Kek, it's official. That Atlanta only has good long range AA is a feature.
-
As @ShinGetsu already pointed out, if you actually pay attention to whether they're attacking you or not Haku torp spamming practically has no effect. And besides, BBs bunching up like s then running for the border tends to happen regardless of what the CV (or anyone) does nowadays. It's like the update attracted every braindead back to the game. Had to play against several Hakus doing this stuff yesterday. Never even got hit once. That said I would increase both attack preparation time and cooldown slightly to tone the TB spamming down a bit.
-
Hasn't that been every year?

AFT is useless in general. Those who can't dodge flak will get their squad wiped regardless. It is the players who can actually dodge flak you have to watch out for and against those only continuous DPS helps. As such BFT + MAA is the way to go. This however also requires that your ship has good AA in the first place. Zao is not among those ships, so no matter how much you invest in AA you're gonna get trashed by a skilled CV player.

The effect of Haku torp spamming can indeed be practically negated by actually paying attention as I found out today sailing my DM (because @Saiyko wanted a taste of the torp spam instead ) against multiple Hakus playing this way. Still, it is rather... annoying to deal with to say the least. Thankfully it can be fairly easily fixed by simply giving the Haku 4x TB option a longer attack preparation time and cooldown. Whether WG will actually do that though is another story. -
Keep in mind that this is happening WHILE everyone who has half a brain has gone into a full or at least partial AA spec, which was rarely, if ever the case with the old CVs. Thus it stands to reason that if reworked CVs were thrown into a meta in which barely anyone goes AA spec or even uses DFAA like it was the case previously, they would get even more obscene results than they do already.

This. The USN pattern can actually run parallel but you need to spend an obscene amount of time flying in a perfectly straight line for that to happen. Unless you're using something as cover for an approach you can practically forget about that as flak bursts will tear your squad apart. The good thing about USN TB squads is that they turn on a dime when you slow down along with having a short attack cooldown and preparation time, making them excellent at cross dropping targets. I found that the torp spread is also often a bit tighter than the reticle would suggest, so take that into consideration when aiming.

0.8.2 was mentioned as a potential release if I remember correctly. That's ~2 months away.

Couple more suggestions: - Make CV fighter squadrons bigger, faster and last about 30 seconds longer More often than not enemy squadrons that got tagged by my fighters simply couldn't be engaged because the fighters were too slow or the time ran out (or a combination of both). Considering fighters already have diminished value due to the fact that they can simply be made ineffective by enemy fighters they should at least destroy the squadron they've tagged. - Increase plane respawn times, but make them respawn in attack wings. Generally speaking having less than one attack wing makes that particular type of aircraft pretty much unusable. Making them respawn in attack wings would alleviate that. Increase respawn times to compensate. - Increase attack cooldown and attack preparation time or reticle sensitivity of Hakuryu 4x TBs This is to prevent torp spamming that is currently a prevalent issue. If this proves to be too harsh of a nerf, cut down the arming distance a little bit. - Increase USN TB damage by ~1k or HE bomb damage by ~3k IF my previous suggested USN TB changes are not being considered instead Should make USN CV damage output more competitive with their IJN counterparts.

Someone just called my Enterprise a "British op CV". Should I take that as a compliment?

Which could've been pretty easily solved by e.g. forcing a squad that has expended its ordinance to return after a certain time (say, 10 seconds). I agree that spotting in the old system was too oppressive but adjustments could've been made instead of letting problems fester for 3 years. Regardless, reworked CVs are here and they're likely here to stay. I honestly don't see how the spotting in the new CV system is an improvement for DDs as it is a trade rather than a direct nerf but to each his own I suppose.
-
I can't even remember the last time I got killed in a DD by a pre-rework CV either directly or indirectly. And I've met plenty. The point was to never get dropped in the first place. That Worcester spamming HE from an island? He's providing a circle ~17km in diameter that was able to straight up murder any aircraft venturing into it. On smaller maps such as Sea Of Fortune that could easily cover two caps which were then safe to take. AP bombs were broken, yes. That has been universally acknowledged by everyone except WG.

So this does not somehow imply that there were no counterplay options? I'm well aware of the deficiencies in the previous system but your statement is just straight up wrong. And contrary to popular belief previous AA wasn't pure RNG. AA was rising chance over time (the rate at which it would rise was dependent on your AA) along with a guaranteed destruction timer (which also was dependent on your AA). In addition it gave a squad a survivability buff or debuff depending on how early/late a plane was shot down to prevent random squad wipes, but this was easily abusable as you could reset a potential buff by simply switching your AA off and on again. In theory that means you would down the same number of aircraft in the same conditions every time, with exceptions remaining fairly rare. This system worked, it had room for improvement but overall it was just fine. The problems were with AA/plane progression and overreliance on DFAA which could have been easily tweaked.
-
Because pressing one button to kill all planes in your vicinity clearly was not a viable counterplay option.
-
NavyField. But that game is heavily p2w.
-
Not my experience. The ed BB s hiding behind the CV are usually the ones to die last.
-
Enterprise fighters have a bigger patrol radius than Lexington ones along with twice as many fighters per squad.

I've had some. I quickly changed their mind.

He flew straight into a flak wall I assume. That's the only way to get plane kills as a DD beyond the enemy CV loitering WAY too long. I can upload a video of me ing all over a Grozovoi with DFAA active if you want me to. In my Enterprise that has T7 planes.

IFHE doesn't affect rockets.

If you think Haku torp spam is braindead, wait until you see this:

Wanna know something funny? The mobile version of WoWs still has RTS CVs.
