MrConway played a bit of RN CVs on today's stream. General stuff: - rockets and bombs have a big elliptical drop similar to AP bombs - TBs have converging drop, arming distance is in between USN and IJN, torp range is incredibly short. Torp speed seems pretty fast - Level Bombers (LBs) instead of DBs, attack similar to RFs - these stats are without upgrades and captain skills Audacious (T10) Implacable (T8) Other stuff: - hybrid ships "are more likely to appear now" - DDs are supposed to seek AA cover against CVs - fighters only attack you for 30 seconds, using boost to run away is a viable strategy if you get tagged - jets won't be making a return - no switching between AP and HE bombs, is specific national flavor -
Ah, I thought you mean entirely different games like NavyField, War Thunder or Steel Ocean. My bad. :)

This is a pretty common misconception with current CV play. A CV's health pool is measured in plane reserves, not the HP value of their hull. And to offset the advantage of being unable to lose all their "HP" in one go, planes need to go in harms way every time they attack. Imagine if every time you fire your main guns you stand a chance to lose a chunk of health. Losing a squad also adds another ~30 seconds (which imo should be a bit longer still) to your already huge reload time of ~3 minutes. The primary problem with this however is that pretty much all ships need to specialize into AA to become effective against aircraft along with WG introducing a hard counter to AA cruisers in the form of AP bombs. This not only means that AA ships actually become targets themselves if they do not run the appropriate skills/upgrades and DFAA, CVs generally have too little opposition even if they do as other ships aren't necessarily inclined to spec into AA either. And which games are those supposed to be? Genuinely curious here as I can't think of a single one. War Thunder comes to mind but that one is still hilariously incomplete to say the least and it does actually have controllable aircraft which smash the out of surface ships. An age of sail game has only surface ships. Color me surprised.

Nah, only for CCs sadly. I kinda like the waifu Enterprise tho. AP bombs + hilarious rocket spread is gonna be fun. -
I suggest increasing the attack run size of Lexington rocket planes to 3 to balance out her massive initial spread. Or just tighten down the initial spread. It's larger than the one on Midway which makes no sense at all.

Can confirm. New problem tho: Reduced number of planes not only means pitiful DPS (you can easily make an extra attack run while being tagged by fighters), fewer planes get shot down, too. -

On the other hand it is well within the realms of possibility that CVs are going to get buffed because the average potato can't do well with them. I wouldn't trust much in balancing a fundamentally broken concept.

You need to stay ~10 seconds in the circle before the fighter starts attacking. That means you're only really safe in the middle of the circle. Be at the edge of it and the enemy CV will have to take a seriously stupid approach path to get tagged by fighters. -
15.7km is too short. 18km on the other hand is too long. Ideal range would be ~16.5km which is what the Worcester has. It's a dilemma, really.

I love it when my team dies early in the rework. It means I can pull stupid like this. (No solo warrior sadly because the enemy CV took too long to kill my last teammate. T_T) I'll upload footage of this match later. It is hilarious. -

It has only been about a year which is actually a pretty short dev time for something like this. A good rule of thumb is that you need one month of development per mechanic and the CV rework introduces plenty of those. Remember, just ~1 1/2 years ago they told us CVs are in a good enough state that they can release new premium CVs. Honestly I believe this is more of a corporate decision rather than a developer one. A blind man can tell that the rework is nowhere near ready for release. -

Also note that that green cover is useless because the enemy CV can just summon his own fighter to deal with that. So fighter cover effectively doesn't exist in the game anymore. Have fun!- 47 replies

They actually reduced the flooding duration (used to be 30 seconds). Clearly reworked CVs needed more survivability. xD -
Preemptive WASD just like with torps. Flak walls are always put directly in your path at certain intervals, so you can spoof it by flying like you're drunk.

+1 I agree that switching to your hull will be something that is rarely done, but it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
