I *very marginally* prefer the 'new' Gallant cammo, but c'mon WG - at the very least, couldn't we have had a permanent version of the Austin Powers cammo (in the manner of all the American 'freedom' cammos, and Haida's 'Canada' cammo, for example)?

I only had time to give the T5 a single run-out last night; standard(ish) 10-point DD build, and she seems to behave like a fairly typical DD - in terms of damage taken/modules fried anyway. It's only one game though, so hardly a valid data-set.
-
BTW does anyone know of a stats site that will show you granular detail like this for Ops?

From memory, I'm somewhere around 35-40 in Sims, but I suck. @ForlornSailor - how on earth did you manage 40 In Mahan?! That's properly impressive!

New & Improved Op Dynamo in 0.7.9 - Now open to all "Allied" T6-7 DD's - What will be your Ship and Captain Skills choice?
Verblonde replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
I had four goes (I think) at Dynamo last night, two of them in Sims (with AA Mod added) - she really is monstrous against the planes, but it does help to have a few friends along who don't have US gun arcs, and can therefore hit the Schnellboots beyond short range, if they're a crossing target... Haida works quite well too; although her AA isn't the best, the 'warning' sonar and the guns make fighting the SBs fun (plus, I think I bagged one with the Mighty SecondariesTM too!). -
I find WOWS harder to play than WOT, in general; the pace and skill-set required differs, but it's anything but easy (if you think it *is* easy, you simply don't know enough yet)... As to your specific problem (being exploded in your Leningrad); I would suggest one/more of the following to improve your chances: If you want to play a Russian DD, division up with someone who has (ideally) a Sims (even more ideally, that they've tooled up for AA) - Sims will slaughter the aircraft, while you can use your railguns to zap the TBs. Make sure you are using (at least) a 10-point captain; if you don't have one, and don't mind spending money, suggest getting one from the premium shop (if you don't like the aesthetic, you can switch it off). Make sure your 10-point captain has a sensible DD build (read this, if you aren't fully au fait: http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Commander) i.e. PT (or PM, I use PM, but I'm in a minority), LS (always), SE (usually), and CE (almost always); you could specialise specifically for the Op, but then risk having a sub-optimal build for randoms. Use smoke. A lot. An alternative would be to buy Sims from the premium store, and follow the three previous steps, plus equip it for AA (at least partially - I've stuck AA Guns Mod on mine for the Op); as well as having the best AA available for the Op, Sims is very manoeuvrable, so making dodging incoming attacks easier. That's all short-term stuff though, and won't be a magic instant fix. The 'real' fix is to play a lot more, and work your way up the tiers (only free-xp modules, not whole ships - so, same general advice as WOT); you'll find you'll get a lot better after several hundred more battles (assuming mainly randoms, not coop). Also, read the wiki, and fully understand how all the game mechanics work - you'll have a much better time. FWIW I'm a below average player on WOWS; I've played Dynamo four times so far (I think) - twice with Sims, once each with Haida and Mahan; at least 10-point captain in each; four five-star wins, and only sunk once (Sims). I'm also a WOT player (20K odd battles across servers), so the only difference between us for WOWS is a bit of experience - if I can do it, you certainly can (I'm too old and knackered to be good at computer games).

You almost had a good event WG, almost...
Verblonde replied to ColdWarFish's topic in General Discussion
I'm aware I'm biased (bought Cossack, had Gallant for ages, and already won the T5 & 6 DD missions in crates), but I think there would have been almost no complaints if WG hadn't had the cut-offs (edit: assuming the majority bagged at least the T7 DD, and could then double back). I'm slightly narked about that aspect myself, but only because I can't play WOWS for a week in the middle of the event, so I have zero chance of full completion (but that's my tough luck really). -

Verblonde replied to ColdWarFish's topic in General Discussion
Full disclosure: I just bought Cossack, because a) it's a Tribal, and b) I'm an idiot, so this is a bit academic for me personally. From my POV, the current mission structure would probably be okay if we hadn't had better things before. Objectively, 'get lots of stuff for free, and get even more stuffs if you spend money' is probably acceptable to most reasonable folk as a general mechanic (free things, and a blatant up-sell - fairly normal practice in many commercial environments). The problem with the RN thing is that it has a couple of critical differences, compared to (for example) the DoY thing, specifically, you can't 'double back' and complete missing stages on the RN event, once you've earned the key free reward (I didn't pay for my DoY, and I think I got all the other rewards afterwards, so it was possible), as each main part of the thing is only active for a week. We also don't know the odds of getting at least the T7 DD from free crates - if the probability was essentially 100% of getting the appropriate DD(s) before the relevant missions were closed off, I imagine there would be fewer complaints. Overall, we're seeing an excellent illustration of why it's hard (in PR terms) for a company to make 'offers' worse than previous ones... -
Did you get any British DD-missions from the containers?
Verblonde replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
Bought ten, and opened a few freebies - got the T5 & 6, so far... Update: bought another five, and opened a *lot* of freebies - now have the T7 too. No T8. I can't recall how many missions came from the freebies, but it wasn't more than one... -

To unlock the following directive, you need to complete three missions (according to https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/royal-navy/); I think the objection is that, to maximise rewards (and get the most cheapness on Cossack), you need the specific ships... Edit: ninja'd! -

I don't disagree with you - it's rather a cynical ploy by WG (which I'll fall for, hook, line, sinker, rod, and copy of Angling Times). -

Verblonde replied to ColdWarFish's topic in General Discussion
To be fair, WG did mention in advance that some bits were only doable in RN DDs, although they neglected to mention the tier: https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/royal-navy/ currently dated 12th Sep) "Pay attention, some of the missions can be completed only on British destroyers." (fairly near the top) I was under the impression that each stage of the event shuts down after a week (a bit of a nuisance for me, as I'll miss a week due to being unable to play for several days)...? -

Verblonde replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
I run the odd 'C' hull here and there, but don't go 'full' AA - with the dearth of CVs, it's not usually worth it. I have given my Sims a slight fettle in that direction though, in advance of trying Dynamo... -
Asashio - fun ship but... can we change on or two things...?
Verblonde replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
I'm afraid I'm another vote for not messing with Asashio - she's pretty monstrous already, assuming you know how to use her, and don't mind the playstyle (yes, you do have to use the guns occasionally). Rather than messing with Asashio, WG would be far more usefully employed devising a decent 'normal' T8 IJN DD premium (especially with Harekaze on the way out for new buyers). -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Verblonde replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Ah, you were in *that* one? Much sympathy, and my apologies for my sucking (even worse than usual - I'm still trying to get the hang of cruisers)... -
I'm guessing tomorrow - aren't most new toys usually released on Fridays?

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Verblonde replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
They should do it for a day (April 1st, maybe) - the results would be glorious (speaking as an enthusiastic DD driver)... -
If you already have them, I believe you keep them; it's only new purchases that won't be possible any more...

Presumably, for the unicums on here, maximum style points are scored for hitting rank 1 in the most dreadful ships...? -

Re: Loyang (and other premiums) hydro: WG don't usually mess with premiums without good reason, so isn't it likely that she'll get left alone? It's still a nerf then, but only a relative one, due to opponents getting stronger... -
How much time left for supercontainer for T10 ship?
Verblonde replied to NothingButTheRain's topic in General Discussion
What should happen (and did for me) is that you should get a single SC after your first battle with each of your T10 ships, during the relevant date range. So, in my case, I had two T10s, and got a SC after playing each one once; I unlocked/bought a third T10 a day later (I think), and got another SC after I played it the first time. No SCs for subsequent battles. -
I suppose we might see more attempts to get some of the long-range torp boats (Gearing, Shima, Asashio etc.) to within striking distance of the enemy CVs, and/or BBs pushing forward a bit, so as to hit them with gunfire...? How desirable/necessary that sort of thing will turn out to be will, presumably, depend largely on how damaging the new CVs turn out to be, post-balance (which we haven't really had any serious indication of yet).
-
I may be wrong, but I suspect the problem with CVs isn't entirely inherent to them (and their characteristics); the key problem is the unacceptably long time it takes to get even tolerably good in them, and the amount of grief you get playing one if you aren't unicum status (or even if you are by all accounts). The way CVs are currently implemented (which we've all done to death, flaky UI, controls etc.) means that there isn't much of a realistic hope of new players mastering them; this, in turn, means very few people play them, which leads to the situation where almost nobody bothers to spec for AA, or even learns how to play in a CV-heavy environment. I was hoping we'd get some sort of major overhaul to the existing gameplay/UI/graphics such that ordinary farties could get at least to an average level of competence (and perhaps do something to reduce the potential impact of a CV skill mis-match), without altering the basic feel of CVs and their gameplay. If that can't be done, I can live with the sort of thing that WG seem to be proposing (although, it will suck for most of the serious CV players) - I'd like to take Kaga etc. out again in randoms without being a total liability to my team...

For those who are curious (probably very few!), this is allegedly what the 'original' Nautilus is supposed to have looked like: Source: https://io9.gizmodo.com/which-real-life-victorian-sub-inspired-jules-vernes-na-458345856 Most of us have seen the film version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which is why the Disney aesthetic has become so iconic (plus, it's very cool too)...
