And I usually fire my torps at typical spots a DD may take in a cap. Sometimes I find success with that, more often than not I don't. Such a play is situational and as such not really a strength. In fact because DDs and cruisers will usually wander those paths first chances are they'll get spotted before even reaching the BBs. If that is all the Asashio has over other DDs then it is even worse off than previously thought. Tell me, how often do you hit nothing or deal completely inconsequential damage and are now waiting on BOTH your torp reload and your TRB?
-
Does he need to press a key when he just sees the torps? He can be pressing either for any number of reasons. He wants to stop and camp bow on, he wants to turn because he is avoiding an obstacle, he may want to get his rear guns into action etc. etc. etc. A target that is sailing straight for long enough for a torpedo to hit at 16km+ is incredibly rare even when it is captained by a complete potato. It plays a part certainly, but if that were the only cause then the Fletcher must be a horrible torp boat.
-
Which he will then dodge by just pushing either WASD key once, not to mention the gigantic gaps your torps will inevitably develop over such a distance will sometimes allow even the biggest BBs to dodge broadside without even knowing your torps were there. Also most BBs have better concealment than 16km, which means you will ALSO inevitably flash up to him if he is in stealth unless you like to torp blind which has a marginal chance of success at best. Aka Asashio isn't any better at this than any other DD. You are even ignoring basic game mechanics at this point to create an argument. You must really be grasping at straws. Remember what I said about DD players and Asashio? Think about that for a moment.
-
Yeah, right. It's not like there is a tremendous gap in experience between us. Asashios are easy pickings in any DD except for other IJN torp boats. It is extremely common to not even lose a quarter of your HP in a hybrid or gunboat DD before taking one down. I have killed Asashio players that are statistically far better than you or Pikko for that matter. To say it wasn't even close would be an understatement. Ballistics are objectively mediocre as the RU DDs exist. And you're basically saying "if the enemy misplays like a dumb I can kill him!". Guess what, that doesn't make a good ship because that applies to any ship. Did I say "super skilled"? The point is that these people who buy an Asashio usually know at least the basics of DD play. With tech tree ships you cannot even guarantee that. Please tell me what I JUST stated about stats and premium ships.
-
Except hybrid DDs are at least equally good at that by having a faster base reload to begin with. That is because potatoes are dragging tech tree DD stats down. A potato usually won't invest money into something he fails miserably at, hence why there is very likely a larger ratio of players who actually know how to play DDs with an Asashio than, say, a Benson. It's the same reason why stats of newer vessels tend to skyrocket, only to fall in line later as potatoes climb their way up. Premium ships are generally not in "danger" of that happening. Of course. Almost everything can work in randoms due to the thoroughly abysmal average skill of the playerbase. And fun is entirely subjective and as such up to the individual. People cannot tell me however that the Asashio is objectively a DD that has a lot of match influence when almost every one of her contemporaries is straight up superior in that regard.

Ragequit because enemy teams are too bad
El2aZeR replied to Cippalippus's topic in General Discussion
Seriously, just look at this bull: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/360366421?t=01h42m36s Everyone just ing suicides to absolutely no effect and literally every enemy cruiser was running DFAA (a rarity. Ofc my cruisers weren't. "You can't counterplay CVs", "better CV always wins" lol). A ing Gadjah even lost a straight up fight with a Shira because he didn't know what guns are. My only solace is that I embarrassed someone thoroughly on stream, even when he tries to play it off as "luck". ¬_¬ Thank god this won't be a problem with the rework anymore. With a reworked CV I could've just murdered everything at D then take it myself.- 48 replies

I don't have problems fighting BBs out in the open with even the most squishy cruisers either, yet that says more about the standard of play of BBs than the power of cruisers. Fact remains skill is usually what decides engagements. A Gearing will fail against a Shima if he sucks at the game. Does that mean Gearing is inferior to Shima in general in a straight up fight? So unless your target is low HP you're dooming yourself by initiating a fight against any hybrid DD. Even at low HP I would be careful, I've gunned down Shimas with less than 9k HP remaining in my Gearing. You don't need to gun them down. Just throw some torps in their path and at worst you'll make them turn and expose themselves to your 5 BB mafia. Or just ambush them as you would any BB. Cruisers are your most dangerous foes now that they've done away with BB AP pens and some of them are among the most influential ships in this game, as such not being able to fight or even hinder them makes you a huge liability to your team. Except Asashio is completely at murdering and zoning actually skilled BBs just like every other DD. The issue lies with torpedoes as a weapon itself, no amount of gimmicks is going to change that. Meanwhile every other DD can farm braindead BBs too while offering so much more potential match influence it isn't even funny. Ofc they do. For skilled players it is a ship to shut down their brains with. For bad players it is to make them feel like they've accomplished something even when they've accomplished nothing.

Ragequit because enemy teams are too bad

Meanwhile on my end: Feels like I have to drag my ing team over the finish line kicking and screaming half the time. And in half of that I usually fail at doing so even in a CV. So yeah, I wish I had your problems.- 48 replies

Aircraft aim is independent of the actual drop circle, leading to extremely wonky behavior when attacking over obstacles as Fara did. Is ready for release comrade!

EDIT
-
You FEEL like other DDs aren't as effective.
-
Gun caliber doesn't matter as outlined already. Other DDs do it better. Just because you "feel" like they don't doesn't mean it is true.
-
You act like Asashio is the only DD that can hit cruisers and BBs with guns. Guess what, other DDs are more potent at that as well. Good shell ballistics (and lets face it, IJN shell ballistics aren't even that great) literally only favor you in DD fights unless you can't aim in general. There are absolutely no issues hitting cruisers and BBs even at near max range with the floaty USN 5"/38s as they do not have the maneuverability to dodge your steady stream of fire. Did you even think that through when you wrote that?
-
I mean, so far we've had: - Asashio has good concealment The one thing that's true, although it is also meaningless for the most part. Especially considering some gunboats can reach 5.5km stealth nowadays. - Asashio has good torps Well, kinda true. Your ability to only hit BBs pretty much means you're powerless against half the enemy team but at least they're stealthy, hit hard and you get TRB. It should be noted however that torps from hybrid DDs, which are by definition already more versatile than an Asashio will ever be, are also much more versatile and as such can be considered much superior. - Asashio has good guns Literally some of the worst guns in the game, even with the recent alpha buff (which in reality only reverted a nerf done prior. Guess what, IJN DDs were worthless even before that). - Asashio is small Very slightly slimmer but also longer than most comparable DDs. When kiting away vertical is much more relevant than horizontal dispersion. - Asashio is fast Literally one of the slowest DDs in the game. - Asashio is maneuverable A Gearing, one of the most sluggish DDs to exist, is more maneuverable than an Asashio. - Asashio has good AA Literally some of the worst AA in the entire game. Is there any trait that hasn't been called good about this piece of garbage yet? Maybe someone will make the claim that she has good armor next?
-
And that ONE DD caused us to lose the match, meaning how well the other two played was meaningless. Your point was that no single player in another class can be the cause for default losses, I thus fail to see how I am supporting your point. EDIT Just because your CV can't scout and strike doesn't mean you have to let the enemy CV scout and strike. The potential impact of a CV on a match can be directly influenced by the entire enemy team, not just the opposing CV.

0.8.0 is an end of the game as we know it. Let's see what it cost us
El2aZeR replied to Humorpalanta's topic in General Discussion
Hint: The enemy has a CV too. As such your ability to not lose your team points is meaningless as your enemy isn't going to either. And quite frankly if the enemy CV can cap your team must have seriously ed up. (Probably a good time to mention that taking caps in CVs is a fairly common occurence for me nowadays and I don't even run CE on most of my CVs. That's how hilariously abysmal average play has become.) A CV without planes might as well be considered dead. -
This is honestly quite interesting as I started playing CVs sometime at the start of the new year and never got to use USN 2 TBs either. Guess that's why I'm remembering wrong. Then again I abhorred setups without fighters even back then so maybe that was just that. Still, huge balancing changes were made in beta that affected the game for the better. A couple weeks worth of testing and PTS can't even compare. Even if we assume that the rework is balance-able (it isn't) it should undergo at least another 3 months of internal and external testing at least to work out the biggest issues. How e.g. WG never noticed how completely useless AA was during testing is beyond me.
-
Honestly I am more amazed that this guy can get almost 800 average exp in Mino with such a playstyle. I expected half that at most.
-
In more hardcore PvP games it is common courtesy to say "gg" at the end of the match regardless of in what manner you won or lost. Some people just like to transfer that to every game they play. Personally I just write "wp team" in team chat if my team is winning by a landslide and has shown skill while doing so.
-
Oi, your words, not mine. Even T4 CVs could be considered broken as they're capable of hilarious damage potential depending on RNG. Thus as per your suggestion it would be best to not introduce reworked CVs at all.

Funny and sad game situations shown with map screenshots.
El2aZeR replied to albinbino's topic in General Discussion
Just saw a ing Haru of all things trying to play like a torp boat. Inevitably he lost us the match. This is why WG should punish bad play harder, but we all know that'll never happen. -
I was already able to surpass my current Midway average damage in the Ranger (~150k average). That's on a lower tier too, so percentage-wise its a lot more damage done than it would seem at first. I guess you wanna disable everything but T4 CVs?
-
So none of them used DFAA for you. That's too bad. Should I make a whine thread every time a teammate doesn't cover my back in a shooter and I get shot as a result, too? Sometimes you get punished for the mistakes of your teammates. That's how all team based games work. That was not what you were lying about tho. How about you just admit that you were wrong about Hinden and all the KM BBs? Is that too big of a hit to your pride? "Baiting" in itself implies a misplay. And considering how easy it is to just wait until the planes can't escape anymore then push a button misplaying that should result in instant, unrewarding death. A DM is well capable of killing USN TBs without DFAA if you've invested a few of your points into it (AFT + AA range is enough in my experience) and maneuver/position correctly. Just save your DFAA for the AP DBs. I've gotten nuked by an enemy CV exactly once in my DM. And that was entirely my fault, I tunnelvisioned too hard and didn't notice the DBs creeping up until it was too late. That said, I agree that AP bombs are stupid and should be removed (and that has been the general consensus among skilled CV players ever since their introduction). However that doesn't mean CVs themselves as they are now are overpowered. I am well aware of what CVs are capable of, hence why I also know they're overperforming due to a lot of factors that have nothing to do with CVs. EDIT: Oh, no, look. Two default losses because this thought Haru is a torp boat and this thought taking free caps is for pussies. I guess we need to remove DDs now. Your claim that no single player in another class can be the cause for default losses is laughable to the extreme.

Precisely. That was IN beta, not on release. I started playing on the very first day of beta as I was fortunate enough to get access. CBT ran from March to July, OBT from July to September. Release was mid September 2015. I started my CV career a few months after that as I read up on how to play them beforehand, at which point: - mirror MM was implemented - IJN strike loadouts were gone (they were removed sometime after the OBT transition afaik) - IJN TBs got the converging drops - TB drop distance and damage has already been nerfed - strafing was a thing So CVs themselves were more or less on the same power level as they are now. I did however forget the addition of strafing out.
