    Damage potential is not up for debate because it is balanced for the individual weapon and not in relation to other classes. If you were to make such changes you'd need to buff them tremendously in another way as you're encroaching on the fundamental roles a CV has to be able to play, for example by both reducing AA drastically in effectiveness and making planes a lot faster. Which in turn would leave CVs with no counters. You'd also be dramatically exacerbating the skill gap once again. So yeah, bad idea. Next you're going to complain about divisions in general being too influential. Who would've thought that teamplay in this team game wins more often than not? Removal of most AA skills and balancing it largely around base values would solve this a lot better if the current AA system is to be retained. But WG seems to have turned a deaf ear to it as this has been suggested time and time again.

    4 CV games are stupid, I'll give you that. But the rest are a problems caused by CVs how exactly? That the average player is braindead is not an issue with CVs and neither is BB overpopulation. Trying to fix those by nerfing CVs is like burning your neighbor's house down because there is a leak in your roof.

    And you believe you deserve to survive or even win when your team plays bad in this team game? Really? Tell you what, if you don't want to be dependent on your team, why should a CV be? Why should a CV have to wait for his teammates to kill AA cruisers or thin out the enemy ranks just so he can attack with any hope for reasonable success?

    Which is supposed to be a problem with CVs how exactly? Balancing concerns only whether or not an effective counter exists, its accessibility and ease of use. The counter to CVs is extremely effective, widely available and doesn't require much, if any, skill. Which is also why CVs have to be able to do devastating damage and potentially outright sink an enemy ship in one strike when considered with all the other drawbacks and advantages the damage potential a CV has. If you cut off on one end you must inevitably cut off on the other as damage dealing capabilities are balanced around the individual weapon rather than in relation to each other. Whether the playerbase is too stupid to use such a counter is no longer a balancing concern, especially considering using it already requires next to no skill. If you get hit by TBs while they're under DFAA you deserve it. Literally nothing else in this game is easier to dodge. You're arguing like it's the CVs fault in some way. All ships are capable of damaging each other to some degree regardless of the counter system WoWs employs due to the fact that the scenario and general enjoyment of gameplay demands it. A cruiser, too, can deal damage to a BB. A DD can shoot down aircraft. A BB can actually utterly devastate a DD with a single salvo. Unless however the target is stupid or in a disadvantageous position the attacker will not survive long. With CVs that principle gets taken to the extreme. Your strike tends to get wiped before they can drop and even if they do drop you'll usually hit nothing or do very little damage in exchange for the loss of extremely limited resources and wasted time. CVs are literally incapable of using their damage potential unless the enemy has made a mistake. Thus the DM has made one or several errors: 1. He popped DFAA late. 2. He didn't spec to his role (which shall be forgiven considering the rarity of CVs and it is indeed ridiculous that skills and upgrades have so much impact on AA performance). 3. He maneuvered wrong. Combined with everything stated above the DM more than deserved to get chunked for half his health as he has severely misplayed one way or the other.

    Shells penetrating and destroying modules count as penetration but deal no damage. This has been in the game since... well, always.

    This was a change made to combat camping and passive play. It didn't work, partially because it was never communicated properly to the average player who doesn't read patchnotes.

    Never encountered it, but I did have a game in which another player stated he's having a similar bug (not even a CV I think). He had no idea what's causing it either.

    And why do you believe it matters? All AP shells will auto-bounce off of that surface at any realistic combat distance found in the game as none can overmatch it. No HE shell in the game can penetrate it either. Thus it is completely irrelevant that the barbette roof is only 130mm.

    Problem is that, no, it doesn't work that way. All you're doing is giving veteran CV players ways to shut down their opposition harder while dealing the exact same damage as before via DCP switch, while the bad CV players remain bad and only get wiped out faster due to overwhelming numbers of enemy fighters. If anything you'd be exacerbating everything you're trying to solve with this. CVs already do as you demand. All setups have viable amounts of fighters available (even if that number, while workable, is rather underwhelming with T7-8 USN CVs).

    Iowa (and Monty) are the most accurate BBs at mid and close range if you've mounted the accuracy upgrade. Even Yamato can't touch them in this regard. If you don't like the accuracy on them you won't like the accuracy on any BB.
  14. Your planes service faster and you get the more effective strike and scouting package, giving you much more flexibility. The longer strafe pathing of USN fighters also makes them vulnerable to counterstrafing. If you're incapable of using the tools at your disposal you should blame yourself, not the tools. EDIT: Oh look, another "cancer division" demolished. And I didn't even try that much.

    Hardly. I've wiped entire Midway strikes in my Fletcher and I haven't even remotely skilled full AA. If anything the Midway is a testament to how braindead the playerbase is. You're joking, right? Thank you for demonstrating how little you understand CV play.

    Hardly. Yes, this is a game. However, by going afk you're ruining this game for others. When you click that battle button you have a responsibility to see that match through. If you have more important and immediate responsibilities or aren't up with a 100% workable system/connection/whatever, you simply don't play. Alternatively you should accept that you're taking a risk and take whatever punishment the game hands out to you if it doesn't pay off. This is a team game with an asymmetrical balancing system. Even one afk player can translate into a huge disadvantage. Saying that "oh, it's just a game" or "I play for fun, I shouldn't have to deal with this" is not only extremely egoistic but utterly, completely idiotic. Sure, you may have fun playing the game while constantly needing to go afk for whatever reason, but you're also constantly ruining the game for at least 11 other people because of this and you seriously believe you should be able to get away with it? Because "it's just a game" or "you play for fun"? Don't make me laugh. In the interest of general fun and gameplay going afk on a regular basis more than warrants automated punishment in the form of temporary bans. Going afk once a couple of weeks is coincidence, going afk all week long is intentional regardless of what problems ail the user.

    CVs are already a support class. Just because the majority of the playerbase is braindead, making CVs more influential beyond their inherent design, doesn't make it any less true.
  18. Makes me wonder if one of the goals of the rework is to conform CVs to fit into 7x7 CB or whether they'll change the format entirely. The former I can only see ending in disaster, the latter would kinda make the CB seasons played now a farce.

    If you want some benchmarks: USS South Dakota holds the record for the most planes shot down in a single day by a BB at 26/32 (depending on who you ask) during the Battle of Santa Cruz. In contrast to that, Yamato probably shot down more planes by exploding than with her AA guns. Or to put things into perspective a late war Gearing class destroyer could put up a more effective flak screen than a Littorio class BB, capable of throwing more lead in the air and doing so far more accurately. Generally speaking the Allied had vastly better AA than the Axis due to doctrine, better director systems, better weapons and VT fuses. They also had better radar which enabled them to know not only that an attack was coming, but also giving them an approximate number of attackers and the direction from which they are going to be hit from. And, perhaps most importantly, the US at least could afford far more training sessions due to the logistical support they enjoyed while retaining their trained and veteran crews as they lost fewer ships by comparison. However even when assembled as some of the biggest naval task forces the world has ever seen supplemented with ludicrous numbers of fighters Japanese planes were capable of breaking through both fighters and AA to attack the US carriers. That'd be completely unthinkable in WoWs. Neither fighters nor AA was nearly as effective as it is ingame.
  20. Yeah, better begrudge the enemy for doing his job rather than taking a look at your own play. It's always easier to blame others than to find faults with yourself, isn't it? And we definitely need to remove CVs because the average player is braindead. It's not like its an issue affecting all classes. No, better blame the CVs. Oh, also I guess we need to remove DDs too then. After all with their primary counter removed DDs can just rampage around with no opposition other than themselves, with skilled DDs having tremendous impact on the outcome of a match while braindead DDs cause losses far more easily than a braindead CV. Ah, but wait! Without both DDs and CVs I guess we don't need cruisers anymore either! And with the other two classes removed cruisers, too, will have too much impact on the match anyway. So we can finally reach the equality every idiot who thinks he understands game balance desires by having everyone play BBs. Beyond a hilarious joke, really. What is the big deal? I'm capable of dealing with CVs just fine when playing a DD regardless of whether they're skilled or not. It's laughably easy even once you understand their weaknesses and limitations, assuming ofc your team isn't completely retarded. And if it is I deserve to lose anyway. It's a team game. Deal with it. Seriously, the moaning and whining some DD players display regarding CVs has reached a level we're normally used to from BBabies. "WAAAAH WAAAAH I CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS, SO IT IS BROKEN AND MUST BE REMOVED!"
  21. I actually like making divs like that cry. And I tend to succeed. That said I wouldn't particularly care if you remove CVs from divisions or apply some other form of restriction. Then again I'm primarily a solo player anyway.

    Because when the problem isn't fixed the cause logically cannot be changed, either? BB overpopulation means cruisers whose role is air defense will be played less, eschewed in favor of cruisers that handle BBs better. This obviously favors CVs.

    Minotaur has approx. 270mm armor penetration at that distance. Turret side of the Yama has 250mm armor. How exactly is this supposed to be surprising? (I mean, yeah, okay, it's supposedly an overpen, but we've all learned not to trust what the game tells us, right?)
