I'm honored. :) Though tbh I've forgotten that Saipan DBs got buffed (service time used to be over a minute, which is where I got my 4-5 minute attack cycle from) To elaborate on this I did a little test run in the training room. Target was set up 20km away which is a fairly typical distance I believe. Saipan DBs service in 27 seconds. Bombers start launching at 53:31, attack at 52:38 and have landed again at 51:49. This puts one attack cycle under ideal circumstances at 1:42 minutes + 27 seconds service time, which did almost 9k damage to a DD, the best hit I've gotten during my brief testing. Note that one more bomb connecting would've killed that Akatsuki. Now lets see what Hiryu can do. Hiryu TBs service in 12 and launch in 10 seconds. The additional squad you need to launch is largely irrelevant as you can always gather them up on the way as I did in this test. TBs launch at 57:26, attack commences at 56:12 and the first squad lands aboard at 55:15. Second squad landing time becomes irrelevant as your first squad has already begun servicing. This makes for an attack cycle of 2:15 + 12 service time. And unlike with Saipan this is a guaranteed kill. You get more flexibility too as your DBs can follow up with fires, harass a second target or scout. Please also note that this is in ideal circumstances. In actual practice you can easily add another 30 seconds to a minute to your striking cycle as you need to get into the best attack position before you commit. Or you can get denied by enemy fighters or AA completely. Saipan theoretically has a lot of strike potential in her 9 DBs (as does every USN HE DB T8+) but the simple fact is that it is extremely unreliable (like all DBs). Sure, her DBs can occasionally oneshot DDs, but they can also miss their target completely. Every CV with torpedo bombers, even Ranger, will rack up damage numbers much faster and in a more reliable fashion than 3/0/1 Saipan can ever hope to do.

so tell me, should i stop playing yamato. is that the message you are sending us devs
El2aZeR replied to Rage_Oddball's topic in General Discussion
So I guess everyone should play AA escort while CVs try to kill everyone? Sounds fun. -
Enterprise or AS Shokaku for T8. AS Haku, DM and eventually Worchester for T10. Is what I would pick if I ever play ranked again.
-
Except a CV's "risk-reward" factor isn't measured in hitpoints but plane reserves. Just because people can't appreciate plane kills doesn't mean it has no impact on a CV player. A single wipe can severely limit your options and potential impact later on in the match.
-
Could maybe be reverted back to 3% but nothing more than that.
-
Yeah, it can do that once every 4-5 minutes which translates to poor striking potential. It's often not even a kill, it's just a fair amount of damage. A Ranger can outdamage you easily with only TBs.

On RN CLs you have practically no choice but to spec into AA as HE skills don't benefit you (obviously) and survivability skills are of dubious value at best. I have both AFT and BFT on mine which works fine in denying same tier strikes. You don't have points to spare in USN CLs. You're gonna want IFHE, CE and AFT (I regard AFT as superior to MAA as it denies spotting and helps keeping your teammates safe. In terms of raw DPS tho MAA is better) so that's 18 points gone. Basically the choice you have to make is between DE and BFT when picking your 3 pointer. Personally I took DE, you have more than enough AA power to forgo BFT especially considering you'll always have DFAA available. EDIT: Totally forgot about SI as a potential 3 point pick, but imo you don't tend to live long enough to make use of such hilarious consumable overload.

Seen a couple full AA DMs recently (that were not in a div with a CV). Seems like bombing the out of them with AP bombs had some impact. I pretty much always have at least AFT, AA range and (if possible) DFAA on my cruisers. That's usually enough to rip entire strikes to shreds, taking BFT or MAA in addition is a waste of points in that regard.

Main Gun Reload Booster - does everyone need a gimmick?
El2aZeR replied to piritskenyer's topic in General Discussion
They're cruisers. If they were BBs we'd see them get gimmicks free of charge. -
If you don't know yet, Saipan has two decks: 3/0/1 with the DBs you mentioned (which is perhaps the most useless deck currently in the game, even more useless than 2/0/3 of GZ) 2/2/0 with two squads of 3x torp bombers. This is the deck you wanna play with. Honestly I have to disagree with my fellow CV player tho. Saipan may not have the striking power of Kaga or even Hiryu, but it's enough to hunt down and kill DDs which is where the main match influence of CVs currently is derived from. You also cycle planes quite a bit faster so the difference in striking potential isn't as big as it seems at first.

"Should" is the operative word in that sentence. I've had one quit on me after only 3 years of service. It's the only HDD that ever failed on me however. I still have one installed in my PC that is approaching 6 years and it has never once complained about anything. As for the original question, as the post above says, as long as you perform a clean install there shouldn't be any issues.
-
There, now it's universally applicable. :D Seriously tho, never trust your random teammates to do anything regardless of what class they play. How come you can write the r-insult but whenever I try it automatically gets edited btw?
-
Meh, maybe I'm just biased towards DFAA as I know exactly how devastating a CV can be and you can't exactly rely on your teammates as almost no one specializes into AA anymore. And with the current AP DB situation I'd strongly recommend taking DFAA regardless. You really, REALLY don't wanna get caught without it when the balans comes knocking. (Not that I want to sound unappreciative of all the citadels I reap on a daily basis in my CVs, but still )

Fighter stun when strafing out of a dogfight?
El2aZeR replied to Aotearas's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Yes, although there is a trick to that as well. If you pick the distance of your strafe just right so that your fighters lock in immediately they won't need to turn and will start strafing instantly. That requires quite a bit of experience however and if you fail, you will lose your window of opportunity as your fighters will circle around like idiots to get into position. It's much safer to make a move command first then start strafing. Still, if you can pull it off it's a much more effective method as it has literally no counterplay. Personally I've never believed in "swerving strafes". The problem with planes in general is that the icon does not really represent the actual position of planes as it is (in my experience) averaged from the models and not taken from the actual position of fighters which in reality is just a dot on the map. This can give the illusion that fighters are flying all over the place when in reality they're following a straight path. If you see a "swerving strafe", you'll realize that after a few seconds the path of the fighter will eventually stabilize in one direction. That's the actual strafe path that was taken, the icon just misrepresented the position of the fighters. This can happen with bombers too but it's much more rare. -
Against same or lower tier CVs it should work well enough with DFAA (been a long time since I played Mogami). Might not kill all planes but neither you nor your allies should take much damage. Against a Midway tho? Yeah, good luck with that.

I have been tasked by comrade @Boris_MNE to stamp his seal of approval onto this thread! Sadly comrade @Boris_MNE remains unjust captive in gulag despite being glorious hero of proletariat. Let us have a minute of silence to grieve for this tragic event.

I would just like to note that you got extremely unlucky. It is literally impossible for a Midway to citadel a Lion, thus you took pretty much the maximum penetration damage possible. Do note that USN HE bombs can easily achieve the same damage but also set fires. Midway should've gone for the Mogami instead as USN AP DBs can actually score citadels on and outright kill her immediately. BBs don't suffer from AP bombs for the most part, cruisers do. Ironic for something advertised as an anti-BB weapon, no? As for 4 minutes, that's how long it can take for you to turn back, service, launch and return to attack depending on how far away you've parked your Midway (although 4 minutes is on the upper end, a bit more than 3 minutes is more realistic if you've positioned yourself well).

Funny and sad game situations shown with map screenshots.

Still feeling guilty about that, huh? Well, at least it shows you're genuine about it and have thus earned my forgiveness. Screenshots are attached above in my first post. -
Quality of players and MM,possible solutions?
El2aZeR replied to Rompiuova's topic in General Discussion
Skill-based MM wouldn't work in WoWs as the player numbers are far too low to sustain it. Best you can do is to force people to play a tutorial explaining the various game mechanics and punish bad play via economy. WG however has interest in neither of those things. -
1. It is impossible for 2 CVs to queue in a division. 2. Detectability is initially determined by the height of the ship, not the size. BBs with their huge superstructure to accommodate the directors necessary for their guns are thus infinitely more visible than the flat deck of an aircraft carrier. 3. A CV needs approximately 2-3 minutes for IJN CVs and 3-4 minutes for USN CVs to "reload". That's the longest reload time for any class in this game. 4. Git gud.
