Can they citadel you when angled ?

You really must be bored, wherever in the world you are! 'Bug' is inaccurate when used to describe anything that isn't an Hemipteran but several million unfortunate Americans know exactly what you mean when you use the term to describe more or less any arthropod. In precisely the same way, I don't lose any sleep over using 'hexagon' to describe Yamato etc. citadels. (If it makes you feel any better, the wiki gets it right.)

Yay! Unless WG do something biblically dumb, I'll buy one; not really a CV person most of the time, but I like playing them in Ops a lot, and another premium would be most welcome.

Can they citadel you when angled ?

Still inaccurate; in a similar vein, I have to try not to grind my teeth whenever people say dinosaurs went extinct at the KT boundary (which sentence in turn would annoy geologists). In the limited 'culture' of the WOWS forum, the funny irregular polygonal (in plan view, before you get excitable about it being a 3D shape) citadel of a number of IJN ships is referred to as 'hexagonal' and even I'm not pedantic enough to try and single-handedly correct *everyone*...

    Help with first premium ship.

Whilst I wouldn't try and dissuade you - Z-39 is (IMO) excellent, there are a couple of things to have on your radar: If you care about such things, T-61 is probably better tier-for-tier. Z-39 gets the big KM DD guns; this can be a good thing (I usually run them when available on the silver line, fwiw), but is 100% matched with captains from only a couple of the silver line ships (T6 and T8, I think). That said, most of the time, I run my 19 point BFT captain on Z-39 and it works fine - so, not a biggie. Z-39's hydro is longer-ranged than T-61 though (5 km versus 4 km). BTW if you have the coal, a hydro mod is an excellent idea (on Cossack too, come to that); it bumps Z-39's (and T-61's too) run time up to a full two minutes...

Can they citadel you when angled ?

Because it doesn't look like one. Yes, I know, if you're precise, it doesn't look like a hexagon either, but I can't be 4rsed writing a long treatise on the precise shape of Yamato's citadel, when 'hexagon' is already there and - in context - fairly universally understood. For similar reasons, I only sometimes correct people who use the term 'bug' to describe things like beetles, dragonflies, spiders etc.
  6. @Execute0rder66 is out of bed before me, it seems! As the article says, you get a bunch of useful information shown by default with the interface enabled.

    What's up with QE?

Incidentally, @Peroidas, being marginally more sensible, you have a very small data set for QE so it could simply be bad luck, combined with the ship not being 100% upgraded yet (Warspite comes effectively fully upgraded)...

    What's up with QE?

Insufficient sacrificing of inexperienced-young-persons in your local volcano?

    The Kitakami returns!

That might work... Would you go with PA stylee (can hit cruisers), or the full-blown Asashio model?

    Help with first premium ship.

I've had a quick look at your stats; although your battle count is quite low in any one ship, you have a fairly diverse selection (IJN, US, KM, RN, and Ikea); if this is your first premium, I would suggest getting something from one of these nations (but not necessarily from any of them - see below), mainly because of the ability to train captains. I would also suggest picking something that you're confident you'll enjoy playing a lot, as (to get maximum value from your purchase) you'll need to. With that in mind: IJN: the best (IMO) premium is Harekaze, but it's only occasionally available; do get one if you ever can. Asashio can be an excellent earner, but you're almost entirely limited to scragging BBs (and the occasional CV that does something stupid) to make your rewards. Of the rest, the freebie Shinonome is probably the best, but you do have to do the campaign to get it. If it were me, I would perhaps avoid the IJN for a first premium purchase (unless the Harekaze turns up again). US: if you want T8, you basically have to get Kidd; she's very worthwhile, but only having one torp launcher does reduce your damage output - she's very reliant on your team shooting stuff that you spot. On the up-side, you have (for a DD) excellent AA, and you get a heal which can be extremely helpful. Nice dakka too - she's more or less a Feltcher at T8. US (again): if you're not totally wedded to T8, Sims might be worth a look too - she has the advantage of playing almost exactly like the silver line, only with the slow 'swimming mines' (which got a lot more useful when the range was buffed slightly a while back), so captain overlap is essentially 100%. BTW when Black is made available for coal, it's worth getting her too: smoke/radar, the slowest torps in the game (they make limpets look nippy), but she's a premium Feltcher - one of the better DDs tier-for-tier. KM: T-61; probably the best DD in the game tier-for-tier. I know she's T6, but any discerning KM DD driver needs to have one if possible; smoke/hydro and a nice balance between torps and dakka. Z-39 is a very similar beast a tier higher, although she has the larger guns, so BFT will only boost her AA, not the dakka. Put a coal hydro mod on both. RN: Cossack, Cossack, Cossack, oh and Cossack. Did I mention Cossack too? Besides being a Tribal (what, you need more?), she's excellent: great concealment (5.5 km, versus Kagero sisters' 5.4 km), RN smoke and defensive hydro (216 secs run time if you mount the coal mod), superior dakka, and 10 km range on the torps (even though you only have one launcher) is very helpful at times. You also get an engine boost, which the silver equivalents don't. The only real down-side is her AA, which is entirely awful, but that's less important than it might be as you get the RN smoke. Ikea: I wouldn't get a premium one of these as a first purchase; they're a bit 'niche', but if you're liking the silver line then perhaps reconsider when you've got to higher tiers with them. At T8, your only choice is Orkan (which I love), which is more or less a Lightning, only with no smoke, a heal, and only one torp launcher (although the torps are very fast, albeit very anaemic on the damage front). You also have Smaland at T10, but she's prohibitively expensive (2 million free xp) for most players, and Friesland a tier lower, but she's exceptionally niche (no torps) so another poor choice for an early purchase. Blysk at T7 used to be fearsome, but she's been rather powercrept these days, although at least she has a silver line now to take a decent captain from. TL;DR: buy Cossack (unless Harekaze returns) if you must have a T8, but (to echo others) be mindful that she isn't 'easy mode' - you have to make use of the guns to do reliable damage and that has to be done judiciously, to avoid getting focused by the opposition, and your anti-CV technique needs to be good too.
  12. Neither's mine, alas. I have found it though: This is the bottom of the 'controls' tab - the tick box you want is on the right (second from top in the last section).

Warplanes should not look like this

My recollection is that - for me - planes and ships happened around the same time, and AFVs too! It helped that my grandparents lived within a reasonable schlep of places like Hendon, Salisbury Hall, the Shuttleworth Collection, and Duxford too...
  14. Verblonde

Warplanes should not look like this

Not by me - she's one of my favourite planes, at least when one isn't worrying about actual effectiveness. (Although, if one is being fair, I seem to recall it turned out to be quite a worthwhile night fighter.)

    The Kitakami returns!

I wonder if WG are being (or trying to be) cunning here: Lots of people dislike CVs. People will *really* dislike Kitakami. As far as I can tell, the latter's key weak point is air attack. CVs that quickly sink Kitakami become beloved in the community. CV problem solved - hurrah! More vodka, comrades!
  16. Isn't that part of the full alternative interface? I might be wrong though - I set mine up ages ago, and can't remember exactly what I did. Because I'm an airhead.

It'll be for similar reasons as to why people think the Battle of Britain was all about Spitfires...

Can they citadel you when angled ?

I tend to repeat the expression because it's simple and in widespread use, rather than because it's accurate (hence the 'sort of' in my post)... You don't have to in the slightest to start with; however, if you want to understand why something apparently weird is happening, it can be helpful. If this stuff is a bit beyond you, don't worry about it: just take the approach of 'shoot angled stuff with HE, and broadside stuff with AP (and aim under the funnels)' and you'll probably be more effective than the bulk of the player base. You can start layering in the more complex/nuanced stuff later, when you've got some more battles under your belt.

    The Kitakami returns!

Apart from coinciding with a removal of team damage (a la WOT) I can't think of any practical steps WG might take to make taking concerns into account something meaningful? Can anyone else? I suppose they could do some ship-specific stuff, such as only being able to play Kitakami if you aren't pink, but that sounds rather a lot of work (and very easy to quickly circumvent)... I haven't been around long enough to have played with the original version, but from a gameplay perspective, it doesn't sound hugely interesting either - am I missing something? I can see the amusement in a monumental wall of skill, but I suspect that would get a little dull after the first few games...

Warplanes should not look like this

Re: lairy colour schemes on warplanes - it could easily be a lot 'worse' (or 'glorious' depending on your point of view): Okay, not exactly naval, but you get my point...

Poll: Ranked Fun: Tier7 vs Tier8 Sprint

Very true; my thought was just about trying to straighten the learning curve very marginally: T4 ships are the first time you get/see hydro, I think (T4 cruisers and T-22 is the first DD at T5), but no radar. T5 ships see a small number of radars (the T5 premiums we were talking about earlier). T6 ships then get the aforementioned horror of all the sudden T8s. The notion with my suggestion is that if you can increase the incidence of radars seen by T5s, but do it with less scary variants (short range/duration), then when you meet the T8s you're more practiced than presently. The range for these new radars - if we're thinking typical DD (so, what, 7.5 km?) - would be intermediate between hydro and the 9-12 km that you get when you meet T8s. Of course, this would increase the absolute numbers of radars in the game, which might well be viewed as undesirable (not to mention possibly giving seal clubbers a new toy)...

Can they citadel you when angled ?

Everyone else has covered off overmatch etc. Vis-a-vis citadels: it's worth having a sniff around your ships' armour models once in a while, to get a sense of where the citadel actually is and if it's a funny shape. For example, this is the front of Balti's citadel: And this is Musashi (from a higher angle): You'll note that Musashi's citadel is (sort of) hexagonal; this means it's potentially easier to citadel an angled Musashi (Yamato too) than a more typical ship of a similar sort, such as Georgia (from a similar angle):
  23. As others have said: nope. Coop should be at least partly a training mode, and as we all (should) know - your torps, your responsibility; so, better to learn to use your torps properly in an environment where it matters less than in a proper battle.
  24. BTW @HansRoaming it's worth looking at a range of reviews when considering which premiums might be of interest too. My first port of call (besides reading views on here) is usually Little White Mouse - via Shipcomrade: http://shipcomrade.com/ There are several useful people on Twitch/YouTube etc. to listen to. Keep an eye on posting dates though; the state of play in the game has shifted a lot over the last eighteen months (and rapidly too at times), so newer posts are more likely to be current and more relevant. When looking at views on here it's also worth - as much as practical - being mindful of who's giving the opinion; for example, any views from me are from a sub-standard (48% WR) player, who mostly plays DDs in randoms. I also have a very diverse ship history, but no huge battle counts in anything, so my views will be based on a shallower experience pool on any specific ship compared to someone with 1K+ battles in the same things. You can infer similar things about anyone else who doesn't hide their stats; it can be helpful to identify who is closest to you in terms of standards and preferences when weighing up contradictory viewpoints.

That might make sense - I think I saw that there is some 'hotrod' related event, where 'greasers' are one of the factions...
