  1. Hakuryu is laughably inferior to Midway due to her overspecialization on killing capital ships. Both DW TB options are easily dodged even by BBs due to the huge arming distance. AP bombs do decent alpha but cannot keep up with the DoT that USN bombers provide. IJN rockets are likewise inferior to USN ones and do not provide any utility against lightly armored ships due to being far too inaccurate. Also I'm not a fan of two engine bombers on CVs. The need of being able to control your hull while a squad is in the air again cannot be stressed enough as the auto-pilot is unreliable at the best of times as well as the need to use DCP/heal is critical for survival. If CV sniping is seen as an issue, measures against that could include a permanent fighter squad hovering near your CV at all times. If it is not, fine by me. Being able to set waypoints on the minimap instead of the tactical map would also be nice. Imo boost on bombers recharges a bit too slow, boost on attack planes recharges a bit too fast.

Honestly even with plane reserves it wouldn't matter unless AA is buffed hard (which won't happen because CVs need to strike and attract the lowest common denominator) because every single aircraft is now used for striking. For example whereas previously you "only" had to deal with ~50 planes before a Midway ran out of strike reserves, now you need wipe out all 116 aircraft. And with the new AA system that's practically never going to happen. The most planes I shot down so far was 21 in a Worchester. That was with near perfect DFAA and side management.
  5. 5 stars in first game. Interestingly enough all team members were fairly competent. Haven't seen that in a while. Lost only 2 guys to dev strikes from Rasputin (one DD who was killed in a single HE salvo, one cruiser who got citadel'd hard by AP).
  6. As a surface ship player I'd much prefer playing against the old RTS system. There is very little delay between attacks which will inevitably overwhelm even the most heavily defended AA ship thanks to DoT. Where previously you had to deal with far increased service times and limited plane reserves, now such attacks have no risk factor at all thanks to unlimited plane reserves. As a CV player the gameplay is kinda fun after you get used to it, but after a few games it becomes rather stale.

    On a more serious note, no game dev manually controls their afk penalty because it's a waste of manpower. Regardless of whether you've intentionally disconnected or not, fact is that you disconnected. If the automated system would differentiate between manual disconnects and connection drops that'd be easily exploitable by e.g. simply pulling the plug on your router. Besides, being pink is only a warning and will not last long unless you're a serial offender.

  10. And ofc the problem with that is CVs are now solely focused on dealing damage. If they cannot do that, they have literally no other role to play left. Sure, they can scout some but that'd not only be the most boring gameplay ever (being even more boring than the current RTS variant which at least had fighter play to fall back on), DDs will provide a lot more utility and staying power along with scouting information. Tbh by making CVs pure damage farmers (again) WG has designed themselves into a corner, especially when it comes to competitive play.

    It's.... actually kinda fun once you get the hang of it? The problem is that I'm likely only having fun because it is seriously overpowered. E.g. playing Ranger with stock planes is decidedly more balanced, underpowered even. And it is a boring snore fest. Btw, I revise my opinion on the Tiny TIms, they actually DDs pretty hard once you get the hang of them. Given that they're also better than HVARs against cruisers and BBs they're clearly the superior option. Last game had a strike package deal 11k to a Shima with only 6 hits. Had I followed that up with another set it would've been a kill easily.
  12. Indeed, but just because you have a higher chance to get picked doesn't mean there isn't a chance you won't get picked. My guess is that we're gonna have most, if not all active CV players participating by the third wave of invites latest. We're not that many after all.
  13. Appparently participation in the initial wave is much higher than expected, hence why they're withholding the second wave of invites for now.

    Fine. On a more serious note, my guess as to what gimmick RN CVs are gonna have is multi armament aircraft. They have already talked about trialing fighter-bombers with the RTS gameplay in a Q&A before, now that CVs are focused solely on striking the concept only becomes more feasible.

    A few pointers for those testing: - Forget DDs with anything but rockets - Forget everything but DDs with rockets, Tiny Tims are the exception but are inferior to other options in my experience - Tiny Tims are very accurate but take a long time to narrow, approach from front or back for maximum effect - HVARs are better against DDs due to higher target area saturation imo, with an entire squad expended you can easily take off half the health of a DD or more if RNG favors you - Attack from the side using IJN rockets - Midway DBs have the most reliable DoT (practically every attack you get at least one fire) along with decent alpha - Haku has AP DBs, can citadel everything but DDs - Midway torps are incredibly slow (33kn), plan a healthy amount of lead - Haku has DW torps (41kn) for those that haven't noticed - Ranger stock planes are garbage. Upgrade everything first using those millions of free exp you get for every CV game before playing (if you even want to) - In general you want to attack BBs, farm dat damage until no tomorrow (FINALLY WE HAVE AN ANTI-BB CLASS!) - Don't play Shima. Down that path lies only pain and sadness due to increased (yes, increased) CV spotting - CVs are about as game deciding as before, but your playstyle is a lot safer (in fact it is practically risk free). Do not carelessly rush your hull into the enemy team - AA has a sweet spot mechanic in the middle between long and close range where it is most effective and will throw puffs straight into your path. If you stay out of that AA is almost worthless - Slowing down makes your turn much more tight and can make you stick close to your target indefinitely if used right. This is why DBs are the most reliable weapon imo

    Just a heads up: If you try to steer your CV manually even once auto-pilot becomes bugged and thus nonfunctional for the rest of the match. At least that just happened to me. EDIT: Nevermind, tried manual steering now and auto pilot works fine afterwards. No idea what happened there. Think I'm getting the hang of it now. Can consistently rack up well over 150k damage with Midway. I believe with a bit more practice I can hit 200k average damage. EDIT2: The bug can be seen here:
  20. Apparently trying to manually steer your CV causes auto pilot to become permanently bugged and nonfunctional for the rest of the match. Not sure if reproducible but it just happened to me. The controls are incredibly awkward. I suspect the hybrid keyboard and mouse direction controls are at fault. EDIT: Subsequent use of manual steering didn't result in that bug appearing again. Weird. Controls after several games of accustoming to them feel better but are still sluggish. EDIT2: Bug can be seen here:

    Apparently captain skills are currently causing the servers to crash. The main problem I have with the rework are the controls. Christ, the controls just feel so incredibly off I actually don't know how to describe it. I'm suspecting the hybrid keyboard and mouse direction controls are at least partially at fault.
  22. Active CV players who have gotten an email have priority when it comes to access to the rework test, thus no idea why there is any reason to complain. (At least according to official info, whether you trust that or not is up to you.)
