Large scale rework of CV related skills/upgrades/mechanics
El2aZeR replied to El2aZeR's topic in General Discussion
I tried making changes that would seem acceptable by WG standards based around current mechanics, otherwise I would've gone much further with the AA values. -
- see 3x Halland on the enemy team in my Midway - oh boy dis gon b gud - spot first one - tap him immediately for 7k damage - 2nd attack also 7k - most of my planes return home - follow up strike kills him - spot the other 2 sailing together - one gets immediately killed by every teammate in the area opening up on him - the other takes ~12k damage from bombs, fighter spotting and follow up rockets finish him off Total amount of strike planes lost: ~15 The ship has absolutely no options against a same tier CV with half a brain. Thank god those are rare, eh? Might be good against T8s tho (barring Enterprise ofc).

You do not want to know. On that path lies depression and insanity.
-
@Panocek that's your area of expertise I believe.
-
Rather tasty, not gonna lie.
-
Physical rendering of hits no longer correspond with server-side hits, meaning that the game can render hits for you but the server can say no. It's been like that since the last 2 patches I believe. My clanmates have been complaining about it constantly during the T10 CBs with e.g. bombs splashing into the water all around them yet 1-2 seconds later they'd take damage. So yeah, what you see is no longer what actually is.
-
Another free kill is nice I suppose.
-
You are indeed a legend, just not for the reasons you think you are. Completely the opposite in fact. Also no matter how often you repeat yourself, that doesn't make this ship any less worthless. And I sure as am not your friend.

Yup. That's because the initial EN Fallen Wings run was the Fallen Wings rerun for every other server. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Which is precisely why I knew you would be useless. After all an actually skilled player would know that there is no sneaking up on a CV.
-
You were literally match fixing whatever matches you played in favor of the enemy team.
-
Actually I intentionally left you alone for as long as possible because I knew you would be completely useless to your team. As for your team, you are one of the primary reasons why they lost. You're not nearly as good as you think you are.
-
As shown by the gameplay footage it is a rather wide stretch to call yourself "grandmaster" to say the least.
-
Have you tried sacrificing a goat to RNGesus?
-
Yes, worthless. And in fact I have. Funny, last time I saw you you were anything but "legendary". And in fact I have it on record:
-
And now even more worthless since the CV rework.
-
So people do not want to participate in an inherently unfair contest? And you're actually admonishing them for it? Really? As for your supposed love of history, the way CVs operate now is completely ahistorical and has absolutely no basis in reality. Seems rather hypocritical to say the least. No. The reason is quite simple, even if CVs would have NO ways of attacking submarines (which isn't the case, for from it in fact), CVs would still be the safest class to play against subs. Have you ever tried to torpedo a competent CV player in a DD? And how often do you get the chance to do that? A sub is literally under the same limitations but has even worse assets to accomplish a CV snipe. Trying to cut across the entire map undetected, being useless all the while and without being killed only to attack a single target is an impossible task and a waste of time.

I use IEB and LG instead of TA as well. And I actually use the 2ndaries upgrade in slot 3 as every other upgrade is kinda useless. Well, more so than the 2ndary one anyway though that one is obviously useless as well. I actually played with stock DBs for a while to test if the faster regen time is worth it. I found that I'd rather have my DBs survive a bit longer under fire to push strikes through and thus switched back. Apparently the stock rockets have better accuracy so a case may be made to use those instead, but I seem to remember that that was changed a while ago. Gonna need to test that later when I have time.

Opinion: Perhaps CV should be allowed in KotS/Tournaments?
El2aZeR replied to steveraptor's topic in General Discussion
Simple. Take as many long range high alpha/accuracy/penetration ships as possible and just lay into enemies that thought they can do stuff like "turn in spawn", kill them off and reduce their score to 0 to win. I'm sure someone can provide a twitch clip example of that. Personally don't have it on hand. -

Alright, fine. CVs actually make the game way more campy. The reason is quite simple, even a small group of ships is utterly incapable of denying CV attacks. To be safe from CVs you essentially need to have 4-6 BBs/cruisers, aka pretty much the entire team in a competitive setting, in a single grid. Naturally such a blob limits movement and tactical flexibility. If you do not meet that requirement, well the CV is just going to farm you into oblivion. But not only that, CVs make any positional play completely obsolete by providing far too much recon. CV spotting as well as a potential first strike nowadays happens within the first 30 seconds of the match, meaning there is absolutely no time for anyone to go anywhere. In fact there are ships in this game that cannot even accelerate to full speed before CVs spot them in their spawn. In the last 12vs12 Clan Brawl there were clans speedrunning the event by winning matches via CV spotting so fast that the game actually thought they were rigging the match and applied penalties. Not to mention that positions against CVs can only be divided into "you die" and "you die faster". So no, CVs will definitely not make any competitive setting more dynamic. It will make it far more stale. The organizers of KotS themselves previously stated that having no CVs makes the matches more exciting and fun. Heck, WG staff which were co-casting the event actually agreed with that. Thus it is for the best that reworked CVs stay out of KotS and any other competitive gamemode indefinitely. Their current implementation is utterly toxic and the very definition of griefing. -
North Carolina, Iowa and Montana are still solid picks for their tier. They can be quite trollish with their accuracy however and have lost much of their utility thanks to glorious perfect-in-every-way CV rework. NC can be especially bad when it comes to the former aspect. Other than that, I've heard good things about the Ohio but haven't played it personally.

Oh yeah, she's effective no doubt. Just not a ship I'd recommend a beginner to play. Must admit, I was actually quite surprised to see your name pop up here once again. It's always nice to see familiar faces. :) The general issue with reworked CVs is that you're a damage dealer first and foremost. You have the means to provide some vision as well, but other concepts such as fighter cover etc. are pretty much dead. As you correctly stated, you practically do nothing all match but farm damage. Beyond dropping a fighter to spot (never use them to cover teammates, they're worthless in that role), some reserve management and choosing priority targets there really isn't much going on. And yes, that is indeed questionable game design to say the least. AA is actually quite weak nowadays. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the mechanics of the rework but doing stuff like killing DMs in a couple of attacks for insignificant losses has become the norm for skilled CV players. I have a couple of videos on reworked CV gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/user/Inferno083/videos Feel free to check them out for some kWaLiTy ReWoRk GaMePlAy. (Do note tho that anything below version 0.8.7 is outdated as with patch 0.8.7 AA was changed significantly.)

There is your problem. Saipan is one of the most difficult, if not outright the most difficult CV to play effectively.
