    Newbie confused with Combat Missions

Apparently, it's a 'priority mission': I got the above by hovering my mouse pointer over the banner. As @Ymustihaveaname says, it's most likely because you aren't playing eligible ships and/or modes. For example: If you look at the completion criteria, you can see what will do the job; in this case, it's any of the modes with their symbol included (the first two are Coop and Randoms, respectively), there are no class symbols, so you aren't limited to - say - just BBs, just cruisers etc. but you do have the Roman numerals for tiers i.e. T5 and above (including superships - the star) in this instance.
  2. I don't dispute this at all; the reason I'm not sure these things are 'world-ending' is that I'm not certain that what they give up to get the spotting is made up for by that spotting. They could be ferocious with a good driver though, especially in a coordinated division. I suspect a typical farty playing one will lose too much damage output whilst flying their planes to be overcome by the positives for their team of the resulting spotting. It absolutely isn't! It just gives me a bit of a sense of what the ship can do - I'm not very good at working this stuff out from looking at stats. Like I said, hybrids' planes are kind of like weird radar - you can reach further with it (the planes, that is), but you can't shoot when using it. I think there is a good chance your hope will be the reality most of the time. A good player will be scary, but then they almost always are, regardless of which ship they're in (at least at my skill level they are).
  3. I'm genuinely curious: how does anyone think this is a good idea? I mean, I'm aware of much of the player-base, but still: your planes do almost nothing in proportion to what you can do with primary weapons. How does even the most challenged individual not work this out? (In a typical Coop battle, I'm lucky to get more than one plane launch off with the new T9 - imagine if that was your only activity during a battle!!)
  4. I've been pratting about a bit in Coop with the T9; to me she feels much like a typical lumbering BB, with occasional planes to be used between main gun salvos i.e. much like the rest of the hybrids. My main PvP class is DDs, and (although I've stepped back from Randoms lately - submarines) I don't really see the hybrids as 'world ending', but as a threat vaguely akin to a BB with radar, albeit radar that can't see through smoke but can go and look further afield than normal radar (at the expense of not being able to use the main guns while doing so). The T9 - at first glance - appears to be a worse BB than its dedicated contemporaries (although I quite like having 6/8 of your firepower at the front), but with better vision control, and the occasional possibility of dropping bombs on some hapless berk. Like the other hybrids, only an idiot would try and play her as a CV. Having the planes be bombers, rather than rockets, perhaps makes life easier if you aren't a practiced CV player? I guess a lot will depend on how popular the things end up being; presumably we'll see the initial 'new ships' spike, and then I'd expect they'll settle down to the 0-2 sort of numbers in a team range in Randoms...

    New Code

    Many thanks!
  6. T8-T10 IJN Dakka line DDs are my silver line go-to pick, especially the T9-T10.
  7. My initial reaction to this was 'yay', but - for me - I see a dangerous temptation: Enter Random battle. See submarines present. Deliberately die quickly in heroic + manly blaze of glory (sorry, non-submarine team-mates). Enter new Random battle and hope for better luck with the MM. Repeat as necessary. Obviously, having a method of making Randoms acceptable in the submarine era would be most welcome (if ethically dubious, to put it mildly), but if everyone followed a similar approach (related to whatever MM they didn't fancy) the mode would risk becoming even more flaky...
  8. USS Halford sounds promising (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Halford), assuming there are still satisfactory game modes left to play her in by the time she's released. I'm always happy to see more Feltchers in the game...

Thanks, but no, nope and all the others.

This. It's not like I don't have plenty of things to do that are a lot more fun than playing against submarines. It'll be a shame to - eventually - lose Ranked as an option though, assuming submarines in Brawls will be used as the excuse to crowbar the damn things into Ranked.

    Submarine spotted!

Doesn't the voiceover do something similar when more or less anything is spotted? Obviously, if it's Jingles as voiceover the 'what' is probably inaccurate of course, but don't other captains do it too? (Can't remember what my voiceover settings are; whatever gives you the voice for each specific captain, on that captain only.)
  11. Play everything, not just cruisers (maybe except submarines, beyond a 'know your enemy' sort of thing in Coop). Once you start to face real people, cruisers are - with the current meta - very much hard mode (although they're often great against bots); you'll have more success if you are familiar with all ships types - that'll give you a better sense of what they can/can't do, and what they're trying to do to you (and what you should be trying to do to them). Also, because it would be rude not to (original thread is from 2021):

    OP Ships according to ChatGTP

    Okay, who gave ChatGTP absinthe?!

    Submarine Emblems

<look of wide-eyed innocence> Who, me?! I merely thought of a suitably nautical emblem, and then put a bold letter next to it that might signify, perhaps, water, or maybe 'win' (which the submarine inhabits, and - one hopes - strives for, respectively)...

    Submarine Emblems

I have a design suggestion: something like an enormous stylised anchor on the right side of the emblem, with something suitable on the left to counterbalance the visual weight - perhaps an ornate letter 'W'? Put a suitably coloured background on, and I think that'd do the job for typical submarine enthusiasts...
  15. Apologies if this is old news: am I the only one for whom the Dockyard stage 5 spotting mission appears to be broke? This is after mucking about in Ranked (Bronze, so T6) for a couple of hours, and earning spotting ribbons all over the place...

    Dockyard spotting ribbons mission broke...

Ah! I was fooled by the lack of eligible ship symbols - many thanks! This explains it; I haven't really been looking at WOWS much since the update, so I missed this bug. Many thanks, both!

    Dockyard spotting ribbons mission broke...

How very dare you, sir! <casts gauntlet at @Klopirat's feet> I demand satisfaction! (Being sensible: I didn't think you could play submarines in Ranked - mainly why I was playing it! DDs only today.)
  18. I come in at 11, unless I've missed one; I thought I might have more than that, but I seem to have a lot more 19-20 pointers that I never got around to maxing out. I have all the high point commanders I need for Clans/Ranked, so since submarines turned me away from Randoms, I've stopped worrying about getting more commanders to 21 points... The only unique commander I don't have is the new one; I'm not feeling he's particularly essential since I have the Rong brothers, but I'll probably try and pick him up anyway...
  19. I salute your forbearance; I'm pretty sure I hit 'ignore' for this particular individual months ago, at least...!

    Premium ship return

Aye, but that's the existing stuff. The model I'm more concerned about is the notion that they produce something blatantly OP, sell the bejayzus out of the thing, and then - once they've made enough money - nerf the thing into the ground, and then rinse + repeat... So far, WG have resisted the urge to go in this direction (maybe they'll change their mind when the 'classic' lootbox loot lose their alure)...
  21. Verblonde

    Premium ship return

Georgia is a full premium (all the T9s are; so far, only T10s have been 'special'), although the practical difference is moot. I don't recall if Georgia was available directly for money; before the change to ' it - we can nerf anything', that was generally what made old premiums nerfable, or otherwise (at least in practical terms). (Incidentally, I should probably mention that nerfable premiums are a good thing, for the health of the game, provided WG continue to resist the urge to release deliberately OP premiums then nerf them later after all the money has rolled in.)
  22. Verblonde

    Premium ship return

It's a bit more subtle than that: Older for-money premiums can't be nerfed, but that's a WG policy rather than a legal thing (the EULA says they can do whatever they like). Flandre, from memory, is the cut-off; that premium ship and all later ones (that aren't clones of non-nerfable premiums) are subject to nerfs - as stated in the small print. When 'global changes' come into play (like removing stealth fire way back, smoke firing penalty changes, trashing AA with the CV reework, and - most recently - gimping/omitting ASW) all bets are off, and everything can be nerfed. Special Ships (the T10 'premiums' essentially) have always been nerfable. Silver ships are obviously all fair game.
  23. Verblonde

is premium ships a golden pinata?

As you've probably gathered, PUK isn't that widely used a measure (if folk on here haven't heard of it). If you want some solid data on how rewards are calculated, perhaps the place to start is the wiki: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Economy
  24. Probably because, if you insist on playing submarines, the pool of sympathetic players will be somewhat minimalist? Also, that limited pool might perhaps prefer you to stop SHOUTING?
