Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"

Hm... True actually. I guess WG really did decide that plane kill rewards aren't miserable enough yet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
El2aZeR replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
In the old system 40 aircraft kills = 1 full HP surface ship kill. As such you'd need like 60-80 to do well on plane kills. I honestly doubt they made the effort to change that considering it was already miserable. -
impact bad CV player versus good CV player changed?
El2aZeR replied to RamboCras's topic in General Discussion
Comparing stats on wows-numbers is currently pointless as many players, including me, haven't even reached the prerequisite 80 battles yet to get listed. Also data from pre-rework CVs includes beta values in which CVs were incredibly overpowered. Even reworked CVs in testing weren't as powerful imo. Several of the top WR pre-rework CV players haven't played in ages. -
There are two main issues I have with this, although I generally agree: 1. Why the is specialization into AA still a thing? Does using survivability skills suddenly make you immune to citadels? Do the torp detection skills make you immune to torps? Skills and upgrades should have a generally small impact on AA performance, it should NOT make the difference between "lol ez target" and "lol no fly zone". This was one of the biggest issues in the RTS system and seeing WG make the same mistake over and over again is simply infuriating. 2. Minotaur has great air concealment, a long AA range that almost matches it and smoke. With the reworked system it can be difficult to ascertain what your planes are getting shot at especially with the render delay as you no longer have the luxury of the RTS overview. I believe Minotaur concealment and AA range should stay the way it is, if a CV could reliably spot a Mino over a large range Mino play would become utterly miserable. However Mino long range AA is very powerful and with smoke you can easily get squadrons wiped without knowing what is even going on. I would thus propose: - long range flak should have rising accuracy over time. Maybe start out at ~50% and rise to current values in a few seconds. This should give CVs enough time to exit Mino AA without the squadron immediately taking horrendous HP losses - smoke should cap AA accuracy to ~40%. This was a suggestion put up by someone else and I actually quite like it Again, I generally agree that AA ships should stay, well, AA ships and not target barges, but the way WG is going about it is just utterly wrong.

impact bad CV player versus good CV player changed?
El2aZeR replied to RamboCras's topic in General Discussion
Lets face it, the goal of the rework was never to address the skill gap nor any of the other problems of CV play as the fundamental concept inherently prevents that. -
They've already reworked AA. It's an entirely different system than it used to be.
-
Because WoWs in concept, alpha and beta was an entirely different game than WoWs today. What worked back then is apparently no longer accepted by the community, thus WG felt the need to change things up.
-
- save boost until inside AA - go fast while weaving - if you see unavoidable flak, slow down Depending on the situation you will only need to pass ~2 walls before you're in an attack position with DBs. With TBs or RFs you really only need to avoid a single one and that can be done simply by attacking due to the change in altitude.
-
That would completely throw the game on its head. Not saying that this isn't possible or even a bad suggestion, but the resulting game would be fundamentally different than what we have now. WG has made it very clear that they want you to concentrate on the surface engagement (which is why CVs no longer have usable fighters), so really I can't see that happening. Jesus Christ, please no.

Flak bursts are irrelevant against anything that knows how to WASD. Most players don't tho.

So how does Continous DPS AA actually work? Potential bug!?
El2aZeR replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
Wow, so flak actually deals less damage than DPS. -
Well, that explains a lot. Hood has the following base DPS values: long 107 DPS, 69% acc, ~74 true DPS long 99 DPS, 69% acc, ~68 true DPS (I'm guessing one of the long range auras is supposed to be the rockets) medium 130 DPS, 69% acc, ~90 true DPS short 37 DPS, 65% acc, ~24 true DPS +100% to DPS means doubling those values. This would make her long range aura the most powerful one at a combined 284 true DPS IF DFAA affects all her AA instead of only the short range like previously. This is still not enough to deal any lasting damage to same or higher tier aircraft. Basically Hood AA is garbage, it just becomes a bit less garbage with DFAA.
-
Suggest general accuracy buff for US Tiny Tim rockets with a lower initial and final spread to make them a more competitive option compared to HVARs. Tiny Tims could also be faster to make them a bit more different.
-
This is what I theorize as well, but on the other hand I flew multiple attacks with the same squad, so I should have been inside Hood DFAA at least once, if not multiple times. I guess his DFAA could've run out after the first attack with the initial HP of the squadron just shrugging off the damage but I didn't feel like I was losing much HP and in general I don't think Hood DFAA goes on cd that quickly. Anyone here have a Hood and can quickly tell me what the stats on the DFAA consumable are?

This might be a record of sorts... -
By the way, where do people get this myth from that Hood close range AA melts planes with DFAA? Just attacked one in my Enterprise, nuked him with AP DBs (15 hits, 65k damage) and didn't lose a single plane despite him clearly having DFAA active. He was pretty much full HP too so I'm sure he had plenty of rocket AA mounts remaining. Maybe Hood rocket AA is only good against lower tier CVs? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Yes, despite my earlier resolution to only play Midway for the duration of the hotfix I couldn't keep my hands off of my waifu Enterprise.)
-
Probably how it'll look like:
-
Actually I do not recommend playing any CV except Midway right now as getting up tiered in others is beyond painful due to the hotfix.

The IJN rockets actually have a bit more alpha than the USN ones, but they carry fewer per RF. Obviously AP bombs won't do anything against most DDs (Khaba and Haru can eat pens if you drop them at a shallow angle, but even that has questionable efficiency to say the least). Now HE bombs on the other hand.... Let me show you this: On a more serious note, having a low number of AA mounts is one of the substantial weaknesses in Grozo AA, the other being the overreliance on DFAA you already mentioned. The combination of both of these makes her utterly ineffective at AA against same tier CVs. Nowadays a RF attack from a Midway is really only to soften you up before the HE bombs come and kill you, so you're pretty much ed regardless. Thus you can either choose to blow your DFAA on the RFs and have no defense against the DBs, or you can save it and potentially not shoot down any DBs anyway because your AA mounts got worked over by rockets. Or are about to be destroyed by the first bomb strike which will always go through. And considering AA is about to be tuned down early next week again... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -

Or I just destroy a couple of AA mounts and neuter her AA completely in my initial strike. Rockets and bombs are both excellent for that. Grozo only gets 4 mounts each for medium and close range, meaning every gun destroyed cuts the respective DPS by 25%. And getting your AA guns destroyed is pretty much inevitable in a strike even with the buffed survivability. -

To be fair to get planes killed against a Grozo you really have to try to overextend or collect all the flak in a T10 CV even with Grozo being full AA + DFAA active. Not saying that the hotfix wasn't way over the top ofc but Grozo AA really is nothing special if you can dodge the flak. It becomes murderous against T8 CVs, but in a T10 one you shouldn't have any issues.
