Petition to WG, Remove The Detonation mechanic
Verblonde replied to _Spanish_Inquisition_'s topic in General Discussion
Speaking only for myself, it's purely for the nod to history (not just Hood); I imagine if it were less rare, I might have a less sanguine opinion. As others have pointed out on previous occasions, I suspect the reason *WG* want it in the game is that it provides a chance for any potato to get a spectacular 'feel good' (for the potato) result against any player, no matter how good they are. I still remember the first time I got one (years ago, in the old days where one shell on a 100% target would do it): I clipped an Atlanta and the poor bugger exploded. This was followed with the two of us in chat exchanging 'what the hell just happened?!' type messages (I think we must have both been new players)! -
Might I politely suggest a subtle refinement? The impression I get is that a lot of the problems stem from the home office and their apparent failure to understand markets other than their own... I rather like the look of her too, but don't intend buying her; I may yet weaken, although it'll probably depend on how the Yukon thing finally shakes out. With the incoming (probable) disaster of subs, my instinct is to dial the spending right back anyway, but I never was good at self-control; WG being utter Richards to LWM/Chobi is a different matter however, and really discourages me from opening my wallet...

Latest update from NA:https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/240702-premium-ship-review-yukon/?do=findComment&comment=5501316 "A little update for you all. Chobi and I sat down and spoke with Wargaming. They wanted to go ahead with their original offer which was to put in the original Sackville camo. That's not good enough for me. It might have been before this all blew up, but not now. They're considering our counter proposal. Chobi, in the meantime just "threw this together in a couple of hours" as a "rough draft" because Chobi is an absolute monster that produces A+ quality work even when he's just banging rocks together. He updated Yukon's Sackville camo, improving upon the initial version. We don't know if this will come into the game in an official capacity, unfortunately. I'm getting the impression that if Wargaming concedes one thing, it will be one thing only. I'm fully prepared to take the L on this if Wargaming doesn't show the needed empathy. We'll find out in a week. In the meantime, please check out Femennenly's video for her insight on the subject."

It's not all downside though: although it's not a huge amount, skipping straight to T7 means you miss the research points for the T5 and T6 in the tree. Entirely irrelevant if you aren't working on a RB reset, of course.
-
When you've researched (I think) five silver lines to T10, you get the option to reset one or more of them: this basically sells all ships in reset lines that you have in port (at the usual half silver value), demounts any equipment, cammo etc. for free, and sends the captains to your reserve. You then start grinding the line again in much the same way as the first time, only with some subtle(ish) differences: From T5, the first battle you win (or get x-hundred - I can't remember exactly - xp) in each ship awards you with Research Points; this is the crucial thing. Things like captains, upgrades etc. can be dropped straight into whichever silver ship they came from in the first place without training. If you have permaflage for any given ship, you can reapply that too at no cost. The whole point of doing this is to get Research Points; those allow you to get ships and Legendary Upgrades from a special section in the Armory [sic]; with a few exceptions, the ships are the thing to aim for - most (not all) LUs are pretty poor. Not everyone is prepared to do this regrinding thing, and it's an individual choice whether or not it's worthwhile for each player. If you are going to do it, IMO, it's only usually worthwhile when there is a x2 RPs bonus available. It's also a good idea to do it to the same line over and over again (if you intend playing the ships, rather than just free xping them), so as to more easily maintain a decent captain for each ship that you'll play. When picking which line to do, pick something that's fun most of all, but also be mindful that some lines cost less to research than others (the cheapest is the IJN 'dakka' DD line; I personally go with the second cheapest - the IJN torp line - and have good captains for every ship from T5 and up). Edit: when you're able to reset lines, the bottom of your tech tree tabs will look something like this (when you hover your pointer over one of the yellow icons - the new KM DD line in this case): I've already used the current x2 bonus, so I'm not seeing any indication of that, but if there is a bonus available, there is an indication of that too. Same thing, with no hover:

Petition to WG, Remove The Detonation mechanic
Verblonde replied to _Spanish_Inquisition_'s topic in General Discussion
Wasn't that possibility removed over a year ago? From memory, you have to have already taken some damage (although I entirely forget how much) before you can detonate. This. If I'm going to get horribly exploded (due to lack of anti-det flags), the least WG can do is give me a mushroom cloud to mark my passing! Whilst I'm irritated that achievements no longer award signals, I'd still oppose removing Detonation for the usual reason - it's one of the few nods to history in the game... -
I'm not sure if it's the case with other people's secondaries moving, but I think your own moving or not varies with the graphics settings you're running. On my old computer, all the AA and secondary turrets were static, but when I got my current one, they all started moving; all that had changed was that the newer machine had a bit more horsepower (so I could run higher graphics settings). Not sure about non-turreted mounts though - I haven't looked.

This. 'Woke' is one of those terms (like 'snowflake') used - generally - by people who hold morally questionable views, that cannot be justified by rational argument, to try and divert attention via childish insults. On the up-side, the term can be useful: it's a helpful filter - anyone who uses the term disparagingly can be safely ignored...

Constellation and Always Courageous Premium Containers
Verblonde replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
This is roughly my view, although with a couple of additional elements: Submarines are coming soon now, and what I read gives no reason for optimism - I'll wait and see how much they wreck the game before buying more premium ships. The business with Yukon has not yet been resolved to LWM/Chobi's satisfaction as far as I know - that provides me with further motivation to avoid spending on WOWS. My concern with the nerfable premiums is not the fact that they can in theory be nerfed (that's probably good for the game), but that they give WG a gateway to deliberately releasing OP ships 'by mistake' and then nerfing them after they've made their money, and repeating. So far, there isn't much evidence of this happening in practice, but it is certainly a concern given that WG has given us zero reason to trust them recently. -
Still seeing nothing to make me anything but pessimistic regarding the incoming submarines; I suppose this does mean that anything better than ruining the game will be verging on a result for me. That said, I do have plenty of alternative things to play, and things to do...

Any news about the auction this weekend?
Verblonde replied to luokailk's topic in General Discussion
Same as last time (50 million) and fail; not worth more than that though. -

Perhaps he's been removed for insufficient revolutionary zeal in the matter of LWM/Yukon?
-
Well, if anyone is interested, there is an 'official' response on the NA forum: https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/240702-premium-ship-review-yukon/?do=findComment&comment=5498993 It looks like someone at WG has 'spontaneously' decided to throw themselves on their sword, which - of course - makes everything alright again. Or quite possibly not. It's not an original observation that we seem to be seeing a pattern: WG do something crass and awful. The community calls them out on it. When the negative publicity reaches a certain point, WG notice, apologise and/or sacrifice some hapless berk, and promise to learn + improve. <pause> WG do something crass and awful and repeat ad nauseum... Looks like this is going to run on for a while yet then...

As I recall, at one point she even stopped including the summary rating because too many idiots only looked at that, and didn't/couldn't read the detail...

Constellation will be released this weekend
Verblonde replied to Aragathor's topic in General Discussion
On paper, she looks quite interesting (I tend to have a weakness for enormously fat DDs); if she turns out to be fun, I might feel the urge, although my willingness to spend has taken a bit of a whack with the whole Yukon business... -
Rather gloriously, yes! @Karasu_Hidesuke covers off the detail nicely.

I think you may be confusing your Leroys; the captain in WOWS is based on a real chap who served on USS Kidd, rather than the meme...

Anywhere with lots of bots, so Coop initially, and Randoms for your early battles - you get protected MM and that means Randoms is usually largely populated with bots too to start with. iChase used to be a good YouTube resource for newcomers, but make sure you're looking at current videos - a lot has changed over the last few years. If you haven't found it yet, the wiki is a good written resource for how stuff works: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/World_of_Warships

I *think* I have every T7 DD in the game, unless I've forgotten something obscure; FWIW I do believe that Z-31 is a solid candidate for the worst at being a DD of the lot...! To be fair, there are rather a lot of things at the tier that aren't great, although much of it is to do with what's in their tier spread. My feeling is that Z-31 is *almost* pretty good: she has smoke, is reasonably robust, and her stealth isn't dreadful (it's not great, but not much is at the tier); I feel that her key problems are that she isn't fast or nimble. Equip her with some metaphorical NOS and the ability to wiggle a bit more, and she'd be something worth playing. I'm aware that I'm guilty of thinking of T7s a bit in terms of what they face, rather than in isolation. For instance, my gut reaction is that Sims is massively better than Z-31, yet (from memory) she's spotted from the moon, and her torps are sea mines as well, not to mention her rainbow arc guns. I think the reason I think of her as a far better DD is that her ability to wiggle is vastly superior; it's quite possible that I'm being a bit unfair to Z-31, at least in part because she's all kinds of boned in her MM spread (but then again, so are most T7 DDs)...

If the majority of BB players I see in the game just read this single line, they would dramatically improve...

I can't cruiser to save my life, but even I find the RN cruisers (especially the Lights) fun; that said, I - as you predict - am prone to giving a *lot* of damage away. Bonus points for Leander having optional River Plate cammo (although I'm not sure if it's available through the cammo tab or not) although the bonuses are identical to the regular permaflage. Both lines are worthwhile, but if you only pick one, definitely go with the Lights...
