actually give people some tutorials so that they're not total scrubs when entering random battles that have to find out everything on their own. 2. Slight nerf to plane survivability and/or torp damage. Easy as that. -

If you want to be a potato that goes off on his own and doesn't want to support (or be supported) by your own team then by all means that's your decision, but then you have no right to complain about CVs. Also I think it's rather exhilarating when the team makes a concentrated effort to push or defend and communicates well with each other. No. Even CV players agreed on that CVs were OP. Feedback was given to WG and they adjusted them accordingly. -

And if you remove CVs it would cripple game balancing and core game mechanics. Same effect, really. It doesn't matter what type of gamer you are. Fact remains that CVs have effective counters and if you're unwilling to learn or apply them then it is your problem, not one with CVs. No, it was done because WG felt that CVs were overpowered (and for a good time they were). -

El2aZeR replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
Even potatoes complain about potatoes. So simply take potatoes out of the game and you kill two birds with one stone. Easy as that. Also, no. The vast majority of players complaining about CVs are unskilled. -
Probably only AA that is not Russian, because everyone knows Mother Russia had superior stronk stalinium AA guns. To be fair all IJN AA guns suffered from some crippling drawback(s) and the 10cm guns are no exceptions. Historically speaking her AA shouldn't be able to shoot down many planes (if any at all) no matter for what purpose she was built.

Same with your assumption that CVs create camping. Camping will exist no matter what you do. CVs neither create nor encourage it. Also going the same way we could simply prevent bad players like you from playing the game. That'll solve almost every problem in the current meta. Does it mean it's a good solution, though? -
VISION: New Carrier gameplay and Low-Tier Rebalance
El2aZeR replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
I don't get what's wrong about it tbh. Cruisers should always be among BBs (or a bit further back) to support them (and have BBs draw shots in return). You should basically never be on the front lines. @OP: 1. Being able to manually control planes is not only counter-intuitive, it'd be an utter waste of time and no one would do it unless you force it in some way (which would be far worse than just leaving CVs as they are now). Why? Because it completely eliminates your ability to micromanage multiple squadrons and set up multi-pronged attacks, which are key aspects of CV gameplay and absolutely necessary skills to have starting T7 latest. 2. Gets eliminated with #1. 3. Make T4/5 planes a bit more flimsy and everything should be fine. Tutorials in general should get introduced for every class to teach them how to play. Seal clubbing with T4/5 CVs is mostly effective not because they're too powerful (although plane survivability is a bit too high), but because people have no idea how to dodge torps. WG has done basically nothing to improve the average player skill, instead letting them find out things on their own by trial and error. 4. Gets eliminated with #3.
