Best tier 5 premium battleship for beginner
Verblonde replied to Trpinjska_cesta_'s topic in Newcomers' Section
Depends what you're trying to achieve; you can't beat PvP for xp and silver gains, for example... (I personally think that PvP tends to be a lot more fun and interesting too, but that's distinct from efficient mission grinding.) -
The cost of the new captain skills in context
Verblonde replied to thiextar's topic in General Discussion
I hope my general views on the captain rework are self-evident from my various posts on the subject, but there are one or two positives, and the way the new captains will interact with premiums/event ships is one of them. One of the reasons I've picked up several 'clone' premiums over the years (BF ships, ARP etc.), is the multiple 'first win' bonus thing for maximising xp gain (Captain XP in particular); with the new captains having a skill-set for each class, we can now do the same thing across different classes too. This also isn't exclusively the preserve of the whales either - there can't be too many players (apart from absolute newbies) who don't have at least a handful of premium/event ships via the various free means (missions, coal, Free XP etc.), and can now get the most out of them with fewer captains than before. I'm painfully aware that the bulk of the captain rework is best described by means of my, erm, more Anglo-Saxon-derived vocabulary, but this is one positive aspect... -

It's the most time-efficient mode for doing a lot of missions (usually the 'x hits', 'y caps' and so on types); it's also a good place to play ships that you aren't good enough in to avoid being a liability to your team in PvP (which is why most of my games that aren't in DDs are in Coop). -
Personally, I think 'every single day' is a little strong, but I do understand the poster's sentiment: On a trivial level, the default setting for cammo/signals that cost gold is to replenish automatically (and reactivates as such every time you move from having no signals/cammo mounted to mounting them again). If a player isn't *very* awake they will periodically involuntarily lose doubloons like this. The marketing materials this year for the Xmas boxes were flat-out misleading (and the refunds offered de facto acknowledged that), if you didn't already know how they work from the early years. The marketing materials for the Black Friday ships/doubloons missions are also misleading (in the context of how an average customer thinks/behaves); I use the word 'are' (present tense) deliberately as this has been highlighted every year that these things have been run, and - basically - none of the easy changes to improve matters have been made, so implying that a) it's deliberate, and b) it's not going to change. That's three quick and easy examples off the top of my head. A cursory look at my account will demonstrate that I like the game (a lot) and am happy to spend stupid money on it, so I'm not some inveterate f2p whiner; however, I do expect a company to behave decently by the standards of the target market, and in this latter respect, WG have failed to do so on more than one occasion. I'm not sure I would use the word 'cheat', but I can understand why some people would, and I doubt if you truly can't understand that too...

Speaking personally, it's because she is so - painfully - slow (and dumps even more speed in a turn). Still, that isn't unique to VU, and having that many guns does partially make up for the lack of velocity. Mine basically lives in Coop (where her down-sides don't really matter), as I have several far more entertaining choices to take out against real people. -

Well, I have to admire your persistence in adhering to the party line! Sadly, you are - of course - being disingenuous: whilst you can have more active skills at once ('fair effort' is nonsense, incidentally: 1.2 million xp to get the extra two points, versus around 1.7 for the preceding 19?!), that doesn't mean those active skills will be any good. Allow me to illustrate, with a fairly unremarckable captain build (DD), which will probably still be a viable pick after the rework: This costs 19 points. Under the new system, PT moves to costing two points, and AR moves to three; so, initially, my 19 pointer is significantly less good than presently (everyone else is in the same boat too, I accept). Once I apply the entirely unacceptable 1.2 million captain xp to get this captain to 21 points, I can have exactly the same build again, or rather a slightly nerfed version (because BFT gets nerfed). So, the sequence of events will be as follows: 19 point captain gets noticeably weaker (along with everyone else). I have to waste 1.2 million captain xp. I now have a slightly weaker captain than I had before; I have gained nothing, and lost 1.2 million captain xp. Yes, I could have spent all the 21 points on most/all of rows 1 and 2, so giving me more skills than I have now, but that doesn't mean such a course would be remotely sensible. Hence, you are being disingenuous. If you (WG) had made the costs of the extra points conform to the existing graph (as opposed to the massive spike it looks like you're going with), your case would have been reasonable; the game needs to evolve and I have no problem with changing the captain skills per se (yes, there are plenty of Richard moves in there, most notably significantly ruining many cruisers, especially the 'supers', but they can be fixed/improved on), but robbing your existing players, and making the old lags almost impossible to catch for newbies is exceptionally poor.- 34 replies

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Verblonde replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
This was pretty close to my reaction (once I worked out what it was that was actually lurking underneath all that...erm...*that*!)... (for 'interesting', perhaps substitute "JAYZUS!! What the bloody hell is *that*?! Which rotten bugger laced my horlicks with LSD?!") -
Yet another Dev Blog (featuring a *distinctly* alarming Pan Am Gallant clone - no more drugs for that designer...!): https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/110

As a matter of interest, has *anyone* reacted to these things in an even vaguely positive way yet? Assuming they are as unsatisfactory as everyone thinks, that would be two out three new lines being pants (the other one being the recent US BBs, and assuming the upcoming RM BBs are vaguely fun); I can't imagine WG will be keen to release another badly received line (especially given that they must realise that the captain rework is going to pi$$ a lot of people off at about the same time). I suppose the best we can hope for is that testing shows up the new KM DDs' shortcomings, and they get fixed enough to make them at least vaguely worth playing...
-
We should probably recall that WG were talking about these things having good armour; if it's good enough to arm AP shells, all those hp are going to evapourate pretty quickly as soon as anything with big guns starts taking a serious interest...

I believe the approximate consensus is that she's (to quote Trainspotting) 'no bad, but no great' i.e. there are worse ships, but Alaska/Agir are noticeably better, at least at the moment. If you like the smell of Azuma, Yoshino seems to be felt to be better, and you can get her for coal. I can't give you a 'proper player' view on Azuma though, as mine spends its time in Coop, running a full manly build (for giggles). After the captain rework messes all that up, I suppose I'll have to change that all out for a more sensible build - chiz!
-
I'm not good enough (at all) in cruisers to offer very informed advice, besides - as a DD main - observing that a well-played Alaska is one of the most major threats that I face (bonus points for coal radar mod). Unless you want one that's about to be removed (Alaska, I think, from the T9 super cruisers), there is a lot to be said for waiting a bit: as I understand it (from the competent players), the upcoming captain rework is going to have a metaphorically similar effect on the super cruisers as placing your happy sacks on a block of concrete and then repeatedly (and vigorously) applying a substantial sledge-hammer to same. If you can, suggest waiting to see to what extent the warnings are accurate...

The relevant Dev Blog is up, and I'm feeling even less enthused than I was: "These newcomers are not particularly effective in fighting for caps due to their high detectability range and lack of Smoke Generator." "Great armor for the class." (Presumably meaning that AP shells will arm, rather than over-pen?) They basically sound like they're built to tool around at medium range and generally lack influence on the game... What do the competent players think? What am I missing? To me, they're sounding rather like a slow version of the French line without the redeeming features...
-
Agincourt at last! Hurrah! If the Dev Blog isn't teasing, " numerous secondary battery guns, which have long range for the tier." sounds distinctly promising - a properly manly T5 would be most welcome! Hyuga sounds a bit more 'meh'; still, another premium for Narai might come in handy...

If the captain rework wasn't about to happen, I would tend to think this is decent value (7 UKP, or whatever it is, for Molotov is pretty decent, even if you mainly end up tooling around in her in Ops); how long do you have before the voucher/offer expires? My feeling, at the moment anyway, is to avoid spending until we see how much damage the rework does; it seems likely that the desirability of some ships (especially cruisers) will change drastically in some cases, although I don't know if Molotov is one of the more badly impacted...
-
I assume the entirely ridiculous/unreasonable 1.2 million Captain XP to get from 19 points to 21 points is still there? This rework had the potential to be quite worthwhile (with some tweaks here and there, and possibly less shafting of the various 'supercruisers'), right up to the point where this entirely unjustified mammoth turd was deposited on us. 1.2 million?! Magnificently effective way to roger the new players! Edit: note for any new players reading this: it currently takes around 1.7 million to get to 19 points; you now have to find almost the same again to catch the old lags. Good luck with that!

BTW if you want a quick way to inventory your snowflakes, this site is worthwhile: https://whaling.in.fkn.space/ If you click the 'Include ships I used to have in port' checkbox, it'll include things you've sold (if any), and might want to re-buy for the coal. If you tend to sell silver ships once you've advanced past them, this can be a good source of coal - assuming you have the silver to re-buy them. You don't need to fully equip them and/or put a decent captain in them, as you'll still probably get the necessary win in Coop anyway. It's worth holding onto these ships though, for future snowflake type events (else you waste a lot of silver every time you sell them); I have a modest 'mothball' fleet of just such ships, for exactly this reason...
-
She's worth having, if there's nothing else that you want more, even if (like me) you aren't a BB main - she's one of the more efficient ships for doing secondary hits missions for a start, mainly due to the speed boost getting you into position - in Coop - before the DDs sink everything. I do believe that the consensus is that she has a moderately high skill floor if you want to do well in Randoms (I can't really comment on this as my only real PvP experience in mine was the 'Pommern' Sprint, where she basically got me to R1). To get the coal, get as many daily crates as you can (selecting 'more resources' of course), plus the daily missions that also award coal. Make sure you've got all your snowflakes, plus I think there is some coal to be had in the dockyard event. You can always convert steel (from dailies and Ranked) too, but this isn't ideal - steel is too valuable, unless you have no other choice.
-
No, but if you hum it, we'll join in... (Sensible answer: leave your existing clan - I assume via the clan page in game, but I may be wrong - and then wait for 48 hours cooldown, before joining the new one via the usual methods that got you into the original clan.)
-
Well, I ought to be stoked that a new DD line is incoming, but I'm containing any excitement for the moment - these new ships are German for one thing, and we know how keen WG usually are on allowing anything good from that nation into the game. I agree with those who say that these things will need some sort of gimmick to make them worthwhile - a basic KM DD without smoke (or heal, obviously) would be a whole bunch of no fun to play... Zombie heal, normal speed, and decent AA might work, I suppose?

Battleships everywhere! Where are others?

All these BB players are being very public spirited; they're getting cooties to give those of us who play proper ships shorter wait times, and something to fire our torps at. BB players, I salute you!- 36 replies

whats going on in ranked today
Verblonde replied to The_Shungite_Wizard's topic in General Discussion
That sounds promising; perhaps there may be fewer in Silver now? I might have to have a look later today, once I've done my chores...
