More CV ideas, this time from an experienced CV captain.
El2aZeR replied to Sargento_YO's topic in General Discussion
Trust me when I say it won't do anything but force CVs into more passive positions. You'd need to constantly move in a circle if you want to hold a favorable position and most islands simply cannot provide adequate cover for that. And ofc all the braindead CV players will simply circle around in spawn or at the map border. -
That won't do anything. A CV can easily reach over 60% WR nowadays without having understood the basics of CV play, much less the more advanced mechanic it offers. I've had plenty of "high skill" CV players tell me they've never been counterstrafed before for example. Or simply disregarding their team completely in an attempt to farm damage. This is due to the average player being abysmally bad, allowing CVs to have much more potential influence on a match than inherently designed based on damage alone. Scouting and air control are an afterthought in their minds despite being equally, if not more important. On the other hand, a 50% WR CV player who has understood the basics of play but is mechanically less skilled is much more of a pain in the aft to deal with.

Survival rate doesn't really matter, if your sacrifice means your team wins it's a sacrifice worth making. They're fine. Main battery hit rate usually revolves around 30% even for the best players. Never seen a torp hitrate over 10% either (for those that actually play torpedo reliant ships). Spotting is dependent on the class you're playing. With CVs and DDs it is expected that you spot, so you should have higher ratings here. Some cruisers can spot depending on the situation, too, but it's hazardous to say the least. Yes and no. Statistics only show base exp, however all ships have individual base exp earning multipliers. I have no idea if Graf Spee base exp earnings are higher than average. Remember that no individual statistic is all important. It's a combination of all of them if you want to accurately assess your performance. Though as far as I can see you're steadily improving on all relevant fronts. I'd say that's a good sign. :) You could post a couple of replays here if you want more experienced players to look at them and get a second opinion.

Loved QE. Hated KGV despite apparently performing well with her. Hate Monarch despite apparently doing not bad with her either (apart from WR). There is nothing this ship is good at comparatively speaking. Playing her feels like such a chore and made me stop my grind of RN BBs for the time being. May be skipping her with free exp someday.

Currently only available on the JP server. Though judging by their skills they should be pretty good. Only thing that has changed on the CN server is that Deutschland was permanently added to the construction pool. Though if you weren't a fan of Spee you probably won't like her design either. -
(Not too far back, though. The loadouts were ridiculous at the beginning.)

Boy, no. We have noob traps in the form of captain skills already. We don't need mechanical ones, too. Don't see why this is needed, really. CVs do plenty of damage against exposed targets already (which are the only targets a CV can attack anyway). No need to overdo it. I would much rather WG rework DB usage to make them skill based. That alone would close the gap between USN and IJN in terms of raw damage potential. Forcing CV players to play more passive with their hull is a bad idea. Most CVs stupidly move themselves to the map border already. Or don't move at all. Besides, I don't see the point in terms of balance. A caught CV should have little chance to defend itself considering that it is a severe misplay. There will always be an optimal loadout with extremely small leeway as CV play in itself has very little individuality. Adjusting the fixed reserves according to that would be much better as it prevents this from becoming a potential noob trap. There is no "I prefer to play with fighters, thus I want more of them" or such. You either can play and have a sufficient number of reserves available or you don't. Nothing exists in between. Kaga e.g. is a prime example for that compared to Hiryu. Horrible air control but ludicrous strike potential, presenting a great example of everything that is currently wrong with CV play. -
I have very well outlined why you're stupid and why you're straight up lying. I have seen nothing to convince me otherwise as you have done nothing but stack lies upon lies while holding on to your stupid notions. You're just digging your grave even deeper. Also trying to say that you're not stooping down to such a level but exactly doing so just a few posts above doesn't do well for your credibility. Clearly it's also because I never meet skilled CV players in my BBs/Cruisers/DDs, too. Though for some reason they can't even begin to think about touching me most of the time. I wonder why? This argument in itself is hilarious and proves that there is only one of us being biased here. And it certainly isn't me. EDIT: Oh, look, another game in which I got around uncontested in my Fletcher. Racked up a huge exp number and won. Enemy cruisers couldn't do anything, enemy DDs displayed suicidal tendencies and I didn't even try that hard. If I had been in a T9/10 CV this game would've been straight up impossible to win due to most of my teammates being even more stupid than the enemy. In a Fletcher on the other hand? Didn't even break a sweat. The moment the last enemy DD died I knew we had won despite being in an unfavorable position and over 200 points behind.

There is no altitude control. What most people refer to alt attacks are manual drops as these use the ALT key. They become available at T6+. No, I don't. It's very simple. Waves of attacks have no effect on even single ships as planes tend to get wiped before they can even drop. You either go full force or you don't go at all. Unless ofc you're wasting DFAA on DBs, which is a horrendous misplay. Good job showing that you don't even know the basics of CV play. When your arguments are utterly crushed there is nothing left but a strategic retreat while attempting to paint your opponent in a bad light, isn't there? Thank you for solidifying my points.

High tier IJN DDs are worthless. Everything they do Fletcher can do better. High tier USN DDs are currently the best allrounders while excelling at knife fighting and team support. Fletcher is also the best torpedo DD currently in the game, combining stealthy high damage torps with a lightning fast reload. High tier Germans are the best cap contesters due to hydro. Torpedoes reload fast but do low damage. Guns are also lacking unless given the opportunity to use AP shells. High tier Russians are gunboats with limited torpedo utility. They're more often than not more akin to cruisers in playstyle.
-
Take CV spotting out of the equation and the only thing that can get dangerous is other DDs. A DD on the other hand has the freedom of movement, circling planes can easily be seen by everyone who is not blind. The amount of squadrons that are attacking quite frankly don't matter if they get wiped anyway. Managing your concealment takes next to no skill, don't kid yourself. Or you can simply utilize cover. Besides, even if it simply proves CVs have synergy with other classes. A great thing in this TEAM game, no? Which is ludicrously wrong as I previously stated. My points still stand. You're the only one who is oversimplifying the scenario and resorting to straight up lies. Yes I can. Hydro is no threat, I'll be seen long before I even get into hydro range. Likewise with proximity spotting. Oh, you can simply push a cap? How curious, you can push a cap with several ships against a CV as well. And the CV can do literally nothing about it while the DD is capable of killing every single ship you send if the situation is favorable. Thank you for making my point. If your DFAA is on cd then you've wasted it and rightfully deserve to get punished for your hilarious misplay. There is next to no skill involved in waiting a couple of seconds before using DFAA to wipe out all squads, thus the punishment for misusing it is instant unrewarding death. I see nothing wrong with it. A CV's turnaround time is far longer than the cd on DFAA. Providing teamplay for the CV. Conceptually speaking this is fine. RN BBs are a disaster anyway. Yet are representative for exactly the type of balance you people seem to want. I thought you want all classes be equal and self-sufficient? RN BBs are a step in the right direction for that. Ah, yes, so many counters. Proximity spotting - requires horrendous misplay from the DD. Or alternatively you die to close range torps. Hydro - requires horrendous misplay from DD, provides near immunity against torps but that's it Radar - requires horrendous misplay from DD, radar cruisers are also on top of the target list Other DDs - if you're sufficiently skilled (and play a relevant DD line) you'll win the fight Aircraft - the one true counter. Also the one you're trying to remove Meanwhile Stacking AA - requires next to no skill, no input from the CV whatsoever AA cruisers - requires next to no skill, no input from the CV whatsoever DFAA - correct utilization requires next to no skill, no input from the CV whatsoever Enemy fighters - if you're sufficiently skilled you'll retain at least air parity Dayum, CVs sure are overpowered when you stack up the counters. As I stated previously, any skilled DD player should have no problems killing several bad DD players on their own. And it is hardly uncommon that all DD players in a match are bad. The numbers don't even matter. Meanwhile CVs have to sacrifice planes for every attack and can at best lose all their strike planes completely 2 times before running out of them. DDs don't need to risk anything when attacking. Combined with everything above I'd say that's more than a fair trade. Says the right guy lol. You have done literally nothing but lie. Not a problem with balance. Balancing only concerns whether there are viable and effective counters available. Everything else is a player driven problem and needs to be treated as such.
-
Not as fast, true. But they have in fact far more freedom than planes. There is no magical forcefield that, at their extreme, stretch over 18km in diameter preventing them from literally doing anything. A DD spotting for their team is in many ways far worse than a CV doing it. They don't have to risk their extremely limited resources with every attack, either. You don't see DD torpedoes incoming from 8km away either, nor can you nullify their effects as easily as you can with aircraft. Also even those with the longest reload can launch several spreads in the time it takes a CV to launch one strike. Remember the whole "damage potential is balanced around the individual weapon and not in relation to each other" stuff? I would hardly call pushing a button or utilizing cover a significant risk. Seriously, have you even played DDs? Actually a valid point for once. Considering there is an overabundance of hydro in the game nowadays aircraft indeed shouldn't be able to spot torps. Again with the "over the whole map" thing despite that it is ludicrously wrong. Also DDs are far more invulnerable than CVs will ever be in an environment without CVs to spot them. Literally all it takes to shut down a cap zone for a CV is one AA cruiser. Likewise with large swaths of the map. That you even believe a CV can simply fly around all over the map uncontested is stupid beyond comprehension. On the other hand, a DD can sit and camp a spot indefinitely with the only danger being enemy radar cruisers and other DDs. And radar cruisers are hardly a big threat if you know how to handle them. Besides, if AA cruisers aren't a counter to CVs then I guess radar cruisers cannot be counted as one for DDs either. True, DDs when unchecked are far worse than an unchecked CV. In fact, bad DDs lose games much faster than a bad CV player. Yet for some reason all whine about them is being frowned upon, even ridiculed (and rightfully so), but when it comes to CVs many of those who do so adopt the same behavior. If the DDs on the enemy team are stupid (which is hardly a rare occurance) I have no problems killing them all on my own. Been there, done that. It's ludicrously easy once you understand how DDs play. Like countering CVs is ludicrously easy once you understand how they play.

rant ( when *edited* make a devision ) CV topic
El2aZeR replied to wot_chikor's topic in General Discussion
Ladies and Gents, we have officially reached the point where even pushing ONE button to instantly win is too difficult for the average player. -
What are you even talking about? Except for using the mouse wheel to zoom (which is standard in all games with a top down view, really) I've never even heard of such options, much less used them. Really, how the UI is conceptualized is fine. It only fails because it has ludicrous delay and plenty of bugs. Remove auto drop, nerf air dropped torp damage on low tiers, normalize AA. Boom, problem solved. Well, except for passive BB play, but that will always exist until you start punishing them economically. CVs have no effect on that at all as proven by all the games with no CVs in them. With nerfed air dropped torp damage and AA normalized I don't think this will continue being an issue, but it's certainly a way to nerf low tier CVs further if needed. Honestly, mid tier CVs are underpowered actually, mostly because of their abysmal MM all mid tier ships suffer from coupled with abysmal reserves. With their damage potential nerfed to appropriate levels and AA normalized I'd increase the reserves of T5 & 6 CVs by ~12 planes. The longer you circle the more losses you take. Circling around already has severe consequences against all but the most overextended ships. And you can hardly tell me that someone who plays bad should have a chance of avoiding retribution for it. ...you've just described manual drop? Dunno where you're going with this. What's high/low settings for bombers supposed to accomplish? Honestly I don't believe CVs need dedicated scouts. The only ones to benefit from this are low tier CVs which don't have many squads (which to be fair is a good point) and USN CVs up to T8 which need further loadout adjustment anyway. In the interest of balance and not introducing more noob traps, please no. Sounds interesting, but it should also be noted that all CV loadouts nowadays have fighters available and thankfully so. We should not revert what was a great change for once. You do realize by removing CVs you'd simply be piling all their influence on DDs instead? Yet for some reason I don't see you screaming for a nerf for DDs. Also really? Stats again? Is that all you can do? If we were solely interested in preserving our stats we would've demanded precisely the kind of stuff WG has done to CVs over the years, all of which has earned nothing but our scorn. Really, that you're even bringing this up is pathetic beyond belief.

I'd call Zao a logical continuation. You're still a superb long range HE spammer.

Nah, we're still waiting.

Which is precisely the advantage a good CV player should be allowed to grant considering it's a thankless, unrewarding job and he has literally zero inherent damage potential. The enemy team played smart around their advantage thus thoroughly deserved to win. It's a great display of teamplay in this team game, something far too rare nowadays.
-
It is oh so easy to simply blame the CV for your loss, isn't it? Even when there are plenty of things that lose games a lot faster than a bad CV. Besides, CVs are fundamentally ONLY capable of capitalizing on the mistakes of the enemy or on the opportunities their teammates give them. If a CV dominates you in a game that usually means your team is incredibly bad and/or the enemy team very good. Either way the chances of winning that match were slim to begin with regardless of CV presence and the CV in question deserves to rack up scores of damage and kills. A good CV gives the team the spotting advantage. That is not insubstantial but can be overcome especially in the context of random battles as there spotting has diminished value than in more competitive gamemodes. Literally everything else is handed to the CV on a silver platter. So yeah, CVs doing as well as they are is nothing but an indicator that the average player is braindead. Nothing more, nothing less. I, too, am rather [edited] off at the moment because I've lost plenty of games in the past few days in my CVs due to my teammates being retarded despite shutting down the enemy CV completely. Seeing people then whining about "lol good CV = auto win" is beyond an insult. It is admitting that you've found nothing wrong with your or the play of your team despite the fact that CVs can only exploit mistakes, instead choosing to moan and whine about the mechanic punishing you with the unrewarding and instant death you deserve. The mentality everyone seems to despise when talking about every other class but when it comes to CVs the majority suddenly does a 180 and adopts it instead. "Torpedoes? Oh, just use WASD hax!" "AP shells? Just angle!" "Aircraft? OMG I CAN'T DO ANYTHING SO BROKEN NERF PLS!!1111" The mental capacity of a BBaby.

Nope. Haven't caused any detonations either. Try sacrificing a goat to RNGesus. -
Not much you can do in a Lex tbh. I simply exploited the unique advantage Enterprise has with both DBs and TBs being threats you cannot ignore. Literally nothing you can do against that with only a single fighter. It's a bit easier against a Shokaku as you'll only need to worry about the TBs. Still, having only a single fighter T7+ really is far too restricting. No obvious flaws that stood out to me tbh, but there wasn't much interaction between us anyway as your team crumbled way too fast.

Indeed torpedo fuses are time, not range based for air dropped ones. That means if you take the TA skill you'll need to drop further away than without it.

El2aZeR replied to Hiro_016's topic in General Discussion
Uhm, your winrate in the Kaga is actually fairly okay at 64%? You're not close to breaking any records but that doesn't mean it's bad. You'll always lose in CVs if your team is braindead. Doesn't matter what CV you're captaining. Your DDs go suicide in cap? Your BBs are camping behind you? Or anything else that loses a match faster than a bad CV? Yeah, nothing you can do about that. Best you can hope for is that the enemy team is even more braindead than yours. That said, like the others have told you CV sniping is more often than not a waste of time. If your enemy is good he won't let himself be sniped in the first place. If he's bad then you'll earn a lot more income by simply killing his planes. Either way attempting a snipe is of no benefit to you. Go try to support your DDs at the beginning of the match instead by scouting and killing off enemy DDs and other high priority targets such as radar equipped cruisers (in fact personally I rate the Belfast in particular as a higher priority target than even DDs). Considering you're captaining a Kaga you can even afford to sacrifice a few strike planes doing so considering your ridiculous reserves (don't overdo it, though).
