No they won't unless they don't know that AA mounts have like 200 HP or so. Increasing that to 400 HP does literally nothing.

How about we just remove BBs from the game? Think about it: - cruisers become more numerous = far more AA cover against CVs - DDs will be tuned to counter cruisers instead, hydro & radar removed and DFAA forced on all cruisers - CVs already counter DDs so no changes there Perfect synergy potential and perfect RPS system. BBs were the problem all along.

That's precisely what I'm afraid of. WG doesn't have the best track record when it comes to balancing new weapons. We will see ofc, but again I'm not particularly optimistic.

And yet that is exactly what you aim for. You want an absolute safe way to help your DD contest a cap, regardless of threat. This is what you implied with the chance of losing both the DD and the supporting cruiser. There are no 100% guarantees, but if you don't take risks, you accept that you will take risks elsewhere. And how exactly would you lose both the support cruiser and the DD when the smoke firing changes don't apply? 1. Radar ships: Unless it's a cap with islands in close proximity (at which point you don't need smoke in the first place), your DD should see any radar ship coming long before it reaches your smoke. You have 5-7km leeway to your DD depending on what AA ship you play. Who says you need to sit so close that you may as well throw knives at the enemy? Besides, you too can be a radar ship and thus provide even more utility for your DD. 2. Torpedoes: Likewise your DD should spot any incoming torps long before they reach you. Or spot enemy DDs with enough time for you to predict that there are torps coming for your smoke. 3. Hydro: Are you kidding me? 4. Aircraft: Impossible because your DD spots them coming and your AA will knock them down. 5. Blindfire by BBs: The one counter left, but hey, something has to remain. Can be mitigated by moving around a little. And you can hardly say that this is particularly difficult to pull off. I mean, I can show you how it ends up with an AA cruiser even when the smoke changes are still in effect and there are 5 BBs on the enemy team all gunning for you: Just stay at 6km because within 1km you can wipe out all attacking planes and the CV has to lock in before, meaning he can't pull back. Radar a DD while you're at it and help getting him killed, too. And ofc the entire match practically won within 4 minutes despite your own CV losing air superiority. It's not that hard to completely demolish a CV in an AA ship if you know a little about how they play.

Weird, considering you can't come up with one anymore. You heard it here first, guys. If you lack basic minimap awareness and forward planning ability, no worries, you never needed that anyway!
-
No, but what exactly is wrong with that? If you want a surefire way to make the enemy CV never attack or spot you, wanna know what that would actually be? Broken. Why? Because every play needs a way to counterplay it. That is how you balance a mechanic or strategy in a system like WoWs. That is why for example StarCraft is hailed as one of the best balanced games to ever be created. Quite frankly just bringing "oh, I can never be safe no matter what I do" up is beyond ridiculous to say the least. It is right up there with "omg I can never be completely safe from *insert any mechanic that BBabies frequently whine about here*. If you are unwilling to take risks for your team, you are simply willing to take another. And in this scenario it is losing your DDs. And if it goes that way you have absolutely NO right to complain about it, because it is what you chose to do, not what anyone else forced upon you. Good, because I accounted for every scenario. Because clearly basic minimap awareness and planning ahead is never required in this game.
-
Is it really? Because now they also have to deal with a far higher attack frequency. So instead of you attacking one and spotting another, you attack them both in quick succession which is likely to get them both killed. Against plane spotting you could always retreat into AA cover (and if there isn't AA cover around, why the are you there in the first place?), thus resulting in the loss of "only" one DD instead of both. Again, I'm purely going off of the video which shows you're getting at least one fire with every strike. Same with bombs, so why bother with bombs. But as already stated this is still subject to balance. I just fear that WG will go the wrong way as they often tend to do. Which is where smoke comes in. That leaves not only no counterplay options for the enemy CV, the cruiser is covering his DD against possible surface attack as well. See, this is why I opposed the smoke firing changes. I knew this would make it pretty much impossible for cruisers to cover their DDs against CVs barring island cover on some maps, but ofc everyone else ignored that under the notion "lol who cares CVs are so rare anyway, so this is a great change". Which is why I stated that the adjustments I'd make are never going to happen. They reverse many of the nerfs and buffs that WG deemed acceptable but in reality only made CVs stronger and stronger for those who could play them well.
-
Being pink is a warning. It's not a penalty, thus it's far from being too harsh. It's unlikely that you're going to have multiple accidents unless you specifically aim for them to happen.
-
Thing is in the video rockets are arguably even more superior to bombs. if your goal is to set DoT anyway, why bother with bombs? Rockets reload faster, don't require as much care in approach and your squad is more maneuverable while you attack. This is no doubt getting adjusted. I fear however that they're going to adjust this by buffing bombs, either by introducing AP bombs back or making them ridiculous otherwise. Have cruisers push with DDs to establish cap control and provide AA cover? That would however require a ton of adjustments not in favor of the average playerbase, aka it's never going to happen anyway.

The circle does get smaller. The inner circle just represents the minimal spread you can achieve, the outer circle is your current accuracy.

Losing air superiority means the enemy CV can counterattack and make your sacrifice moot. If you prefer to see the entire picture, you're certainly failing at it. Sure, if it's a freebie, it's a great trade. Sadly that is almost never the case. Why should I care when I get a lot more strikes per game anyway? In the current iteration you can send out about 6 strikes per match at most. Hovering around means you tend to lose a strike, thus it must be worth it. And if it isn't, you've just ed yourself over big time. Kaga ofc has no problems with this because her single squads are big enough to mitigate losses and still cause damage along with reduced service times giving her more strikes as well. It's almost as if she's made for braindead CV play, only surpassed recently by the GZ. Then you simply have foresight. Early on you will fly with nothing but rocket squads, as soon as DDs are dealt with or have retreated you can go after something else. This is no different than the current iteration. DDs will not be able to carelessly enter caps and contest in a CV game, rework or not. And if you don't have rockets out? Attack anyway, see if something sticks, doesn't matter if it does or not. You'll be back in a minute to make his life miserable anyway.
-
Seriously, have you even watched the rework stream? Planes are faster and take off the moment your current squad expend their last ordinance. They don't need to return to the CV first, they don't need to service. This cuts down an immense part of the time a CV spends on "reloading". Honestly? No. If you do it with fighters you risk losing one. Only one lost fighter means your job of contesting air superiority becomes much, MUCH harder as you cannot click-fight anymore. If you do it with bombers you cut down your striking potential, also undesirable. IJN CVs can perhaps do so freely with their DBs as they have negligible impact, but USN CVs lose a huge part of their striking capability. I'd only do it if there are allies in the area that are ready to capitalize but cannot spot. That however is going to be no different with the rework. Also one squad is easily dodged, as such you need both squads. Kaga, being inherently broken, does not represent CV play as a whole. Taking her as the standard for CVs is a joke at best. Also perhaps you forget that unlike with the current iteration the DD will be constantly under attack and on fire, losing modules and their detectability advantage. You may not even need to stay in the area as others can just finish the job for you. Smoking will be your only option against the reworked CVs, which will inevitably get you killed by other means. Your counterplay options practically remain the same as now except they become worse due to reworked AA.
-
Except no, there is no compromise. You constantly spot and harass the DD. As soon as the current squad has expended its ordinance, a new one takes flight, goes back and does the same if the DD isn't dead already. How is it different from the current iteration? Well, if a CV fails his attack now, it's gonna take 2-4 minutes before he comes back to attack you again. With the rework "reload" time easily gets cut down to one minute. DD play is likely going to be a lot more miserable than before.

Cash refund for premium carriers after rework?
El2aZeR replied to goodman528's topic in General Discussion
I'd be extremely surprised if WG offers us a cash refund. Would I want one? Eh, maybe? Depends on how the rework turns out overall. If it's absolutely horrible, yeah, I'd want my cash back. If it's okay but not to my taste, I wouldn't begrudge them for "only" giving us doubloons etc. -
Maybe it's to prevent people from seeing them get nuked by AP bombs.

Old skool CV Captains final say and thoughts
El2aZeR replied to Redcap375's topic in General Discussion
Wanna know something funny? Counterstrafing is just one of the many hidden mechanics in fighter play. Even click-fighting has its intricacies and isn't decided purely by RNG contrary to popular belief. And no, I was never going to bother passing any of them on. Why should I when I've known for long time that it all gets removed anyway? -
*cough* Graf Zeppelin *cough*
-
I mean, I don't particularly care anymore at this point. Strategic and tactical play overall has gone down the drain in the past two years. The whole premise of making CVs focus on striking or DoT instead of scouting means they'll either get away with hilarious damage totals or be completely useless. Or all other classes except BBs get nerfed because CVs are too good at setting DoT. Regardless of which way WG goes, it can pretty much only end in disaster. And if it all burns down anyway, I may as well have a bit of fun while it does.

Kinda. I think it looks fun.
