    CV Rework Discussion

That's too bad considering WG has explicitly told us to the face that they're ignoring everything we say in the past.

    CV Rework Discussion

Not the fault of CVs. And no, that's not a lot of ships that can get killed easily. It's pretty much only a bunch of DDs and that's it. BBs can shut down a strike if banding together or even on their own. The goal of balance is to provide the opposing sides with equal chances of winning outside of the human factor. In the case of WoWs the opposing sides are the two teams, technically speaking the game would still be balanced if only one player per team is capable of dealing damage while all others are only there for spotting. With an asymmetric role distribution over several classes it's inevitable that some are more influential than others. WoWs employs a counter based balancing scheme anyway, which means that no matter how powerful an ability is, it can be countered by something else. The power of the ability determines the ease with which it can be countered. CV striking power is powerful, thus it is defeated by one of the most easy to do things in the game: Sticking together. Whether the players use said counters is irrelevant, because player skill is generally irrelevant to balance. Ironic, considering CVs weren't always this unpopular. In fact CV population used to be rather healthy across all tiers until WG decided to it all up. Did you even listen? WG has done NOTHING to address the issues with CVs despite plenty of suggestions and ideas being thrown at them by the playerbase. They only worsened them with almost every decision they made. It's their own fault CVs turned out this way. Again, CVs weren't always this unpopular. WG made them unpopular.

Except for the plethora of ships around that can shut you down. If he doesn't run DFAA, sure. Then again AP bombs are broken anyway. It's not like no one told WG that but they decided to implement them anyway. OH WAIT. Mostly because the average playerbase is . CV impact drops off dramatically with rising enemy average skill. Is it, really? Because that's pure speculation. I can give you dozens of other reasons why the CV population isn't staying, most of them already mentioned by Fara in his video. The lack of tutorials isn't a primary factor in player retention, true. But it does exacerbate a lot of other points.
  4. The CV is still controlled via minimap while the player pilots his planes. I guess that's still him being in two places at the same time? Aka CVs are still broken?

You know, like they "balanced" so many other things?

    Alaska Vs Kronshtadt

As far as I've seen Alaska plays like a hybrid between USN BBs and Baltimore. Personally I'd probably enjoy it.

    CV Rework Discussion

Just one or two are enough to shut you down. Not that you'd ever know that playing a Kaga as the Kaga is inherently broken. Neither can a CV. Unless you enjoy having no damage potential or air superiority. And I can outfight three DDs in mine. DDs can easily cause as many or more default wins or losses as CVs. Sometimes even before the match begins. Except, you know, the rather healthy low tier CV population proves you wrong. CV population drops off dramatically the higher you go, it doesn't just "not exist". In low tiers having even 2vs2 CV matches is a fairly common occurence, meaning the RTS gameplay is actually successful in drawing new players in. Why they're not staying is a different story entirely. Obviously, but many of the issues that RPF causes can be applied to the reasoning that WG is using to remove current CV gameplay in this regard.

    CV Rework Discussion

Btw, one of the things I found hilarious is that they stated that CVs eliminate flanking etc. due to spotting which is apparently undesirable. Well, why did they introduce RPF then?

    Rework of CVs

They can actually almost oneshot you with 4 penetrations already yielding 3k damage. This will rarely ever happen though due to the large spread. On the other hand thanks to the large spread it's pretty much impossible to miss. The problem will not be the damage (although that will play a big part), the problem will be fires and the planes flying unopposed overhead that get you spotted and killed.
  10. Honestly, lets hope that AA builds will be a thing of the past. Trying to balance the "possibility" of full immunity against one of the supposed core classes of the game has already ended in failure no matter how you look at it. WG should've always balanced primarily using base values in the first place, not make players spend dozens of points and upgrades on AA.

    Rework of CVs

Which isn't possible either because you need to take objectives and the DD being faster and stealthier than you will keep you spotted and under attack the entire time. Unless you plan on running to the border of the map then losing by default this notion is hilarious at best. It doesn't matter at all whether you survive. As for DDs, have you not seen the video? I can permaspot one or multiple in the same area AND harass him/them to death. That is an escalation of power far beyond what we have now.

    Rework of CVs

Well, that means you're just ed, no? After all encountering a well played DD and having no radar/hydro with you is pretty much the same situation.

    Rework of CVs

Except you can sit close to friendly AA cover and effectively be untouchable. No other class is forced to abort an attack due to the mere presence of an enemy ship either. CVs have clear limitations that most people ignore to their disadvantage. I have no sympathies with a DD that rushes a cap only to be obliterated by aircraft.
  14. So I've been asked by the guy who accused me of cheating via counterstrafing to share my secrets. In essence, counterstrafing is really simple, though there are a few rules to establish first: - The UI is a mess, there will be times when it screws you over, making you lose your window of opportunity. - The fighter icon is not indicative to the position of your nor the enemy fighters. Why? Well, I believe that fighters are in reality just a single dot independent from the models, but the position of the icon itself is actually averaged from the position of the actual fighters. This is why the icon sometimes flies all over the place and causes you to miss strafes even when the icon is still in the strafe path since the actual dot that represents the "hitbox" has either long gotten out of it or just grazed it and took no losses because RNGesus hates you (also requires an understanding on how AA/fighter dps really works). - Giving multiple commands via apm spam usually only slows down your fighters and is thus undesirable. Now with that out of the way let's get to counterstrafing! Imagine the following scenario: You're click fighting a squad and a second enemy squad swoops in to ping pong you. At this point you have two options. 1. Strafe out first and let the enemy kill their own squad. 2. Wait for the enemy to strafe out and counterstrafe. Both options are risky, which is why having a second squad yourself helps immensely. If you go with option 1 you make yourself vulnerable to baits. Option 2 on the other hand gives the enemy a small window in which he can catch your fighters without killing his own if he times his strafing out right, giving you no time to react. But since barely anyone is aware that counterstrafing is an option or simply can't get the timing right number 2 is usually my tool of choice. So how do you counterstrafe? Well 1. When the enemy squad is strafing out, take note of which direction they are going. The icon is buggy in this regard as it may circle around a bit before going in the actual direction (remember what I said about the icon above?), but with enough experience you can usually tell in 9 out of 10 cases. 2. Give ONE move command (not an attack command) in that direction first. This gets your squad out of the "stun" they receive when an enemy is strafing out. 3. Place the strafe command in the same direction so that your fighters will start strafing either immediately or shortly after. Don't place it too close or your fighters will circle around to get into position like idiots. 4. Watch as enemy fighters fall out of the sky. Simple, no?

    CV Rework Discussion

Which aren't even remotely comparable to CV play. CVs currently are an action RTS as opposed to more slow paced grand strategy games like e.g. HoI. If you were to actually make a recommendation, use something like StarCraft II or the Command & Conquer series instead. It should be noted however that the action RTS genre is pretty much dead nowadays as far as new games are concerned. A shame, truly. Also there actually are CVs in HoI.
  16. You're assuming the average player is gonna be smart about this.... But yeah, personally with how it looked in the video I would pick a rocket squad first to harass one or two DDs to death, then switch over to bombs and torps after the lines have dispersed a little.
  17. Currently? Apparently nothing. "They're thinking about it". My guess is that they're gonna have fighters constantly hover over the CV or give them such murderous AA it'd be suicide to attack them.
  18. Actually they are considering that the main squad hovers around while the wing attacks. I would imagine that they're going to follow above though and not stay in one place. Making all planes fly an attack run then having only three drop their ordinance does look rather silly after all. Also this is not a nerf. In many ways this is actually a dramatic increase in damage potential.

    Why the CV re-work is a wont-work.

You could just wait for Warthunder Naval Battles. That's probably how long it takes for the CV rework to come out anyway.
  20. Honestly with what was shown in the video you may not need hammer and anvil considering how close you can drop and how fast the torps were. Still subject to balancing ofc tho.

    Why the CV re-work is a wont-work.

You probably don't realize it, but that's actually a good thing.
  22. El2aZeR

    Why the CV re-work is a wont-work.

And being more akin to the theme is not what the average player wants either. The target audience does not want anything close to resembling strategic play. It has been proven time and time again that the vast majority "play for fun" and don't give a single about anything other than their own personal enjoyment, which is shooting at other ships with no consequence. The amount of whine topics about HE spam, torpedoes, CVs, etc. more than proves this. It's a reflection of current player culture. Instant gratification has become the norm whereas strategic planning and outsmarting your opponent has become a niche when just a decade or so ago instant gratification was heavily frowned upon. Nowadays the average player sees ships and he wants to use that ship to shoot other ships or use aircraft to destroy other ships. Stuff like strategy, skill and learning to play doesn't interest him in any way.
  23. El2aZeR

    Why the CV re-work is a wont-work.

Is this all you can think of? Resorting to petty name calling instead of admitting your own defeat? Though to put the final nail in your coffin, let's see, why is CoD:WWII a much more commercially successful game than Day of Infamy despite the former having practically nothing to do with WWII infantry combat and the latter being much more realistic? Why is Ace Combat much more popular than DCS World? Why does Battlefield 4 still have more players than Arma III with both titles released in the same year and the former already being almost two generations behind? The answer is simple, those demanding more realism are a niche audience now that have insignificant economical impact. Leaving people like you behind is fine for WG, leaving the potato playerbase that only wants to "play for fun" behind is not an option. Just like they're leaving people like me behind, those that would like to see skilled play instead of braindead damage farming. Because we, too, have become a niche audience sustained only in the biggest of e-sports titles. And WoWs is not one of them no matter how hard it tries.

    Why the CV re-work is a wont-work.

Because it earns you more money.
  25. El2aZeR

    Why the CV re-work is a wont-work.

Because all CVs were created to be as equal and balanced as possible. Just face it already, applying realism to an arcade game is hilarious at best. And no, WG will never make WoWs anything close to a simulator.
