From the Bogue to the Midway in 15 minutes

Huh. Sure doesn't seem like that to me in retrospect, but okay. Third-party statistics are still more meaningful than your anecdotal evidence, so I think I'll maintain that carriers are not overpowered. Not like I care that much because it means I become God on the waters in my battleships when the whine-nerf hits carriers.

From the Bogue to the Midway in 15 minutes

I've played a lot more CVs than other classes in CBT. My experience with them is simply much greater. I think my Nagato is a stronger ship than my Hiryu, and I'm playing them side-by-side.

From the Bogue to the Midway in 15 minutes

It's good to know that our supertesters have such a deep and balanced understanding of the game design.

    0.5.1 complete changelog

Let us not forget: even a converging torpedo drop is utterly pointless if the torpedoes are slow. The torpedoes won't converge only 300 meters from the drop point - they will converge 500-1000 meters from the drop point, because you know WG. Good luck hitting anything from 1000m with 35kn torpedoes. It's time to just not play carriers or destroyers anymore.

Faulty German Ships (Tirpitz & Hipper)

You do realize that premium ships are meant to be worse, not better, than similar-tier ships? Since Bismarck is also Tier 8, Tirpitz needs to be worse than Bismarck. How you accomplish this is up for debate...

    0.5.1. Patch Notes

Colorado was just buffed like two weeks ago?

    0.5.1. Patch Notes

It's an... odd patch... But new maps!
  8. If any of you think this game has a bad playerbase, or that the playerbase of online games is declining in quality, then I must assume you didn't play Counter-Strike 1.5 15 years ago. That was way, way more toxic than anything I've seen in this game.

    what i do not like

Sounds like the game modes we have right now don't let you hug the edge quite as well as you want.

    When German Battleships come?

The point I was trying to make was purely related to game balancing, not whether or not the guns are bad.

    When German Battleships come?

I know of the strengths of the Scharnhorsts. But the 28cm guns had awful penetration despite their shell velocity, so while they will be great ships against cruisers, I'm not sure they can stand up to Nagato and Colorado. They're faster, sure, but if you don't penetrate, you really struggle against battleships. The empirical curves say that the Scharnhorsts were down to 335mm penetration at 15km and 90° impact. That basically means you won't penetrate any enemy battleship in a combat situation at more than 10km, and that's very close. Bismarck's guns fired at 820 m/s, the 40.6 for the H-Klasse fired at 810 m/s, 38cm on Bayern fired at 800 m/s. All these guns were known to be rather accurate. The US Naval Technical Mission in Europe had the chance to investigate German naval artillery and reported mean errors of 0.5% to 0.8% of range for all capital ship artillery, including the high velocity 28cm. If we assume that those ships had the worst dispersion at 0.8%, it gives mean error circles of 120m radius at 15km. That is still very accurate gunfire, much more accurate than any ship in the game right now (though they will be nerfed for the game like Tirpitz was). I think it's safe to assume that Germany had no dispersion problems with their high-velocity artillery, probably because their gunmakers had a lot of experience making those guns. Germany has a long pre-WW1 history of using high.velocity shells.

    When German Battleships come?

Well, some people seem to think that Bismarck had some kind of highly advanced armor scheme that made penetrating her citadel difficult. In fact, the reverse is true. Bismarck had a very old-fashioned armor scheme that looked more or less exactly like the schemes used by most navies in their World War One designs, and as such placed great emphasis on protecting the ship at short to medium ranges. In this sense, Tirpitz as you know her from the game is a very good representation of what all German battleships and battlecruisers will be like in terms of armor protection. In fact, Scharnhorst had heavier belt and turtle deck armor than Bismarck! Bayern had the same armor scheme, but a weak turtle deck of only 30mm, so I wouldn't expect the same kind of armor magic from her. Still, 350mm belt is very sturdy, and it's not like the turtle deck doesn't exist at all. In reality such a strong emphasis on short-range protection would have been a mixed blessing, but in WoWs where you can easily make sure you only fight at short ranges the German battleship armor is very powerful.

    When German Battleships come?

Balancing the Scharnhorsts for Tier 7 will be enormous work...
  14. If his survival rate is low but his hit rate decent, he probably can't judge situations and has no idea what's dangerous and what isn't, so he gets nuked after putting in 1-2 good salvos. Basically, his aiming is fine, but his situational awareness sucks, and he dies. Basically, L2P. Sorry. It's the harsh truth.
  15. Yes, sorry. I confused you with another player I looked up at the same time, and he had similar stats to you and a Tirpitz as well, so I conflated you in my mind. Let's talk about you, then. You have 22% and 23% hit rate on your T4/T6 battleships, which is slightly low but certainly not terrible. Your damage is really low though at 18k for Wyoming and 38k for Warspite. Since win rate is strongly correlated with average damage, I advise you to improve your average damage and you win rate in low-tier battleships will improve as well. I don't consider myself a particularly good battleship player (about 55% win rate across the BBs that I have) and my average damage is about twice yours. If you look at players who are better than me, then finding players which have 3 times your average damage should not be impossible. With a couple of exceptions battleships are the most OP class in the game, especially after the IJN carrier nerf. Most experienced players agree that if you want to just win a crap ton of games across all tiers, you play battleships. The advice that you have for new players with your 100 battleship games (basically as good as zero games in battleships) is worthless and misleading.

what is the purpose of ,,,,,,,,,

Japanese battleships at Tsushima fired HE and sank six Russian battleships... There isn't a single historian who doubts the enormous danger posed by large fires on a warship. It's only laymen who think battleships are some kind of inflammable alien monstrosity made from supersteel, having no paint, wooden deck, weak superstructure, equipment, fuel bunkers, ammo storage, but instead running on fairy dust, shooting golden lightning and having 300mm of citadel armor around the ship cat's basket.

If they're 3 RPM doomhammers, gladly!
  18. He's got a Torptitz too... 12% hit rate :3

    Nagato

Nagato is the second-best Japanese battleship, easily. Only Yamato is better tier-for-tier. If she were a tier 8 ship instead of tier 7, she'd still be workable, although it would be the lower end of the power spectrum. At tier 7 Nagato is a floating demigod.
  20. My irony sensors are rusty, so spill the beans. Are you serious?
  21. fnord_disc

what is the purpose of ,,,,,,,,,

You don't take damage from HE when the shells hit the 300mm belt armor. You don't catch fire either.

Ramming is broken and this proves it...

I still think they would sink. I don't really see how it can end any other way; the ships would have to push each other aside and that just doesn't happen when they weigh 35,000 tons. No amount of flat armor is structurally strong enough. I can back this up with calculations if you want.
  23. fnord_disc

Ramming is broken and this proves it...

It would. Especially because they're so large; their inertia is so high that they won't push each other aside, they'll cut the side open. It's like hitting an iceberg. The scraping would rip open watertight compartments from the bow to about the center point of the citadel, flooding about 1/4 of the ship in a couple of minutes and sinking it. That amount of flooding can't be contained or counterflooded and it's unlikely anybody would have made it off the ship. It's an autokill, just like the game makes it.

regarding the tier 9 ijn DD

The first-gen special types are all basically the same. Replacing Fubuki with Akatsuki does next to nothing. There's a reason why many don't consider them a separate class.
  25. fnord_disc

    constantly being targeted

Well, the enemy probably isn't shooting at the destroyers because they can't see them. Just because you can see them doesn't mean the enemy can. And shooting at a slow and sluggish battleship is a lot easier than shooting at a cruiser next to it. If you're the only battleship, then really, there's nothing you can do except dodge the shells as best as you can.
