  1. By not using spotter plane, staying concealed and moving up to turn behind the island, not in front of it, denying Yama, DM and Alsace a clear line of fire while you support the Gearing in the fight? Afterwards there's nothing left to spot you either, so you can safely disengage or pick a long range fight with the Yama. Both DDs were behind the island. There was nothing that could spot you unless you choose to open fire yourself. Which is what I would assume the HInden did considering he used his spotter. Indeed, but it's not a match ending mistake unlike BBs camping in the back. At that point the match was lost anyway. I fail to see the relevance. Also Gearing 2 cleared the line when moving to C. Not the most intelligent thing to do mind you, but still nothing was spotted. The DD that was at B had no relevance to the fight at hand. Shima gun power is not so weak that you cannot put a Gearing below 70% health in a few salvos. Torps are pretty much impossible to hit in that position, especially when we're talking about Shima torps. I'd much rather know how exactly a Gearing is supposed to take torps. Just backing up a bit will allow you to dodge. But hey, I'd assume we've both seen hilarious stuff in our time with this game. Ofc assuming he DID take torps, yeah, that's incredibly stupid. We both know it's possible, but lets for a second assume he did not. That'd isolate the Shima into a 1vs1 against the Gearing with Cossack unable to do anything, meaning the Gearing could've gotten two separate easy 1vs1 situations. Using island cover to achieve that is hardly the most stupid thing to do (whether it was what the Gearing INTENDED is ofc up for debate). Getting detonated was literally the only thing that prevented him from winning. Technically speaking Hinden support was unnecessary but would've been welcome. Ofc with the detonation HInden was the only ship that could've traded, but he couldn't because he immediately went for max range sniping. The goal would be to secure C, freeing up your DDs to take B. There's plenty of island cover that'd allow you to move up without exposing yourself too much. Benson should have died, yes. That too however wouldn't have changed the outcome in the slightest. Torps from B would've been mitigated by both island cover and freeing up your DD to go take B. If you go towards the B side between the two caps, yeah, that'd be stupid not only because you're exposing yourself to all sorts of bad news but because it'd cause you to lose C regardless. That wasn't the point tho. And yet would that shift the outcome of the match? C was still going to be lost. A would've been given up for free so there are going to be DDs on your flank. You would have to give up B eventually or die due to a lack of support from camping BBs. That's what I'm saying. Even if the DDs had played flawlessly, that game was impossible to win because those BBabies are camping, not because the DDs failed too much. That these DDs played far from optimal only makes Flamu's team lose harder, but they were going to lose regardless. Because camping BBs will do that to you. I have seen stupid you would not believe. Thus NBTRs conclusion that "LOL ONLY DDS FAILED! BBS COMPLETELY INNOCENT!" is hilarious at best. You know as well as I do that neither Haku nor Midway cycle strikes fast enough to do that.

I tend to shoot down spotters pretty fast in mine with DFAA active. Ofc Grozo is better at it, but Gearing is no slouch either. Unless ofc RNGesus hates you. Meh, I've had a GK tell me "LOL L2P NOOB ONLY CRUISERS HAVE HYDRO" once. At this point nothing can surprise me anymore.

Grozo has it anyway thanks to her latest buff? At least that's what I remember. Weirdly enough few people seem to use it whenever I drop them. Rest cannot even take DFAA.

  5. Once again avoiding the point, I see. Not that it's unexpected ofc. The marketing team isn't staffed by the same people as the game design & balancing team. Doing one thing doesn't exclude doing the other.

    Best Destroyer

Atlanta In terms of versatility Fletcher would be my pick.
  7. Actually staying behind the island is smart play. It reduces the numerical superiority of your enemy into two separate and very winnable 1vs1 situations. Pushing out would be a horrendous mistake. It would've ofc also been more favorable if the Hinden too pushed up instead of running to the A line, but hey, can't expect a Hinden to deal with the overwhelming firepower of a Shima and a Cossack. With the DM not spotted yet I too would be wary of radar and take cover just in case. Both Lightning and Loyang become notably more active as soon as the DM is spotted in B. That doesn't matter, even if he had gone B he would've either died, making Flamu's team lose harder, or made to camp next to an island and thus providing no valuable spotting either. Whether you're skilled or not doesn't matter in this case, a skilled DD player would've made a straight 180 turn or hunkered down next to an island as soon as the DM was spotted. Spotting was not going to happen regardless, especially with the closest BB 16km out. DM too wisely sought cover as soon as he got detected, so the only thing that would've been spotted was the bow on camping Alsace. That takes a lot more than 5 minutes to dislodge with the firepower available. It would've provided the freedom for the DDs to go for B instead of having to keep holding C, partially neutralizing the torp threat. Also broadsiding to what? The Alsace camping in their spawn? The Yamato even further away? All relevant ships are accounted for at this point, so no ship close enough to punish is going to appear. The point is Gearing 1 detonated, Gearing 2 even if he had been a skilled player couldn't have done much in B while the other 3 DDs had to hold C as their backup refused to do it. Regardless of whether their play could've been better, no amount of skill could've saved that team. Heck, even in a CV that match would've been impossible to turn. I mean, lets imagine for a moment that the Gearing had gone B and not died while doing what you think he should've done. That leaves A lost by virtue of the Gearing detonating while the Hinden runs for the map border, B cap contested and giving no points to either team and C cap still completely abandoned by camping BBs. Flamu and co would've gotten locked into a bow camping borefest with the enemy Alsace, only to eventually get flanked by the encroaching enemies from both C and A as you cannot kill bow camping BBs that fast. The ONLY game winning play that was even remotely possible at that point was securing C in force. And that didn't happen because the most heavily armored ships with the most HP didn't want to get their paint scratched. Were the DDs without faults? Certainly not. But that doesn't matter as the match was unwinnable anyway thanks to camping BBs. To blame the DDs for losing the match is therefore pure idiocy. Considering they were equally worthless, that matters how? Which, again, would've changed what exactly? BBs that don't want their paint scratched won't push no matter how politely you ask. Your naive optimism is quite sad in a way. Not because you're trying to eliminate and condemning toxicity, no, far from it. It's because those that have been with this game since the beginning know that what you're doing is futile. Being polite has been tried. It failed pretty much every time.

If you're far enough away, sure. Catapult planes have far higher concealment than CV planes (3km last I remember), by the time you see them you better be right on the edge or you'll get spotted no matter how fast you turn and run away. And no, thanks to their high concealment you'll practically never see them launch unless you're in suicide range. I found that random lucky torpspreads are far more rare than dastardly spotters that always seem to appear when you don't want them to. Indeed, which is why I specified T9+ DDs. Losing a gun actually isn't worth DFAA unless you're divisioning with a CV. Even then I'd think twice about it.

    Ranked season 10 (CVs perspective)

I've actually played far more games in DDs than you did tho? Seriously, you don't need speedboost for such applications if you're on top of your situational awareness. And while DFAA DDs may have enough AA to shoot down a catapult plane eventually, the duration needed is likely going to get you chunked or killed outright. Besides, getting essentially a freebie against your worst nemesis too has good value, even if they're rare. (Also CVs have for some reason enjoyed a surge in popularity after the rework announcement or is it just me? At least I see them far more often now in high tiers than before.)
  10. Actually you need 59500 gold last I checked along with a ton of other stuff, including dozens of gold blueprints, 3 dupes (or gold bulins) and a special item you can (thankfully) get for free after a while. But once you spend all that, she'll truly be NUMBAH WAN. Seriously, her retrofit stats are ludicrous.

    Ranked season 10 (CVs perspective)

Also no DFAA. I'll never understand why T9+ DDs that can take DFAA rarely ever do so. Even in matches without CVs being able to deny spotting via shooting down catapult planes is invaluable and imo much preferable to being able to temporarily go a bit faster.
  12. Lets recap: - Gearing 1 gets abandoned by the Hinden and detonates to a Shima - Gearing 2 can't do anything with a DM in B cap - Kiev takes C, misplays horribly and dies - Lightning takes C, tries to hold C and dies while BBabies camp in spawn behind the aforementioned island - Loyang takes C, then has to abandon C due to lack of support from guess who? Out of 5 DDs only one dies to an individual misplay. But yeah, "DDs failed so hard! BBs are completely faultless!" I'm sorry, but are you actually for real?
  13. - have ~50k coins - try to retrofit Sandy - instant bankruptcy without being able to fully retrofit Sandy -

The amount of RNG in this game

That's actually not RNG tho? I mean ok, the amount of shells hitting the waterline to arm the fuse and then scoring citadels is RNG, but penetration is a calculation without any RNG involved. All BBs will overpen at point blank range above the waterline btw unless the target is heavily armored. Can make for some interesting situations where broadsiding is actually safer than angling.
  16. I did not state that Conq is indestructible. I've merely proven your statements that Conq is somehow less tanky than other BBs wrong. The only joke here is you trying to do away with scientific evidence with your "feelings". So I guess you and all other potatoes complaining about CVs is equally worthless, no?

    Climate change in WoWS

I love how this thread turned from pure troll informative content to a discussion about alcohol.

    Have they nerfed the Missouri?!

Deck penetrations do not exist unless overmatch is involved (in which case the hit will indeed result in penetration damage most of the time). The reason for that is auto bounce and the incredibly "short" engagement distances compared to irl. A shell needs a over 30° angle of fall to pass the auto bounce check. We know that while flight trajectory isn't accurate in this game, angle of fall is in fact modeled after real life values as was concluded in several tests. Thus, for example, a Bismarck or a Yamato would need a distance of around 30km to overcome deck auto bounce. KGV and NC need about 25km, Gangut (Oktober Revolution) can do it from ~20km while Scharnhorst & Kongo would once again need roughly 30km. Even a Cleve would need about 17km distance (and the penetration power is too weak to do anything meaningful, likely resulting in bounces or shatters anyway). What you're experiencing is an optical illusion. Try following your shells in with the camera if you have the time and you'll see that the angle of fall of your shells isn't nearly as steep as it looks like.
  19. So, I've just finished watching the new How It Works video. It has left me with one rather big question that I had hoped would get answered: Does smoke actually block aircraft line-of-sight? We know that islands don't block aircraft vision, but being in smoke does. That made me assume for the longest time that even if you had smoke between you and aircraft they would still detect you if they're within range and my experience in playing and playing against CVs never led me to believe otherwise. But fairly recently I had this occur: These fighters are clearly within my air detection range, yet they're not spotting me. I'm not in the smoke either, just right next to it. And perhaps most importantly, I'm actually shooting at those aircraft and I wasn't detected until the smoke completely faded. Sadly neglected to take a follow up screenshot (and also neglected to enable replays again), but I did wipe most of them out without being seen. (I'm sailing into the smoke, yes, but the screenshot also shows the smoke is already fading, meaning I rammed the island and had nothing but the remaining smoke puffs between me and the aircraft, yet I was not detected.) Is this intentional or a bug of some kind? @MrConway @Tuccy @Crysantos
  20. https://store.steampowered.com/app/294860/Valkyria_Chronicles/ Can thoroughly recommend. Do note that, while pretty good, this is not an entirely flawless port. It does crash from time to time for no apparent reason. Also may have compatibility issues with Win10 according to some, but personally I've had none of those.
  21. I meant the 16"/45 Mark 6s. All guns of the same type fire the same shell type regardless of rarity afaik.
  22. Nah, gold doesn't exist. Those guns in general use HE. Kinda depends what you're facing really, though in general I wouldn't worry about that too much. What really matters are the base stats of the guns. Same here actually. Bought it on a whim because the artstyle looked great. One of the best purchases I've ever made.
  23. Yeah. You need the purple ones tho. Oh boi. On a more serious note, I was actually really looking forward to it despite having not known it even existed until I saw their booth at gamescom. But 60€? Eh, I can wait for a sale.
  24. It's more like the 16"/45 Mark 6 are so good you'll never need any other gun on most BBs. Some with barrages when firing benefit from a faster reload Was thinking about buying that as well, but 60€? Do I look like a peasant?
