As for whoever made the decision to kill the forum, they are clearly the most furious emulators of Onan known to man, to the extent that said emulation is almost certainly visible from the outer reaches of the Kuiper Belt. I'm not certain; I do think the closing of the forum and increased crass monetisation are related though: judging by my visits yesterday to Discord, WG have a far more tame/compliant audience there, whereas the forum has a history of calling them out when they do something unacceptable, and that information/comment is easier to find (on Google for instance). My guess at this point is that the game has some time left to run, but we have entered a new phase of more shameless/dubious money extraction, and WG are keen that there are as few avenues as possible to highlight the dodgier aspects of such behaviour. Hence, the undignified haste with which the forum is being killed off.

It's perhaps worth recalling that a chunk of WG's people are in the US, and some of the more abhorrent aspects of that country hit you very hard if you're out of work - notably, your access to decent health care vanishes. It's not a good country to make dramatic gestures in, that impact your own employment. Heh! I'd never noticed that before. He's a toad, BTW - Anaxyrus americanus (formerly Rana americanus until people realised they were a different genus...).

Post-script: pretty sure it isn't going to be Discord! I've been having a sniff around the new 'forum' functionality, and - compared to the actual forum - it's pretty pi$$-poor. From what I can tell, Discord is great for voice comms (I've been using it for that in Clans etc. for ages), and bloody awful as an actual forum...

I don't think I can narrow it down to one EU person; there have been so many splendid folk on here, who've provided invaluable views and information over the years - all of them most appreciated! With the exception of people on my ignore list, you've all been part of why I've kept on returning, and why I'll miss the forum when it's gone. If we *must* pick just one, I'd probably have to go with LWM - the amount of sheer effort she put in to making this forum invaluable, is quite remarkable (with props to her helpers/minions too, of course)!

Just been having a look at Reddit (as others have said, Discord doesn't come close to being a viable alternative); really not sure I can be bothered. On the up-side, it'll probably be good for me to step away from this kind of thing for a while...

I'm amazed the moderators are still doing their (voluntary, I believed; maybe not so much now?) work. I'm not sure I'd do unpaid work for WG given that the whole thing is being shut down in a couple of days...

I think the only serious competition is the midlife crisis rebrand of Twitter; mind you, that's just the billionaire equivalent of a spotty teenage strop because none of the girls like you - what's WG's excuse? The main reason I think this move is foolish is demographics: supposedly (and the evidence on here seems to bear it out), the player-base on WOWS skews older, and the spending player-base definitely skews older. Each generation has its preferred platforms and methods of communication online, and older folk (based on my recent professional life) tend to like short-form comms less than things like forums and facebook where you don't entirely communicate via emoji. Assuming I'm not completely wide of the mark, this is why I don't buy any of WG's excuses so far - they don't make sense/aren't terribly likely. Far more likely, WG just want to be rid of a source of articulate (on a good day) argument calling them out when they do something foolish/unethical etc. Of course, they could actually fix the problems, so removing the source of complaints, but that's evidently far too much like work... Incidentally, despite this being the Last Days, it appears Wayne's World references to ice-cream flavours get your posts deleted. So, farewell to all - it has been a genuine pleasure 'knowing' you all! Hopefully, I may see some of you in battle (in submarine-free modes, of course) at some point...

This. As others have mentioned elsewhere, this is a very efficient way of stifling reasoned negative feedback. Bonus points for WG's statements - so far - being almost universally improbable/intelligence insulting...

I've selected "don't know", but it'll probably be nowhere (unless someone sets up a good unofficial forum) - none of the other channels for the game do what the forum does.

The 'ignore' button is your friend; I've found my time on the forum rather more fun since I started making use of it. As to the OP, he does rather have a point: hybrids that play as CVs can be a damn nuisance (especially in Ranked, where each individual ship is a larger proportion of the team), as they effectively put the side that has one down by one BB from the off...

Don't worry: I have utmost confidence that WG can ensure that doesn't happen...

I've just unlocked Jager (after an appalling performance in Ranked) and it took me a while to work out whether or not I had the standard cammo installed or not: Neked: Adorned: Actually, it's the other way around, but how many would actually spot it if I didn't point it out? My feeling is that this is verging on the lazy: surely, the 'neked' view is where you do the nice clean, historical paintjob, and the permaflage is where you get frisky? I may just be being unreasonably grumpy, but we do seem to have got rather a lot of tedious permaflages lately...? Of course, for Jager, you can always mount this example of sheer majesty: It'd be nice to have something somewhere between boring + sensible, and 'my eyes, my eyes...!'...

Not sure how anyone would be surprised that the trade-in offer is poor? WG have been doing this for years in WOT, and the economics of the exchanges have always been pants...

Because WG don't like the players having a nice time, and making reasonable rewards...
