Especially with 3 no fly zones, a DFAA DD and a radar ship to work with. But sure, sit back and give the enemy team all the advantages while you fall further and further behind. That's the better option, eh?

Finally a US battleship with longer range secondaries
El2aZeR replied to darkstar73's topic in General Discussion
High tier USN BBs are about stealth, AA and mid range accuracy. Their inherent playstyle makes their secondaries, which are notoriously bad anyway, redundant. 1.7 sigma on the other hand is going to hurt. A lot. Maybe they're going to unshaft her secondaries, though. The equivalent of two Fletchers strapped to each side would be an extremely funny sight in combat. -
Meh, I use 2/3/2 with Haku. Extra DB isn't worth losing almost a squad of fighter reserves imo. And with the upcoming Midway nerf that'll put you almost two fighter squads ahead of anyone stupid enough to still play Midway.

And as a good CV player as well as one who plays every other class I know how easy it is to lock a CV out of a game, especially in high tiers where almost every ship can be turned into a no fly zone. Again, to only blame your CV is hilarious at best. If your team does not make the effort to ward against strikes nor to put pressure on the enemy CV then that's the team's fault, not your CV's. CVs are the most effective class primarily because the average player is EDIT.
-
Because obviously just existing will farm you dozens of plane kills. You don't have to bother with positioning at all! Really, to blame OPs loss on only his CV is hilarious at best.
-
Try all classes and see what fits. Though if you want to try CVs please note that low tier CVs are shafted, true CV play doesn't begin until T6. USN DDs ironically become much more powerful torpedo boats than IJN ones later on. I'd say stick with USN. Russian DDs focus almost exclusively on guns, you basically play them as a hyper mobile squishy cruiser. German DDs are kinda like USN ones except their gun power is weaker but their torpedoes can be fired from stealth much earlier (albeit have low alpha, compensated by a fast reload). Welcome to the world of WG, where progression doesn't make sense. Aside from a few exceptions AA doesn't become truly capable of denying strikes until high tier. However those exceptions and high tier AA ships become complete no fly zones that can deny a quarter of a smaller map and easily shred waves and waves upon planes on their own. Identify these ships and stick with them. If they aren't available stacking AA with a couple of other teammates can also easily deny strikes. BUT in low tiers AA is practically non-existent, so it barely matters how much AA you stack with others. This is compensated by low tier CVs being incapable of alt attacks, having to use automatic drops instead which are notoriously easy to dodge. This is why true CV play doesn't begin until T6 where alt attacks are enabled. As a general tip tho: Turn your bow towards torpedo planes as soon as they appear on the horizon. Don't wait until they've dropped, it'll be far too late then.

Meanwhile... "CVs so op can only be defeated by a single well positioned AA cruiser pls nerf"

My few cents on World of Warships - New player constructive criticism
El2aZeR replied to anonym_vUfpz4M3loBv's topic in General Discussion
If you sail in a straight line for long periods of time you deserve to get killed by torpedoes. Also planes are spotted from 8km away. It is literally impossible for them to surprise you. You can also deny their strike 100% by seeking friendly AA cover. Or just playing an AA ship yourself. Literally everything about your post screams that you're inexperienced, but instead of putting effort into gitting gud you come here and whine. -
Yay, another skill you need as a cruiser just to exist, detracting from the versatility and utility cruisers are supposed to have.

Well, making children does have its pay offs. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Even if most of them aren't particularly short term. On the other hand if you make camping and damage farming economically unfeasible you'll simply become incapable of sustaining such a playstyle above a certain tier. There are no pay offs to be had here. You'll either learn to play for the benefit of your team or you eventually become unable to play the game through economic loss. Thus even if someone wants to be an egoistic and play only for the rewards he'll have to play for the benefit of his team. Right now that certainly isn't the case.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
El2aZeR replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
If it's something "completely unexpected" I'd guess you'll have to steer strike planes manually in chase cam with fighters being completely automated. Can't exactly see how this'll be fun though considering you'll be flying against automated AA. I honestly doubt everything will be completely automated as that'd make gameplay extremely boring. -
Source: https://worldofwargamingnews.wordpress.com/2016/03/19/ein-weiteres-qa-von-wargaming-19-03/ Original: Though to be fair that particular Q&A is over two years old, many things have changed since then.

I gotcha covered. Though really, we need a new one since most of these have been addressed already. In fact I think the only things that haven't been ticked are "limited torps" and "more overpen damage". You're lying. If you are bottom tier four times in a row you're GUARANTEED to be top tier in your next game. Although please note that some tiers have much more favorable MM than others (particularly T7) due to low tiers having protected +/-1 MM. E.g. according to WG statistics T8 is top tier only ~30% of the time in EU. Also: - cruisers could hurt battleships. If this game were more realistic you'd be a lot more vulnerable - battleships (and ships in general) are far more accurate in this game than they were in real life. This is primarily due to ships in this game being over twice the size than they actually were. If this game were more realistic you'd be missing a lot more often - ships burned when hit. A lot. There were and still are a ton of things on a warship that are extremely flammable. The metaphor of your ship "being made out of firewood" is actually fairly accurate - shells ricochet if their tips fail to bury into a plate. The penetrative force of such a hit is practically nonexistent. There is a video out there of a modern artillery shell bouncing off the roof of a normal car due to the extreme angle. That isn't laughable, that's physics - battleships are plenty powerful right now, even too powerful in some aspects
-
There are plenty of things that could've been done, starting with battle rewards not being focused primarily on damage. If you have an economy system that makes people grind to progress then that's the first thing you look at when you want to en- or discourage certain playstyles. By making e.g. camping and pure damage farming economically unfeasible it will eventually become something that is rarely done. But alas, those are things that WG had to do much, much earlier in development. It's far too late now.

Actually untrue. Game design principles have evolved way past that a long, long time ago. Even the oldest video games make losing to be thoroughly unfun to impart a learning experience on the player and eventually make him succeed. Can you honestly say you're having fun when you lose your last life in Mario and get to face the Game Over screen? Thought so. Games provide fun with interaction. And when you have to interact with other people and compete against them, games stop being all sunshine and rainbows but instead become a competition. And inevitably these people, be they a teammate or an enemy, can become the very thing that keep you from succeeding and make your game unfun. That is the nature of every PvP game out there, be it chess, hockey, basketball, etc. etc. etc. or the video games we all know and love. And in a competition the loser always has less fun than the winner. Which brings me to my second point: When someone plays a team game such as, say, soccer in a way that is practically sabotage, they get kicked out of the team even if the setting in which the game is played is casual to the extreme (e.g. in a school yard). The truth of games like these is that no, people do not get to have fun "in whatever way, shape or form they feel most comfy in" because others have to deal with their unwillingness to succeed. They are that one classmate that contributes literally nothing to a group project but potentially gets a good grade anyway. The one that everyone despises. Except in WoWs you cannot even tell the authorities because not only does WG not care but the current reward system actively encourages egocentric play. Also I guess from your perspective using cheats is fine too then? Remember when your teachers said that "participating is everything" during a sports festival for example? Well, they lied out of their . Just because you're participating doesn't mean that you're entitled to have fun in whatever way you want. There are rules to abide to in PvP games both written and unwritten. That applies to literally all games out there be they a recognized Olympic sport or "just" people duking it out on a virtual battlefield. The very notion that everyone should have fun under every circumstance is laughable to the extreme.

Nope, I can still select it in the settings. Maybe it only plays it for PA ships that are actually Chinese? Then again Longjiang was supposed to be a Chinese ship.

Bottom tier game, doing few stuff and still number 1 in XP

Steps are being made - Matchmaking !!! Still needs work.
El2aZeR replied to Hammerald's topic in General Discussion
But that defeats the purpose of the entire system, doesn't it? After all what will prevent me from simply farming my way to a "high rank" in cruisers by simply clubbing seals in a Black Swan? And on that same note surely you do not expect me to wait a ridiculously long time in queue just so I can play my Kongo just because I am pretty good at handling my NC? Or any of my CVs? Or put me in a high ranked match I have no place in with my Shimakaze because I'm good with a Gearing? Besides, it doesn't change the fact that average exp is primarily calculated with dumb damage farming, with everything else such as spotting giving extremely pitiful, thus negligible returns despite having much more potential impact on a match. Face it, skill based MM doesn't work with WoWs due to extremely low player numbers and uneven distribution of the population in both numbers and skill across classes UNLESS you build in large tolerances, which makes skill based MM kinda redundant. For example if you make your system expand its search across ranks when a certain time has passed it'll inevitably match me against someone of inferior skill level in a CV, which has a large likelihood to happen nowadays anyway with the only difference being that I don't need to wait in queue for very long. On the other hand if you hardcode it so as to make this impossible you're effectively preventing me from playing any CV or in low tiers since someone else of equal skill level queuing at the same time as me is going to be a rare occurrence to say the least, especially considering high ranked players will most likely not even bother to queue anymore as they do not want to waste their time, culling the available population even further. And regardless of how you decide to implement it, what about divisions? If I queue up with two other high ranked players playing non-popular classes/tiers, the chances of meeting equally skilled players will be even lower as MM will already have trouble finding one other high ranked player, let alone three. So again you'll either give us a pretty effective means of ensuring that we will rarely meet equally skilled opposition or you'll just prevent us from playing entirely. That doesn't even go to mention playing in a time of the day when the population is low. Or the differences in potential game impact of different nations within a class. This is a concept bound for failure no matter how you twist it.- 78 replies

Leaked Images For Two New IJN Destroyers!
El2aZeR replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
Well, that I can answer from the receiving side. Akizuki AA is either okay-ish or extremely brutal depending on how many skills and upgrades you decide to take. Full AA she is untouchable by same/lower tier CVs and a difficult target to pursue even in higher tier ones, but if you only take e.g. BFT you will still get crippled or outright killed against a same tier CV unless he thoroughly overstays his welcome. -
