Console Ready CV's....We all told you so ;-)

On the other hand they have no choice but to more or less keep it that way since they want CVs to be more popular. A reworked CV that cannot deal damage is practically useless. A CV that has long flight times is incredibly boring to play. A CV that actually has to deal with plane losses is apparently too punishing for WG's target audience. The problems with the rework are tied with its fundamentals. I actually quite enjoyed the gameplay as well, but I just don't see a viable way for it to be balanced while making the class ready for a broader audience.

Bad CV players and their increasing frequency

What you're complaining about can be applied to literally every class with their individual less match impact made up for by sheer numbers. At least CVs are easily countered. E.g. just because all my DDs are completely and suicide at the start of the match, leaving my team in a practically unwinnable position, doesn't mean DDs are broken and should be nerfed or sth along those lines. As for waiting on the rework, I can assure you that the skill gap in testing has actually proven to be much worse than it is currently so. And finally regarding player numbers, nothing has changed. People prophesying that players will leave the game because of CVs are still waiting for that to happen 2 years later. Ironically tho the rework on the other hand has a pretty big chance of killing this game.

Bwahahahahaha Boy, do I have bad news for you. - literally no counterplay options - increase in scouting due to higher flexibility and number of CVs - ludicrous increase in damage potential - more survivability due to CV access to heal and DoT literally only lasting a few seconds on them - massive increase in skill gap Imagine a Conqueror that is more accurate, attacks more often and has both more HE penetration, alpha strike and DoT chance while being essentially unkillable. That's pretty much reworked CVs in a nutshell.

Were the buffs to Hipper and Eugen enough?

I think there is one thing missing from your analysis about the Hipper sisters' gunnery: Range and the means to use it. Note that I played Hipper pre-buff btw. Hipper gunnery for me at least was very comfortable to utilize even at maximum range while still being agile enough to dodge and weave around BB salvos at such distances. If you do take a hit you have the HP pool to sustain it. Also her top hull has an excellent AA suite which will tear through same/lower tier aircraft and can even give pause to higher tier ones (I never bother with hydro on any cruiser, even on the German ones). This makes Hipper an excellent second line support that is incredibly difficult to dislodge by any opponent, however that also naturally means she has little in the way of impacting the match if the first line falls flat. Your only practical option then is to kite away and farm damage to save your scoreboard placement while hoping the enemy is dumb enough to throw (which to be fair happens quite often nowadays). In a good team a well played Hipper is a great asset. In a bad team a well played Hipper is nothing but a selfish damage farmer. Does this make her weak? Imo no, but I can see why people would argue otherwise.
  6. One of the biggest reasons why high tiers is so campy and why low/mid tiers are much more dynamic is precisely because low/mid tier BBs can't bow tank, forcing you to keep moving, attempt to dodge and angle your belt. Thus WG should actually nerf the bow armor of high tier BBs instead. Precisely what they intended to do ages ago, but ofc they were shut down by all the BBabies whining about it.

Why would anyone ever play high tier CVs?

No they won't. It'd be an untenable hit to their reputation (which is a lot more important than you probably believe) and they'd actually have to money refund everyone impacted. Stick with an AA cruiser who can project a ~17km bubble of you to aircraft and you'll be more than fine. Current CVs can be counterplayed so easily it's not even funny. AA is easily spoofed and dodged with a bit of foresight and timing. The trick is to never get hit by AA in the first place.

Aren't there a few cruiser citadel plates that are around 127mm thick?
  9. What worries me is that they've pretty much only ever done 2nd Key Animation (basically doing clean up work). If you look at the trailer for Grisaia: Phantom Trigger on the other hand the animation quite frankly looks rather awkward in my opinion. Quite often mouth movement doesn't even sync up with the voice lines (although to be fair I don't even know if what is being said is what is actually being spoken in the scene or whether it is just a preview of the VA). Tho it noticeably improves in the action scenes during the latter part of the trailer, so there's still hope.

Why would anyone ever play high tier CVs?

AA actually became STRONGER in test 3 due to a number of tweaks. AA in test 1 and 2 remained the same. The drop pattern for TBs also more or less remained the same. Something you probably don't know is that AA decides how fast your reticle narrows down in USN TBs, meaning that if you start your run outside of AA it will narrow down to straight lines by the time your TBs hover above the water. Since you can close the distance in less than 5 seconds that also gives your target no time to react. As I said, the skill gap has become a lot worse. Rockets are hilarious. You do realize that his list is full of bull and in subsequent statements/interviews WG would only ever cite low player numbers as the sole reason for reworking CVs? Clearly the skill gap hasn't been fixed by the new system considering the difference in our experiences. In fact as I stated above it has actually become far worse. Scouting has actually become more excessive due to planes flying extremely fast, being able to reach any position on the map in less than 30 seconds AND there being more than one CV per side. A current CV has a "reload" time of about 3-4 minutes. A reworked CV cuts that down to less than 30 seconds as already stated above, with the attack itself taking around a minute. Damage has also shifted from alpha strike (which for reworked CVs is still decent btw) to DoT, making reworked CVs deal more damage per attack overall, in addition to being far more accurate. So yeah, reworked CVs actually deal far more damage than current CVs. Hardly surprising considering that is their sole role now. The new tier progression naturally results in huge power jumps, but then again one could argue that overall gameplay always remains the same, aka there is no skill progression to speak of. RTS games have never been visual monsters. If you play an RTS for its visuals, you're doing it wrong. Gameplay is overall more cut off from surface ship players because for you they are nothing but targets to feast on while they can do nothing about it. Likewise you have no interaction with your own team because attempting to give them air cover is both ineffective and a waste of time. Reworked CVs are locked in a pure damage race where the only thing that matters is nuking more ships than your opponent. That said I have to give credit where credit is due. The rework does look pretty good. That's pretty much the only positive thing I can say about it however. The new AA skills are completely useless because AA in itself is useless. Complexity curve is practically nonexistent due to gameplay remaining the same from T6 onward. Gameplay being enjoyable is subjective, however the goals listed are laughable. Surface ships have had all of their countermeasures against CVs taken away while CVs themselves have ironically become more flexible. Ruining the game experience for others is an inevitability in a PvP game anyway so moot point there. So yeah, for the most part the rework fails WG's stated reasons on why to rework CVs. Big surprise.

    Rework of CVs

Let me show you why this is a bad idea:

Good DD players - Asashio - yes or no?

Seems rather hypocritical coming from you.
  13. The thing about rework testing is that it actually simulates a much more active environment where everyone is always on the move. The few players I've seen pretty much always tried to use island cover or camp bow on which was an automatic death sentence. Whereas e.g. previously a Worcester behind island cover was something a CV player simply couldn't dislodge, it does nothing but ring the dinner bell in the rework. In that light I would actually expect reworked CVs to perform BETTER on the live server.
  14. It has actually gotten worse because in current CVs you at least have auto drop. Since most of the playerbase too is a complete and utter potato auto drop practically guarantees some damage for potato CVs. In the rework however I've seen two CVs struggle to kill a single 10k HP Zao. I'm not even joking. The Zao was the last ship with about 3 minutes remaining on the clock. Neither CV could hit a ing thing so he just waltzed up to them (in a straight line no less, he wasn't even maneuvering) and killed them both. I wish I could make this up.
  15. Oh, you've seen nothing yet. Wanna know what happens when every CV player in the match is at least decent?
  16. El2aZeR

Thoughts on the stock DM range?

Balancing reasons. SHAP shells, decent HE along with a ludicrous rof for a CA more than justifies the lack of range.
  17. Honestly I was already able to pull off amazing with the Ranger. I think I had like 150k average damage which is more than what I have in my current Midway. Here's a typical Ranger result of mine in test 3: Langley too was pretty good with about 80-100k average. Only problem with low tier CVs is that they felt like a chore to play. So yeah, no one is safe.

Good DD players - Asashio - yes or no?

I believe that the thing about premium DDs is people who tend to fail in DDs often don't buy them for obvious reasons. This means on average premium DDs likely have a higher pool of skilled players playing them. Meanwhile everyone can fail their way up the e.g. USN DD line and drag Benson stats down. Likewise population is a big factor in the percentage statistics. The top 5% of Benson players e.g. encompasses a much higher number of players than the top 5% of Asashio players which has a potentially more negative impact on overall statistics. I can only reiterate that global statistics are more or less worthless in judging the potential impact that a DD can have due to them being extremely unforgiving to misplays. This inevitably means that no matter how good a DD really is, the average playerbase will drag their stats down into the abyss.
  19. This. Let me demonstrate what happened in test 2 to a Yamato: And while they nerfed the bomb damage a bit in test 3 this is still easily achievable by aiming for fires instead of pure alpha strike. Also in test 3 aircraft were almost twice as fast. No worries tho, this happens to every BB, not just the Yamato.
  20. El2aZeR

Why would anyone ever play high tier CVs?

I have well over twice my CV average damage in rework testing. When test 3 ended I was sitting on about 250k in the Midway. I could probably have had a lot more had I been focused on actually farming damage instead of going for low health targets like DDs. In fact I was already capable of reaching 100k in the Langley. As for DD play, well, it is about to die if the rework goes through. Reworked CVs are even better at countering DDs than current CVs are. You are not the only one who has participated in rework testing. Here is a typical result of me playing in rework test 3: If that doesn't scream overpowered to you, I honestly don't know what will. Wanna know something funny? The skill gap in the rework is even worse because skilled CV players dominate in ways current CV players can only dream of. Meanwhile potato CV players are even more useless than current potato CV players. This is demonstrated above. Citation needed. Oh, I agree. The rework however completely devalues all AA as it is so hilariously easy to spoof and dodge AA it's not even funny. Fighters too can be easily cheesed without effort. Any countermeasure against aircraft simply doesn't work and quite frankly for the rework to succeed it has to stay that way because if AA were actually reliable reworked CVs would be completely useless. See that above? I lost a measly 5 DBs in an almost 20 min match. 5 DBs. Let that sink in for a moment. In another match several Worcesters were unable to shoot down a single plane while I was killing them in my Midway. What chances do you think other ships have?

Good DD players - Asashio - yes or no?

There is no speed upgrade and everyone can have those flags, which for the Asashio gives a paltry 1.75kn speed advantage. To put this into perspective a Benson has a base speed of 38kn.
  22. El2aZeR

Good DD players - Asashio - yes or no?

Ah, yes, RPF totally negates the tremendous speed advantage enemy DDs have. I forgot about how RPF increases the speed of any DD by 5kn. And again, doesn't seem to work out all that well for you now, doesn't it Mr. 47%?
  23. El2aZeR

Good DD players - Asashio - yes or no?

Which is fine. It proves that the Asashio can perform, no one denies that it cannot. Again, every ship can perform in the right hands because average player skill is so abysmal. I can only reiterate that some people can e.g. make the Ranger work with fine stats to back it up, doesn't mean that the Ranger is a good CV tho. Objectively speaking every other T8 premium DD will serve you better if you want to impact the match (Le Terrible being the one sole exception I believe). If someone likes the IJN torp playstyle, Asashio will suit them just fine. If one is looking for a competitive DD on the other hand, Asashio is one of the worst choices out there.

Why would anyone ever play high tier CVs?

The problem with the rework however is that it is inherently unbalanced. Making CVs focus on dealing damage along with DoT can only mean one of two things. Either CVs are far too powerful because they can set reliably set DoT while dealing damage, or they are completely useless as they possess no other role. Current CV play is focused entirely on spotting as you have correctly deduced. This is to balance out their damage potential which can be completely shut down by the enemy team, giving them a role to play even when incapable of dealing damage. I more than understand why people may not like this playstyle, when you are being shut down CV play is the most boring thing ever. Still, I can still find enjoyment supporting my team and contribute to victory even without a high scoreboard placement, probably much like yourself considering your statements in the opening post. There is no such thing in the rework however. The primary and only role of reworked CVs is to deal damage via DoT. This gives us the aforementioned all or nothing situation with no middle ground to be found. As such the rework can only ever end in failure one way or another. Also the last time we got something that was "community balanced" it was the GZ.
