I haven't touched my Hiryu since they buffed Saipan with the whole strafing out shenanigans. Hardly. Most cruisers don't even benefit from it. Mino & Neptune are the only ones that can actually do this, even then it is of questionable value. So yeah, even considering that EM doesn't do anything.

...You guys do realize that enabling voice chat doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to mute, right? I mean, I can't bring myself to play ranked again so I don't really care either way, but this is hardly the worst idea I've ever seen.

Meh, I never see it tbh. Also DM has a higher air spotting range than AA range. It's tiny, but it's sufficient if you're fast enough.

Wrong. AA may not actually target things it cannot see, but you'll see his ship on the minimap because his AA is active at 8km. And since plane spotting range is fixed at 8km that's also your exit point. Tbh I've never seen a Mino shut off their AA before. And I don't do it myself either. But even if, that still leaves you with a 0.8km exit window in which you'll be hard pressed to take more than 1-2 plane losses. Those are hardly a problem unless they go full AA. And if your team cannot deal with a full AA DD then you were most likely going to lose anyway. As you'll fly against things one by one at the beginning of the game anyway you'll at most lose one squad (though tbh I usually don't lose more than 1-2 planes either). For the rest of the game you can guess their position and avoid or deal with them accordingly.

In my experience AA doesn't actually shoot at anything it cannot see. That includes things that don't show up while rendering. The minimap on the other hand always shows stuff regardless of whether it renders or not. Thus if you react fast enough you can avoid any plane losses.

Yes, I in fact did a comprehensive comparison in my Hiryu over a few dozen games. EM on average cut the amount of strikes I could fly by ~1,5 per match if I remember correctly. And yes, I micro'd to the best of my ability. No, I don't, thanks to the minimap and rendering time.

Important ships do not have enough AA that EM will ever matter. Or alternatively have enough AA that EM will not matter. Either way that skill is nothing but a waste of strike potential.

Your target selection ability apparently leaves much to be desired if that worthless skill is the only thing that leaves you with any planes left in a full duration game.

No need for CE, IJN CVs have plenty of concealment. Having too much hurts you too (as you'll have less reaction time to something sneaking up on you). Might be worth considering on a dedicated Kaga captain as she has worse concealment by quite a bit. If you want AA, go for MAA on Taiho & Haku as these benefit massively from it. AFT for everything else. Full AA build isn't really recommended as you have fighters to defend yourself with anyway. Dogfighting Expert is a skill I can thoroughly recommend as you have very little ammo with IJN fighters. JoAT + HA and premium DCP allows you to get out of some really hairy situations sometimes. With the new fire resistance changes for CVs these have become more valuable but are still situational. Demolition Expert could be worth taking? I never do it tbh. Might get you a fire or two more from time to time but considering bombs have really high fire chance anyway. Three points for only +2% seems like a wasted investment. ERG is something you should only take if you have points left over after you've gotten everything you've wanted. There are better ways around catapult fighters. Under no circumstances should you take Evasive Maneuvers. Even if you micro well it will cut down the amount of strikes you can fly in a ridiculous manner, especially during longer games, for absolutely no returns.

- CVs and other DDs were the only DD counters (aka hydro and radar didn't exist) - torps were more powerful and had more range (so DDs nowadays have to get closer to the enemy) - cruisers were more common, BBs more rare - stealth fire removal - implementation of more DD hunters And pretty much everything else WG has done to [edited] up class balance. -

Yeah, no. Hindenburg is the only T10 cruiser fairly immune to AP bomb citadel hits. All others either get oneshot (Zao, Mosvka, DM, HIV) or can potentially take massive damage (Mino). We have two threads clearing things up about the performance of AP bombs against high tier ships already. To sum it up, if you want to kill BBs, they're not worth it. If you wanna kill T10 cruisers in particular, they're hilarious. AP bombs are also far less affected by RNG due to the incredibly small manual drop bomb circle, enabling you to get all your bombs on target on anything but DDs.

You could outright kill the Fletcher with TBs. Thus fighter strafing remains worthless once again.

If the fighter starts strafing you and your own CV isn't entirely stupid he will capitalize on that opportunity. That means you will win both an early kill and air superiority. There is literally nothing to be gained from fighters strafing surface ships.

CVs ironically. When a teammate spots someone firing from smoke, if that guy doesn't have anyone spotting for him planes can come in undetected (or get detected very late) and can get a perfect drop, killing any cruiser and many BBs in a single strike. The few BBs that can survive will usually not last much longer either. Did it a couple of times when the smoke change was new to great effect. Then again that was marginally beneficial as it has always been fairly easy to drop targets in smoke by following tracers. But since BBs and cruisers now tend to ignore smoke that robs DDs of valuable potential forward AA support, making it even easier to find and kill one that is out on the map alone nowadays. And obviously BBs and cruisers ignoring smoke is a hilarious boost to your scouting capabilities. We've experienced an unprecedented amount of indirect CV buffs towards the end of the year (Smoke Change, RN BBs, CBs without CVs). WG realized this too apparently and, in classic WG fashion, introduced the Kidd while buffing DD DFAA, because this was clearly what was needed.

But T1-5 premium ships clearly aren't expensive enough. The returns would be marginal for such genius work put into balancing the Montana. Then again you could also easily copy the current Montana into T1-5 as well and she'd fit perfectly without adjustments. Just gotta make up some fantasy names for those. We're obviously being totally serious as well. What are you on about?

I was thinking more along the lines of making all her planned sisters into premium ships. E.g. make a copy of the current Montana, throw her into T6 where she belongs and rename her Ohio. Then have one for every tier up to T9 with appropriate and totally needed buffs added for each tier. E.g. T7 - add Hydro, Smoke & Speed Boost - Rename: Maine T8 - add Katies, 0m dispersion & Radar - Rename: New Hampshire T9 - add DFAA, Missiles & Super Heal - Rename: Louisiana; behind free exp wall of at least 5m. Montana would then get all the consumables from this year's Halloween Event added on top, which should finally make her approach a balanced state. Most likely still won't reach it, though.

Guys pls. Applying everything from above to the Monty would still leave her underpowered as all out. She is at least gonna need every consumable in the game in separate slots with unlimited duration in addition to all that to become a viable ship. Even that may still not save her as anyone who has in-depth knowledge about the game should be clearly capable of seeing.
