I'm on Kanoya Airfield. Probably going to blow most of the resources I accumulated for summer and Bismarck LSC on trying to get at least one catapult. T_T Also Glorious Event is back in AL again. -
[PSA] Basic guide when you have CV in battle
El2aZeR replied to Boris_MNE's topic in General Discussion
See, this is one of the premier reasons I like playing CVs. If one of my teammates gives me I can just let him die. No need for tk'ing when the enemy does the work for you. -
And this is why while CV play is actually incredibly easy compared to contemporary RTS games, it's also the worst RTS to ever start with. Literally nothing is explained to you. There's this thing called the minimap. You can left click on it to move your screen around and even give squadrons orders via right click (assuming you're using the alt control scheme). Using the big map is a waste of time imo and personally I've never done it. Actually it means something is perfectly fine in the context of a PvP game. If "git gud" were the only problem with CV play then there'd be no need to rework it. You're basically saying that you should be able to compete with an Olympic athlete with all effort given. Well, guess what, this isn't Equality Simulator 2015. By its very nature WoWs is, just like any other PvP game, a competition. If you do not possess the spirit to play in that manner or don't want to put as much effort into it as your opponent, you deserve to lose. Don't expect the game to conform to your lousy mindset.

Got the 2nd deck catapult quest done. Jesus, that was a slog. Totally forgot that I don't have a blueprint tho so I can't K2 Shokaku yet. T_T So, how's the mini-event going for everyone? Being able to get 3 deck catapults kinda has me worried. Not even sure if I can even get one, especially considering I don't have any Canned Mackerel to start with. Will have to quest to get some. On the other hand since it's basically confirmed we'll get a Fletcher in summer maybe this is a sign that they'll introduce Intrepid K2 already. Btw asking again, should we apply for a server transfer so we'll all play on the same one? May prove useful in the future. -
Before strafing fighters were completely, utterly worthless. Literally worthless. Strafing was added to make fighters actually do something. Also strafing is not APM intensive (and neither is CV play in general). You literally only need to click once to strafe while holding down the alt key. If you think strafing is difficult then boy do I have bad news for you, especially considering manual drop is harder in terms of skill (albeit marginally). AND it's so easily countered (by, you know, just moving out of the way) that I honestly question how people can get absolutely destroyed even when they know what strafing is. But then I remember that the average player struggles to even WASD and suddenly I'm not surprised anymore.

Mandatory across all tiers. How's this even a question?

Depends on what genres you like, really. Though off the top of my head: - Cowboy Bebop (think Firefly or Guardians of the Galaxy) - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (there are two versions, if you only want to watch one I'd recommend Brotherhood as it follows the original mange storyline but then again I love the manga so I'm biased) - Black Lagoon (GUNS) - Jormungand (MOAR GUNS) - Log Horizon (if you like to play MMORPGs or have done so in the past) - Your Name. (movie) There's also this flowchart if you want more: https://imgur.com/q9Xjv4p -
Huh, can connect now. Was probably just something on my end.

Official website too is loading really slow. Forum is fine on the other hand. Anyone else having problems or is it just me?

Yes, it's locked.

Dunno tbh. I thought it is well known that bow/stern hits drastically reduce damage since... well, always as far as I remember. The only thing you should keep in mind is flooding. Nevermind then. Are you serious? Check your first screenshot. Yugumo is clearly visible on the minimap at 16:00. Torps don't appear until 15:20. You had at least ~40 seconds to react.

Penetrating the upper belt will cause you to miss the citadel entirely unless you have an angle that's literally above 45°. As far as I'm aware no ship in the game carries mortars.

Regardless your shells would've been incapable of penetrating the turtleback armor at such a distance anyway (Gneisenau shells have ~380mm penetration at 20km). Thus the only plausible explanation is this:

That's not how it works. Normalization works against you in this case. In a simple picture: So to penetrate the turtleback, you need to not only be sufficiently far enough away so that the shell doesn't simply bounce off the turtleback, you need to overcome your own normalization as well. For a BB shell that adds another 6° to your 10-13° angle of fall. And if we then check what distance is needed to achieve that with, for example, an Iowa/Montana on navweaps, you'll get a range of approx. 20km. At that point a shell from an Iowa/Montana (~440mm penetration at 20km) is utterly incapable of penetrating the belt (320mm) + turtleback (120mm) + citadel bulkhead (45mm) of a Bismarck. So yeah, KM BBs are immune to citadel hits at any distance unless you use one of the methods previously described. The best you'll ever get is penetration damage Please refer to previous methods of getting a citadel against a KM BB. Even at close to full broadside it is possible (although improbable) to hit the citadel through the bow/aft directly. And ofc if he's turning towards you your shells can simply slip below the turtleback.

It's not official art. It's a fanbook called "Pacific", illustrated by Jeanex. Quite old, too. Some examples: I like Pacific Iowa better than KC Iowa tbh. Though AL E is better than Pacific E. -
There are two ways to citadel KM BBs: 1. Shoot at the waterline when said KM BB is broadside and turning towards you. This allows your shells to bypass the turtleback/main belt armor and hit the citadel directly. 2. Shoot through the bow/aft utilizing a small gap between the turtleback and the citadel. Needs a very specific angle and a lot of luck. Distance has nothing to do with it. A broadside sitting still KM BB is impossible to citadel regardless of distance.

If you just check the armor model of the Lyon, you'd see that you took 2 midship torp hits directly to your torp bulge, inflicting citadel damage. The aft section doesn't start until way past your aft turret. Damage calculation is thus entirely correct and not contrary to what I've demonstrated in the slightest. And science agrees: Also did you really survive that torp strike?

Wanna know how I got good at playing CVs? I played ~600 games in my Hiryu before moving up to Shokaku. So yeah, you're on the right path. Best of luck to you.

Clearly a case for the x-files. Where is SkybuckFlying when you need him?

How do you like new Match Making (MM) engine introduced with v0.7.4 ?
El2aZeR replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
And how exactly does this improve CV MM when you can literally get unicum stats just by knowing what the alt key does since almost everyone, not just CVs, is braindead? -
Tbh I would much prefer queuing for 2 minutes and getting an enjoyable game rather than queuing for 2 seconds and being in a match where almost everyone is a braindead potato. Besides, that's incredibly ironic considering this is precisely the treatment every other class has gotten for the past 3 years and counting. "HE SPAM OP, CRUISER PLAYERS SHUT UP!" "TORPS OP, DDS JUST WANT TO KEEP BEING OP!" "OMG SKY CANCER JUST REMOVE THEM!" Sound familiar perhaps? I'm a CV player, I deal with like this almost every time I click that battle button. Sure, but do you honestly believe I have fun watching the enemy team just crumble away within the first five minutes? Or, on the off chance that my opponents aren't braindead, my team falling apart due to their own stupidity with nothing I can do regardless of what class I play or how well I play it? The game has come to a point where I actually need to increase the difficulty for myself in order to enjoy it. It's e.g. why I prefer my Enterprise over every other high tier CV I have sitting in port. With her low strike reserves and wonky TB pattern I actually need to watch which targets I pick and how to strike it because my enemies certainly won't be making it difficult for me in 99 out of 100 cases. Don't particularly care about my fighter advantage as I can count the players I've met that actually challenged me for air superiority on one hand, everyone else is either a braindead alt abusing unicum or a braindead clicking tomato, both of which I will crush with little effort anyway. (Why am I not playing Ranger, Lex or Essex then? Because while I enjoy a challenge, I much prefer not to be at an unrecoverable disadvantage immediately just because WG is incompetent when it comes to CVs.) I mean, I could just play Saipan all day but there is no challenge, thus no fun in it. Or I can sail out in my Atlanta and have a jolly good time if I can succeed in making her work.

That's not the bow. That's the bow + hull HP. The bow itself only has ~3k HP (derived from first torp hit damage - subsequent torp hit damage). If I were to continue dealing damage to that particular Monarch in the gif any subsequent hit to any section will only deal as much damage as that section has HP left. E.g. if I were to torp the stern after I've saturated the bow + the hull, I would only deal about 4k damage. Fairly recent video explained how HP is distributed and subtracted. I suggest you go watch it: Yeah, I know, big shocker, WG actually told us how something works. It's the guys you are arguing against. Yes, the forum is here to exchange opinions and viewpoints. And yes, some viewpoints can and should be discarded because they do not demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the game mechanics at hand. You can ofc still express them but be prepared to get ridiculed for it. Torpedoes are easily dodged and therefore a negligible threat, BBs that say torps deter them from pushing most likely have no intention to do any pushing in the first place. If they do actually want to push they should go learn how to deal with torpedoes, because again it is easily done. Just like with how BBs complain about how massive HE spam prevents them from pushing. Or CVs. (Ofc running straight into a crossfire of several DDs is just straight up stupid and yes, torps do prevent a BB from pushing in this case, but most BBs will refuse to push even in favorable circumstances.) And yes, I've seen where this leads to. WoWs is the prime example of where this leads to. WG has consistently catered to the whining of BB players while ignoring the voices of people that actually know how to play the game, giving the worst of the worst everything imaginable to enable them to push. HE nerfed to the ground, fire chance decreased, torps nerfed, CVs nerfed so hard they never recovered, BB survivability increased massively, BB accuracy at mid range increased, BB concealment improved, BB secondaries made ridiculous, BB weapons made even more braindead and perhaps most insultingly of all giving them cruiser consumables. Among other things. And yet, what has happened? BBs camp even harder than before while spouting the same things. Wow, yeah, sure changed the game for the better, eh? What about current issues? How long have we been waiting for a fix for BB AP pens on DDs? What happened to the fix that was proposed? Oh, no, it improved cruiser survivability as well? Isn't that actually a good thing to combat BB overpopulation? To make cruisers more accessible and easier to play? Nope, can't have that. Fix discarded. And yet when there is a bug that actually improves the game and finally makes people capable of punishing broadside potato BBs, it ofc must be fixed immediately. Can't have misplaying potato BBs take citadels after all. Quite frankly I'm ing sick and tired of seeing the same excuses thrown around despite the game changing so massively in favor of BBs. "I can't push, torps are too deadly.", "I can't push, there is too much HE spam.", "I can't push, planes will get me." Give me a break, you should've seen this game in CBT. To me you sound like a broken record that's been playing the same excuses for the last 3 years. Heck, to my shame I must admit I've even parroted them for about half a year until I actually learned how to play the game. And here's where the difference lies between "us" and "them". We've learned our lessons, they haven't or outright refuse to and demand the game conform to them instead. As someone who has bothered to learn how to play BBs, excuse me for being extremely offended by such behavior and responding accordingly. Perhaps you can now see why I have no patience in dealing with people who try to "convey the pov of BBs" anymore. Perhaps you don't. I honestly don't care. But don't expect me to be courteous when the game has become what it is precisely due to people "conveying the pov of BBs".

Even when you are just blatantly wrong in general? (If gif doesn't load, here's a direct link: https://imgur.com/8gD4ArX ) Here's the deal: It is impossible for a 24k damage torp to deal full damage with a bow/stern hit even to T10 BBs, much less kill anything with only such hits. A bow torp hit with a 24k damage torp at best deals a bit more than half damage on the first hit, any subsequent hits deals less than half until the ship is also saturated, at which point the section will simply no longer take any damage. Case and point: Taking a hit on the bow/stern thus does more to mitigate torpedo damage than the actual belt ever will. The only question you need to ask yourself is whether you want guaranteed flooding or a chance that there's flooding. If you're only worried about the damage, taking a hit to the bow is the way to go. Besides, we don't need someone to convey the viewpoint of BBs. We play BBs ourselves after all, we know what a joke torps are as a BB deterrent. If your WASD and situational awareness is on point taking a torpedo becomes an incredibly rare event, much less dying from one.
