Ranked: What have been your experiences in the different leagues?
Verblonde replied to The_Angry_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Bronze. These days, that's the only one I play in; I found silver too much aggravation (and I imagine I'm simply not good enough for Gold). As @Angry_Penguin18 alludes to, Ranked also has the merit of avoiding submarines; Bronze is the most chilled league (in general), *and* no underwater w4nkers - what's not to like?! -
FWIW I don't like Epicentre, or Arms Race in Randoms, although if we must have one of them, it should probably be Epicentre (IMO) as that one doesn't distort your stats - it's harder to accurately assess which areas you have to work on if Arms Race battles are messing up your performance figures in particular ships. On the other hand, I do enjoy playing Arms Race (much more than Epicentre), so a separate game mode with the 'weird' variations of the game in it would be a splendid idea.

I was wondering about giving the radar option a lash (also in Bronze); a little wary as a) I'm not very good, and b) no heal to make up for lack of smoke... Has anyone tried her smokeless?

Many thanks! (Works on NA too, for anyone with an account in The Colonies)

Dear Wargaming. Please nerf smokescreen.

You apparently haven't read and understood what I posted earlier. Suggest you go back and try again. This is a classic L2P issue. -
[POLL] Reconnection of the Playerbase with Wargaming.
Verblonde replied to OldSchoolFrankie's topic in General Discussion
Possible? Yes, most certainly. Likely? That's a whole other kettle of piranhas... To be fair, WG have been rather less awful recently; there's a way to go before they're acting like a proper customer-focused business, but at least they're (mostly) heading in vaguely the right direction. Shame about them trying to drive the game into a metaphorical ditch with submarines in the meantime... -
Who, me?! <look of wide-eyed innocence>

I'm afraid to say, this is probably a L2P issue. There are a number of things you can do when someone is sitting in smoke and firing at you (varies with ship type/class): Get closer if it's a fatty - anything with big guns can be seen a lot further away than you might think when it fires in smoke. Apply radar/hydro; I'm still amazed how many silly buggers don't know about this (I took out two daft sods in my Orkan in one game at lunchtime - when I opened fire, they both popped smoke and stopped moving!!). Blind fire: look at the smoke in zoomed-in view, and fire at the source of the tracers; with practice you will get hits. Torps: depending on the specifics, you can often torp people sitting in smoke (especially if they're firing - see tracers point above). Be aware though that less hopeless players may leave smoke lying around (whilst not being in it) to bait torp fire etc. Proximity spotting: if you're already close, get closer - within 2 km (I think) everything detects everything else. Be prepared for manly close-quarters battle though - they'll spot you too. Spamming fire from inside smoke used to be much more of a problem; these days, there are so many counters running around that it's least of most people's worries, I suspect. It might be worth having a look at the wiki too: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Detection- 136 replies

Coincidentally, I had a similar experience earlier (although we still lost): I was engaging a pair of of Friesland/Groningens in my Jutland (?); whilst I was clearly all manner of screwed, my first or second salvo Detonated one of the two, before the second blew me out of the water. I thought it a bit odd at the time - haven't Detonated any opposing DDs for ages...
-
Not sure about that, but it feels like merely glancing at the OP lopped about that many points off my IQ...!

Verily, you lot are indeed doing the Lord's work!

This. For a glorious time, there were a few ships at least that could set 'stealth AA' ambushes for unwary CVs i.e. their AA range was longer than their air spotting distance. I miss those days; having largely ineffectual AA regardless gets rather tedious.

You didn't, because it's impossible. You would know this, if you were familiar with the source materials...
-
Not at all - 42 is integral to *every* context.
-
Hey, I'm feeling comparatively charitable this morning; this fact may not be unrelated to going out for lunch presently...
-
42 is an Essential Cultural Reference in the English-speaking world (especially the British English part); not knowing about it isn't on a par with not being aware of Shakespeare, but isn't a million miles away...
-
How is it possible that any even semi-sentient being* doesn't know the significance of 42? *and to everyone else out there, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys!

Why reinvent the wheel*? https://www.malwarebytes.com/spam *An example of idiomatic English, should your database be missing the expression.

Great (and in my case, probably rather less so) minds think alike: I was just idly wondering whether one of the original non-VLS Aegis ships' computers achieved sentience, and when the ships got scrapped no-one wanted to 'kill' said computer. Because they couldn't think of anything better to do, they plugged it into WOWS. Sadly, it appears to have developed some very peculiar programming quirks - why the apparent obsession with pork, for example...? Apparently, its linguistic database may be a bit sparse too.
-
You're absolutely right, of course. I tend to file those under 'cosmetics' (some are quite fun though)...

It did - you just either didn't watch it fully, or comprehend.

If you define 'failed' as providing a short YouTube video explaining the origin and common usage of the term, in the case of 'spam'.

BTW if you haven't found it yet, this section of the forum may be of interest: https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/forum/308-aircraft-carriers/ It's worth noting though that most people seem to only really visit the General Discussion section with any frequency, so if you want a quick answer to something, that's usually the section to head for...

IMO it's a 'depends what you want' thing: If you want something that is good at being a 'classic' DD, then she's not remotely worth it (no torps, visible from low earth orbit etc.). If you want something a bit different, that provides a challenge, then she might be worth a look. I play mine now and again in Coop (which is fun), but I haven't worked out how to make her work reliably against real people...
