    USS Helena once lit herself on fire by firing her main guns. If anything the fire chance in this game is far too low to be realistic. Almost everything on a warship of that era was flammable and stuff pretty much immediately burst into flames on a successful hit.

    Imo the extra survivability alone is worth putting him on a USN DD. Just ignore EM and go for a standard DD build.

  6. Ah, yeah, I totally forgot that is a thing. Eh, I'll probably decide on a whim once I can get my hands on another one. Meanwhile in AL, Fallen Wings has begun for CN and JP. EN players get one more day to prepare. And boy to I recommend to prepare. The event has actually become even more grindy than it already was. But you guys also get the event tuned down a bit which is good since Fallen Wings was actually pretty difficult. Minneapolis' design is a bit overdone but she is apparently a must have according to preliminary stats at least for EN players. The new Bensons meanwhile will get you arrested. EDIT: , got arrested within my first 6 draws. PLEASE MP-SAN, I CAN EXPLAIN!

    Realistic Mode

    Honestly for those thinking that a "realistic" or "simulator" mode is a good idea, let me crush your hopes and dreams: You are asking for mechanics (such as e.g. sea, weather and atmospheric conditions along with their effects on ballistics) to be implemented that have to be written from the ground up. In fact we're essentially talking about a complete rewrite of the game with only art assets retained but practically nothing else. Also we don't even know if the current engine is capable of supporting such mechanics. Waves, curvature of the Earth, atmospheric condition simulations etc. could all be things that the engine simply says no to. That leaves two alternatives: 1. Develop a new game engine. 2. Port the game to an already existing engine which supports such features. Regardless of what path you choose, you're looking at a development time that can literally span several years ONLY for the engine. If the existing engine supports such features we can maybe cut development time down to one and a half years, though I would lean more towards two years. Then you have to consider that this will be a massive undertaking in terms of manpower. Every game designer, software engineer, quality assurance tester etc. who works on this project will not work on anything else. This naturally includes current WoWs, meaning updates will be far less frequent than they currently are. New ship lines for example already take several months to release, taking away manpower could easily double that time. Now ofc WG could just hire an entirely new team to do this, but it'd drive the cost of this project, which is already very high, way off the charts. I'm sure they could afford it, I highly doubt that they'd want to tho. You cannot just half this project either because that will make nobody happy. Having an arcade game and a simulator caters to two entirely different audiences. If you do something that sits in between, you will quite frankly miss both. The arcade guys will say that it's too complex, the simulator guys will say that it's a bad simulation. This makes the chance for profit extremely questionable at best. However even if you pull it off, simulations have always catered to niche audiences. WoWs already has comparatively low player numbers that are currently neither rising nor falling, meaning it has largely saturated the market. For a simulation that number, and with it your profit, will inevitably fall. So we have something that would take a long time, a lot of manpower and a ton of money to develop while your chances of making a profit out of it are marginal at best. Have fun pitching that to the board, I'd be surprised if your job wasn't in peril afterwards.

  9. Played it today. First with randoms, then with a bunch of SCRUBS (thanks for having me). Honestly I don't think it's even possible for enemy ships to reach the third tower in time anymore? In one random game I played almost everyone ed up and got themselves killed early. We still got away with a 2 star victory. The only real "challenge" is killing Gorgon in time as others have already stated. And that's fairly easily done by hiding a cruiser behind enemy lines just like last year.
  10. Yura probably. I have plenty of combat ready capital ships, CAs and DDs. Meanwhile the only CL I frequently use is Abukuma, a second one couldn't hurt.
  11. You know as well as I do that this will not end with CVs sticking to the fleet, especially considering the concealment upgrade is no longer available for CVs and CE is getting nerfed. Exposing your CV to surface fire is a very quick way to get killed, rework or not. Nah, this will end up with an AA ship or two having to cuddle the CV, depriving the rest of the fleet of AA cover and making gameplay for said ships utterly boring. Just like "good old times". Preventing CV snipes isn't solely for the benefit of CVs, in fact you can already just dump fighters all over yourself to the detriment of the team.

    I doubt many will have fun waiting for well over 10 seconds for a shell to hit at <10km ranges.

    Amount of credits rewarded will likely result in a code or sth. Better keep track of them.
  15. Huh, that's weird. It worked fine for me. Didn't mean to sound patronizing, sorry about that. Yeah, IJN CVs require hilariously long drop distances for their torps to arm (another reason why I believe Haku is vastly inferior to Midway). To do a cross drop with those you're probably going to need a lot of boost saved up to speed away, turn and then speed back.

    On the other hand Shchors can spam at fairly long range while Helena has no choice but to get up close and personal. Though really, if you play either situation perfectly it more or less comes down to how many goats the enemy has sacrificed to RNGesus. In my opinion Helena has displaced Fiji as the best T7 silver cruiser, though not by much. The match impact you can have is hilariously devastating because you simply don't give a about anything. BBs will curse your name as you bathe them in fire, cruisers just wither away in a hail of HE shells and both CVs and DDs better learn to avoid you quickly or suffer the consequences. The only thing that you cannot really deal with are top tier aircraft, but then again no T7 ship, not even Atlanta, does well against T9 planes and you at least always have DFAA to fall back onto. She requires a far more thorough investment in both captain and player skill tho.

    If you like the Helena you're probably gonna like the Atlanta as well. Both have very similar requirements and playstyles but Atlanta is much more extreme in that regard.

    My superstition is that the moment my team has more Shimas I've pretty much lost by default. Could be true, could be false. I don't think anyone can really say that she performs well both on paper and in battle.

    Shimakaze. She is just plain useless in literally every situation. The guns are bad, the torps are bad, speed, maneuverability and concealment are very meh, utility offers nothing special and AA is bad. There is literally nothing this ship does that other DDs cannot do better. Want gun power? Every other line has you covered. Torpedoes? Fletcher and Gearing say hi. Utility? Again the USN line has her beat hard. Speed and maneuverability? If you wanna go fast, go for the Russians, don't actually know which DD line is the most maneuverable currently. AA? Grozovoi will make CVs cry. Whenever I see a match in which my team has a lot of Shimas while the enemy team has stuff like Z-52s, Gearings, Grozos and Harus, I pretty much assume we've lost by default.

  23. Honestly that'd depend on the speed of the fighters. I was thinking that they have the same speed as attack planes which can reach well over 200kn with boost, that'd make such a delay necessary. If they're quite a bit slower then the delay can be far lower or completely removed as well.
