  1. Here, tell me what you see: The funny thing about human perception is that it can be wrong, whereas scientific data is always right no matter what you think.

    No Spotting XP

It's not exactly a secret that spotting rewards are practically nonexistent.
  3. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) But yeah, SoDak is generally speaking a better pick than Eldridge for general purposes.

    Aircraft spotting and smoke

Judging from the leaked gameplay video ships will require LoS to fire AA guns, but aircraft spotting remains the same. This ofc can still be subject to change. But then again neither is this the point of the thread. I just wanted to clarify whether these mechanics are working as intended.
  5. The max damage a Yamato/Musashi can do to a Conq with only penetration damage is around 45k. That's 54% of your health. I'm ofc assuming that there aren't any weird double damage penetrations occurring. Also Yamato/Musashi overmatches literally every part of your ship except the main belt. That means even deck hits, which would bounce off with any other gun caliber currently in the game, will result in penetration damage. Yamato and Musashi are the only ships capable of this. If you angle against everything else nothing can be done to you that cannot be done to other BBs either. However even if you sit full broadside to a Yamato in a Conqueror you're still extremely unlikely to take the damage you're describing with only penetration damage. The more logical assumption is therefore that you took citadel hits. I'm guessing that you turned towards the salvo, thus raising your side out of the water and allowing any shell that hits the waterline to bypass your main belt armor and therefore hit the citadel directly. Or you're just straight up unlucky. If you want to call bull on it, well, I actually ran tests on this quite a while back: Thus fact remains that Conqueror, despite her supposedly "squishy" armor, is actually one of the best protected BBs against AP shells. Against HE shells she is tied for worst with the French as they too have 32mm all over. So tell me, do you really want to argue against scientific data with only your "feelings"? Conqueror, like any RN BB, heals 60% of all penetration damage, that includes AP shell penetrations, compared to 50% for all other BBs.
  6. Yup, which is why you should only take them if you literally have no halfway decent BB guns. Or you want memes. You could hold out on getting her from the shop for now if you want to keep trying. After all the event still lasts a while. She's definitely worth it tho. Doubly so with Shoukaku ofc, but even on her own she's pretty powerful.
  7. 410mm twin guns are meh. If you don't have any good BB guns, take them. Torp is nice but you'll be able to get those later a lot more easily via Core-Data exchange (whenever that hits EN). Still, if you want one now, go for it. Reppu is a top tier fighter, but so are others that are more accessible (Hellcats & Seafangs. F4Us and A6M5 Zeroes aren't bad either). Extra Zui-zui for LB if you're short on Bulins. Boxes if you're short on good equipment. Personally tho I'd go for the furniture. I'm not even joking.
  8. Well, it took me several weeks for Honolulu to drop at 10-2. That's a blue drop. Although ironically both Jintsuu and St. Louis didn't take nearly as long. So yeah, could just be RNGesus trolling hard. Wow Tanaka, are you for real? Right after the event and with map progress reset? At least give me my Fletcher to make up for it.

    Matchmaking Tier imbalances.

The goal of balance is to achieve roughly equal odds for competitors outside of the human factor. The competitors in this game also aren't the individual players but the two teams. That there is a potato captaining a premium ship thus doesn't matter. What matters is that there is a ship of the same class and the same tier on the opposite team. And said potato already spent money, that's their interest fulfilled. Also ranked exists. It may be seasonal, but it exists. If the goal is to have fun no matter what, then why is taking damage in this game not fun? Why is taking a torpedo not fun? Or getting bombed? Or taking a citadel hit? Or just losing in general? Making parts of the game not fun is intentional because it facilitates the natural learning process. If you can derive fun from getting beaten, fine. That's your subjective point of view. From an objective design standpoint however dying, losing or being made the target of any mechanic, be it getting spotted, shot at, bombed, torpedoed, etc. in this game in particular, is intentionally designed to be not fun so that people will learn how to avoid or deal with these non-fun parts of the game. If you design a PvP game to always be fun no matter the situation you have failed so hard as a game designer that you'll not only lose your job, you'll never work in this industry ever again. And please, stop it with "it's just a game, we should all be having fun". How serious you take a game is up to you, that's fine, but a PvP game by nature is a competition. The player that spends more time and effort should always have the advantage over someone who doesn't, the tier system just turns that into something that can be monetized. Quite frankly this is like complaining that it is unfair some amateur chess player can't beat a grandmaster. WoW has a monthly subscription system that inevitably makes a dev want to retain their playerbase or otherwise they would make no money, aka it's pay to play. WoWs doesn't have that issue as it is free to play. The goals and monetization philosophy of the two devs are completely different and thus the balancing measures they use incompatible. Again the tier system and the differences in the power of higher tier and lower tier ships is the fundamental basis of how this game is supposed to make money. E.g. a T8 ships thus must be far more powerful than a T6 one but at the same time far inferior to a T10 ship. And ships of different tiers get put into the same match so that the lower tier player can see what he can look forward to and grind towards. This grind can then either take a lot of time, or not as long or even skipped entirely via using their wallet. Is this unfair to the lower tier player? No, because again the individual is not the target of balance. The team is the target of balance. For every low tier player there is an opponent of the same class and the same tier on the opposite team. That's balance. And if he gets trashed by the higher tier player, who has either spent more money or more time on this game to get said higher tier ship, that provides an incentive for the lower tier player to also spend more time and/or money on this game. Sure, some will quit over this, but most will stay because the higher tier ship that you got trashed by can be acquired for free by you too (barring premium ships ofc, but that just provides more incentive to spend money). As such the number of quitters is of no consequence. That's monetization. By decreasing the difference in power between higher and lower tier ships, you are giving players less reasons to spend money on the game as you are literally undermining the fundamental basis of the monetization system your game is built upon. And without monetization the game cannot exist, thus your views on balance, fun and fairness will never be taken seriously by WG.

    Matchmaking Tier imbalances.

Which will make the lower tier player want to grind the higher tier ship, potentially spending money in the premium shop to accelerate the process significantly. You're practically asking WG to destroy a big part of their own business model. Also fun takes a very far backseat when it comes to PvP game design. The entire goal of any PvP game is to ruin the fun of your opponent by winning, therefore the "fun" a player has when on the receiving end of a mechanic is completely irrelevant. Mechanics have to be fun to use, not fun to be a target of.

CA AP on CL - overpens through citadel or not?

Oh, sorry, I meant your team's Missouri. You were in a Haru. ^^"
  13. El2aZeR

    AP bombers OP?

Well, at least one of the intended goals of AP bombs is being met I guess.

    The CV Captains Cabin

It's an incredibly old bug, but there used to be one where you could lose your fighters one by one to literally nothing. It got fixed tho.

    He tried. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  17. @Saiyko Boy, the we've seen today....

CA AP on CL - overpens through citadel or not?

A bit surprised you didn't pick the game in which I just sat full broadside to your Missouri at 3km in my Worcester and there was nothing he could do against me. Seriously tho, while I guess the mechanics (fuse times etc.) behind it are in fact intended, it's just straight up stupid.

Do you want a coal / free xp destroyer?

Cinematic 3D models do not translate well into a game engine as they have different requirements entirely. For example you can practically disregard polygon count as everything will be sent to a render farm (basically a super computer) anyway, which will then render and compile whatever it is you created into a viewable format. Said process can literally take days depending on the complexity of your scene. This is why cinematic 3D models are often far more detailed than ingame ones. Just compare the level of detail of the Ibuki in the trailer to the Ibuki ingame. It's like night and day. For video games you obviously don't have the luxury of waiting days for your PC to render what is going on. This is why polygon count is kept as low as possible. There's also a lot of trickery involved with the textures and stuff to create optical illusions by e.g. making areas appear to be detailed when in reality everything is just a flat surface. You can't really just "downgrade" cinematic models either as that really takes about as long as creating a new model from scratch with potentially worse results.
  20. Considering how often Samar has been alluded to at this point I'm betting on one of the Taffys, of which Johnston is the most obvious choice. Or they go completely troll and give us William D. Porter.

    Fed up

This is the first time I've seen someone complain that their team was actually playing the objective.

quality of play and time of the day

I do enjoy taking my waifu out to dinner to feast on delicious potatoes, yeah.
  23. Funny, I've often had that same feeling. With the Mark 22s I wouldn't worry about it too much tho. Ironically the twin Bofors they were designed to replace are for some reason better in this game. (Bofors does more damage and has a faster rof, Mark 22s has a tiny bit more range) Nevermind the gold quad Bofors mounts which are pretty much the best frontline AA gun you can have. Well guys, I hope you've been saving your cubes and leveling your ships because the event goes live for you EN players tomorrow. :) Btw, when retrofitted San Diego goes from "Super Rare" to "Ultra Rare". Not even a meme anymore since apparently she jumped the line all the way to being one of the top CLs according to preliminary info. Truly NUMBAH WAN! Meanwhile in KC: Tanaka pls. Just give me my Fletcher already. (Also that Mk 37 GFCS looks incredibly silly being tacked onto the 5"/38 mount.)
