Impossible play with DD after this CV rework
Verblonde replied to Mydgard's topic in General Discussion
With 30 plane kills, it's quite likely that there is though, no? -

Re: Yukikaze (the ship); I'll probably get her - she does look pretty, after all - I suspect her utility will largely depend on whether she's facing a CV or not. Assuming it's basically a Kagero (with 5.4 detection?), with faster shorter-ranged torps, she'll be fine if not perma-spotted. If she *is* perma-spotted by planes though, presumably it'll go about as well as it does with the rest of the torp boats... -

Quite keen on Ghibli too, but not a weeb... I'm old enough to remember the excitement when Channel 4 launched in the UK; I'm not sure how I managed to never see Casablanca though - ended up getting the DVD, as it was an egregious omission from my education up to that point. -

FWIW I'm in my late forties (how, exactly, the did that happen BTW?), and saw Akira about a decade before I saw Casablanca... -

Eh? It's a ship! If one is having unsuitable thoughts about several thousand tonnes of steel, I suspect a bit of anime is the least of one's problems...? Edit: this - -
Well, I would imagine that *some* means of getting the premium carriers will have to come along in the next day or so (I think the third set of missions for FSW was showing as being two days out yesterday), or there will be a great deal of wailing and gnashing of teeth... Personally, I'm quite relaxed, as I have two of them already (and suck in both) but that doesn't help the folk without any of them...

From what I gather, WG consider the rework basically 'done' i.e. all that's left to do is some balancing tweaks. Allegedly. I haven't been playing WOWS for as long as you have (my WOT account is similarly aged though), but my feeling is that - at the moment - the only DDs that are viable (in CV games) are the ones with decent AA, and they require somewhat different tactics, especially early game, to do well with. With north of 13K battles, it may be that you could use a break anyway; I found WOT became a lot more bearable when I switched to only playing occasionally; plus, a bit of time away from the game gives WG a chance to fix some of the more broken stuff (for me, in WOT, it was MM - now somewhat better, it seems)... Perhaps not bail entirely, but rather give some other things a lash, and hope that WG make some more tweaks to enable all DDs to be viable again (or at least, to give CV numbers a chance to die down again)?

Do we keep the space ships from april's fool's event missions?
Verblonde replied to EmilyKing's topic in General Discussion
Not as far as I know (the relevant news stories usually state that the slots you gain with the rentals will be removed again, when the rental ships are themselves removed at the end of the event). -

Not really - live and let live, I reckon. If people want to be weebs, let 'em; I just find it all a bit bewildering... -

Not a weeb, and really do think that whoever designed the 'girl' characters is in dire need of getting out in the fresh air, and meeting some actual real women, but I do rather like the Yukikaze aesthetic - that's rather pretty... -
Which Legendary upgrades would be good to have?
Verblonde replied to BLUB__BLUB's topic in General Discussion
I'm currently trying the Groz one out; I'm seriously considering switching back to the AA module, as @T0byJug says - a Groz with maximised AA is really rather splendid and I'm finding the gimped torps to be a bit of a nuisance... As to the original question, this might be of interest: -
Old lags will already know this, but some of the newcomers may not: the new (temporary) space battles mode is well worth devoting a bit of time to playing - besides the mission rewards, you will (more importantly) potentially net an awful lot of elite captain xp, which can then be used to speed up the advancement of your regular captains. This general principle is also true of any other 'special' mode where you get 19-point 'rental' captains, such as the Halloween events etc. I didn't entirely twig to this the first time I saw one of these events, because I didn't yet fully understand how valuable elite xp/high point captains are.

The action/reaction differential is quite significant for an old git like me. I've been trying a sort of compromise between the two approaches, depending on specific DD, situation and state of torps. For example, I've mainly been playing US DDs lately; so for something like Gearing, I start off with torp view, and stay in it until I have a reasonable likelihood of definitely needing guns (I try and switch before I have to, because of the reaction time that you highlight). Once the battle is properly joined, and assuming I'll be in close proximity to enemy DDs, I usually stay in gun view until things settle down a bit. Once the number of ships is starting to thin out a bit, I'll switch more to torp view again. When torps are reloading, in general, I switch to gun view if there is a good chance of getting surprised by someone at close range i.e. I've lost track of at least one of the nearby enemies. It's hardly imaginative, but it tries to balance the fastest possible reaction to potential threats with not giving the game away to your enemies who have PT...
-
Coincidentally, it occurred to me to try doing this quite recently - thank you for confirming that I hadn't gone mad.
-
A lot of the time, I would say the answer is 'no'; I'm relatively new to the idea that targeted torps don't trigger the PT warning, but I'm already seeing that it looks like I get better torp results when forcing myself to not automatically switch from, and back to, guns either side using torps... Edit: Another good suggestion I've seen (many thanks to whoever made it), that I haven't tried yet is to deliberately target guns, then torps, then guns again - only without actually firing the torps - at someone, and see if you can make them do something silly, trying to evade the torps that you didn't fire.

Unique / Legendary upgrades for costly Ironium
Verblonde replied to ZWC's topic in General Discussion
I'll be interested to see what happens if you get a duplicate upgrade too. I don't have many T10s: Groz - got the upgrade already. Gearing - almost got the upgrade, so not worth spending the ironium. Shima - upgrade useless, so not bothered. Z-52 - as I recall, the upgrade is viewed as not worth it. So, there's nothing that's worth buying for use right away, but if the 'duplicate' reward is worthwhile that might alter the equation. I'm assuming you just get either a duplicate module, or the credits though... -
My mental picture went straight to the Batley Townswomen's Guild Presents the Battle of Pearl Harbour...

I don't have either yet (head is telling me to get Jean Bart, whereas heart says Salem), but the LWM review might be worth a look: https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/171986-premium-ship-review-111-jean-bart/ It does pre-date the rework though. Short version: she rates JB's credit making on a par with Musashi, and Kron... -
BTW assuming I've not mis-typed, and the wiki is accurate, these should be the real numbers (with top everything, plus CE and cammo): (Hadn't noticed before that the T5&6 have the same surface detection value either - old age!)
-
I'm being blonde - apologies. I think I may need to check that I have the upgraded torps mounted on my T6 as well...! <red face>
-
I can't remember the numbers ( @Seiranko is probably right), but you get a narrow stealth window at T6, that you don't have at T5 (that assumes you're running cammo, and a CE captain, as you say); admittedly, you only get a substantial window at T7, but you can still make decent use of the T6 one, with a bit of finesse (no prizes for guessing how often I actually manage this myself...!)... Edit: I'm talking what is technically known as b0llocks - see Seiranko's correction below.

Pay to win: Fly Strike Win! In the heat of battle, Boise, Nueve de Julio
Verblonde replied to Kaydenn's topic in General Discussion
@Kaydenn If you really *must* get the trivial (I think) reward for the Boise/9dJ bit of FSW, you could always get one of the rentals, I suppose, but it does strike me as rather a waste of money... -
I imagine you're out of luck - precedent suggests that any extra perma cammos will need to be acquired separately (either bought outright, or earned in missions)...
-
This sort of thing cheers me up slightly (okay, it's a CV, and not something more useful, but even so) - it's nice for newer players to get the occasional decent freebie. If you haven't had a go with CVs yet, I'd suggest a few trial runs in Coop first...

If you get a chance, it'd be very much appreciated, as was the first iteration!
