Probably just as well; it's a well-known 'fact' that playing too much arty makes your willy shrivel up and fall off...! -

I still have to Google how to do that on the rare occasions I need to play one of the bloody things (for missions, usually)... -
Waterline: Roadmap Update – Spring 2022
Verblonde replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Am I blind - I'm not seeing any mention of submarines? Is it too much to hope that WG have realised they really aren't working...? -
To answer my own question (yay, reading!): Source: https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/general-news/waterline-roadmap-update-spring-2022/

Kind of makes sense: with the office moves, and changes in company structure, I was expecting to start seeing more recycled content. I wonder if the grind will be as insane this time?
-
The other potential motivation is that anyone with a test ship is probably a better than average player, and therefore a serious threat...?
-
I assume you've found the break-down of where your silver is coming from/going to in the results screens: (This is a quick + grubby Coop in Forrest Sherman, with no signals - just the permaflage, plus clan bonuses.) To assess what you're getting from your clan, go to the Naval Base page: So, in the above example, I'm getting 50% off for the permaflage, and another 15% for the clan bonus. BTW the basic service costs can be seen below:

I believe you answered your own question... Edit: to be a bit more useful: Source: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Economy#Operating_Cost

What would be acceptably good Armory Coal + Steel ships at this point?
Verblonde replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
As others have mentioned, T8 is essentially a money/doubloons-only tier as far as premiums go. Much as we might like coal/steel options at these tiers, I wouldn't hold my breath... T7 is problematic; even allowing for the possibility of some of the T9s being dragged into T11 battles now, T7s still tend to face a lot of higher tier opponents. Whilst this is true of a lot of other tiers, the T7+ jump tends to be rather nastier as T7 doesn't generally get the concealment module slot, and so gets disproportionately dumped on when uptiered. I suspect the best you can hope for is WG might look at their worst selling T7 premiums, and maybe add one or two for coal...? -
My feedback and improvement idea's on submarines
Verblonde replied to Karakzorn's topic in General Discussion
Presumably, that ludicrous new mechanic for spotting pings is still being introduced? The one where you have zero idea now where the submarine actually is... I imagine I haven't missed the update announcing the removal of the universally-derided DCP-mitigated pings/homing? Assuming I'm correct in both those assumptions, submarines in the upcoming patch will still be intolerable. How many patches now (for which I've paid for premium time, not incidentally) have been ruined by submarines?!- 77 replies

My feedback and improvement idea's on submarines
Verblonde replied to Karakzorn's topic in General Discussion
There is an abundance, if you're interested in the 'proper' ships in the game (and even CVs too); as @EgyptOverseer points out, the submarines are experimental, so there isn't solid guidance yet, because the damn things aren't fixed yet. Really? WOWS was an excellent game; sure, there are a few more controversial areas (mostly involving CVs), but it basically worked and was fun to play on both sides. Submarines are being added in a way that makes a game that many have invested a lot of time (and money, in some cases) in significantly less fun to play, and roughshod over the objections of many. 'Outrage' is - if anything - a bit of an under-reaction...- 77 replies

Mod to see if the players in the battle have karma points?
Verblonde replied to Siagor's topic in General Discussion
I did a little light research the other day on this very subject (for a friend too, you understand), but decided in the end that it wasn't worth the trouble if you don't run mods already - I'm strictly vanilla otherwise. The main reason I decided against it was that the reports provide me with a useful count of how many submarines I've encountered (on either side); for the good of my sanity/blood pressure, it's best if I stop playing when my reports run out. I would have to play for rather longer if I only handed them out to submarines with positive karma (and increasingly so, if our friends are not the only one reporting submarines as a mater of principle)... -
They're not going anywhere, unfortunately. It's probably going to get worse too: WG are currently giving submarines to everyone who completes a laughably easy xp mission chain; most serious players aren't playing the things (can't imagine why that might be!), so the bulk of submarines are idiots at the moment. Once they get their full release, only those who are actually keen on the class will play them (at least until premiums arrive), which will likely increase the average level of competence slightly - at this point, the current 'balance for idiots' exercise will probably be exposed as having left the things too strong; given WG's usual alacrity when dealing with their latest 'sunk cost' disaster (I assume we all remember the first several CV reework patches?), the game will be unplayable for at least a couple of patches. I hope to be proven wrong; that WG have learned from the hideous mistakes of the past. Equally, I'm not holding my breath.

My feedback and improvement idea's on submarines
Verblonde replied to Karakzorn's topic in General Discussion
There absolutely is; as alluded to previously, the idea is to make use of periods of vulnerability; this general principle applies to a very diverse range of weapons too, not just submarine-launched ones. Remember, this is a team game, so what you're doing needs to mesh with what your team-mates are doing as well. For instance, think about BBs (they're the most popular class): First have a look at this (from my Yamato): This is telling you everything you need to know, to work around this Yamato's DCP. You can tell by looking at a target Yamato much about what's going on with her e.g. fires are obvious (there'll be a maximum of 3 or 4); if one lights then goes out almost immediately, you know a number of things - after 10 seconds, you can flood/set on fire the ship, and it'll stick for a maximum of 70 secs, with that time diminishing as the cooldown runs down. You can also do anything to that Yamato that requires DCP to fix; in other words, look for opportunities where your team-mates have triggered the Yamato's DCP, and then ping. Alternatively, use your pings (and maybe the odd torp) to trigger DCP, and tell your team-mates when DCP is deployed - they in turn can set the hapless target on fire etc. You're not playing as an army of one; your aim is to act in concert with your team-mates. The above example applies to my Yamato with no captain on her; be mindful that upgrades and captain skills can impact the timers (that's true of other things too, like hydro run-times etc.). The various timers vary across classes, and suchlike. For example, this is the same consumable on Lenin (Russian T8 premium): How does this differ from Yamato? Same run time (immunity period from new status effects etc.). Shorter reload: only 40 secs, so you have less time to take advantage of no DCP available. Crucially though, she only has four charges (most DCPs are unlimited in number); your, and your team's, opportunity here is to trigger all four charges - after that, she's wide open to every DoT/ping etc. your team can land on her. Bear in mind when thinking about stuff like this that there is a captain skill that adds one to the number of DCP charges, so you may be trying to burn through five... There are several very good reasons for this; that said, we have a few forum members who have explored the possibilities and might be persuaded to help. Thing is, I suspect most of them will tell you to learn the game more first; play all the classes, and don't rush up the tiers - this is good advice, as you'll do better in whatever is your preferred class if you understand what everything else can/can't do, and what they're trying to do to you. It also gives you the time to build up the knowledge you need at higher tiers e.g. most old lags will know pretty much exactly which ships have hydro on and which don't - it's a lot easier to play against a ship with hydro if you already know it's got it (and things like range help a lot too). You also need to learn about the edge cases - the exceptions that can ruin your day if you blunder into them (PA DDs can mount radar from T8, for example, although most don't - stuff like that).- 77 replies

My feedback and improvement idea's on submarines
Verblonde replied to Karakzorn's topic in General Discussion
I could be wrong, but doesn't detection work differently depending on which depth the submarine is at (very deep being harder to detect, or something along those lines)...? It's technically Damage Control Party (DCP) that mitigates the ping function; Repair Party is kind-of like a healing potion. The interaction between DCP and pings is a significant part of why submarines are so despised in some quarters: prior to submarines, DCP needed to cope with fires, floods, and knocked-out bits of the ship (turrets, engines/rudders, and so on), and had its work cut out doing so (managing DCP is a key part of the game for most classes); it now is the only way to mitigate homing torps *as well*, ludicrously over-taxing the consumable. If you want to farm being reported in submarines, keep an eye on what's happening to your target; if he puts a fire out, say, your pings will stick for much longer before they can be removed. Alternatively, as you allude to, pinging someone and then firing a torp at them may make them panic and hit DCP; once they've done that and the cooldown has passed, you can stick another ping on them (and/or your team-mates can set them on fire, cause floods and so on). Incidentally, you may find this site useful in some respects: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/World_of_Warships It should be noted that because submarines are still in the 'animal testing' phase, and WG are still at least pretending to care about making them fun to play against, they don't have much in the way of information about them in the Wiki. It'll be of most use for reading up on what your targets can do.- 77 replies

My feedback and improvement idea's on submarines
Verblonde replied to Karakzorn's topic in General Discussion
I suspect it may be time to take out the sheet music and play the Real Waltz: At time of writing, you have played 136 Random battles. Of those 136 battles, 43 were in CVs, and 59 were in submarines. You have a mighty 34 Random battles in things that could be described as the main, core, classes in the game. People are not heavy gate-keeping (and they are being surprisingly tactful about it, to be honest), they are simply - obliquely - suggesting that before you try and get the game changed, it's generally a good idea to learn how to play it, at least to a basic degree, first. For clarity: I'm not stat-shaming here (we were pretty much all hopeless this early in our WOWS careers), but pointing out that you'll do a lot better, and have far better informed views when you've got the hang of the general game, mechanics etc.- 77 replies

I cant enjoy warships anymore, please help
Verblonde replied to BruderRaziel's topic in General Discussion
Whilst I can't speak for anyone else, pretty much this. As I get more ancient, I try and be mindful of the tendency to be more conservative, and check that I'm not doing that in a knee-jerk sort of way. I don't believe I am with submarines; it's not that they're new as such (I would welcome well done submarines, provided I could have a pink one*), but rather that they aren't any fun to play against (or with, although I haven't been 4rsed to check that again for a patch or two now). At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the key problem - IMO - is the DCP mitigated pings/homing torps; give the things suitable dumb torps and remove pinging (for example), and you might have the basis of something decent. *https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Petticoat -
For anyone that's interested, Daily Bounce has a review of Maya (apparently due out on Friday): https://thedailybounce.net/world-of-warships/world-of-warships-final-review-japanese-tier-vii-premium-cruiser-maya/ Selected quote: "Weeeeeell… Unless you are a massive fan of the Atago-class cruisers or the IJN Navy as a whole, I really cannot recommend Maya. While she is durable compared to other tier VII cruisers, her game impact is laughably low due to the poor damage output. It really is an Atago brought to a lower tier and with both knee caps busted with a rocket-propelled sledgehammer." I'll probably pick her up anyway*, besides 'muh history!', she'll probably be quite fun in Narai (where shorter-ranged torps, and poor concealment don't really matter)... *Assuming WG manage to make it to the end of the week without doing anything *excessively* egregious.

I'm so far away from being any kind of unicum that I can't even see it on a clear day, but submarines are spoiling the game for me too. So far, my approach is as follows: I avoid PvP modes with submarines in as much as possible. When I can't, I report everyone playing a submarine (regardless of side) until I run out of reports, then stop playing submarine modes. The idea here being to manage the frustration such that there is a limit imposed on how many games can be spoiled. Play other games, or do other things (I recently read Project Hail Mary, for example, which was pretty good; longboarding is also a good outdoor alternative). -
Maya smells, and her Mum dresses her funny...?

I've been giving mine a bit of a thrashing in Coop, and she's actually really good for that - mainly due to the monstrous torps, and the heal allowing you to be pretty aggressive... -
Thanks, both! Something to be filed under 'Satan Box' fodder then...
