I think this with a couple of these as secondaries (over 30km range and pinpoint accuracy) as well as jets over 100kn faster than contemporaries armed with precision guided nukes would make a reasonable T10 RU CV.

Well, what other nation even had enough CVs to make a full line? Tbh at this point I don't think we'll ever see the extensive rework CVs and AA need. Last year it was "year of the CVs", this year we were promised the rework and now it is rework next year + RN CVs. Where is that supposed to lead to?

Is the CV player is the team Babysitter?
El2aZeR replied to ASharpPencil's topic in General Discussion
Which is your opinion and that's fine. Doesn't make it objectively right, tho. Game balancing should be done with the help of statistical analysis, QA testing and player feedback. Concerning the latter what the majority thinks is largely irrelevant. A lot of them are simply not fit to judge the game or aspects of it due to several reasons (skill level, experience, player type, etc.). There are plenty of perfectly balanced aspects in the most successful MP games out there that would've gotten removed for the convenience of noobs had it been done otherwise. However, that does not mean that only the opinion of the most experienced players should be heard, but if the opinions of more experienced players severely contradict the ones of "the majority" then the former should obviously hold more weight. And before you tell me that "the majority" is where you make the most profit, that's not how f2p games work. And now you're putting words in my mouth. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black and such. The recent release of several premium CVs means that CVs are here to stay, no matter what you or I say, no matter how unbalanced they are (WG doesn't exactly have a good track record releasing balanced premium ships anyway, ironically CVs are actually ahead in this regard with Kaga and Enterprise being fairly well balanced against their counterparts, GZ being trash and only Saipan being severely overpowered). -

I don't see you on a crusade against DDs for some reason. According to you, they must be disgustingly overpowered, too. -

A lot. Not going to fault you for not knowing this, though, since you don't actually play high tier CVs. - 10 is an almost entire wipe of a strike in Haku/Taiho, that means you now need to wait longer to get another strike up - it's 1/3rd of Haku's TB reserves. And that's only when playing 2-3-2 to get more of them as I do - it's almost half of what Taiho can sustain in TB casualties - it's pretty much a complete wipeout of DB reserves on both ships (not that it matters if you do a concentrated strike since the enemy is more likely to focus TBs) --> so a good portion of reserves lost to just strike a single ship

Is the CV player is the team Babysitter?
El2aZeR replied to ASharpPencil's topic in General Discussion
- implying BB overpopulation is fine - implying BBs being too powerful is fine - implying cruiser survivability isn't an issue - implying constant DD nerfs is fine etc. etc. etc. But hey, if you're fine with the way the game is in its broken state, that really tells people a lot about how valuable your opinion is. Which is ofc why WG is releasing so many new premium CVs. You have no arguments or evidence on your side other than your "feeling" that you shouldn't be punished for your team's or even your own individual mistakes in a team based game. You say that CVs aren't fun to play which is an entirely subjective observation. You say that it is bad that CVs aren't fun to play against when it is very much intended that it isn't. There is literally nothing you provide that isn't objectively wrong, so now you try to take the high road out. What a surprise. -
When in a realistic match scenario will you ever want to be in an IJN DD, really? Their problem goes much deeper than their primary armament getting neutered by theoretical plane spotting. (Though that could be part of a potential solution. Making their torps harder to spot or even completely invisible to both float and CV planes is at least worth testing imo)

Is the CV player is the team Babysitter?
El2aZeR replied to ASharpPencil's topic in General Discussion
No, you don't. Because now a CV has to rely on his teammates to get something done, just like every other class is and should be reliant on their team in a team based game. Worked like a charm in CBT. Even when CVs didn't really care because CVs were hilariously overpowered back then. Works like a charm in other games given a sufficient skill level. That is where WoWs is actually failing and unsurprisingly so. Besides, how do you balance destroyers without the teamplay aspect of the game? How do you balance cruisers? BBs? Every ship class adheres (or at least should, seeing that the newer BB lines seem to deviate from it) to the basic concept of the game. CVs are no different in this regard. I can't have my planes drop their ordinance onto a target at over 11km range either. To say that this is some sort of reasonable comparison is laughable. As demonstrated by games such as Counter-Strike. Or literally every other successful team based MP game. Oh, wait. Your scenario entails that you either react correctly to the given situation or that you actually have time to react. That is not the case in mine. A mistake has already been made (constantly broadsiding to BBs in a cruiser <-> constantly sailing alone in a match with CVs), punishment is already well on it's way and unavoidable (AP shells <-> planes). There is nothing fun about it nor should there be. Because this is supposed to be a harsh learning experience. Even if you factor in some sort of response in the form of haphazardly aimed shells in the few seconds it takes for such punishment to reach you, you get a consolation price at best that is more often than not detrimental. It's practically the same situation if you get attacked by planes, you may down a couple if you get lucky and picked your WASD accordingly (there's your "fun" interaction btw). Whether or not you derive fun from one or the other is entirely subjective, because at its core it is not supposed to be fun. Personally, I don't from either scenario, which is why I attempt to avoid them as should any sane player. No, you have something that will destroy the game, as proven by the time when CVs went pretty much extinct back in CBT and is the root cause of pretty much every problem we have in the game today. The game cannot function well without CVs, as a ridiculous number of problems pop up the moment you remove one of the fundamental classes that you designed and balanced your game around. And no, the game as it is now can hardly be called functioning. Again, fine for some games, utterly untrue for others. There is no doubt in my mind as to which WoWs belongs to. Wanna change it? Have fun redesigning the game from the ground up. I never implied that you're a solo sailing scrub or the like. But you have an entirely wrong view of how this game is designed or what it is built upon. -
Doesn't matter, because here you can see reactions to and get feedback for the work you're doing, not to mention actually interact with your customers. Sure, we, along with other platforms, may be a minority, but we're an important one. Content creators, who also represent a lot of your income, decide whether a f2p game such as this gets to live or not, the silent majority are largely irrelevant in this aspect. Few will bother trying out a game when most of the (perhaps former) community say it's bad, even fewer will be willing to spend money on it.

I thoroughly agree that it was unprofessional of iChase, but his anger isn't really unjustified either. No matter how you turn it, firing one of the most popular CCs around when your customers are already in full torch & pitchforks mode due to the GZ release debacle (and rightly so) seems... unwise, to say the least.

Is the CV player is the team Babysitter?
El2aZeR replied to ASharpPencil's topic in General Discussion
While it is not necessarily an individual's fault, a team's mistake can also lead to you getting punished. Which is fine because this is fundamentally a team game. Get it through your head. This game is not made for 1v1 or 1vMany interactions. You're part of a team, you're expected to act like it. 8km is now stealthy. Not like most high tier cruisers have less air concealment. Or in few cases even more AA range. Lower and mid tier cruisers I agree are a problem, which I outlined above. There is a reward. For the enemy team. As you have either made yourself an easy target or got abandoned by your team. Or the enemy team just blew yours out of the water. Either way it warrants you getting punished and the enemy team getting rewarded. You may as well ask where the enjoyment is of getting instantly killed by a BB salvo when broadsiding. Or a torp spread when sailing straight for several minutes. You don't get to shoot back when making such colossal mistakes either. No other ship gets punished as much by simple enemy action either. You see, CVs, unlike every other class, cover the whole spectrum from extremely lethal to utterly worthless. And they cannot do anything about it, because where they sit on that scale is entirely dependent on the enemy and their own team's actions. CVs aren't always the way you, or everyone else who whines about them, describe. If you want to cut down on one end then you must inevitably cut down on the other as well. Which in turn either goes against their fundamental design and what they're supposed to achieve, or you just make them more frustrating to play against. Example: You cut down CV TB alpha by half. That's one end down. Then every ship is limited to one plane kill per squad every minute along with current AA mechanics. That's the other. Except the dozens of people who suggested such things. Just because you believe it should be enjoyable when getting killed for your own or your team's failures doesn't mean game design has to adhere to it. In fact, game design in semi-competitive games such as this one is actually supposed to make your life harder, so that you will get punished over and over until you eventually learn from your mistakes. CVs have plenty of problems, their inherent design isn't one of them. -
I'll be the first to admit that I don't like iChase's CV play (on the basis that he's bad) and even called out that he should get removed from the CC program for spreading false information regarding such (stuff like "use Kaga to CV snipe!"). But to have him removed over this is just... Well, can't even find words for it, really.

Enterprise hands down. - better fighters - better scouting potential - better strike potential (regardless of HE/AP bombs) And what are the three pillars of CV play? That's right, contesting air superiority, scouting and dealing damage. In literally none of these areas GZ excels at, while Enterprise is pretty good to excellent in every aspect if you play her right. GZ is currently the worst ship in the game (or at least tied with Krasny Krim). E on the other hand is very close to Shokaku, which still stands on top, in terms of potential impact.

Is the CV player is the team Babysitter?
El2aZeR replied to ASharpPencil's topic in General Discussion
Cruisers are supposed to be able to operate independent of AA cover as well as provide area denial for other classes to operate from. In turn, they need to be supported by other classes to operate effectively. It's a perfectly sound system. Except that most cruisers don't get to do so until T9/10. AA progression as it is now is utterly idiotic and needs to be completely overhauled. As for it not being very fun to get attacked by planes, it's not really supposed to be fun when you're getting punished for either your own mistakes or your team's failings. -

Except CVs were never supposed to be a popular class in the first place. The problem isn't so much that they're not fun to play (as that is subjective) as that it is too difficult for most to play them effectively. The learning curve is simply too steep with no guidance whatsoever. -

You guys honestly think someone is going to stand a couple of hours in queue just to go afk? Set time to play was about 20 mins, aka a single full match. If someone finishes up early then tries to play another game he'll inevitably be forced to go afk. -

You can't see the main armor deck in the armor viewer anymore (since they lowered the citadel), which is ~179mm thick if I remember correctly. So it's actually 38+179+19mm. In general USN BBs are largely immune to citadels via AP bombs, though a blood sacrifice to RNGesus will give you good results every once in a while. -
Honestly, I like where T9-10 CVs are right now. Cruiser AA needs to be able to wipe out entire strikes due to their role. I don't really mind AA being very powerful at the beginning at the match either as it gets whittled down during the course of a match. That makes CVs as team reliant as any other class (barring current BBs). It's the power progression of CVs and AA that makes no sense at all.

Apparently it was too effective against DDs.
