Actually that was for Monty, Iowa and Mo only. NC either always had a lowered citadel or she had hers lowered very early after USN BBs got released in CBT. Personally the worst ship I ever had to play was the Myogi, closely followed by pre-buff Colorado (though I imagine she's not much better off nowadays considering she got powercreeped hard).

Just played a game in my Haku. Completely dismantled the enemy Midway with a total of 8 fighters lost (and he was a guy who knew how to strafe and such), half of which I accidentally strafed myself while killing 71 aircraft. Got 7 kills on top (though a couple of them were... "secured" ). My deck was a flurry of activity, not a single dull moment as planes were either scouting, striking, being recovered or launching. With my Midway on the other hand recovery, service and launch of just one type of aircraft takes a minute and a half or so. And RNGesus forbid I lose a squadron. It's like I'm doing nothing but staring at timers for over half a match. I don't know what to think at this point. I'll hold off on my final judgement for a couple of more games but tbh I don't think my opinion of the Midway will improve much.

I honestly doubt that considering I'm having issues with her fundamental limitations. I mean, Midway certainly isn't bad but I wouldn't exactly call her overpowered either.

CV stats ( Hakuryu vs Miway ) in randoms

Yes I can. Midway is easier to play than Haku, having larger reserves and less squads. Auto dropping with USN DBs tends to give better results than with IJN ones, needing less micromanagement. Longer service times also means she has more downtime while Haku is a lot more frantic in playstyle. Midway is far more noob-friendly and forgiving to play than Haku will ever be despite her T8 TBs. She also has novelty on her side as she's "new and shiny". And ofc prominent players saying she's overpowered, so everyone has got to have her. See, this is precisely what you do NOT want to do. It's NOT a good tactic, it's a horrible waste of both your strike craft and fighters no matter how much damage you do. You want to wipe out all of his fighters with minimal losses to your own, not trade one for one. (also I'm pretty sure you wanted to quote Fubucky and not me) If I was able to not only win against some of the best CV players (read: those that participate and go deep in tournaments) playing their AS Midway in a division but completely wipe them out in my Haku, you can win against a 2/2/2 Midway. The point is to wait for an opening, not allowing for any of your planes to get wiped by enemy fighters. Midway gets an edge in air control and larger reserves. Haku gets much better strike potential and scouting capability. I'd say that's a fair trade. @Systergummi Aww, cute. You're probably thinking I just want to preserve how "op" Midway is for my own advantage, eh? Despite, you know, that I've never even played a single game in a Midway before today and would routinely wipe them out in my Haku. And still do. -
Pensa is the ultimate test, really. You need to manage cover, concealment and shell choice in a correct manner to be successful. Your AA is below [edited] so appropriate utilization of DFAA is key. You have no gimmicks whatsoever as backup. And ofc make one mistake and it's usually your last. Master the Pensa and you've mastered cruiser play. Everything learned here will help you excel not only in subsequent US cruisers but all other cruiser lines as well.

Hardly. See, if you understand the basics of CV play then the least you can do against an equally skilled or even better CV player is to achieve air parity by using your fighters as the defensive tool they were meant to be. In an air parity scenario scouting information wins, as a Haku you have the freedom to use your DBs as your primary scouts without compromising air cover or strike capability because for the most part the damage potential of your DBs is negligible. Midway on the other hand doesn't really want to do that because USN DBs are an integral part of your strike capability. You already have to deal with T8 TBs being prone to get wiped even by a head on strafe and ludicrous service times, the last thing you want to do is to send your DBs on scouting runs only to discover that a potential target has turned up. If you do however give up your DBs to scout then it will depend on how often a target opens up for either of you, with Haku being in a better position to exploit potential openings by virtue of having T10 TBs. So yeah, Haku actually maintains a pretty good advantage if you don't senselessly waste your fighters. Ofc success will also be largely dependent on your team, but hey, that's just the nature of this game. I just unlocked the Midway. Her only upsides are her ludicrous reserves and fighters. Her TBs are still far too flimsy, her DBs still too reliant on RNG and ofc she has the stupidly long USN service times, only these are exacerbated even further by having one more squad to service and launch. To say I'm not impressed so far is an understatement as I found myself wishing numerous times to be a Haku. I initially had nothing against bumping down her fighters from T10 to T9, but now I wonder what Midway has left to give if you do so. -
Maybe this is WG's way of nerfing divs. Make creating and maintaining them so finicky that most people won't bother doing so.
-
Take DFAA. Not only does it allow you to support your team but in games without CVs you're also capable of denying catapult plane spotting. Either way DFAA is invaluable.

+1 totally agreed

Tbh I found the T8 fighters to be more than serviceable. Essex currently holds my record for most planes shot down on average in a tech tree CV, being in second place overall at 41, surpassing even my waifu Enterprise and closing in on my Saipan. Service times along with the long strafe pathing are really my only gripe with the Essex. She could maybe use another DB squad, too. EDIT: So, I unlocked the Midway. Tbh I don't know what the big deal is. I have caught myself numerous times wishing to be a Haku as her TBs are still flimsy as all out and her service times are even more horrible as you now have one more squad to service and launch. Only upsides are her fighters which just murder everything even in a head on pass and ofc her ludicrous reserves but that's nothing I wouldn't be able to work around as I have in the past. Midway hardly strikes me as overpowered, if I had to choose I'd take my Haku out instead any day. I'll play a couple of more games but so far I'm not impressed.

Did you even read? I'm not saying Midway doesn't have the advantage, which she does (and imo rightfully so considering Haku gets the advantage in strike capability), but all the advantages in the world are for naught if your decision making skills and your fighter micro are on point. If you find yourself constantly losing air superiority then the fault lies with you, not the Midway. Your point is? They still take ages to service, thus higher alpha is more than justified. IJN DBs are also much more reliable. -
It's funny how many people still believe sigma = accuracy when it has been explained half a year ago that sigma is essentially better RNG. Source: https://thearmoredpatrol.com/2017/06/15/wows-qa-15th-june-2017/

Air control is largely dependent on skill and not the ship. If you need to exit strafe in an unfavorable situation you've already done something wrong. In the long run this matters little if you are able to maintain air control and trade favorably. Or at least maintain air parity. If you cannot even do that, you're doing something wrong. His TBs are much more squishy nowadays to the point where I can wipe them out in a Fletcher without having to spec full AA. You also have much faster turnaround times, so in a straight up damage race Haku wins. If you haven't noticed AP bombs are worthless against anything but FdG/Bismarck/Tirpitz in terms of BBs. They can oneshot most T10 cruisers but those will usually wipe them out before they can drop anyway. 1000lb HE bombs hurt hard if they get lucky but they too have huge turnaround times and are excessively reliant on RNG. As for your shiny little emblem, to say that I wasn't particularly impressed by your play every time I had to go up against you is an understatement. -
TA is needed to kill DDs. You need to maximize your chances of getting at least one, if not two hits considering you only have one squad until Midway. ERG is worthless in all aspects because you can simply bypass the catapult fighter entirely if you time your approach right. If you have another squad following up you can just stick around with the squad that's getting attacked as the fighter won't change target.

I know I'm late to the party, but Yorck was a horrible experience imo even if I did rather well in her apparently. A straight up downgrade from the Nürnberg in almost every aspect. Even playing pre-buff Pensa was more enjoyable. I powered through the grind with camo and flags and I can only recommend anyone to do the same if they're unwilling to skip her with free exp. Hipper on the other hand I found thoroughly enjoyable despite all the negative opinions she seems to get. She's just the right blend of range, maneuverability, concealment, speed and firepower to be workable even when up-tiered. HE power is a bit lacking but AP shells hit like a truck if you get the chance to use them (as is usual with the Germans). Not to mention 27mm armor all over allows you to troll and yolo rush BBs with 380mm guns or less (which is especially important due to the popularity of Bismarck/Tirpitz in random). Also she has good AA, a rarity among tech tree cruisers below T9 (while picking KM hydro is tempting for obvious reasons, as someone with extensive CV play experience I never leave port without DFAA in my cruisers if it is available). She's a solid performer if a bit uninspiring perhaps. Maybe she could use a small buff but she's perfectly serviceable in random battles as she is right now.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
El2aZeR replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Uh... Is this Is this supposed to happen? -
Actually this is untrue. The chance of shooting down a plane starts off low and rises over time until it hits a cap of 90%, derived by the number of ticks (1 tick = 140ms) a plane will on average survive in an AA bubble which is calculated via plane survivability against AA DPS in some way. Based on whether a plane was shot down early or late a survivability buff/nerf will also get applied respectively. That means you're pretty much guaranteed to shoot down a plane over a period of time regardless of how bad your AA is. Or wipe entire strikes in short order if you have enough of it. Uhm, actually we do. It's possible to detach the camera from your ship, though I forgot the shortcut to do so. Tbh I still don't understand what your quarrel is with the map. Most of the controls are designed according to industry standard for RTS games and thus in my eyes fine, only let down by the issues I have stated previously. Could just be the difference in experience with RTS games between us, though. The problem here is that, why are you alone? Defending a cap on your own against a superior force is suicidal at best. Though I can understand at least that AA cruisers in the tiers you quoted are basically non-existent, which is another problem that needs to be addressed. Personally I would also nerf plane survivability for low tier CVs as giving all those ships fantasy refits for more AA would be a lengthy and unpopular process. The spawn points in question are bad regardless of CV presence. They should really be fixed asap. Yes. That's basically manual drop. Have you never used it before or am I missing something? Considering you always want to attack exposed targets anyway the high altitude attack would be kinda redundant, don't you think? Though really, DBs should be skill based and not the RNG-fest they are now. A simple system where the earlier you lock in the more accurate the drop is gonna be would suffice. Fair point. Though I have to wonder if this won't exacerbate the spotting situation. Dedicated scout planes would need extremely careful balancing despite being a rather simple mechanic. Personally I believe this is rather redundant right now. There are far more important things to address than national flavor, but once that is done, sure, why not. Though I'm still vehemently against both strafing ships and Kamikaze attacks. Those would be an utter waste of fighter capability and strike reserves respectively, aka noob traps.

Clearly, when I am capable of trashing CV players it translates into the entire enemy team. Ah, yes, because clearly all of my suggestions so far will benefit only me and my precious statistics. The actual truth is that you have nothing else to throw at me but your pathetic accusations. And the even more funny thing is that I'm fighting precisely against being even more influential in CVs by opposing your idea to have more CVs in a match. If I wanted my stats to soar I would support you instead.
-
And everyone does. Just not in equal measures which again is fine in an asymmetric balancing system. Clearly why I have a 100% WR. Oh wait. Has it perhaps ever occurred to you that I win so often precisely BECAUSE I play to benefit my teammates? Really, you're beyond a joke if you honestly believe any ship class can simply win a game on their own.
-
My record of 89 planes shot down in my Hiryu was against two AS Rangers, both of which could strafe and tried to coordinate. My teammate meanwhile was afk. And that was in a time when strafing out didn't exist. So with an inferior platform in terms of both quantity and quality I have utterly, resoundingly trashed two fairly seasoned players attempting to work together in a time when game mechanics even favored the opposing side. So yeah, if I have an even playing field in terms of quality and the advantage in mechanics I strongly believe I could easily take on 3-4 and win. Maybe even 5. Why? Because having more than 2 fighter squadrons is a waste as I outlined above. And every CV more is a surface ship less I have to deal with, translating into less AA cover I need to worry about. Which you apparently perceive as a problem. Newsflash: This game employs an asymmetric balancing system, it was bound to have ship classes that are more influential than others. Clearly why I push for solving BB overpopulation, introducing more cruisers and thus making CV play harder, and the normalization of AA, also making CV play harder due to for the most part removing the need to make a dedicated AA build. That will surely benefit my oh so precious statistics. As I stated above, that you believe making CVs easier to play will solve anything is a fundamental failure to understand wherein the problem lies in the skill gap of CV play. Even most 60%+ WR CV players are trash because they have failed to grasp the basics of CV play. It is a problem of communication and not one of mechanics, exacerbated by the current meta.
-
Increase player count per team to 32. No other way to do so without compromising the inherent design requirements. That you even believe this is the way to balance CVs is a complete and utter failure of understanding both CV play and game design. Here's the news for you: I would have no issues trashing 3-4 bad CV players alone. It'd be even easier than trashing 3-4 bad DDs in one of my own. CVs scale incredibly bad with numbers in terms of air control to the point where having more than two fighter squads in a random scenario is a waste.
-
Which is representative of how bad you are. Clearly, playing for the enjoyment is impossible when divisioning with a CV. Because making CV play easier will not improve anything, but then again I do not expect someone as biased as you to understand that. Having to consistently deal with one worthless player in every match is a huge handicap for a CV, but I don't expect you to understand that either.
