L'Aigle getting incapacitated all the time.
Verblonde replied to Japualtah's topic in General Discussion
Do I remember correctly that Aigle doesn't get the usual French damage saturation magic thing (although that shouldn't matter to modules)? -
Popeye and Bluto mission fun voices

One wonders whether WG's art department will come up with a Dream of the Fisherman's Wife themed skin at some point... -
I'm afraid this argument is long lost (unless the damage submarines are doing to the game hits WG's bottom line); WG have decided the players are all gagging for it (it = submarines), all evidence to the contrary. You, I'm afraid, have a short list of choices: Suck it up. Only play modes that don't include submarines (and, possibly, Coop). Quit the game entirely. Personally, I went with the second one.

I'm a little conflicted here: I don't object to the principle of premium versions of tech tree ships (although there is always the risk of subsequent changes, assuming that they track their 'parent' design, but then the same is true of current conventional premium ships) as such, but I do think the gambling component is shady in the extreme. 20K doubloons for Roon - for instance - is in the right ballpark (list price for a T9 premium is usually 19.3K), but the plus/minus bit you get for the gambling is pi$$-poor. That, of course, is not touching on the whole question of what's a reasonable price for WOWS premium content. It's not a new observation, but I bought a complete game (with a bunch of DLC) the other evening for less than the price of a couple of top-end premium ships...

I'm similar, and won't be falling for this approach again. It's starting to feel rather like WG have decided that they no longer want to offer good value for the customers' spend, and are increasingly resorting to tricking people into spending. While that might work in the short-term, I can see that not being a terribly sensible approach in the longer term, as even the most dopey whale is going to twig eventually...

Because to do otherwise would be insufficiently manly! Exhibit A: Alas, it seems you can't mount the secondaries upgrade in slot 3 for DDs... (Just to be clear: I'm joking, and have the free dismount from BP enabled at the moment...)
-
Don't worry, it's not just you - I had a brief 'where the bloody hell are my tokens?' moment as well initially...

I actually don't know; I think it would depend on the detail. I'm a lot more concerned with avoiding submarines than avoiding CVs (as I've said elsewhere, CVs have been built into the game from the start, although they do still need work); I'd certainly pay for a tick box that allowed me to avoid submarines only. As others have said though, it'll never happen; besides being an admission of failure with submarines, there would be a financial aspect - I think there's a good chance that it would kill queue times for submarine players, and there may well be enough of the furious-emulators-of-Onan to ding WG's bottom line by now. Just to be clear, I would happily play my various submarines in Coop only in perpetuity if that was the consequence of giving the proper classes a submarine-free option.

Players leaving a battle because a certain ship is on the enemy team
Verblonde replied to TSD_87's topic in General Discussion
Leaving aside the fact you clearly haven't looked at more than - say - a dozen DDs (and that counts all the kagero sisters as unique ships), there is an enormous difference: DDs can't dive, and become effectively invulnerable. DDs can't force an overwhelming of damage control. The game is full of things designed to counter sneaky DDs e.g. hydro, radar, CVs. There are far fewer effective counters to submarines. -

I would call that a result, to be honest, if it could be universally coordinated/agreed. Sadly, if only one person on either team wants to play against submarines, then everyone else leaving is still a Richard move. I've deliberately deleted the CVs bit of the original sentence though: while I know CVs are disliked by many (they're the artillery of WOWS), they have been in the game from the start so I think that we have a less powerful case for objecting to them as strongly. This doesn't diminish the need for some changes re: CVs of course. -
Players leaving a battle because a certain ship is on the enemy team

From my perspective, although I understand the sentiment (I'm still angry with WG for ruining Randoms - and anything else PvP they put submarines in - for me), if you click 'Battle' you are de facto agreeing to do your best with whatever is in front of you; bailing because you get a submarine and don't like them is a Richard move. Same goes for any other class, of course, but it's especially submarines that seem to trigger this sort of thing (because they're new, and bugger up the game). I can't imagine we'll see less of this type of behaviour though: the way WG have rammed submarines down everyone's throat is bound to annoy the bulk of the existing players (I'm assuming newcomers don't know any different), and - among those who don't simply leave - I don't see the anger abating any time soon (unless submarine-free modes are introduced, which they won't be). -
Early days, and I've only played one or two battles with most, and they've been against bots (trying to get a basic feel for the things): The lower tier ones seem to be fairly unremarkable DDs; I suppose that's not too surprising given that most lines don't usually lean into their particular peculiarities until maybe T8 or so. Unsurprisingly, the T7 feels like a variation on Blysk, so far. Don't have the T8 (it's at the end of the BP). I've been giving the T9 more of a lash (so I can unlock the T10 when it releases properly - 20K doubloons is simply ridiculous); she seems okayish, and hurrah for having three turrets pointing forwards (!), but I feel what you're giving up to get the smoke/radar is too much. Only being able to fire one torp launcher to each side is irritating (although the torps are solid, if they connect). I use AP less than I should on most DDs, so I don't miss them here as much as someone more competent might. The radar run time is short, although it's less awful with a coal mod. So far, the vibe I'm getting is something along the lines of <Scottish accent> 'no bad, but no great' </accent>. They're okay, and probably won't break the game, so yay? That said, for all of them that I've played so far, it rather feels that there are several better picks (quite often from the same nation!). So, they're - from my average player perspective - not awful, but not optimal; the smoke/radar thing is interesting but probably not game-breaking (due to short run-time). There are worse things.
-
This looks a bit like: Players: Cheshire is the worst premium in the game; no way would WG be dumb enough to release anything that bad again! WG: hold my wodka... Are we early enough in the year that Nottingham will almost certainly become merely 'trash to get through with Satan Boxes before the desirable drops start' for the 2023 Christmas season, or is she going to have to wait until 2024 to crush people's hopes of getting a decent ship?
-
Looks like it's pretty imminent (and it's a gamble event, which probably isn't a surprise to anyone):

Ah! Thank you!

Is it on sale yet? I hadn't seen anything...

I salute your tact in not pointing out that I'm probably not sufficiently competent to be a proper seal-clubber...!

<raises hand> I'm pretty sure I'm not 'big league' anything! Alas, I can only give a single +1 for this...

Have you noticed that, apparently, the Kitakami is coming (back)...
Verblonde replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
This. Presumably, the assumption is that - against real people - she'll get prioritised and sunk pretty early on, so making her total volume of torps fired over the entire battle similar to a more normal design? -
The lady doth protest too much, methinks...?

Planes can't spot ships for others
Verblonde replied to Jack_Sparrow123's topic in General Discussion
This. The main reason I don't get excessively annoyed by CVs in general is that the decent players are pretty thin on the ground, so making their impact - tolerably often - much less than they should be. Mind you, the only PvP mode I've played lately has been Ranked, and on the smaller maps, even a blithering idiot in a CV will have a reasonable chance of keeping you spotted, albeit probably by accident... -

Verblonde replied to Jack_Sparrow123's topic in General Discussion
Sadly, I don't think WG will do anything much about CV spotting: CVs are one of the two 'special' classes that are felt to need all the crutches they can get, so nothing happens that makes their lives harder. Too many people whinge about 'invisible' ships (presumably, anything with a surface detection distance of less than around 10 km?), because they can't be 4rsed (or are too thick) to learn how the vision mechanics work to a sufficient degree to deal with them; these appear to be precisely WG's target audience these days, so - again - we're out of luck. -
Me neither, although - for some unaccountable reason - I'm currently feeling a powerful urge to install all of 'em! Hopefully, it'll pass...

Recent change that hasn't filtered through to the forum yet? This is what I see as of about ten seconds ago: Versus my current equivalent:
