CV:s in the Social Dimension - a Look to the Future
El2aZeR replied to Procrastes's topic in General Discussion
It's not even about making money. I seriously doubt that having CVs, especially in their reworked form, is financially beneficial given that CVs still make up a minuscule part of the playerbase and how disliked they are in the community. No, it is something even more stupid. Who do you think is gonna be held responsible if the CV rework doesn't meet quotas and was as such a gigantic waste of time, money and manpower? The executive who approved of the changes, the producer who oversaw development, the designers who came up with this dumpster fire etc. all have personal stakes in it - which is precisely why nothing will ever happen to fix it.- 94 replies

Just when I thought my respect for the average playerbase couldn't fall any lower...

CV:s in the Social Dimension - a Look to the Future
El2aZeR replied to Procrastes's topic in General Discussion
Don't worry about it, that's actually what makes CV play fun. It wouldn't be nearly as entertaining without the salt. Ofc not. WG has given us the answer to that well over a year ago when CV player numbers fell below RTS - by making it abundantly clear that to them their quotas and spreadsheet are far more important than anything else. Although ironically currently CV player numbers are well below RTS too on every server but SEA.- 94 replies

Since it has already been explained to you one can only imagine that you are being deliberately disingenuous once again. Hint: There is no positive outcome for the DD. How you even notice the difference between an AA built ship and a normal one is beyond me. MvR is dead, sure. Good thing other hilariously op options which are still left unchecked exist so who cares. Not sure what you expected to change. Git gud. If you refuse to, you deserve to fail. I see even terrible CV players run around with viable strike wings all match long. I guess that puts your experience into perspective. They actually die just like before. AA has not changed much with the cpt skill rework. As for your hopes for a buff, the newly announced high tier cruisers actually have AA values that rival pre-0.8.7 AA effectiveness at least in theory, so that's not happening.
-
Man this topic feels like a blast from the past.
-
Yeah, no thanks. The last thing this game needs is players throwing the match because they stopped to pick up survivors. They do that enough as is.
-
Except I am basing that off of playing experience, aka reality. With which your entire pathetic narrative falls apart.
-
AHAHAHAHA Yeah right. A typical cruiser can be finished off in as little as 2 strikes. Especially when they are parked stationary in a favorable striking location as in the example above. Meanwhile the enemy DD goes and takes the cap, leaving you still useless and at a disadvantage. And if you smoke the cruiser, even better. You are now both blind and useless. Congratulations. At this point the enemy CV doesn't even need to attack your flank anymore since you are winning the match for him. This somehow implies you win matches at a disproportionate rate compared to others. Clearly your tactics aren't worth learning if that is what they cap out to. Duration of flak has been lengthened to address the speed exploit which makes speed juking a lot more difficult and practically impossible for slower planes. Other than that nothing has changed.
-
Haven't done too much experimentation but in my experience as a CV I notice no difference between a full AA and a standard build. At which point the enemy CV can just kill the cruiser since you are useless, multiplying his influence on the match. You are giving an excellent example of why your approach loses the match. In fact it could even be construed as a deliberate throw.
-
You actually need to stick within 2-3km of a cruiser since long-range AA is extremely weak across the board, typically equal or weaker in strength than Shimakaze total AA, as such won't do anything to deter air strikes. At which point you are useless in practically 100% of all situations.
-
BBs build now exactly the same as pre-rework post dead eye gone.

If anyone honestly believes the cpt skill rework was made to promote variety then they're very naive.- 20 replies

A combination of misplaced pride, corporate politics and sunk cost fallacy.

Interceptors cannot be despawned by enemy fighters, but they cannot spot either. That's all. Objectively speaking the rework solved none of the problems that RTS had while adding its own on top, as such the rework is way worse than RTS was. Your personal views on the matter are irrelevant in the face of facts.
-
No. It is still far too expensive for what it does and practically requires you to take Interceptor as well if you don't want your fighters to be despawned easily. But the effect itself can be worthwhile - if you want it for the extra spotting.
-
This is a joke and a half given that cross drops still exist and by turning away you are almost guaranteed to eat more torps than you evade. Also making a quick adjustment to compensate at best takes only marginally longer than a standard straight up attack.
-
The irony of the matter is that if you sit next to 5 Minotaurs that also plays heavily into the favor of the enemy CV. Hence why supposed "counterplay" always works in favor of CVs, as such actual counterplay against CVs does not exist.
-
USN HE DBs in particular don't suffer accuracy penalty when turning. The reticle only closes much slower while you maneuver, but the attack timer is gracious enough to still let it close to full accuracy once you're lined up even if you did the wildest maneuvers beforehand. Pretty much the only way to not let it close to full is if you literally turn the entire time. That allows them to some pretty ridiculous stuff like this:
-
You slow down after you bait flak to spawn further away, yes. But in general as I said before it is best to preemptively dodge flak rather than to reactively attempt to dodge it. You can accomplish this by misdirecting it towards an area you do not actually wish to go. Here's a very basic example of that but I hope it gets my point across: https://youtu.be/EagwrFBAUgk?t=108
-
Well, yes, but as you stated since depth is smaller the chance of flak spreading out more is higher, which is why I said "somewhat". In general higher speed means a better evasion since it also influences how far away flak spawns, so the extra spread is offset by that.
-
How tight flak spawns is somewhat determined by squad speed. Relevant passage: There is also a maximum of 18 bursts that can be spawned when you're attacking multiple ships. In general flak is best dodged preemptively rather than reactively. As you stated yourself, reactive dodging against high amounts of flak can fail while preemptive dodging always works. As for flak in an attack run, it is possible to time your run in a way so that the next set of bursts that spawns will be basically at your drop point and as such not matter, however that is quite difficult. Previously you were able to speed juke flak during an attack run but with the recent adjustment that has become extremely unreliable. As such flak on an attack run has indeed become more of an issue at least for rockets and TBs.

Maybe they think murdering its AA is going to make a T8 Alaska balanced somehow. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Because you're the one incapable of facing reality, ever considered that?

Theoretical DPM is a largely worthless value when comparing surface ships to CVs. Fact is CVs are the best damage dealers in the game by far by virtue of reliability, high alpha, flexibility and complete lack of counterplay.
