    aa-builds are completly useless

Which is where the game's fundamental design and core principles come into play. Namely a counter based system and teamplay. If your ship is effectively unable to shoot down a plane, just stick with a ship that can. Granted this isn't exactly an option in low or even mid tiers but that's to blame on the utterly nonsensical progression and inconsistency of both AA and aircraft that WG is so insistent upon. No one can tell me however that in high tiers you have no chance against a CV with every second ship being capable of becoming a no-fly-zone. And yet those are usually the CVs that are most complained about. A DD being able to eventually sink a BB with gunfire alone is pretty much the same as even the most minuscule DPS being able to shoot down a plane eventually (as AA is rising chance over time). It can be done but it's ineffective, thus you should not rely on it and look for alternate means to achieve your goal. Even if such alternate means is just "let others deal with it". After all with an asymmetric distribution of roles no single class should be able to do everything on their own in a perfect scenario and CVs certainly aren't the exception to the rule, thus making victory (for the most part) determined by the human factor which is what all PvP games, be it the most casual past time or the most competitive sport, strife for.

From that point of view the analogy doesn't work for any other class either as each occupy different roles. Let's say CVs can only use their arms, DDs can only use the right arm and the right leg, cruisers can only their left appendages and BBs can only use their feet. Just because we have three classes which play from a third person perspective while one plays from an RTS point of view doesn't mean they're not fundamentally different even in individual aspects such as armaments. E.g. if you try to treat your DD gun like a BB one you will inevitably fail. The goalie vs rest analogy works to prove that asymmetry within a team works which is what the other fellow tried to deny. If you go into detail, yeah, it falls apart but so does every analogy. It's not the purpose of an analogy to hold up under intense scrutiny after all.

Uh, no. Again the enemy team is so inept that the goalie does not need to protect his own goal. He can go out into the field and score goals within the rules set in the game. He does not need to use his hands because the enemy team is so stupid that they're not going anywhere near his goal anyway. Ofc when the enemy team is actually competent then he cannot do that anymore. Just like with CVs. Inherently CVs cannot do anything but spot, requiring either teamplay or the enemy team to be incompetent to get any damage in. This is their small playing field in which the goalie is allowed to use his hands. Thus if CVs are doing well that means one of two things. Either CVs are accommodated so well by their teams that they can get a ton of striking in OR the majority playing this game are hilariously incompetent. And just spending 5 matches in randoms will tell you which of these is true. Thus a CV is allowed to leave their own goal unprotected and go out to score goals on a consistent basis, so to speak. Guess what, the week has just begun and I've already had my second match in which I was able to take cap in a CV, the most recent one in a friggin' standard battle on top of that. That is the level of play in randoms.

Oh, no, they intentionally restrict such an ability so that it does not become overpowered? Just like how a CV cannot do jack to any team that just complies with the basics of teamplay? Something that cannot be overcome regardless of the individual skillset? Sounds perfectly fine from a balancing perspective then. Thank you for supporting us in our endeavor to show that CVs are in fact not broken at all. To keep with the football/soccer theme, imagine that the enemy team is so inept that the goalie can just leave his own goal unprotected (as the opposing team is too incompetent to even go anywhere near it), go out himself and score goals on a regular basis. That's pretty much how CVs work right now.
  5. On the other hand it could also be that the current price is the minimum required by contract and the rest is actually thrown in for free. But I guess we'll never know. Yup. It's a bit over the top though. E.g. when I played E I actually got a voiceline for every torp hit. Which... kinda... got a tad bit annoying. :D Although MrConway did say that they're looking into it.

Because a smart CV will realize you're not running DFAA (which isn't that hard to find out) and do this to you:

Would you like co-op battles to be made 8v12?

How about instead of making the current coop mode harder to play (which will inevitably ruffle feathers), we create something entirely new for those who want a challenge but can't be bothered with objective based play that operations demand? I mean, it's not exactly hard to think up something for that. For example a simple wave mode will suffice. - players can take whatever ship they please with a tier restriction of maybe T5+ - initial enemy wave will have ships of T3-4 - every subsequent wave increases the numbers, tiers and/or skill level of enemy AI ships (you could also make the increase in "wave tier" dependent on how fast the previous wave was cleared to prevent lengthy grinds) - no enemy CVs will spawn but enemy air strikes will (this is to prevent having to hunt down an enemy CV that's running away) - every 3 waves or so a repair ship will appear for ~60 seconds (spawn point will get announced previously) and sunk friendlies will revive with half health (CVs revive with half plane reserves instead, repair ship will replenish plane reserves slowly just like health) - the higher you go in wave tiers the higher the rewards Just as a rough outline. You can ofc expand on that with for example having boss waves, enemies sporadically dropping power ups upon death or even implement a competitive aspect by having a seasonal highscore board with rewards for the top placements.

Shhhhhh, asymmetric games are always doomed to fail! As is evidenced by almost every successful e-sport game following such a principle! Oh, wait.

    Time for tutorials Wargaming.

15th Nov 2013, long before the game even entered CBT. Source: https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/1434-your-questions-to-developers/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-39190 26th April 2017 Source: https://forum.worldofwarships.asia/topic/24531-asia-qa-round-1-answers/?tab=comments#comment-309470 Considering what has happened so far I think it's safe to say that tutorials hold no priority whatsoever.
  10. Yeah, but those are still the 12km torps. Chances of them hitting are fairly marginal with the distance required and you have to get into a position to stealth torp in the first place which, while not impossible, is rather uncommon in my experience. Granted, it does give Zao quite a bit more flexibility when it comes to torping smokes tho. Probably worth taking them for that alone.
  11. First game with my Enterprise on my, well, Enterprise. Yes, I bought that overpriced bundle. Although to be fair it's quite possibly not really overpriced considering they had to record a bunch of new lines and afaik popular VAs do cost quite a bit of money (e.g. E's VA also did Violet in Violet Evergarden and Mikasa in AoT). Enemy tries strafe switcharoo, I don't take any countermeasures as I felt like I could waste that squad anyway (MM was awful for the both of us with an almost pure T10 match). Enemy strafe kills 0 planes. My fighters just click and wipe them out. Go after a Monty, kill him with only one of my DB squads lost. Game ends shortly after with a 7 minute duration as enemy team just camped and took no objectives. Wat. Enterprise best waifu stronk!
  12. Depends on how much you want to plan for your future CV population I believe. Personally I'm only gunning for an extra catapult to save for Intrepid. If I don't get it I guess I'll have to put K2'ing Taiyou on hold (which I'm not planning on doing anytime soon anyway). I already got Zuizui and Saratoga both K2 with a catapult ready for Shokaku. Also remember that a catapult costs 300 flamethrowers as well. I barely have enough to get my second one and that's despite rarely spending flamethrowers ever since I started playing. If you're on a budget and already have a catapult I'd probably go for the quest. Catapult quests allow you to get another two which would be enough to K2 at least both Cranes + Saratoga and I have a feeling the extra ASW equipment might come in handy in the next event. Ofc if you have resources to spare you can probably still get both if you keep up a bit. Which is really weird considering I've been farming 3-5 in the meantime and no matter how many runs I make it yields tea on a fairly consistent basis. Meh, who knows.
  13. We torpbote now I guess? Don't feel like this is a particularly big or even meaningful buff. Could be wrong tho, I know being able to torp from stealth in a cruiser can yield some hilarious results. Oh. OH. Now this is actually a pretty big buff.

Doesn't that prevent you from using either IFHE, AFT or CE? And even without MAA my Atlanta just melts planes. She doesn't really need it.
  15. Which was fine in the initial beta iteration of the game when 15km torps were considered decently ranged, hydro/radar didn't exist and DDs simply didn't have to leave cover to make their torps felt. Aircraft were the only counter to long range torpedo spam and the concealment of DDs. This is why when CV numbers dropped to almost zero that the torpedo soup meta emerged, kickstarting a spiral of degeneracy that to this day hasn't stopped. But ofc instead of addressing the actual problem WG nerfed torpedo boats into oblivion and introduced stupid 1-button-win mechanics that are quite frankly game breaking in combination with CVs. Utterly brilliant. That's a failure of the entire team and of WG's insistence on keeping AA as inconsistent as possible no matter how much people, including most CV players, argue how utterly stupid it is. Actually I'll have to disagree. A CV inherently can only spot. That's certainly not an insignificant ability to have but it can be overcome. This is what makes CVs the most influential class in the game and why every other ability they have gets shafted in comparison. A CV has no inherent damage dealing potential, relying on their own team to create openings or the enemy team being stupid. As such a CV has no area denial capability either. There is simply no way for a CV to deny the enemy team map control unless they sail around piecemeal, which is a mistake on par with not using WASD against torps and deserves to be punished by instant, unrewarding death as WoWs is and has always been a team game. I can kill the sole DD trying to sneak a cap easily. I can't do anything to him however if he has substantial AA backup, be it just a single AA cruiser or a few other ships that pushed the cap with him. And naturally CVs don't have any capping potential and are pretty bad at defending any control gained. Thus you get a class that can only play the information game, which again can be game deciding but never is the sole deciding factor to success, and relies entirely on either teamplay or sheer stupidity to do anything else. And here's where the current random meta comes in. Teamplay is, ironically, still being done FOR CVs but practically never AGAINST them. After all regardless of how stupid your team is, you can at least rely on them to shoot the enemy, either to HE spam that one target which would otherwise cost you a lot of planes with little damage done or have your inevitable 5 BB mob all shoot for those tasty citadel punching bags otherwise known as AA cruisers. And I believe I don't need to tell anyone how much stupidity is running rampant in randoms. Just to make sure we're all on the same page tho, here's a small list of behaviors that benefit a skilled CV player: Basically all bad behavior displayed by even skilled players benefit CVs in some way. On the other hand in an environment where stupidity isn't as abundant as it is in randoms (see KotS for example) CVs are far from the big game deciders that some people make them out to be. This means that while CVs do in fact possess more potential game influence than other classes (something that becomes an inevitability when distributing roles in an asymmetric manner), they are by no means too far ahead due to the way how they project their power. Spotting is powerful, definitely, but on its own it is at the same time worthless. It requires someone to take advantage of it, promoting teamplay in what is supposed to be a team game while making sure that the better team has better chances of securing victory. If the enemy CV is supporting a team that plays well, you quite frankly don't deserve to win if your own CV is lackluster even if the rest of the team plays well. If the enemy CV has a team of potatoes while your team plays well, you actually have very good chances at securing victory even if your own CV player is bad. And if both teams consist of morons it becomes a dice roll even for the CV. The odds are in his favor, but he still can lose. I could tell you lengthy tales about some of my matches which have me wiping out literally 2/3rds of the enemy team and still losing. All the while my teammates complain about how bad I am. I'm not even joking.
  16. Except that this statement can be applied to another class: Destroyers. What you're essentially saying is "90% of the playerbase can't WASD, so we need to remove or rework torpedoes." Yet for some reason when talking about "equality between classes" (which btw is a hilariously idiotic concept for a game such as WoWs anyway) I never see demands for DDs to get reworked or removed. For some reason this concept always only applies to CVs. And that's what makes everything you just stated a joke. You think CV players are blind. How cute. Yes, we sure are blind to how the other classes interact with CVs. It's not like we play them ourselves. Oh, wait. The only one who's truly blind here is you. Laughably so, really.
  17. As evidenced by the massive impact the enemy Haku had on the match. Oh wait. Judging by the scoreboard OP never had a chance of winning that match anyway even with a decent CV player. Skilled CVs are game deciders mostly because 90% of the playerbase is braindead. It's so laughably easy to shut down a CV it's not even funny.

This statement would've been true a couple months ago. However recently Community Contributors got to play the current prototype for the CV rework, so rest assured that they're actually working on it now.

    aa-builds are completly useless

I mean... That's... Actually an increase in the number of CVs? Unless you mean in low tier. At which point no one really cares anymore because low tier CV play is anyway.
  20. Mini-Event ends on June 13th. I'm in the process of getting my second catapult, so that suits me just fine. Is it just me or did 2-3 stop dropping tea btw? Made several dozen runs but it's not yielding anything.

    aa-builds are completly useless

Just spec partially into AA. For most cruisers DFAA + AFT + AA range upgrade is more than enough to deny air strikes. Slap BFT on if you really hate CVs or are playing RN CLs. Anything beyond that is usually overkill in randoms.
  22. I use it. Because I don't have the perma camo. That and it actually looks pretty good imo.

    Yamamoto Isoroku

Yamamoto is wasted on a CV. He only provides a single real bonus (-16% plane service time) and that's after getting a Kraken. Everything else is just worthless. Extra consumable? Don't need it. 48% HP repaired? You rarely even lose so much HP in a CV anyway unless you position yourself horribly. I'd say he provides the most utility in either a BB or a cruiser. Also obligatory
  24. El2aZeR

    Detection range? WTF?

I mean, you could also ask why your ship doesn't take severe penalties to her combat capability by a couple of shell hits to her superstructure, why ships in this game are much more accurate than they really were or why fires aren't a lot more devastating but that'd touch upon something you actually enjoy about this game, wouldn't it? Regardless the answer remains the same: Gameplay trumps realism. If this game were realistic it'd be far less enjoyable for a greater amount of people.

Atlanta is totally OP and I love it

Altanta is far from overpowered. - says another unicum Atlanta player Seriously though, she has very pronounced weaknesses that keep her from being overpowered. A good player will ultimately learn to play around that but that doesn't mean they're not there. And sometimes RNGesus just says you and gives you no choice in that matter. I've heard some nightmarish stories about playing Atlanta on Okinawa though thankfully I have yet to experience that for myself.
